About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Winnall010 contributionsWest Coast Treetop WalkwayA stunning piece of engineering and some breath taking views available. Really well set up system, with information at all the viewing stops and a level, easily navigable walkway. The climb up the tower is well worth it for the stunning views as is the walk out along the cantilevered section but be warned! It bounces a LOT!Written 22 October 2024
- gerardmW7699SY0 contributionsA good way to spend a few hours close to HokitikaWe decided last minute when we arrived in Hokitika that we would do the tree walk and zip line combo. The walk was really interesting and informative and we saw both flora and fauna including a bird in its tree hollow nest. The zip line was good fun and I would have given a better rating but the staff need a lesson in interpersonal skills. One young lady was really okay but the other who let us go from the top may has well have not been there. She gave a dead pane briefing without showing any interest or enthusiasm for such an exciting thing to do.Written 2 October 2024
- jvt20170 contributionsA must doSpectacular views, easy walk, well priced activity, great onsite cafe for a stop afterwards that had a great selection of food and wonderful staff. Didnt do the zip lining but it looked like such a good safe fun activityWritten 17 July 2024
- ScrumptiousSolent0 contributionsGreat…but scary if you don’t like heights! It was a lot higher than I thought so I found it a bit scary, but the views were amazing and it did feel quite safe. The leaflet explaining what flora you were seeing was good and there was a nice cafe at the reception area. I didn’t make it up the high tower as that was too much for me but I did enjoy the experience overall and I would do it again! Costs about £17 each and takes about 30-40 minutes to go around. There’s a fairly short uphill walk into the forest to get to the start.Written 4 April 2024
- OxfordAardvark0 contributionsA great way to see more of the local wildlife and bushWe came across this site when on a tour of NZ South Island, and took a diversion from the main coast road to see what it offered. It's a 20 m high treetop walk through native forest. The walkways are all very new, and very safe. Both of us are a little nervous of heights, and it is high enough to make your pulse race for a while. The higher 45m viewing platform isn't for the faint-hearted, especially the external spiral staircase going up to it. Only one of us managed this....., is was worth it though. Overall this was an interesting and worthwhile diversion, and we would recommend. if you're brave enough there is a zip-line from the 45m platform, but I think you need to book this specifically.Written 14 March 2024
- shannem20160 contributionsHighly recommend!A remarkable engineering feat & totally recommend the experience. Being amongst the forest and looking down at the forest floor is a unique way of seeing the flora & fauna.Written 29 February 2024
- Explore069632098730 contributionsA great experienceThis was a great walk among the trees well set out and a great place to take lots of photos. The walk up to the tree top platform wasnt as bad as I thought it would be and managed it with no problem. well recommend to do while staying in Hokitika.Written 30 January 2024
- Roving639993148050 contributionsFantastic! The Treetop Walkway is an incredible experience!! My elderly mother is in a wheelchair, and we were taken to the start of the walkway in a buggy and picked up again an agreed time. Absolutely amazing, especially for Mum!! The weather was stunning, the views were stunning, and the whole experience was breathtaking!Written 28 January 2024
- Bontaks0 contributionsFun, safe zipline and tree top walkWe opted to go for the zipline experience as well as the tree top walk – both were a lovely way to spend some time in this part of the South Island. We chose to complete the walk before doing the ziplining which was a good choice, especially as we were early in the morning, so there were less people around up in the tree tops. When we arrived to check in for the zipline, we were told that things were a little delayed due to a staff member having to leave because they were unwell. I was really impressed with the professionalism of the young woman working hard to do the job of two people in briefing and kitting up the groups and doing her best to keep to the schedule. Shame that some guests were less than charming, patient and gracious considering the situation. Safety is a priority for staff in every step of this process, for which we were grateful. This is an excellent zipline for both those new to this type of adventure and those more experienced. BONTAKS TRAVELSWritten 22 January 2024
- PDWEB0 contributionsAverage tree top walkNice place and the treetop walk is really well set up but underwhelming for the price paid. We paid $94 for the family and it’s really only worth half that. It was over before we knew it. A free hike to see the lake is a better option.Written 9 January 2024
- 422iana0 contributionsWalk in the treesI was quite excited to do this activity while traveling down the West Coast. We got half-price tickets on bookme. To be fair, if I had paid full price I would have been disappointed if we had paid the full amount. There was some nice views but it was missing something.Written 7 January 2024
- Passenger266584535490 contributionsmismanaged chaosFrom a paying customer i find this place so disgustingly mismanaged. There was no staff to cope with the amount of people passing though. When i asked for management, i was told he was on his days off. what manager leaves their staff to strugge through these busy times?! I have been here a few times and i have never seen such chaos. Staff were being shouted at by the public. it was very obvious that they were stressed and upset with the situation. The floors to the cafe are filthy, the toilets also and there seems to be very little caretaking of the place. There was a lovely English girl who assured us of our safety on the zipline and gave us an enjoyable experience. The girl inside 'Ellie' was very apologetic and did her best with the busy cafe and i watched as the chef came out to serve people who was also very stressed. Mangement should be ashamed!! I run my own buisness with staff and its sure to say that if this happened in my establishment, they would have all left by now! I hope this review makes a difference to those poor staff in future and you are sensible about hiring more staff over busy periods.Written 5 January 2024
- bduncan910 contributionsNeat view & good learningViews were quite neat being at the top with the tree canopies. Cool to see the mountains and sand banks. About an hour to walk the whole thing.Written 31 December 2023

- 997priyap0 contributionsDO NOT EAT AT THE TREETOP CAFE!!!!Treetop cafe gave us a terrible experience. Food was disgusting, the hollaindaise sauce had gone off, eggs were overcooked, pizza cheese had gone off as it had been sitting outside all day. Staff were really rude. We asked for a refund for our food they said they would give it to us and to sit down and they bring it over. We waited 30 mins and went to speak to them again. The woman in charge was extremely rude and had a really bad attitude, she argued with us in front of other customers, shaking her head and doing signs behind our back. DO NOT EAT HERE! The food made us sick.Written 20 November 2023

Was disappointing to say the least. Did the combo, but got no guided tour, just a ride up to the tower to zipline. The staff were so unenthusiastic which made the experience less exciting. They were very deadpan and lack luster, no smiles or banter, just a job to them. The zipline itself was fun but would be better to have an option to pay for just zipline and not the Treetop Walk aswell, which from what I saw from the tower wasn't full of trees, it was very sparse. After zipline, no staff mentioned the tree top guided walk I had to ask if we could walk it which I decided not to.

A fun way to visit some of the ancient forests surrounding Hokitika. Views were spectacular. It was nice to be able to walk near the top of the forest and looking down for a change. You can really see all the life that exists in the trees when you are at eye level with them. Something you cannot appreciate when down on the ground looking up. It was great to end the walk with a zipline down to the visitor center.

Bad weather had closed the zip line but we walked around the track. There were still good views and interesting things to see. The cafe had delicious food and friendly staff.

It’s fun. One of the most professional attraction we have been on . The bloke who harnessed up and set us off on the zip line was so thorough and helpful as well as calming. Got to be a must on anyone’s trip. We had morning tea at the cafe. Nice people. Lovely fresh scones. The tree walk is excellent
