- ronandphil0 contributionsGreat experience, Hari was an excellent guide and driverWe had a great day, despite the weather not working in our favour ….. once we got to Milford Sound and on the boat it rained for most of the trip. However, the weather is very changeable and we did have lots of periods of good weather on the way to and from. Hari, our driver and guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly and flexible. He stopped at many amazing views and led us through a rainforest walk on the way back.Written 12 February 2025
- Phil A0 contributionsGreat experience (despite the weather!)Unfortunately, the weather on Milford Sound was poor, with rain and mist, which meant views were seriously limited and, at times, completely obscured! However, our guide (Andrew) really helped to make the trip a success, sharing his knowledge and expertise about the area, which made the trip so interesting and enlightening. Despite the weather, we really enjoyed the experience.Written 10 February 2025
- karenbJ4010QA0 contributionsBest way to do Milford SoundBook this tour, you won't regret it!! We had a wonderful time and our guide Ben was perfect - knowledgeable with a good sense of humour, he really made our trip. It's a small group (max 15 people) and the cruise is on the smaller boats from Mitre Peak Cruises which was ideal; Milford is a busy place and this helped it feel less crowded for us. Lunch was delicious - chicken wraps and healthy snacks, definitely enough to keep you going for the day. Would highly recommend Trips & Tramps and this tour!Written 10 February 2025

- V1516TBaj0 contributionsSmall group tripPick up and drop off from our Te Anu accommodation was a bonus. Our guide, Jacob was entertaining and informative and made the road trip interesting. We stopped at a number of VW points, short walks and even saw a Cormorant's nest with chicks in it. The lunch provided was excellent, the boat trip supplied complimentary hot drinks. It was a small craft so plenty of space to view the stunning scenery, move around and not feel like you were on a massive tour with to any people. Would recommend the trip and would do it again.Written 6 February 2025
- Kay A0 contributionsGreat guide with the best storiesHad the best day out with PC as our guide, super informative, fun, and had the best stories (especially the Kea and the bike story). Lovely to have a small group tour too, as we had great fellow travellers and made new friends.Written 5 February 2025
- charissar20250 contributionsAwesome experience, highly recommendWe were lucky to have Jojo as our guide for the day, she was an amazing resource of knowledge about the area, and especially about the plant life in Fiordlands/Milford Sound. We usually don’t sign up for tours, preferring to drive ourselves and explore as we go, but my husband and I remarked repeatedly during the day how glad we were to have signed up with Trips and Tramps, and how lucky we were to get Jojo as our guide (though it sounds like the the other guides are great as well, all bringing a lot of knowledge and experience to the job). Highly recommend this company, and this particular trip!Written 5 February 2025
- Resistib0 contributionsFun in Milford SoundFabulous and informative trip with Hari from Trips and Tramps. Engaging, scientific explanations given with humour and facts. We paused to observe wild life and views. Fresh tasty lunch as part of package. Hotel pick up etc. Planned to avoid peak times and queues. Well worth the fee.Written 4 February 2025

- 484gailm0 contributionsSuch an amazing dayWe had an absolutely lovely day with Jeff as our driver/guide. He was friendly and fun right from the start as well as being so knowledgeable about the whole area and history as well as folklore. He is from Te Anau so knows his stuff. We were blessed with beautiful weather which of course makes everything even more beautiful. The beauty of Milford sound is breathtaking ( and I’m from Scotland which isn’t short of beautiful views). The cruise was 2 hrs and on a nice smallish boat so it didn’t feel crowded and everyone was very polite letting others take their turn with photographs etc. As the weather was favourable we were also offered the chance of a 30 min helicopter ride to the glacier. It was an extra 250 NZ dollars each, but just wow! We were so glad we took their opportunity. We started out at 8am with a pick up from right outside our Airbnb and were dropped back to the door about 5:30 tired and oh so happy. A packed lunch was provided and was perfectly nice. A healthy chicken and slaw wrap, apple, chocolate cake and a wee bit (not so nice) processed cheese. Tea and coffee were available complementary on the boat but take your own water. Plenty of stops at scenic points on the way there and back and ample toilet stops :) All in all a brilliant day and we would recommend. If we ever get the chance to come back we would use the same company again for sure and probably try one of their other options.Written 3 February 2025

Really enjoyed doing one day guided walks with Trips and Tramps. The mountain views from the Routeburn track were glorious, especially after some fresh snow from the previous night. The planned Lake Marian walk had to be cancelled due to rain, but we ended up doing a part of Kepler track instead, which turned out to be just stunning. Guides Helen, Ro, and Gary were very knowledgeable and full of great stories and anecdotes. Highly recommended!

Thank you for your kind words and we appreciate your flexiblity as we negotiated the weather. Wonderful to hear we still created an amazing hiking experience in Fiordland for you. I'll let the guides know you enjoyed their company, thank you for the review!

We had a modified version of this excursion and enjoyed it immensely. We started off conventionally from our lodge in Te Anau, but needed to be dropped off in Milford Sound at the conclusion. The day we did our hike we had rain and clouds so the summit would not offer a view. Rowe (sorry I do not know the spelling of her name) smartly continued on the track to take us to Lake Howden.
Several things made this an excellent excursion. First, the very personal nature of the company allows them to adapt to your needs. Second, if weather (a variable in Fiordland) changes, the guides quickly adapt. Most important, we always felt safe. This track deserves the reputation of being a Great Walk.

I had a personalised 1:1 guided hike with my lovely and patient guide Madeleine. She's also the driver and my photographer. As the only hiker on the day she was able to personalise the walk with flexibility. We still have time left after the hike so Madz took me to the start of Lake Marian to give me idea of what the tracks look like. She also took me back to Mirror Lakes when I told her I didn't see much of it on my 1st visit due to overcrowding. Alas! The place was all to ourselves!

Hi Cindy! What a great day we had, and so glad you could see the Mirror Lakes with no other people and with lovely reflections. I hope your photos all turned out well, and also your further walking plans. Take care. Madz

We absolutely loved our day walk at Routeburn Track with John, he was so knowledgeable and very accomodating to our interests. He really spent the time to get to know us and in turn used this to tailor the experience to us. We couldn’t fault the entire day!

A local, family-run company offering a more intimate and tailored experience. Our guides Reece and Ro were informative and made each of our tours all the more enjoyable. The company was adaptable and responsive to changes in weather and our requests. Hope to be back soon to do the Kepler Heli-Hike with them.

My husband and I did a walk with Trips & Tramps today and we loved it!! Shoutout to Ro & Kate - in spite of the weather, they made adjustments and took care of all aspects of our trip to make it an enjoyable, educational and fun day. We were part of a group of 13, but they made it like we had our own personal guides. We highly recommend doing a tour with this company.

We did the one-day Routeburn track recently with Jeff and Ty Se (apologies for any errors in the spelling). It was an amazing experience and wish we had done the other one day experiences they offer too. Most outstanding was that both the guides have strong connection to the Fiordland and therefore the knowledge and passion they shared enriched our experience so much. They were both very friendly. Really patient with some of us who were slower trampers. Jeff is an amazing story teller. Loved the stories of the Venison wars:)

Had a very wet yet wonderful hike with Andreas and Jane as guides. The Heavens opened and the views hid. Still great fun as the third day of one day hikes we did with the company. Well prepared, knowledgeable guides and great company. The group of people we walked with were just amazing. The drive along the valley gave us mountain to mountain waterfalls. Lunches were great. Would do the whole lot again.

Amazing trip with walks in 3 different landscapes and including a Heli hike! Breakfast and packed lunch included.
Trips & Tramps catered for everyone - different walking fitness levels and the local guides were just lovely- sharing the knowledge and differing perspectives.
The views were absolutely amazing! High alpine regions, temperate rainforests and of course incredible fjords, waterfalls and tarns. We got to see the amazing Kia parrots up close too.
Cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Accommodation was really comfortable and could walk to amazing restaurants for dinner - perfect!

We had a very wet day but learned how this could enhance our Fiordland experience! We didn't get to Key Summit because of the weather conditions but Anya substituted a longer alternative walk and a nature walk. Anya was wonderful, very personable and very knowledgeable and made us appreciate the rain! We saw lots of birds and enjoyed the explanations of the local flora, trees and ferns.Everything well organised by Trips and Tramps. Thanks Anya!

Hi, thanks for your review! The Routeburn Track Key Summit walk is great in all weather - even if the weather prevents good views. There is so much to see in the incredible rain forest.
Safe travels.

Muchas gracias
