Unforgettable journey with stunning views and professional crew
Flying with True South Flights from Queenstown to Milford Sound was one of the best experiences we've ever had. From the moment we boarded, the service was exceptional. Our pilot, Liam, and his copilot were incredibly friendly and professional, immediately putting us at ease. Despite not being a fan of flying myself, I was amazed at how smooth the flight was. We soared over stunning mountain ranges, taking views of incredible glaciers and cascading waterfalls. The scenery was absolutely mesmerizing. The landing at Milford Sound was out of this world, perfectly executed and leaving us in awe. The boat ride through Milford Sound was equally fantastic, offering us a chance to see more of this natural wonder from a different perspective. We were thrilled to spot some dolphins along the way, which was the cherry on top of an already perfect day. This experience was truly unforgettable, and we can't recommend True South Flights enough. If I could, I'd give them 1000 stars.

Best way to see Queenstown - amazing service and inflight experience
The entire team at True South were amazing. Luke was so knowledgeable about the area and provided an incredible inflight experience, loved every single second of him at the helm. Would recommend this experience to anyone, truly once in a lifetime views. Communication was the best I have experience from any company ever. Initial date was weather impacted and the staff immediately assisted in re-scheduling. Best advice is to make initial reservation for early in your stay so you have the chance to be able to fly if weather is not on your side.

        Milford Sound Flight & Cruise
The whole experience was phenomenal and professionally run from start to finish. The pickup and drop offs from our accommodation were simple. Both flights were great and our pilot, Andrew, was a great guide throughout both trips. He pointed out various mountain ranges, valleys, and key points of interests on both flights and was very knowledgeable of the area. He also took a different route back to Queenstown which allowed us to get twice the amount of scenic views.

        Unforgettable Amazing Experience
This was a spectacular experience. It will forever be etched in my memory. Super special ❤️. The scenic flight was amazing and Andrew (pilot) provided indepth commentary throughout. Onto the boat trip, lost for words, just simply breathtakingly beautiful. The captain of the boat had quite the sense of humour and also provided great commentary. I highly recommend booking with True South Flights, they are friendly, helpful and professional. Don't think twice! Do yourself a favour and book! You will not regret it.

10/10. Spectacular scenery both by air and water. The flight over the snow caps was just amazing and then you had majestic Milford Sound as well. And the pilot, Dion was fantastic! I would do this over and over again!

100% recommend True South Milford Sound experience
100% recommend this experience of Milford Sound. True South, and the safe hands of Bus Driver Matt and Pilot Andrew. Everyone was very friendly, knowledgeable and overall professional. The communication before, during and after the day was excellent. We were very fortunate with the weather, albeit super cold, it was clear and beautiful. The flight over the mountains was just as exciting as the cruise. We took snacks & water as recommended. I was hesitant to book the fly- cruise-fly because of the price, however I have absolutely no regrets. Book now!

        Insane views and gorgeous scenery
His was the absolute highlight of our New Zealand adventure. Our pilot Kevin was amazing. The views are incredible. What a spectacular place. The boat ride was fun and the captain was very playful and funny. The pies on the boat were surprisingly delicious. We did the 9:30 am tour which I highly recommend because when we returned the ferry terminal was very crowded. Highly recommend.

        Five amazing hours
From the on-time pick up at our hotel through the check in, flight, cruise, return flight and finally to the drop off, the entire experience was courteously and efficiently managed. Andrew was an excellent pilot and guide and his commentary added significantly to our enjoyment of the experience. The cruise was thoroughly enjoyable too - stunning scenery and saw seals and dolphins - and we were very glad to get back into our plane for the 50 minute flight back rather than face a 4.5 hour road trip. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Amazing experience! Communication and organisation was great from the True South flights and the partner hiking guide. I went solo and had a lot of fun, It was a kind group of people of all ages!

No complaints! I’d suggest booking this at the beginning of your holiday so there is room to transfer to another day as the weather is unpredictable. My date changed 3 times, due to the weather. (The staff at True South we’re very understanding and patient when I’d communicate daily regarding weather updates).

Just awesome! Incredible service all the way from the hotel pick up to drop off. Jason was an excellent pilot and great guide on the flight up and the helicopter operation up at the glacier was superb too. Very smooth logistics and a fun and skilled guide out on the ice.
We can’t decide which was the highlight of the day: exploring the ice caves and crevasses surrounded by incredible mountain peaks or the scenery from the plane on the flight up. Our best day in NZ so far ( and that’s a high bar). Try not to miss this this one.

Never been on a helicopter before but this experience sounded amazing. Well - it was! We got dropped off on Tasman glacier and Andy, our guide, did a nice job explaining the forming and melting of of glaciers. Besides hiking on top of the glacier, we were able to explore a natural ice cave…. That will only be around for about one year. Being inside the glacier was a lifetime memory. Beautiful and amazing all in one.

Deborah and Melissa were awesome with getting us signed up and letting us know when and how to check in and arranging a pickup for us.

Peter, our driver, overheard us realizing we had left a phone at the Platinum Villas where he picked us up. He said that it’d be a rush for us to get back there before our flight after the tour.

He offered to pick up the phone for us and arranged to do so while we were on tour. Thank you Peter!

Garrett was our pilot to the base of the mountain and was awesome! He shared lots of information about the scenery on the way to the mountain and back.

The hike itself was great too and so was the heli ride. This experience was definitely worth the price of admission.

This is a fantastic experience, Matt our guild was fantastic and really looked after us and the group ensuring safety and a great experience
The whole trip was fantastic, great scenery and once in a lifetime memory…
Would have been a five star no doubt except for how we were greeted on return by the girl working on ground staff,
We returned, got off the helicopter and walked into the terminal as had no other instructions
After 5 minutes in the terminal we were approached by a young lady that said, did you just get off the last helicopter in.
      Yes I said.
Why didn’t you wait in the yellow box she asked
Because no one told us too I replied.
You were supposed to wait in the yellow box,
      No one told us too
Now I have to write a report on this.
      Not my issue I said.
She again said you had to wait in the yellow box
And again i said no one told us.
When leaving my wife who missed the whole conversation said ‘thanks that great’ and was greeted with a grunt.

11 out of 10 experience if you take this girl out of play as the rest of it was amazing, pilot and guide fantastic.
Only takes one person to pull things down.

I recently booked two excursions with True South with Elliot Kensington as my pilot for both because he was just awesome! I could not have been happier with my experience from working with Bridget in the office and having Elliot be my guide and pilot.

The first excursion was the flight to Franz Josef Glacier for a heli hike. It was an hour flight there and an hour flight back. This was an amazing flight experience in a Piper Lance aircraft. Elliot was a great guide and as I sat in the co-pilot seat on the way back to Queenstown he explained all the gauges and instruments to me. When the heli-hike was over, he was there waiting to go back to airfield. This trip althoug a little costly was worth every penny! The view from the plane was unmmatched and have the photos to prove it. If you want to go to Franz Josef from Queenstown and not stay there, True South is the best most efficient option. Ask for Elliot!

The 2nd excursion turned into a scenic flight to Milford Sound due to the weather. Weather is unpredictable here so give yourself an open schedule and be flexible. Elliot was my pilot again on request as I had such an amazing experience the previous day. Day 2 was just as great. Again I sat in the co-pilot seat of the Piper Lance aircraft and has a blast. The views were incredible and Elliot kept coaching me on how to navigate and what was happening. Overall , another amazing day and worth every penny.

I absolutely loved these excursions and Elliot made them fantastic. I would absolutely work with True South again and recommend anyone going to Queenstown to book an excursion with True South. Bridget in the office is fantastic and accommodating and the team is amazing. Had a blast! Thanks Elliot and team.

To preface, this was by far one of the most expensive activities I've done in all of Australia and New Zealand. Therefore, I had high expectations. I believe in spending more money on experiences than accommodation or food when traveling. I was told by a travel agent that this was a great tour operator for a heli-hike experience...

Everything was going smoothly. We had a scenic flight from Queenstown to Mt. Cook airport and the weather was clear. But, when we arrived at Mt. Cook airport, they checked us in, gave us gear, gave a safety briefing, ... the whole deal. But, the tour guide had decided to pre-empt the helicopter flight to the glacier with a note about how long we would spend on the ice and the refund policy...

I was part of the first group to take the helicopter to Tasman glacier. We landed and then our guide said he would rather wait for the second group to land before guiding us. When we landed and shortly after, it looked dreary, cold, and began to rain a bit. So, we waited quite some time on the ice until he finally got a notification that the pilot did not feel it was safe to fly the second group over. We thought we were extremely lucky to have already landed and may get a private hike. He began talking about glaciers, showed us how to put our crampons on our shoes, and we didn't walk very far before we saw an ice cave. The ice cave was relatively small, but it was still an ice cave, which is interesting to see nonetheless. Shortly after seeing this ice cave, he was notified that the 'hike' would end and the pilot would come to pick us up and return us back to the airport

Everyone was bummed. The second group did not touch down on the glacier at all and only got a 'partial refund' for the actual guided hike, but not for the scenic flight portion. The first group - although lucky to see an ice cave at all - spent less than an hour on the ice (some of which was waiting for the second group, putting the crampons on the shoes, and walking a short distance to an ice cave) and they didn't want to refund people due to inclement weather and their policy about landing on the glacier and being there for X amount of time.

So, I took my time to write this review because I was really disappointed by this experience. It was a very expensive activity and I wasn't so much interested in the scenic flights as I was about doing the actual glacier hike, which in the end, we didn't get to do. In the end, they only gave me the tiniest refund of 149 NZD, but it doesn't change the fact that I spent $1,399 NZD on this experience and didn't even get to experience much of the glacier at all.

The company had not called or notified anyone that day to let us know that conditions may not be safe BEFORE we flew from Queenstown to Mt. Cook, which would have been the more respectable thing to do. After you take the flight, they cannot refund you for that and then you're stuck in Mt. Cook and still need to return. As a consequence, you then have taken their flight to Mt. Cook and the return flight back, so you basically just paid for scenic flights without having the true glacial experience.

So, my words of wisdom to you all is to only book this tour when there is ZERO percent chance of any kind of inclement weather. Call the company that morning for a weather check before even getting on their transportation to try and save yourself lost money on an experience that won't end up happening.

Thank you for choosing our company and for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that you felt disappointed with the hike experience on Tasman glacier, as we strive to provide our customers with the best possible experiences. We would like to clarify that we did warn you before the flight that if the hike was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, a partial refund would apply. However, we understand your frustration and disappointment with the outcome of the tour, and we regret that we were unable to provide you with the full glacial experience that you were hoping for. In response to your feedback, we will be modifying our procedures to check the weather with the helicopter pilots in addition to the mountain guides before departure. This will help ensure that our customers are made aware of any potential weather-related issues before the flight, and can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the tour. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment that you experienced, and we appreciate the opportunity to learn from your feedback. We hope that you will consider giving us another chance in the future to provide you with a more enjoyable and memorable scenic flight experience. Kind Regards, Gareth Chief Pilot

Fantastic service from True South. They picked us up from our hotel and drove us to Queenstown Airport where we met our pilot, Matt. We then flew to Mt Cook Airport where we met our hiking guide and boarded a helicopter that took us up to Tasman Glacier. Definitely an experience to remember.
