- LoveTravel52265600A fantastic guided walkA wonderful and educational beautiful hike along this amazing trail, guided by the very knowledgeable and engaging “PC”. Followed this with the Mitre Peak Milford Sound boat trip. A really great combination. Highly recommended.
- John M00Best way to see Milford SoundOur guide Ro could not have been more pleasant, knowledgeable and with her cheeky humor, a lot of fun! Great pacing, smaller vessel, beat the crowd, great photo stops. Choose this trip and company to see Milford. You won’t go wrong
- Franz und Esthe... S00Fantastic experience.A wonderful experience. Our driver/guide Madeleine did a fantastic job. She was not only very kind, she learned us a lot about the nature she loves. The additional walks we’re just a wonderful experience. The day tour is the best way to experience Milford Sound.
- hillsholiday00Fabulous Fiordland Tramping TasterWe did the amazing Fiordland great 3 day package. What a wonderful experience! From the beginning T+T's communication was prompt, providing reassurance on fitness levels required, experience, heights etc. Their gear (they offered complimentary use of new wet weather gear and walking poles), their guides and their knowledge was outstanding. There were 6 on our walks, with 2 guides each day. Ro, John, Tamara and Grace were knowledgeable, patient, encouraging and fun. Informative on plants, birdlife and the area generally - this totally enhanced our experience. The helicopter ride was a highlight, and all three walks and cruise provided an amazing introduction to this special area of NZ. Could not recommend this package with Trips and Tramps more highly.
- erind88500Stunning tramping with an awesome crewExtremely efficient and Highly organised business. Staff were amazing, knowledgeable and entertaining. As a solo travel I was welcomed and included in the group. The interlinking services from the heli flight, water taxis, cruise and bus transport as well as lunch provider were all awesome services. Absolutely loved my 3 day hike over three great treks.
- coastaltraveller1100Simply fantastic!Wow - just wow! Trips and Tramps were absolutely fabulous to travel with. Small, personalised tour with expert guides who not only educated us, fed us with delicious lunches and snacks, but also knew the ‘tips and tricks’ to do and see the best. We originally felt as though we were ‘cheating’ a bit by not trekking each track completely and camping overnight, but boy, were we wrong 😑. Having completed 3 magnificent walks each day, we knew we got the best-of-the-best and experienced each track at it’s peak. Routeburn - magnificent. Milford Sound - spectacular. Kepler Track - simply amazing. We would not hesitate to recommend Trips and Tramps and we plan to return to do another tour with our adult children. So much for not being ‘tour’ people - this was not a run of the mill tour but a well planned, informative and well executed, lifetime experience. Thank you Trips and Tramps - until next time. ☺️
- Janaya F00A magical day exploringOur best day exploring in Te Anau, Milford Sound. Ross is a walking almanac with so much knowledge about the area, wildlife, history, and more. A comfortable drive to Milford sound and back with plenty of stops along the way for walks and photo opportunities. A lovely lunch provided and some insider tips to get the best views onboard our Milford cruise. I really enjoyed the personal one on one interaction.Ross is a true gentleman ensuring we were well looked after the entire day. Can't wait to return for another adventure! Highly recommend Trips and Tramps. Five star all the way.
- oliviasT879VA00Sensational day out!We absolutely loved our day walk at Routeburn Track with John, he was so knowledgeable and very accomodating to our interests. He really spent the time to get to know us and in turn used this to tailor the experience to us. We couldn’t fault the entire day!
- sallytheresep00Spectacular with a personal touchWhat an incredible experience! Geoff is an excellent guide who really cared about every person. The highlight for us was the helicopter ride over to our first trek. Spectacular! If you’re looking for a small, personalised experience to see some amazing New Zealand walks - this is it. We also really loved the town of Te Anau. ❤️
- princessredv005 StarWe did the 3 day package of 1) Kepler Heli hike 2) Routeburn + key summit 3) Milford Cruise and tour. Everything from booking to the start of the tour ran smoothly. Excellent communication and very friendly service. We did not feel out of place at all(Its only me, my husband and the guide). The first 2 days we did the Kepler and Routeburn key summit, the guides were fantastic (Jeff and John)!!! They are so chill and knowledgeable. Its like we knew each other from before! On our 2nd day we were actually expecting that we will have a bad tour because it was all rain and clouds, but John made sure that we will have a good time. Lastly we just finished the Milford day tour, our guide Andrew, talked to us all the way about the stuff we found on the way. Very informative and we were able to see some rare birds. This is our first time in NZ and this tour made it more memorable. Highly recommended.
- Pat_C31600Best companyThe photography workshop instructors have chosen Steve Norris, Trips and Tramps, to be the driver/guide for the 10 day New Zealand workshop for several years. Steve is excellent at making the drives between locations comfortable, knowing when coffee breaks are needed on cold days, knowing where the good cafes are for lunch stops, etc. He is very knowledgeable about the South Island geography and history, providing commentary along the way. Very helpful, highly recommended.
- barbaradR3291HN00I would like to do it again with SteveSteve Norris, the CEO of Trips & Tramps, was our guide for a 10-day photo workshop. He is very knowledgeable about points of interest for photographers. He is also personable and compassionate when extra help is needed. He allowed me to do more than I could have done without his help. Oh, he also knows the good places to stop for lunch—a great buddy and guide to have for your dream trip to New Zealand.
- GoodSheep1100Excellent Milford Sound ExperienceFirstly , nothing Bad !! All good. The trip took the stress of driving away so we could enjoy the wonderful scenery! John , our guide was attentive and informative. He was a great companion for the day !!Truly enjoyable and memorable.
- virginiabJ8398BV00Excellent van tripTrips & Tramps drove us to Milford Sound from Te Anau. It was much more fun than expected. Lots of great information from Ro, our driver. She kept things interesting even with the fog hiding the views for the first part of the trip. She made us feel special by showing us her favorite spots and being flexible if some place wasn’t accessible.
- 69DSR00A great tour of Milford Sound leaving from Te AnauAndrew was a wonderful guide and driver to Milford Sound. He was knowledgeable and gave an informative narration about the region, the flora and fauna, climate change etc. during a 2 hour drive to Milford Sound so that the time passed quickly. There were a number of stops on the way there and back including an easy hike through the woods to talk about the beautiful trees and magical wooded spaces that make New Zealand so special. The boat ride on Milford Sound was terrific and the rain held up so that there were clouds hovering near the waterfalls. It was magnificent! A great trip! Thank you Andrew!

If you’re thinking about driving yourself to Milford you are missing out on the best part of the experience - which is actually the journey to get there! We are so glad we chose to do this tour instead of driving ourselves. Our tour guide, Geoff, was the best guide we could have asked for. We laughed and we learned a lot about the local area, wildlife and things to do while in Te Anau and the Fiordland National Park. Particularly loved the short walk to Lake Gunn. It was a slightly smaller group (about 10) which made it more special and easier to manage. We got picked up and dropped off at our accomodation in Te Anau which made it that much easier. We also thoroughly enjoyed staying in Te Anau, such a beautiful little town. Geoff also managed to get us up in a helicopter that landed on a snowy mountain! This had an additional cost but he organised it all while we were on the cruise. Highly recommend this trip to truly enjoy the journey, because that’s what it’s all about!

Kate and co were fantastically helpful over several months of planning, booking, challenges with the weather closing travis and last of all the Coronavirus problems that meant we couldn’t actually complete our trips. Always flexible and offered 100% refund at every point the was an issue outside of their control. We have to cut our NZ trip short but will be back to pick up the threads as soon as it’s possible and will definitely use Trips & Tramps. Highly recommended.

Hi John, I will pass on your review to Kate, who is a business owner. She will be happy to see a review about her, as the office staff don't often get a mention. It's great to hear that our service was impressive due a trying time with the extreme storm in February and then the Coronavirus. Sorry to hear you had to cut your tour short and did not get down to Fiordland. We hope you got home and you are safe and healthy. We would love to see you in Fiordland another time.

I have been to Milford a few times over the years but due to the Icy conditions, Suzy at the Te Anau lodge suggest this option with someone who knows the road. Worth every penny, there was only three of us with Geoff as the guide and driver, a very knowledgeable local with a great sense humour. In a way the road trip was better than the cruise except we were in luck with very calm conditions and dolphins escorting the boat. Great day

In a trip packed with great experiences this one is sublime.
We were collected from our holiday park and started the approximately 2 hour drive in a very comfortable minibus to Milford Sound. We stopped at some viewpoints on the way and the guide gave a running commentary on the history and geology of the area.
We boarded our boat on arrival (after collecting the included packed lunch) and then began the two hour cruise around Milford Sound. Despite the beautiful scenery the highlight of the tour had to be a small pod of dolphins riding the bow wave of the boat and leaping from the water.
Our return trip was interrupted by a number of short stops so that we could get out and walk around some of the places we stopped to see.
We got back to our holiday village around. 5:00PM so it was a full day out. Plenty of photo opportunities along the way in both directions.

We did the trip with Becky. She was really an enthusiastic person, gave lots of information during the drive to Milford sound. Also gave in good stops for pictures and lookouts. The cruise through Milford sound was amazing. Post that our group opted for the short hikes and both the Beech forest and River walk were fantastic. Becky also made us nice coffee and tea during the break after the hikes. She drove pretty well and safely and was a wonderful guide.

From being picked up at the front door of our holiday accommodation to being dropped off at the end the day this trip was brilliant. Andrew our guide for the day was informative and kept us all entertained along the way. It was a very rainy day which apparently is the best day to see Milford Sound and it was spectacular!!
We ordered lunch from Trips and Tramps too and it was delicious. We would so recommend this trip, it is way better than driving yourself as you get Andrew's 2000 + trip experience. He knows all the spots to stop!!

This tour was worth every penny. Even though we had our rental car we decided to take this tour from Te Anau to Milford Sounds and our host was great, we stopped at Gunn Lake in the morning when it was a mirror lake rather than the afternoon when is was windy, pointing out the different bird calls when we were doing the strolls, anecdotes and the pure love lf the scenery from our tour guide made the trip so much better. Could not wish for any more. Also as a carsick and anxious passenger when driving through hills I felt safe the whole way.

What a marvellous day! Reece, our guide, was super friendly, engaging and knowledgeable - with his commentary at various points on the road the bus journey was fascinating and a joy. Reece allowed us time and space to see a number of beautiful sights and places as we travelled to and from Milford Sound, and arranged the day so that we saw the things at their best - for example stopping at lakes when there were stunning reflections. The food provided was also great, and we'd love to be able to join Trips and Tramps on another occasion. Thank-you Reece and thank you Trips and Tramps :)

We had a great day with Trips and Tramps. My husband and I and our 3 Teens, 19, 16 and 14. We got picked up on time outside our accommodation in Te Anau, then after a few more stops picking up other guests we were on our way. It was a wet, cold, raining day but that did not affect our trip in any way. Our guide was very knowledgeable and knew the best places to stop and the best time of day to stop. After a few stops on the way to Milford sound we boarded our boat with our packed lunch in hand. The lunch was outstanding, and it was alot of food. And just as if we had planned it the rain stopped for our cruise, and the waterfalls were well and truly out in force, simply stunning. After our cruise we got back on our small bus and headed back. We stopped at some great spots and learnt a lot about the fauna and flora and saw the famous Kea, being a bit cheeky. This trip wa great value for money and we all enjoyed it. Make sure you bring wet weather gear even it's sunny, the weather can change quickly.

Wonderful to hear your family had a great day out to Milford Sound with us. Yes the weather here is very unpredictable so it is worth coming prepared. Sounds like you timed it well with the rain stopping too, always a bonus as you get to see the many waterfalls to boot!

Is there only a short walking course?
There seems to be a long road course but it seems to have disappeared.

There were multiple hiking options i believe.. The recent rains and flooding may have changed that. I saw on the news they were evacuating tourists via helicopter.

Hi am planning to visit Milford sound in third week of December. Wanted to stay in Milford sound at the Milford lodge. Can we join the hike and cruise from there ? Would you suggest staying in te anau or Milford? Would really love to stay in Milford.

If you can get a place in Milford, do it. We had some issues getting into the sound due to avalanches, so give yourself plenty of cushion time before and after you arrive in case of those kinds of things. I stayed in Te Anau and loved it. You have to go through Te Anau from Queenstown to get to the sound anyway, so it’s worth the stay if you plan in Milford Sound. But if you want to stay multiple days, definitely try to stay in the sound itself.

Milford Sound is on the South Island. You might consider staying at Manapouri rather than Te Anau. More rustic, and great views of the southern end of Fiordland National Park.

My wife and I are planning to visit New Zealand in the early spring of 2020. We are looking for a guided tour that will take us to as many places as we can over a two week period. We enjoy hiking with our sight seeing. Can you recommend a company(ies) we should look into for our bookings?

We were told that the famous Milton track is very beautifull to walk but that it is almost impossible to reserve. Number of people allowed to walk the track is limited. Wthin one day this walk is fully booked. There are a lot of smaller walks in the area but if you want to do a great walk you need to prepare and inscribe on time. We did a small walk and cruise with Trips and Tramps and enjoyed that very much. I prefer to book with a smaller more local organisation than bigger national agencies.

We are 82 & although quite fit are unable to walk long distances or for long periods so a little concerned about the "walks" - please advise. Your tour has been recommended to us by Fiordland Lodge where we are staying. Thanks Keith

You should contact them. I think they could accommodate your needs. You don’t have to do the Keye Sunmit hike, they might take you on a walk with photo ops.
