    Room for improvement
Poorly trained waiting staff delivered an entree at the same time as a main and argued it was a main when clearly it was ordered off the entree menu. There was no interest in putting things right or respecting the customer. Another example of poorly trained staff. We wouldn’t bother going back.

    Greymouth Gem
Monteiths Brewery Greymouth should be on your trip list not only a great range of their beers, ciders but a lovely menu to suit all diners. My go to was their lightly beer battered gurdard fish meal just the best. If in town well worth dropping in you won't be disappointed.

    UNPROFESSIONALS
Bières are not longer Brewer here. Staff. Unprofessionals ++ Rude +++ It seems like the presence of customers disturb their peace. To add another layer to the lack of professionalism, before placing my order, I wanted to know what kind of beer was being sold at the counter, but she didn't even know, so she invited me to read about it at the back of the bar and come back to order the right beer. No knowledge about the particularities not flavors of each beer to advise about which one to choose. They were wrong to treat us this way, we will not include them in our recommendations for the 2025 guide. PROFESSIONALISM CERO A disgrace

Went with friends - chicken dried and overcooked , no dressing in salad and exceptionally immature rude stafff!
Good average, not much choice and very overpriced. Waitresses too La h yo come offer more drinks or clear tables. Lots of staff standing round playing with their hair! Order arrived incorrect and staff disputed this. Manager young dumb and inexperienced and blatantly rude and obnoxious! Complained higher up but The Brewery ducky card if was just all about getting customers money !

    Great Fish and Chips
We had a pint of IPA and a glass of wine. The beer is average craft beer but at a very good price. The fish and chips with coleslaw was the real winner at $31. At least 6 pieces of gurnard and the crispy chips were the best. Definitely would've again.

    Buzzing!
Great place with a good vibe. Called for a couple of beers, great service, great beer. Didn’t eat so unable to comment on food quality, what we did see looked good.

    All things beer
I love beer and taste all kinds wherever we go. We did the taster trays and lunch on two occasions, Real great service and very nice food. The only negative was that there were non of the 2 favorite beers we tasted to buy. Very sad lol.

Wonderful food stop on west coast
Great, friendly space. Plenty of seating available. Staff are pleasant and accommodating . Consensus amongst our group was: fantastic lamb burgers and tacos , Pale and Hazy IPA’s- quite quaffable. This is a must visit spot on any trip down the west coast!

    Not bad; not great
The bar itself is a good space, and the food pretty good without being exciting. Indifferent service which took the edge off a bit.

    Lousy service - good food
Lousy and rude service, but food was tasty and hot / well cooked. Such a shame about prima dona youth servers. Lots of people here, good atmosphere.

    Great BEER, Food and Music
Had a great night here in late Oct. The beer was great with plenty of choices. The food was delicious and the live music was a bonus. We will be back.

    Disappointing Experience,
Disappointing experience, The chef needs to be taught how to cook Whitebait. The Whitebait meal was sub standard with very few bait evident (as a whitebait experience for tourists it would be an abject failure.) My steak while cooked correctly was probably the smallest meal I have ever had was more akin to an entre. Flavours were good but not value for money.

    Great beer poor food.
We came on a quiet Monday afternoon. Very impressed with the venue and beers. Some staff were very friendly and helpful and happily gave good advice while other staff clearly did not want to be there. It was also not a good look having staff dressed in work uniform drinking and clearly worse for wear. Unfortunately though the poor quality and price of the food spoilt the experience. I am happy to give it a second chance though because every kitchen can have a bad day.

Catch place of a casual get together
Popped in for a catch up with friends, as a group we ordered a mixture of drinks from the local brews though to coffee's. Had light snacks which went down such a treat we order another selection, loved the company, food and drinks. A great place for a catch up with friends, family or workmates. Heaps o room and staff were only to pleased to keep the atmosphere alive.

Second time dining here, second time that we were hugely dissatisfied and disappointed.
First time we were overcharged, and waited far to long for very average food. Second time could not believe the ridiculous overcharge on a simple salad, which after ordering a vegan choice, realised it literally consisted of 1/4 can of beans, and 1/4 can of corn, and a packet brought tortilla on the side.
The kids pizzas were inedible.
Such a cool venue, shame the food and prices did not match!
Won’t be returning.

This tour is so overpriced for what it is. For a family of four (including 2 young children) it cost $110. The tour involved a brief history of the brewery founders and brewing process, a self guided walk around a non operating brewery, watching a video (which was playing in the restaurant area and could be viewed at no cost) and sampling two beers which we were then asked to fill out tasting notes on for market research. The only redeeming feature is the take home six pack. I would suggest saving your money and just go to the gift store and buy the mixed six pack if you want one and watch the video while having a beer sampler in the restaurant.

Hi Rebekah, Sorry our tour didn't meet your expectations. Since the Brewery shutting in 2020, we adjusted and advertise our tours as The Beer Experience Tour. The Monteith's Beer Experience is a walking, talking and tasting tour through the original home of Monteith's. Where we take guests backstage to learn all about our family of beers and ciders, from our history and how it’s made, through to pouring the perfect glass, direct from the tap. Learn everything you need to know about our former brewery in this fully immersive and personal tasting experience. Guests packages include a West Coast Passport full of vouchers and discounts to enjoy including 20% off vouchers to the key activities on the West Coast including Franz Josef Glacier Guides and Hot Pools, West Coast Scenic Water Tours, Shanty Town Heritage Park, West Coast Wildlife Centre and Treetop Walks. The passport will also get guests a complimentary beverage at various Monteith's Brewery bars, and a number of discount offers in our retail shop so you can take something home to remember your visit to our brewery establishment here in Greymouth. Taking home a mixed six pack is a great highlight added to the package! Apologies again that our experience was subpar for your family. We hope you all enjoyed your time on the West Coast nonetheless!

The brewery tour is unfortunately a bad experience. There is little to see, and the tour guide seemed ignorant of the brewing process. The brewery is not functioning, so you would be well advised to miss the tour and enjoy the cool restaurant and bar.

We did the brewery tour with Austin. Lots of fun and great value for your beer and tour NZ dollar. Austin is 'passionate' about his subject, as were most of the tour participants as it turned out. And despite the 'tastes like burnt toast' brigade (led by Austin) the roasted barley did taste of coffee and chocolate.

This is not enjoyable and people should not be charged for this. The beer tasting is of two choices only and no other tastings for cider or other types of beer on offer.
The tour guide was an amateur reading from a boring sheet and mumbled so couldn't hear either. Don't go and waste your time it's really poor value.

What great value! An interesting and informative tour of the former brewery here at Monteith's followed by a tasting and a take home 6 pack! About the best $35 I've spent on my NZ holiday so far! The tour guide Marie was extremely informative and passionate about beer and the local area!

We were very disapointed with this tour,The tour guide was new but he had no idea what he was talking about,He was reading from a sheet of paper and stumbled over the hard words,He couldnt answer any questions. We just walked around a set up of how the process should go.The only thing that was good at the end was the beer tasting and you get to choose six bottles of your choice,Even then he just sat there and played on his phone.Luckily we had a member of the tour party who had a bit of knowledge and answered some questions. What a let down.

The food is delicious (we had burgers). The place is very clean, offers a lot to see and you can take a brewery tour which makes it very interesting. Also, they have a small shop where they sell merchandise and their products (beer, cider, ...).
If you're in the area, give it a go. We visited the 2nd time (first time was 5 years ago) and were surprised about how many thing we had forgotten already.
Highly recommended.

Myself and my cousin ate at this restaurant the week before and the meal was a ok, we went back yesterday. I order the ribs I was very disappointed with them, the ribs had been boiled, they were not fulling off the bone there was no tender meat on the bone, they were tough stringing still had the membrane underneath and the sauce tasted like shop bought sauce. Dessert was not a gooey chocolate brownie it was very dry and really should be called a chocolate cake.I did ask to speak with the cook I was told he was coming out to speak to me but I had to go to him. I had spoken to the cook he wasn't helpful he was quite rude and arrogant. This is the first time I have left a review and myself being a cook I would listen to the customer

I was somewhat disappointed. The Monteith Company is owned by a major international brewing firm. They don't actually make the beer here in Greymouth, just some seasonal and experimental batches. I enjoyed the food, but when I went to the bar to get my sample my food was cleared even though my gear was still on the table and even though the stout was marked as "on tap" not only was it not available, they weren't going to make any more. My guide was enthusiastic and the architecture is nice.
