      Tokoeka Tour of Lifetime
Cannot recommend this tour enough! This was our second RealNZ tour of the day, and while we may have felt tired before setting out, this quickly dissipated with the excitement of the journey. We stopped in several incredible spots en route to the ultimate destination, observing penguins (hoiho/yellow-eyed and tawaki/Friodland crested), seals and albatross, among other native species. Once night fell, the kiwi tour was an absolute dream. We crept through the impressive forests, listening for the signs of Stewart Island tokoeka. Our guide, Karen, who we were lucky enough to have for the second time that day, truly went above and beyond. She made sure we had the best possible experience, and between the two groups, we ended up seeing three tokoeka. Pure magic. Even with wet weather threatening to roll in, this couldn't possibly put a damper on our experience. Our captain Matt was fabulous as well, starting our return trip in the dark with the Titanic theme song, just perfect. Hot chocolate on board was the night cap we needed. Thank you RealNZ, and Karen in particular, for an adventure we'll always remember.

      Epic Avian Adventure
My parents and I visited Stewart Island for a couple days, and both RealNZ tours we did were truly amazing. We were fortunate enough to have the incredible Karen as our guide (but all the other guides seemed pretty cool too), and her passion for what she does, and the beautiful environment we were visiting, was clear. I've lived in NZ for 10 years, but learned so much on Ulva Island about our native species. We got to see an incredible variety of birdlife and spend time just taking everything in. The highlight was seeing mohua/yellowheads and sea lions on the beach (and Karen's bravery ensuring the stroppy male sea lion stayed well away from the group). Highly recommend this tour! You'll gain so much knowledge and walk away happy with a few hours incredibly well spent.

      Kiwi Excitement
This adventure was exciting! We took a scenic boat ride over to Tribal land and hiked through the woods at night from 10 pm to 12 am. We were fortunate and saw a couple kiwis. One was unfazed and spent about 20 minutes with us.

      Kiwi hunt
Our guides were excellent and made the whole adventure exciting. On the boat we spotted a rare penguin and other birds. They offered binoculars during the boat trip and torches/flashlights for the trek through the bush on our kiwi hunt. We saw 4 kiwi which was very exciting. We rather felt like thrives in the night the way we had to be so quiet, it was a hoot! A great time, glad we spent the money.

Many thanks for the great day. Thanks to the skipper for the boat ride, Sarah and Jan for the tour on the island. It was great to see the seals and Mick for his strong 💪 getting us on and off the boat ☺️

      Amazing experience!!
We had the best time on this tour! We saw kiwis and lots of other wildlife on the boat part of the tour, the guides were so engaging and had so much knowledge of the animals and local area including cultural history! The hot drinks and biscuits was such a lovely touch as well! Would recommend bringing lots of layers as was chilly even in summer!

Amazing wildlife and the best opportunity to see wild kiwis
We saw penguins, seals, sea lions, albatross, pied shags and kiwis!! The guides could not have been more accommodating or enthusiastic. Really worth the money in my opinion. My only advice would be take lots and lots of warm clothes and layers as the weather changes very quickly even in summer.

      Must do on Steward island
Well organized tour with penguin, sea lion and seal watching from a boat, free coffee/chocolate/tea and easy guided night walk where we saw two kiwis. There is additional layers and jackets on the boat if you feel i like you are not warm or dry enoughY

For wildlife viewing or a close encounter with a wild kiwi, this ranks #1
Absolutely worth the effort and the cost. We saw albatross, seals, and penguins on the way out, then spent 20 minutes watching a kiwi in the wild. He (our guides thought it was a "he") wasn't bothered by us except when one of the party tried to take a flash picture. But he settled down, and ended up working right past us. He checked my pant legs for grubs and worms, but I didn't have any, to my relief and his disappointment. If you want to see the animals native to New Zealand, this should be at the top of your list. I've been to New Zealand 12 times, and this is an expedition I'll continue to remember, and probably try again, despite the effort of getting to Rakiura

Worth every penny and the late night.
This was a fantastic trip. As folks have said, Natasha and Karen were wonderful guides. We walked for 2 hrs and watched a kiwi for about 20 min as he rooted around for food. He even checked out my husband's pant leg. This was the highlight of our 2+ week to NZ.

So much more than a Kiwi Encounter
A fantastic combination of cruising around Stewart Island's outer Islands spotting birds, seals and other wildlife & enjoying fantastic scenery, and bush walking in beautiful bush in the hope of spotting kiwi. Our guides (Karen, Natasha & Nick the skipper) had fantastic knowledge of the history of the area and the diverse wildlife. Despite the rainy night, we were lucky enough to see three Kiwi, which was an added bonus to all the other wildlife and amazing seascapes and sunset skies earlier in the night. A trip that's much more than a Kiwi encounter and well worth doing.

Lovely tour to see new birds
Lovely trip to learn more about Stewart Island and then Ulva. Levin was a great guide that gave us so much information before we even got to Ulva. On land, we saw wonderful birds and learned about their behavior and habits. Levin helped us find parrots and riflemen and helped us hear the calls of many others. We covered the beach and saw tracks from sea lions. This was a great day out and I certainly could have spent even longer on Ulva.

Great overview of Stewart Island's coastal life, and also Kiwis
The guides were very knowledgible but the Kiwis were elusive. All of the group had a glimpse of a Kiwi, some of the group saw more of a look.

Didn’t have much expectations for this tour. The tour guide was outstanding in articulating the history and able to tell a good story. She kept everyone engaged while she was driving the bus of which she also did a phenomenal job. We were able to see quite a bit of the island with stops to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery that Stewart Island has to offer.

Can highly recommend this bus tour around Stewart Island.
Our driver Rhys was so knowledgeable of the island, and linked culture and history seamlessly into his narrative.
Excellent information and interaction with “ the tourists”.

One of the best tours we had in the entire 15 days at New Zealand. It's a long day which starts with a pickup from Invercargill. The driver didn't have much to speak, maybe there isn't too much of content or it was the early hours but she went the extra mile and included a drop till Bluff for photo-op which was awesome. Then she dropped us at the ferry and the ferry ride was great. It was a bit bumpy and if you are not careful, may get a bit nauseous. Once you get down at Stewart Island, probably an usher or guide would be handy because the pickup point of bus tour of the island is a 2 minute walk away and we had to scramble to first check and then reach there on time. The bus tour was the best and the walks and hikes on the island in Rakiura was well managed, informative and well-paced. Our bus guide knew the city in India where we came from and that made for a nice little chitchat topic. He even made the entire bus cheer for us newlyweds which was a lovely touch. Clearly the best guide we had so far in NZ. It's a rushed tour and you are only back in Invercargill at around 6pm so be mindful of the fact and make sure you have some dinner options handy because restaurants close early there.

We flew to Stewart Island for a very short stay (only 5 hours) and chose the bus tour to fit as much in as possible in a short time. Our group was small, and we received very personal service from the guide/driver. Rhys was very informative and entertaining. He had a real working history of the settlement and island. He pointed out all the local attractions and things to do on such a short visit. What a ripper bloke! The tour unfolded stunning panorama after panorama. Highly recommended!

We did the Real NZ Ulva Island Tour, Kiwi Tour and the Stewart Island Mini Bus Tour around the island.

We liked all 3 tours and it was a good way to see the Island, especially since this was our first time here. I would recommend all of them. They were all different in their own way and we saw different things on each tour.

The Ulva Island Tour and Kiwi Tour involves a boat trip and guided walk. The mini bus tour goes for about 1.5 hours showing the Island by road. All great tours.

A great introduction to Stewart Island, particularly for those over just for the night or, like us, a little averse to hiking. Our tour was a lot of fun and very crowded as we were fortunate (????) to have a very rowdy tour group of New Zealanders with us. Reece our driver handled the situation with ease and ensured that my partner & I were comfortable and at ease, particularly as we are Australian.
Our only issue was that the tour seemed a little brief and it would have been nice to have travelled further around the Island. However, to be fair, in this instance there may have been extenuating circumstances.

Thank you for sharing your experience of the Village and Bays Tour! We're pleased to hear that the tour provided a great introduction to Stewart Island, especially for those with limited time or a preference against hiking. It's great to know that Reece, your driver, handled the lively tour group with ease and ensured your comfort, even considering the playful banter between Australians and New Zealanders. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an even more enjoyable exploration of Stewart Island in the future!
