      Beautiful but not quite amazing
Beautiful rooms with privacy, amazing location, no need to leave the winery for a weekend stay as plenty to do. Staff were brilliant. Really disappointed in the lack of options for Gluten free. Dinner menu offered the same 3 options for both nights. Continental breakfast included but all I was given was 1 piece of toast and fruit whilst hubby had croissants and danishes. I would have thought they had plenty of time to instruct the restaurant to cater for me. Restaurant options poor, had to bring my own crackers for the cheese board. The wine/cave tour was fantastic. Tourguide Lucy was beautiful. Very expensive.

Fabulous Bike Riding day at Gibbston Valley
We had a fabulous day riding around Gibbston Valley on E-Bikes. We started the day at Gibbston Valley where Zac gave us a very knowledgeable introduction to the area and a unique wine tasting experience in the Cave. All wineries were very hospitable and the food and wine were exceptional. Would highly recommend a visit.

      Pinot Noir Only
My wife and I visited the Gibbston Valley winery on the Easter weekend in 2024 for the wine cave tour. We didn’t realise that they don’t sell alcohol during Easter. Fortunately the tour included 3 tastings which cost $25 a head. It’s a great little winery.

      Cool Cave Experience!
We did the cave tour with Zach! Super knowledgeable and friendly guy. The wine was exceptional and the cave is a must see! Bought a Pinot noir bottle for later

      Don’t bother .. they didn’t
Underwhelming experience. Arrived, no service acknowledgment so we hung around and then when we got someone’s attention finally we ordered 2 flights of wine. QR code was the only tasting information provided, and then one of the descriptions is only 6 words. Really. No personal information, no real service, no in-depth wine tasting notes. They didn’t really bother which makes me think why should we .. much better options elsewhere. Give this one a miss.

      A little underwhelming
Honestly I was underwhelmed. The wines tasted in the cave were not nearly as good as those available for tasting at the main cellar/restaurant. The experience was short and felt a little rushed. It was on par with the price we paid though.

      Just lovely
Beautiful vineyard. We did a wine tasting - small amount but free tasting, we went on to buy two fabulous bottles of wine.

I wouldn't come back or recommend it
I took a friend who's visiting from overseas here. When we arrived we waited at the door trying to figure out if we could do lunch at the restaurant or wine tasting first, stood there for a good 5 mins without anyone coming to see if we needed help even though plenty of staff walked by several times. Finally someone asked and suggested we eat first, so we shuffled over to the restaurant, again, same experience, staff walked by told us they'll be with us several times before we were seated. It was a bit busy so that was understandable, but the attitude from most staff who spoke to us had a bit of a "I don't wanna be here" attitude, although our server, Grace was pleasant and welcoming, and that was the only highlight. The wine tasting part went a bit of a similar pattern, waited a while even though it was quiet, staff were just trying to get on with their cleaning and paperwork and what not. They eventually brought out the tasting panel of wines, no intro, just told us to scan the qr code for tasting notes. Why do we bother to actually visit the vineyard if that's the experience we get? I'd definitely be giving this a miss in the future.

Never coming back with a group!
I will not return to Gibbston Valley with a group. We were 5 minutes late with a group and they had scheduled us for 30 minutes for a tasting in the cave, and they said we were too late because there was another group right behind us. Who schedules cave tours and tasting s for just 30 minutes (for a group of 19)?? But it was the eye-rolling server who really put me off. I know it’s the height of tourist season but…we’re the reason you have a job! Be respectful or we can go elsewhere.

Cheese and wine, not much to dislike!
We did the cheese and wine tour with Zach and had a great time. Both the cheeses and wines were delicious and the pairings were excellently chosen, I’d certainly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Nice winery. Room for improvement for non-alcoholic drinkers
Lovely little winery. We indicated on our booking that one of us was non-alcoholic, and to have an alternative non-alcoholic drink option ready. On arrival no one was aware or prepared. We have noticed New Zealand wineries do not take into account non-drinkers which is a missed opportunity. Luckily the issue was solved by providing a locally produced orange juice instead.

      Amazing food
Great views awesome food even though the serve was small. The server Jolie is awesome however initially the server we got was outright rude. The table she gave us was in the Sun n when we told her it is hot she was not at all a person who would be there to find a solution and simply walked away . Found her to be extremely rude and not at all as someone who should be in the service industry. We understand that we did not have reservation for a table however even after we finished our meal half of the area was still empty including the table that we had asked for . Glad that we stayed back since we weee very hungry and Jolie was excellent stafff and the food was great.

      Brilliant
Did the e-bike tour and our first stop was Gibbston winery for our anniversary. Jolie served us in the restaurant and made us feel incredibly special. Food and cheese was awesome and she knew so much about wine! Was super interesting. Definitely will be back.

I was very disappointed about the winery tour we had. I took my friends there so that they can understand little more the winemaking world and considering I worked in wineries myself I could see and hear the guide was not educated enough to answer the questions of the visitors. The "vineyard tour" meant we stand next to one row by the asfalt road, not even in between vines, the guide had to even admit she did not know some answers others had, tour of winery meant one stop with very very brief description of the process. The cave was nice, but again, we didn't get much information and I would say even wrong information.
Considering the tour costs $35 this is a huge trap for tourists and one will not learn anything from such visit. Much better experience with much more knowledge in any winery in Cromwell or Bannockburn! I was expecting more.

We booked a Wine and Cheese Tasting Tour and we were disappointed when the tour was cut short due to an event being booked at the same time. However, Zach was an amazing tour guide and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and satisfied with our experience. He took us back into the Wine Cave after the event had finished and gave us the background of the place and the wines. We left with amazing memories and we’d be happy to return again with Zach as our tour guide!! He was extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic and it was an awesome experience.

We had the wine and cheese tasting tour it was great. We learned so much about the interaction of cheese and wine of different varieties. It took us out of our usual comfort zone and has helped develop a much broader appreciation for both wines and cheeses. Handy given our wine club membership at Gibson's from last year.

We had a wonderful tour guide Yolanda! For two people that aren’t even wine drinkers I was so interested to hear about the different processes and precision of wine making. We got to try 6 different wines, and each tester was a generous amount which was awesome! Yolanda was so kind, open, and honestly made the experience wonderful because she was so funny and personable. It felt like she wanted us to have a great time, she even spent an extra 30 minutes doing the tour with us to answer questions and let us take our time trying out the wine. Such a fun afternoon.

Also, we rented bikes from the winery which rounded off the afternoon so well as the Kawarau bungy jumping bridge was only a 45-min return trip!! Highly recommend this.

Also, the cheese platters at the restaurant are delicious!!

We stayed at the Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa & decided to do a wine tour that included the caves. So worth it, Lucy was our guide & was so knowledgeable & we even got to try a couple of other wines on top of the 4 that were included. We have visited wine caves in Napa Valley & although Gibbston wine cave is smaller the history & story behind the winemaker & the location puts this on the list of wine caves to visit

I had the pleasure of being with a group of American post graduate students from Virginia visiting the Gibbston Valley Winery as part of their stay here in Queenstown. We spent about 4 hours there, having lunch, listening to the professional and passionate Chris Keys talk about wine making and then touring the cave with Jake. The whole experience was so special and the way staff managed the visitor experience was benchmark "stuff." Thanks to all the wait staff as well as our guides Jake and Chris...a special day at a special place.

Fascinating tour in a stunning location. Jolie a superb hostess & guide, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and clear to listen to and a world of information on a wide variety of subjects & every aspect of the wine & winery of course.
Stayed-on for lunch after the tour & tasting on recommendation from tourists we got talking to in town and certainly weren't disappointed. Service, presentation (plating) and flavors world-class. Will certainly recommend & be coming back.

We booked a wine tasting here, it was a small group with four people, we could spend quality time asking questions and had the chance to slowly tased wine. The lady whose name is Lee was in lead of the wine tour, she is very nice and gave us very good recommendations according to my favourite “Merlot”. Unfortunately central Otago doesn’t have to heat to make Merlot, we tried the China Terrace which also satisfied us.

This would be the busiest winery we visited while on a tour so it felt slightly less personal and that is the only reason I scored it 4 out of 5. Everything else is excellent. They have a true asset in Bindy as she was extremely energetic, knowledgeable, personable and great fun as well as providing great advice to match our palettes. The wine cave is awesome and the history/story that goes with it shows a real can do attitude to succeed. The cheese shop was good with a good variety. We had time for one extra tasting from the advice of Bindy that matched perfectly to my tastes so it was a must to leave with 2 bottles of the China terrace pinot noir. I would definitely come back again and probably stay for a meal as well.

It was interesting to see a working winery and hear about the history of some NZ vineyards. We tasted 5 wines and had bike hire as part of the package - this was good fun.
Our tour guide had limited experience (his words) so could not answer all the group’s questions but all in all it was a very pleasant way to spend half a day.
