Absolutely loved the boat cruise! And our walk on Ulva was even better. Our guide Bridget contacted us to see if we would be willing to shift our tour to a day earlier. She suggested that the weather was better and that we would have a tour with a smaller group. It was definitely worth the move! With only 6 of us on the tour we got an hour and a half exploring the island. Bridget was so knowledgeable finding all the birds well before we heard them. She took her time to talk to every member of the group and find out what they were interested in learning about. I was really impressed by her knowledge of the history of the island and her passion for the area. I thought she was a true bred stewart islander, would never have picked her from Auckland. To top it off she showed us blue mushrooms!

Thanks again Sue!

Excellent trip. The boat ride over was great. Very comfy and the commentary along the way was great. Informative and interesting. The walking tracks were easy grade and our guide knew a lot about the flora and was able to recognise bird call and spot birds. We saw the Stewart Island robin among others. Big ole sea lion basking on the beach. Highlight was the dozen or so albatross on the way back. The boat was stopped and the albatross were swooping and soaring around the boat and settling on the water next to the boat!

I chose RealNZ for my recent trip to Stewart Island! Their Ulva island tour was fantastic! I highly recommend! Our guide Britz was so knowledgeable! She knew all the bird calls and spotted the birds well before any one else in the group! Her passion and love for wildlife definitely showed! We saw kakariki, mohua, saddleback, robins and even a rifleman.

The boat trip was well worth while too! We learned lots about the history of the Island. And as an added bonus our skipper Nick found us lots of albatross.

I have done a lot of tours with RealNZ and would pick them over other tour companies every time.

We had an excellent voyage to the island on the catamaran, with stops to view landmarks and sights and to watch the mollyhawks. The skipper was fantastic in helping to identify the birds - Northern and Southern Royal Albatross; Buller's, Salvin's and White Capped Mollyhawk. An amazing piece of luck to see all five!

The guided walk around the island was excellent too. Our guide, Mel, pointed and talked about out the endemic trees and plants, and also the birds. The beautiful Rima tress and the gorgeous Stewart Island Robin were my highlights.

All in all a fabulous day seeing NZ nature at its best.

We didn't have the catamaran portion of the tour. It was quite a thrilling ride out to Ulva in the water taxi as the waves were fairly boisterous.
Our guide was so knowledgeable about everything on the island - history, flora and fauna - and the bird fanatics in our party had the opportunity to take plenty of photographs.

We took 3 tours of senior citizens down to Stewart Island and the RealNZ staff made everyone so welcome and took such good care of us. The guides knowledge of their job and love for where they live, is very clear and their passion shows.
Nothing was a problem, the staff were so helpful and patient and had awesome sense of humor. Great picnic lunch and comfy boat ride. Ulva Island was amazing and our guides - Bevan and Nicky for tours 1and 2, then Bevan and Leah for tour 3, we're fantastic and made he experience beyond expectations. Highly recommend.

We were fortunate to have a sunny day in September to visit Ulva Island - a nature reserve in pristine condition close to Oban. This small island is totally predator free and the vegetation is therefore an excellent example of prime NZ native bush. We were taken on a cruise on the Foveaux Explorer around Paterson Inlet and some other historic places before reaching Ulva. Our guides, Ian and Minette, were so informative and friendly and we learnt a huge amount about the efforts in pest control to keep this area in its pristine state. The walk through the bush took about an hour. We saw wood pigeons, robins, kakas and a weka, and heard many more birds. Some of us are in our 70s and Ian and Minette took great care to ensure our safety, and we had many stops so no one felt tired.

We spent several hours on Ulva Island in early Feb 22... absolutely beautiful island with incredible bird-life, seals, sea-lions, golden sands... can't recommend a visit there more highly.

Highly recommend this trip. Without having Guides we wouldn't have know what we were looking at, and not realised that we were very privileged to see not one Saddleback but seven! Our guide Lynette was extremely knowledgable and entertaining.

I never realized that flora and fauna could be so interesting but Linette made it interesting and educational. Boat there and back was great especially the albatross on the way back.
