About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Dave D0 contributionsGreat way to see the vineyards without having to drive yourself!Great fun and well organised. Definitely worth doing the whole day tour, so you don’t miss out. We did half tour last time and regretted not doing the full day. You won’t be able to stop at every place due to the large number of stops available. It is worth booking ahead for lunch. The drivers are friendly and the buses run on time.Written 19 November 2023
- Malasj840 contributionsAwesome ExperienceAwesome Tour to see other parts of Queenstown. The wine tasty experience highly recommended. Pick and choose where you want to hop offWritten 31 October 2022
- pasang1230 contributionsAmazing way to explore MarlboroughIt was a perfect way to explore Marlborough region and the wineries. The driver was knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend hop on hop off wine tours for the options of stops they have. We hopped off several stops and had an amazing mix of experiences from Aviation museum, beautiful art gallery to delightful meal and wine tasting in 3 different wineries. Would definitely explore Nelson and Queenstown with them next time.Written 30 October 2022
- Kaelalaura880 contributions10/10 experienceAmazing experience, we were a group of two couples and had so much fun! The stops were great especially the Akarua wine tasting. Highly recommend!Written 29 October 2022
- SallyW22450 contributionsWineries in a flashTo see as many venues as you can you need to plan ahead and limit your time to 40 minutes at each location. Having said that we enjoyed the view and experience at one location so much we stayed double the time. We had a lovely time and compared experiences with others. Apparently Broken Heart Gin Garden was popular but we missed that experience. Always another time!Written 29 October 2022
- maibee1470 contributionsGreat experienceSuch a great experience. Easy access to the busses and very friendly staff. A great day overall. Would definitely do it again!Written 17 October 2022
- 574nicoleb0 contributionsRepeat customerThe service was so good I’ll be bringing my next visiting friends on the tour. Easy to read timetable, nice bus, awesome driver, good winery options. It was a really fun day out!Written 7 October 2022
- Ross H0 contributionsFun tripBook ahead and have a relaxing day in the vineyards. We even managed a visit to a Gin Garden and a great Tavern as well as several great cellar doors such as Amisfield and AkaruaWritten 28 September 2022
- BethMoon1230 contributionsGreat day activity!Super easy to get around, a lovely way to see the wine region. A bus comes around regularly so you can move to different venues or stay and relax at a few. Lots of funWritten 1 September 2022
- Fearless031402623530 contributionsHalf day hop on and offThe drivers went out of there way to make sure we had a great day, one even looped back and missed his lunch break to drop us at another spot! The older gentlemen driver who’s name I can’t remember also said it was no bother for us to be dropped at Arrowtown at the end. We squeezed in 6 places in the half day in the end. The dispatch lady could have been a bit more friendly but we imagine it’s a stressful job!Written 31 August 2022
- DBarchard0 contributionsBest way to see the wine spots! The team were great, helped us reschedule when we couldn’t make our original booking! On the day the driver was great, full of info on the tour, think he had just been covering, but did a great job! We did this last year, was so fun that why we booked again, although it was quieter and we didn’t pre book at locations but Now I would recommend to make reservations as it’s gotten busier!Written 24 August 2022
- danika1720220 contributionsGood but should have more includedThe tour was good, nice places to visit. Unsure if it’s just me who found it super confusing with how it worked alongside the timetable and I assumed there would be something small included for the price but it was just the bus fare. It says there’s discounts for some places but I felt as though for what we did there was no benefits. If you pick certain locations it affects you seeing others with the way the timetable work. So if you have a rental car it would be easier to go to the places yourself with no time restraints. Despite this we still had a good time. And the places and food was great.Written 18 August 2022
- kerrynp7520 contributionsGreat way to visit a range of wineries! This is a great way to visit the wineries surrounding Queenstown without needing a car. The drivers were helpful and on time for each pick up!Written 25 July 2022
- salimimahnaz950 contributionsVery friendly and high qualityThey are very friendly and welcoming and there you can taste the best quality of wines. The location is great.Written 8 June 2022
- JoH2016QT0 contributionsAwesome Drivers!Fun and informative drivers who added to the whole experience! Easy to follow the hop on and hop off times too, would recommend booking the wine tastings if you have a group, and only do 4 in the half day tours.Written 18 May 2022

Easy (and FAR less expensive) way to visit the wineries. If you are just interested in a hassle-free way to sample some of best wines in Central Otago without a long tour, this is the way to do it. Shuttle drivers were prompt and were good drivers. We hopped on the 1:30 tour and visited 3 vineyards, but next time would hop on earlier and have lunch at one of them. It helps to do a little research ahead of time to know which you want to visit (highly recommend Wet Jacket, Brennan and Gibbston). There were a few drunk girls on the bus at the end of it, but they weren't too bad. We met some other very nice people and we all (minus the drink girls) went for a drink and snack together afterwards.

Me and a group of friends did the full day wine tour and it was such a great trip, one of the best wine tours i've done before. We managed to visit 7 wineries and all the tastings were reasonable priced, we even got discount at a few for being on the Hop on Hope off bus tour. Our driver Lore was more than helpful and helped make the day very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this bus tour and hope to do it again myself in the future.

This trip was well worthwhile. It pays to do a bit of research and plan which wineries you want to go to which we did.
I wouldn't recommend trying to do two in the one stop if it is 45 mins between buses. You can't do each one properly as it is too rushed. Will do again.

We did the half day trip and stopped off in Arrowtown at the Gibbston cheeses, then went to the Gibbston Valley winery, and the Gibbston tavern. The driver was very friendly and happy to help with any questions and this service is great value for money. It would be great for couples or a larger group and eliminates the need for a sober driver. Would use again.

We joined hop on hop off wine tours for their afternoon tour and had a wonderful time. Our driver Lore was simply amazing and was very knowledgeable about the different locations and helped us choose where to stop. We did only have time for three stops so if you want to try more places I would definitely recommend the full day tour.

A group of 10 us did this very overpriced tour.. even though we got a discounted price of $59.50 pp this seems an exhorbitant price considering this was ‘discounted’. The stops & circuit covered would not have been more than around 45kms in total. A private limousine would have been cheaper! Our first driver did not wear a mask, telling us she was exempt and yet all passengers were expected and did, wear masks. Not a good look for the company in these covid tomes. I would not recommend doing this tour at this price. It only include the bus transport- no water and of course wine tastings all cost $$$ at all the stops we went to.

Hello, firstly I want to address your comment of masks as this is very serious, this particular driver informs everyone who is onboard as she did with you, as you know she was exempt. She has a medical condition and is exempt, she wears the badge and has all the appropriate information if someone asks as well. You must wear masks if you are not exempt this is NZ law!. Secondly the run just one run is 75km and we do this 7 times so lately we are losing money not making any. You receive wonderful information and specials at all the places. It is fine to feel it is over priced as this is your opinion. Actually a private limousine for $600 for 7 hours that's farcical more like $1200 to $1500. We have also not had 10 people go out on our tour in one group for months and months so it was either your group did not tell us and this is not allowered or you were a 12 or 15 as I just went though all the bookings in our system for the last 4 months. 99% of clients love our tour. We wish you a good day. Juliearna Kavanagh the owner.

very disappointing service,
we were told to be ready for the bus to arrive 5 minutes early at each stop, only to wait 15+ minutes as the bus was late to every stop we went to, except for the first stop of the day were the bus was 10 minutes early, when we called and asked for clarity on where the bus stop is and what time to arrive the person on the other line proceeded to try and pin the blame on us for their poor service. One of the buses is old and very rickety felt as though hit was going to break down at any moment. The older man was very rude and condescending towards my family and I, he told us that he was unable to take us to the Gibbston tavern, even though it was clearly stated on the route and pressured us to get out at whatever stop he pleased. This business shouldn't include 'tour' in the title as it is more easily described as an overpriced public transport system as there is no flexibility and everything is completely on their terms, I would not recommend to anyone complete rip off.

Hi,
We are sorry to hear that your experience with our Hop on Hop off Wine Tours did not meet your expectations.
Please note, we do not ever instruct customers that our buses will arrive 5 minutes early at any stop. Our buses are scheduled to run on time, but occasional delays can occur due to factors beyond our control, such as traffic or roadworks. When delays do happen, we make every effort to get back on schedule as quickly as possible and ensure our customers are informed.
Regarding your concerns about the condition of our buses, we take vehicle maintenance very seriously. All of our buses are regularly inspected to ensure they are in good working condition, and we adhere to strict safety standards.
Our buses move in a forward motion and all the driver follows that. Unless customers want to return back to the venue that's passed, all our drivers understand that.
We do not understand. This is not how we operate at all and we are wondering if you have been on our tour at all.
Thank you!
Warm regards,
The HOHO Team

The hop on hop off wine tour is a must do when in Queenstown. We were picked up in the morning by our lovely bus driver Lori. Her cheerful personality set the tone for the day. We tried all the wineries she recommended and they were spot on. We had opted for the full day trip so that we didn't have to rush (given the amount there is to do, it was the right decision). At one point we asked for an additional stop and a special bus was sent to pick us up and drop us off at the chosen winery. Robbie our driver also very personable and knowledgable gave us lots of excellent tips. It was a brilliant day. Our favourite stops were Nockie's Palette and Brennan's Winery. Nockie's Palette is newly opened and is a gem of a place, set in the Stoneridge vineyards. The buildings have been lovingly built stone by stone by the owner herself, an artist, who was busy tending the roses when we arrived. The wines are carefully selected and each has a story which brings together wine making, art and a love of fine things. Our other favorite, Brennan's Winery, was so good we stayed there until the last bus came to pick us up and return us to Queenstown. The wines are scrumptious and once the tasting is done it's worth slowly savouring a couple of glasses of your favourite. Mine was the B2 Pinot Noir. The owner of the vineyard himself explains each of the wines and how they were made and if you are lucky he might also offer a taste of his wonderful not-Port Port.

We really enjoyed the Hop on Hop off wine tour! Our driver was Jen and she mentioned it was her first day when we got on there but you would never know if you weren't told. She was so friendly and informative and just made us feel really welcome. The tour itself is a great way to get around the winery's with a perfect amount of time inbetween!

Just booked my 4th trip on the Hop On Hop Off wine tour upcoming for July with 4 of my friends, at $79.50pp for a full day it's a awesome price.
The ease of jumping on and off wherever you like, means you're free to choose where you want to go, and everytime you do another tour you can change where you get off. Not to mention, it's such a social way to do a wine tour, by the end of the day, everyone is a bit tipsy and it's a bit of fun on the bus.
So far, I have done 1 in Marlborough (for my partners birthday) where we had a group of 10 people onboard, Juliearna (the boss) drove our bus and she was awesome, so open, friendly and down to earth, even arranging to drop us right home to our door. (pre-planned with the company)
I've done 2 (soon to be 3) trips in Queenstown with friends, and it was so easy to get from winery to winery, takes away the need for a sober driver. We also chose one place to stop at for lunch and just jumped back on the bus the next time it came around. This time we're stopping for breakfast at Akarua at 11am, then jumping back on after that. Personally, I wouldn't choose any other companyto do a wine tour with when I'm down in Queenstown.
I highly reccommend this company, if you are considering a tour in either Queenstown or Marlborough. :D

Hi,
Just to clarify, if we are wanting to finish the tour a bit earlier (i.e. after 2-3 stops for example) do we just hop back on the bus and it will take us back into town?
Thanks!
Written 2 August 2023
Nope! This is the problem I had, I followed the time table and said they going to go back into arrowtown, but the driver even refused to continue with the timetable as “all people are now in the valley and it doesn’t work that way” so took a break instead.
We had to organise our own way back into town as we started at the I think 10/10.30am tour and didn’t want to stay until 5.30pm for the back to town stop
Written 3 August 2023
If we stop at 4-5 wineries which ones are must visits and where is the best place for lunch.
Written 4 November 2020
Can you pick up the bus at Arrowtown rather than at the station.
Written 8 March 2020
Yes! That’s what we did. It worked great, although you do miss one winery.
Written 8 March 2020
I didn't notice since I'm not vegan. Normally, producers or retailers don't specifically separate the wines suitable for vegan from others in their tasting room or on their bottle shops. You might find the relevant information from the back labels or from their websites.
Written 16 January 2020
Does the price include wine tastings too? Is should we expect a separate cost?
Written 8 May 2019
The wine tasting is not included in the transport price. Tastings goes from $5 to $15 dollars.
Written 4 September 2019
You can check that on our website.
Thanks!
Written 4 September 2019
Hello. I just wanted to ask if this trip includes wine tastings? Or do we also need to pay to try wine?
Written 4 May 2019

Written 4 September 2019
Hi,
WOuld like some clarification. The cost per person is really for the transport to the different places, but each passenger can hop off and stay in a place and then hop on again to go to another place? So how many times can you hop on and off in a day? How long can you use the ticket? If we are 14, is it possible to create a tour for us specifically? How much would that cost?
Thanks.
