      Wine and cheese taste experience
I was not expecting much, but this wine tasting gives me more than I expected! The wine and cheese tasting was one on one as the other person did not show up. The instructor gave me clear explanation on each wine of how to smell it and taste wine first and then cheese. Overall, it is fun experience. They also have transport from central Queenstown, and you can book it directly from their website, which save me a lot of time. If you have special needs, you can discuss it with the driver to see how to meet it. Perfect place to relax before my evening flight back to Wellington. I would definitely go back to visit when I'm in Queenstown next time. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌

Totally uninspiring and disappointing wine tasting - awful service
Visited for wine tasting whilst doing wine trail. What a disappointment - basically ‘thrown’ tasting tray and told to scan QR code for tasting notes that’s it. No atmosphere no interaction nothing. Go to Kinross instead where they do it properly

Good wine tasting and avoid the Cheesery
The wine tasting was amazing, great experience with all in the garden…. The cheesery was disappointing we were planning to buy some for the evening not enjoy with wine but the asian lady serving was rude and not interested in helping anyone at all.

      Tasty Cheese & Delightful Wines
The review was great! Maddie was an amazing guide who went above and beyond for our group. We also got food at the restaurant before the tasting & it was delicious!

      Just rubbish
Very little background info given to the wines No detail on the grape varietals, climate, process etc. No detail on the different notes for each wine. Felt rushed and host appeared uninterested. Waste of time and money.

      Wonderful
Gibbston Valley is the birthplace of Central Otago Pinot Noir, dating back to 1983 when Alan Brady planted the first vines in this rocky terrain. A highlight was the wine cave tour—a must-do! Lauri was our guide and he did an excellent job. The cave, carved into schist rock, provides perfect conditions for aging their incredible wines. Standing among the barrels, sipping many wines including their Pinot Noir, was heaven. Easily a 10/10 experience.

Gibbston cave tour and bike hire
Highly recommend! Not sure what I was expecting but it totally blew my expectations. The tour was the perfect length and amount of information, the wine was delightful. The host was funny and lovely. We didnt stay for lunch on this occasion but we will definitely be back, the grounds are incredible. We hired e bikes from their bike garage and set off to a couple other local destinations. The staff were funny and helpful. Thanks Gibbston!

      Biking and winery visits
We did the e-biking and winery/cave tour which was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Everyone at Gibbston was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed the bike trail down to Mount Rosa and back.

      Lauri was a star
Lauri was lovely! He was so personable. Other staff were disparaging but he was lovely. Went to Gibbston on the Wine Hopper bus and did a flight tasting. Wines were good & bread & brown butter was delicious.

      Really interesting
This tour was part of an accommodation package with Gibbston Valley Lodge and we’re so pleased it was as we probably would never have done it otherwise. The tour was interesting and really informative. The story of the cave was great.

      Learning with beautiful wine.
The knowledge of our wine tour guide was invaluable. He was super helpful and open to all questions. We aren’t wine connoisseurs, so thank you for making us feel comfortable and welcoming with all our little questions. We learnt a lot about Gibbston Valley, tried some new favourites and really enjoyed this part of our wine tour. The Red Shed Pinot Blanc was absolutely delicious. Thanks again.

Historic winery and cheesery within walking distance to the Kawarau River and the famous bungee jumping Kawarau Bridge.
I highly recommend this historic winery that started the production of wine in this region. They also make their own cheeses. What a perfect combination. Their driver, Jason, picked me up and transported me back to the pickup spot in Queenstown afterwards. He was very interesting to converse with and a wealth of knowledge about the area and various activities. Maddy took excellent care of me for the wine and cheese tour thoroughly explaining everything and answering all of my questions inside of the cave where the wine is stored which is very interesting and educational. Jason gave me a ride to the Kawarau bridge so I could walk over this historic piece of history and watch someone bungee jump off of it. He thoroughly explained the best way for me to walk back to the winery enjoying the gorgeous views of the Kawarau River along the way. I tried their fish tiradito with more Pinot Noir after my tour while sitting next to the fireplace relaxing. Outstanding! I highly recommend visiting this winery and cheesery when in Queenstown. You won’t be disappointed.

      Ian is a vibe
This was my second visit to Gibbston Valley Wines, and it didn’t disappoint. We began with a tasty lunch in a private room with colleagues, then enjoyed an exceptional wine tour led by the most energetic guide, Ian. His boundless energy, deep knowledge of wine, and genuine passion made the experience truly memorable.

Great winery tour with lovely Gibbston Valley Winery team!!!
We had a great day - spending time at the cheese deli, warming by the fire on a cold foggy day, and a great wine tour/tasting with Sally who was full of great info and ready to answer heaps of novice questions! We really enjoyed the wine cave tour topped off by a lovely lunch where we were looked after by Jolie! Can’t forget about George who was our coach driver who was kind and thoughtful! We definitely recommend visiting this winery:) and will be back!

Really cool experience! We opted for a pickup from the CBD, and our driver, George, was so kind and pointed out some interesting places on the way to the winery. Highly recommend checking out the cheesery and have a meal at their restaurant (the quality of food is top notch). The wine tour itself was very informative and the wine cave is really cool (quite literally). Tasted 4 different types of wine, and it tasted so fresh.

I had the pleasure of being with a group of American post graduate students from Virginia visiting the Gibbston Valley Winery as part of their stay here in Queenstown. We spent about 4 hours there, having lunch, listening to the professional and passionate Chris Keys talk about wine making and then touring the cave with Jake. The whole experience was so special and the way staff managed the visitor experience was benchmark "stuff." Thanks to all the wait staff as well as our guides Jake and Chris...a special day at a special place.

We stayed at the Gibbston Valley Lodge & Spa & decided to do a wine tour that included the caves. So worth it, Lucy was our guide & was so knowledgeable & we even got to try a couple of other wines on top of the 4 that were included. We have visited wine caves in Napa Valley & although Gibbston wine cave is smaller the history & story behind the winemaker & the location puts this on the list of wine caves to visit

Unfortunately, my visit to Gibbston Valley was quite disappointing. I had high expectations based on the reputation of this vineyard, but the experience fell short in almost every way.

No Real Tour – Just a Tasting:
Despite being marketed as a tour, what we actually received was just a wine and cheese tasting. There was no tour of the vineyard, winery, or cellar, and absolutely no behind-the-scenes insights into the winemaking process, which was a major letdown. The whole experience felt very commercialized, and it didn’t live up to the immersive experience we were hoping for.

    Expensive and Not Worth It:
The experience was overpriced for what was offered. We paid a premium price, but in return, we only got a few small pours of wine and some cheese, with little explanation or effort from the staff to make it feel special. For what they charge, I expected much more, including a proper tour and better service.

    Commercialized Feel:
The whole thing felt very commercialized. The personal touch and passion you expect from a boutique vineyard were missing. Instead, it felt like we were just another group shuffled through quickly, with little care or attention to making it a memorable experience.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this experience. It’s overpriced and lacks the depth and personal touch that you would expect from a vineyard visit. If you’re expecting a true tour or insight into winemaking, you’ll be left disappointed. You can get much better wine-tasting experiences elsewhere in the region.

$25 wine tasting was a waste of time. Our group of six felt like we were rushed in that out of the place. The server seemed put out to describe the wines when asked. Worst of all, the tasting fee could not be applied to a wine purchase.

I was very disappointed about the winery tour we had. I took my friends there so that they can understand little more the winemaking world and considering I worked in wineries myself I could see and hear the guide was not educated enough to answer the questions of the visitors. The "vineyard tour" meant we stand next to one row by the asfalt road, not even in between vines, the guide had to even admit she did not know some answers others had, tour of winery meant one stop with very very brief description of the process. The cave was nice, but again, we didn't get much information and I would say even wrong information.
Considering the tour costs $35 this is a huge trap for tourists and one will not learn anything from such visit. Much better experience with much more knowledge in any winery in Cromwell or Bannockburn! I was expecting more.

Fascinating tour in a stunning location. Jolie a superb hostess & guide, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and clear to listen to and a world of information on a wide variety of subjects & every aspect of the wine & winery of course.
Stayed-on for lunch after the tour & tasting on recommendation from tourists we got talking to in town and certainly weren't disappointed. Service, presentation (plating) and flavors world-class. Will certainly recommend & be coming back.

Wonderful experience. Our guide, Lucy, was so knowledgeable and clearly loved her job and all things wine. She was so gracious in our questions and made the whole experience a joy. We bought several bottles of wine and she even gave us fabulous recommendations for dinner since the restaurant had already closed.
The vineyard was beautiful and the wine cave so interesting. We tried 4 wines in the cave. Amazing experience. I can’t believe it was so inexpensive.

We had the wine and cheese tasting tour it was great. We learned so much about the interaction of cheese and wine of different varieties. It took us out of our usual comfort zone and has helped develop a much broader appreciation for both wines and cheeses. Handy given our wine club membership at Gibson's from last year.

Bindi was amazing! She gave us an interesting tour of the wine cave and gave us detailed explanations about the winemaking process. She truely made us feel comfortable, made us laugh and offered us many great wines. A personalised experience we all enjoyed with great boutique wines. She has a gift with people and contributed to our more than satisfactory experience.
