        Amazing unforgettable experience!
One of the best walks/hikes we’ve been on. From start to finish the tramps team did not disappoint! Madeline pulled some strings for us and found an amazing guide (Jane) to come in on her day off to take us during a fully booked season. The landscape, waterfalls, trails, and weather was absolutely stunning. An unforgettable euphoric experience all while being unplugged and present. The cruise was a bonus and icing on the cake. The captain literally pulled up to the waterfall while a family of dolphins gave us another show to remember. The transportation to and from was on time and comfortable. Jane & Madeline went above and beyond to make sure our experience was fun and memorable. We HIGHLY recommend this amazing company if you’re in the area.

Milford Track half day walk with a cruise on Milford.
2nd of Three day hiking package. Half day walk on the Milford track followed by a cruise on Milford Sound. Once again Geoff guided us with humor and knowledge of all things New Zealand. A great day had by all. The easiest walk which helped stretch slightly sore muscles from the Kepler experience. The views are beautiful, the track pleasant and insect repellant kept the sand flies away. Cruise on the sound is amazing.

Third walk with Trips and Tramps
Had a very wet yet wonderful hike with Andreas and Jane as guides. The Heavens opened and the views hid. Still great fun as the third day of one day hikes we did with the company. Well prepared, knowledgeable guides and great company. The group of people we walked with were just amazing. The drive along the valley gave us mountain to mountain waterfalls. Lunches were great. Would do the whole lot again.

Guided hikes add so much to the tramping experience!
I led a group from the USA and we enjoyed three days of hikes (Kepler Track, Milford Sound and Key Summit on the Routeburn) with the lovely and gifted guides of Trips and Tramps. The guides (Helen, Michelle, Kate and Bethann) are knowledgeable, accommodating of different fitness levels, and each added a lot to the experience. Having walked all these routes on my own several times, I really enjoyed the learning opportunities of going with guides. They provided transportation to and from trailheads, and delicious lunches every day. Would recommend it to anyone!

        Magical and informative
We had a fantastic day exploring milford sound by foot and by boat thanks to the care put into it by Trips and Tramps. Our guide “PC” was very personable and incredibly knowledgeable about flora, fauna, Māori legends, tracks, history, and geography of the area. It made our trip so much more than a hike and cruise. If you get him as a guide, keep asking questions. He is a veritable font of information, all delivered with great stories. To top it off, I left my cap in their van after a long day and they kindly delivered it to our hotel door…Thank you!

        Beautiful Day in Milford Sound
Excellent day on Milford Sound. Jeff was an excellent guide and driver. He was entertaining, informative, and a very safe driver on the challenging terrain. He went over how the day would go and gave a lot of information along the drive. He made a point of interacting with everyone individually and made us feel very welcomed and included. Milford Sound is spectacular and should be on everyone’s itinerary in New Zealand. Much better to do from Te Anua than Queenstown. Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Our first great hike in NZ in perfect weather!
Learned that the great walks/holes are well established routes with paths that are maintained. Geoff and Jake were wonderful and knowledgeable guides; funny and very personable as well. Hike up to the summit is a manageable walk and our group of 12 all walked at our own comfortable pace. Lunch was good and plentiful; the cup of hot tea at the top was perfect. Scenery along the way and at the top is incredible. Used our walking poles - a few steep areas with loose stones. On time and true to description. Loved it!

        Great tour, Fabulous Tour Guide!
What a great adventure. Milford Sound is so beautiful and Ro was the best guide. She was upbeat, perky, fun and polite. The walks are pretty short and spaced out so you don't get worn out. I'm so glad we took this trip from Te Anau instead of Queenstown (so much closer) This whole place looks like it's straight out of a movie set. Too gorgeous to be real, but it is.

        Small tour with knowledgeable guide
Go with this tour of Milford Sound over one of the bigger ones. Our guide, Ro, was simply the best. She was gregarious, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about Fiordland and its history. We had a small van of cool people and had lots of opportunities to pop into the wild for short walks and photos. The packed lunch provided for the Milford Sound boat tour was great; the vegan option was stellar.

        Great tour with this company
Although because of bad weather we couldnt walk the planned Milford Track walk. Trips and Tramps amended the itinerary so that our day with them could go ahead. We loved the fact we could be picked up from our hotel, that it was a small group tour with a very friendly experienced and knowledgeable tour guide who shared so much info with us. And despite the weather we still managed some walking and saw wonderful sights because of the rainfall. The Milford Sound cruise was an amazing experience. Highly recommend this company for its personal touch

A stunning way to see Milford Sounds
A Milford sounds tour when you’re down in South Island is a must and we couldn’t recommend trips and tramps more. We had Ross as our guide for the drives and he was so full of information and had a seemingly endless amount of fascinating things to tell us about the area! Although I’m sure the Milford Drive is great to experience driving yourself, doing it with Trips and Tramps meant that we found out about so many details we would’ve just missed if we’d done it independently. The boat trip around the Fiordlands is stunning. We were there on a rainy day so the waterfalls were out in full force and it was just breathtaking. Definitely would bring warm layers and waterproofs as it does get a bit chilly, particularly when it’s bucketing it down. Would highly recommend and thanks again Ross for being such a great guide!

A fabulous hiking experience in the most beautiful Fiordland region!
2 years ago I did a 3 day hiking/accommodation package with Trips and Tramps and loved it so much i did it again last week - first week of February 2024. The accommodation at Distinction Hotel Lakeside was fabulous! You get picked up every morning and dropped home again after each of the day hikes - Milford Track, Routeburn Track and the heli-hike challenging Kepler track. All of these day hikes are magnificent scenery in any weather, you come home feeling well-exercised, exhilarated and 10 years younger! i would recommend this to anyone who loves hiking! The Trips and Tramps team and Guides are fabulous, very caring, helpful and knowledgeable and you are certainly in good hands. Enjoy!

We few blessed to have experienced this amazing excursion. We had a short break in the weather that allowed the very competent pilot to fly us from Manapouri to the Lux hut. After a nourishing lunch at the hut we began our descent on the Kepler track. Gary, our guide, kept us safe with an excellent briefing before departing. The hike begins in alpine conditions with tussocks along the trail. We eventually hit the tree line and entered into a bush environment with beach trees and ferns. The hike concluded at the base of the mountain on the shore of Lake Te Anau. We then rode the water taxi back across the lake where a van took us to our lodge for the night. Gary provided excellent insights about the surrounding geology and vegetation. A wind kicked up when we arrived at the lake so the water taxi ride became memorable as well! Great excursion.

Loved this experience. I normally do hikes on my own but all the huts and places were booked and heard about this group from a friend. I'm so glad I did it through Trips and Trams. I didn't have to plan anything, just show up and still felt like I had a beautiful day of hiking, plus my guide was so kind and showed me so many things about the landscape that I wouldn't have known. Highly recommend if you want to experience the area, learn about the history and landscape and without needing to pack in and out on your own. The team is kind, responsive and has thought through every detail but it doesn't feel over done. Can't say enough good things about them.

This heli hike was one of the higlights of my recent NZ trip. Although I normally walk on my own two feet to the top of a mountain, I really enjoyed the combination of a short but very scenic flight, hiking and the water taxi back to Te Anau. Thanks to the flight, we got above the clouds right away and had the mot spectacular views. Once we reached the top of Mt. Luzmore, our guide made tea or coffee for us. We stopped for our pic nic lunch at the Luxmore hut and then walked all the way down to the lake shore. Our guide pointed out trees and birds along the way and explained some of the ongoing conservation projects. I highly recommend this 16 k hike with Trips and Tramps.

Thanks for the awesome review. We aim to be a highlight of New Zealand tours and it's great to hear we succeeded. The combination of the scenic flight, hike and water taxi adds to the day in our opinion. The views from the top of Mt Luxmore are stunning. We appreciate the recommendation. Stay safe and well!

Never done a Helihike before, but wanted a reasonable day walk (and a warm-up for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Felt a bit of a cheat saving 800m of the climb Mount Luxmore, but got to the top refreshed (having landed from UK 44 hours ago). Easy walk, although 1200m down though the forest took time, given the distance. Geoff knew the area/route/fauna/flora intimately (no surprise when we arrived at 4:28 for our 4:30pm ferry). The short helicopter trip was great (with views off some smaller tarns that no one sees).
The weather offered stunning views, although getting gusty.

Thanks for your review of our Kepler Heli Hike. It sounds like you had a great day. Getting up in the air and seeing the views gives you a fabulous perspective of the park. Geoff is a great guide, being a local and an experienced guide he makes of the most of the day for you (hence the 4.28 pm arrive for the ferry). Hope you enjoyed the Tongariro Crossing! Stay safe and healthy!

We utilised this company for 3 seperate tramps on successive days, Kepler, Milford, and Routeburn tracks. Each tramp was a full day exercise and at Milford included the Milford Sounds tour for a full day each time. There were 2 guides allocated each day and each day they were different but each time very professional and knowledgeable. They carried hot water, coffee and tea with milk and sugar, with collapsible cups to provide a hot drink just when we needed it.

Great experience of a section of the Kepler Track doing the helicopter flight to Luxmore Hut and then return hike. Moderate effort required. Great constraints of landscapes and our guide was very informative and helpful. Trips and Tramps are super organised and efficient. We loved our hike and the Kea birds!

First hike of three with Trips and Tramps. The helicopter ride was amazing and provided great views and a very easy ascent to Luxmore Hut. Geoff our guide was amazing and knowledgeable and very entertaining. The walk down the hill was a challenge and was definitely the more challenging of the hikes we did. Views are spectacular. Lunch was great. Just loved the whole package

Did the 3 day walk package. One day each of the Kepler, Routeburn and the Milford. Got to stay at the wonderful Fiordland Lodge each night, so luxury bed and showers at the end of the day, not to mention the exquisite food. Then only had to carry a day pack each day.
      Even got a helicoptor ride.
      Thoroughly recommend it.

Yoshi and Madeleine were friendly, knowledgeable and great guides. Due to cloud cover we altered our hike to through the forest to Shallow Bay in hopes that the cloud cover would lift. Hooray --it cleared. We were picked up by the helicopter on the beach at Shallow Bay and taken up to Luxmore hut. The helicopter ride was so exciting with great views. At Luxmore hut we were able to hike a little to a scenic area with outstanding views. Thereafter, we hiked down Kepler track to the beach where the boat picked us up and took us back to Te Anau.

When plan B is just as good, and you get to see a whole lot more of the track. Being able to modify the trip when the clouds get in the way the beauty of having a local guide! We know the Kepler Track and weather patterns. Thanks for your review and wonderful to hear you enjoyed the company of your guides!
