      Arrowtown to Gibbston Valley
We hired 2 electric bikes and rode the trail along the river through to Gibbston Valley Winery. A lovely ride, easy , and very safe. The company was easy to deal with and the guys super friendly. This was my first time on an electric bike so it was the ideal trail to ride.

A Brilliant way to spend a day.
Brilliant fun, thought 3/4 of a day would be enough, but would did less that 1/2 the wineries and would love to have biked more and then drank more! The whole meet at the shop, van ride to bike collection point, and the comprehensive safety brief were all well run and co-ordinated. Then we were off. Following the very clearly marked bike path, Criss crossing the river at times, the weather was perfect, the bikes were smooth and well maintained. We managed 4 wineries inc lunch but the day gets away with you for sure. If I'd had another day I would have done this again to get to some other venues. Have to peddle faster and drink faster or less maybe? We got the collection point, the bikes were loaded for us and all too soon it was back in the van trundling back to QT, full of tales of differnent wines whilst comparing overall speed and distance data on our phones, ever competitive!

Very fun, e-bikes were great and easy to learn
Fun experience. We rented the e-bikes and it was worth it. A few parts would have been harder, but definitely doable without e-bike. The bridges were beautiful. We stopped and watched some brave bungee jumpers. Finished the afternoon at the winery. Very fun afternoon.

      Highly Recommend for eMTB Hire
Great service, friendly staff and nothing too much trouble, would not hesitate to recommend if requiring electric MTBs in Queenstown. We had mûri-day hire and even when we experienced a problem with the battery charger a member of the team came out to our accommodation to fix the problem - customer service at its best!

Bad reaction when I challenged a charge.
I think I can count on one hand the number of adverse reviews I've posted. This will be one of them. You know how you feel when one of those budget airlines stings you extra when they get the chance. That was my experience. And the owner, to whom I asked to speak about it so he knew exactly where I was coming from, had zero interest in doing anything other than defending his charge and making me feel like I was quibbling. The bottom line is that I hired a great bike and had a good ride on a wonderful trail to Arrowtown. Realising I would likely be late back to Q'town to return the bike if I rode, I planned to jump onto a local bus. Unfortunately, it arrived late into Arrowtown and then got a flat tire. (First ever public bus I've been on that has had flat!). After a couple of calls back and forth to their office to let them know what was going on I was offered their bus pickup. Sounds fairly good to this point. But it's from here that they need to rethink how they handle a situation like this. After I deplaned from the broken public bus, so to speak, I got another call telling me they would charge me full price for their pickup. A short while later, when I called to check on where their bus pickup was (it too was running late), I let them know I thought the charge wasn't a fair thing to do in the circumstances. Then we go south even more. According to the owner, it was more than fair given almost the same amount would be charged as a late fee if I wasn't back by the deadline time. Where was this fee explained I asked? In the terms and conditions link if I cared to press it when I checked the bike out, apparently. Really! Who reads these things. Well, our conversation went downhill from here to the point where I was quite shocked with how little they seemed to care. Clearly they have a successful business. They have mostly good reviews but a couple of negative ones - and another that had their own challenging experience with owner. You will probably be 100% ok to use these guys, but if it's just a simple bike hire and not one of the packaged bike tours they offer, then be aware there are other good options in Q'town at similar price points.

Don’t go here if you expect service
We hired bikes to cycle on our own. No explanation at all - not about the bikes, not about the routes. Routes are from gravel and some are quite advanced, so a little explanation would have been helpful. Staff really didn’t care and were very uninterested. Bikes are decent.

      Great bike ride
Staff was very helpful and it was apparent they enjoyed their work. Great bikes! Trailers very scenic and easy on our E bikes. Wineries were informative and had great products. Really enjoyed the Church winery!

      Great wine and food
From beginning to end, it was a great trip. The pickup in Queenstown went well. The bikes were easy to operate. We stopped at the new Church winery, which is at the end of the trail. We were served some good wine and had great food enjoyed in an uncrowded peaceful setting. Josh picked us up on time and took care of the bikes. All we had to do was enjoy the trip.

Great bike trip for those of us who do not ride regularly!
Do not do this if you have trouble with heights. If you do not have trouble with heights, you will love this, even if you are not a seasoned cyclist. We rarely ride and got electric bikes to help us on upslopes. That made it so pleasant! We could really enjoy the scenery. There are amazing views and points of interest along the way. For example, we watched a woman do a bungee jump from one of the bridges. That’s not something we would do, but it was thrilling to see her doing it. It’s nice to end at the winery. We enjoyed their wine and had a great meal. This was among the highlights of our trip to Queenstown. Also, the bikes were well maintained and fitted to us. The trip coordinators did a great job getting us acclimated to our bikes before sending us off, and they were great about giving safety guidance and hints to keep us from getting off the path. Signage along the way is good as well.

      GREAT Day!
This was a really fun day! The service provided by Around the Basin was super. Especially the last minute scheduling change. You meet downtown and they bus you out towards Arrowtown , then fit your bike and safety talk. Give you the map and you're on your way. With the 3/4 day, we biked up to Arrowtown and had coffee. Highly recommend this as it was the most beautiful part of the ride and shaded. Then returned and started the winery tour in Gibbston Valley. Great wineries and beautiful views into the river canyon. You really don't need the E-Bike, but they made it lots of FUN! Highly recommend!

      Splurge for the e-bike option
Seriously, don't be a cheapskate and splurge that extra NZ$50 for the e-bike option. The Arrowtown To Gibbston Valley Half Day Ride was just the right amount of time with just the right amount of sights. A lunch at Gibbston Valley Winery while waiting to be picked up was the perfect ending.

An Amazing Ride Diminished by Less Than Customer Service Oriented Staff
An amazing ride with fantastic views and a well maintained path diminished by less than customer service oriented staff who twice insisted that rain was not in the forecast, even while it was raining at the time. Glad that we were forced to ahead when they would not cancel as an hour or so into the ride the weather improved.

      Disappointed by an Arrogant Owner
I’d recommend using someone else in circumstance where something goes wrong. Concept: The trails, Queenstown and Arrowtown and concept is awesome. Highly recommend the concept. Beware of smaller kids in some areas as paths can be a little unforgiving with loose gravel and a lack of consistent barriers. Experience: The provider picks and drops you off as part of the service. At the time of collection it became apparent that the provider varied this transport agreement without corroborating or verifying the change in arrangements with a subsequent phone call. The result was 4 adults and 5 children being stranded 20km away. Upon phone call to the office we were confronted by a defensive admin staff who refused to acknowledge that we called the office to confirm the pickup arrangement at 10:58am that day, even though we said we had confirmation of the agreement at the time. We were escalated to the “owner” who was immediately defensive and arrogant with language that served only to diminish us as a customer of his very large and busy company. We were advised that our contribution of $4000 over 2 days with 9 persons was not important. This was unnecessarily patronising and not subject to the matter at hand and not helpful to assist to resolve the challenge at hand. Importantly, no acknowledgment was made in the role of the provider in the miscommunication, apology or offer to assist in trying to help with the final resolution being that it was “our problem”. These are free things for any owner to give and are only withheld by egocentric leaders. I hope next time the owner is confronted by a challenge that his company has been a partie to creating he could recognise: - it’s incumbent on him solely, as the final point of complaint escalation, to appease a frustrated client. - That every client is important in any business (no matter how insignificant) and that a sincere apology and effort to help correct easy to make. Telling a client repeatedly that they are insignificant isn’t a professional approach. - Finally your role is to deescalate an issue and not to escalate it by argumentative and defensive in posture. And if you truly don’t believe that your customer is right, at least internalise your thoughts, apologise for the situation and try to play a positive hand in fixing the issue. In this example, a mere offer to call a taxi would have been an easy exit to take. Unilaterally defending your staff and the situation does nothing to advance your standards as a business or that of your team and is overall a poor management trait that limits your personal growth and that of your team you are responsible to coach everyday. Hopefully after today and learning others have had similar issues before you could introduce a protocol that changes to service arrangements are made through the office only and not on the fly at site level based on casual interaction.

fabulous days biking arrowtown to queenstown
It was well organised and the shuttle got us to Arrowtown. The E-bike choice was very good for us on the day as there are short sharp hills and very edgy corners; its advisable to have mtn bke experience to do this ride. We ride regularly usually on gravel bikes and found it challenging at times. The Tucker beach extension was not very well signaged if you take it and beware as they are spraying rabbit poison all along the track which you are not forewarned about either. I would not take this choice again and believe we should have been forewarned. the Kelvin peninsula extra kms option also is narrow path used for walkers and loose dogs as well as cyclists. Some parts have large exposed rocks which you either dodge or ride over leaving only about 12 inches on the side of the path tipping to waters edge. In our experience you really need mtn biking exp to take this path as well. you really need most of the day to do it if you want to stop and take photos and have lunch somewhere too. Overall a great day but our advice is take the e-bike choice and have a little experience navigating corners and wear appropriate biking shorts as you will need them.

Not enough time. Managed 3 wineries but felt rushed.

Arrived at the 4th just in time for our 4:30 pickup , however no flexibility to allow us to do our final tasting.

The wineries close at 5pm, so seems strange to have a 4:30 pickup. The extra 30 mins would have made a huge difference and would have allowed us to squeeze in our last tasting.

Do not book the half day and expect to get through the entire Gibston Valley.

The E bikes however we highly recommend as a way to experience the wineries but you need more time than what this package offers.

Always take the time to go to Chard Farm, great location, building, people and wine. A very personalised experience. I think

Hi Tad, we understand your feedback - and we do have a full day and a 3/4 day Bike The Wineries options as well. The 1/2 day is designed for people with busy holiday itineraries and will usually only allow time to visit 3 wineries, so you did well to make it to Chard Farm and get the whole way along the wine region. Our pick up times are set as it's not fair to keep other customers waiting who run to the times indicated when you book. Pleased to hear you enjoyed everything else and hopefully we may see you back on either our 3/4 or full day Bike The Wineries rides. Cheers Lisa.

This tour should come with a warning for anyone who suffers from vertigo. There are two suspended bridges to cross and most of the trail is along the edge of the gorge with a 100ft drop. The online tour description gives no warning of this. I suffer from extreme vertigo and ended up pushing the (heavy electric) bike for most of the tour. When we returned to the office to point out that a more helpful description of the surroundings would be a good idea for people with vertigo, we were met with a complete denial of responsibility or any sympathy, which seems consistent with other comments on this site. In fact, the manager’s reaction was “why should we be responsible for your vertigo” which frankly completely misses the point. On the plus side, the young guys driving the shuttle buses were great and the bike itself worked well (for the short time I used it!).

Hi 366alysonc Thanks for your feedback we have added a little more information to our website listing regarding the suspension bridges and river gorges. We're pleased that our shuttle driver was available to drive you around the road to Bungy so you didn't need to cross the Edgar and Kawarau bridges and hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time exploring the wineries in the Gibbston Valley.

Fantastic activity for all ages and fitness levels. We hired e bikes which were very easy to use and gave us the freedom to explore the wineries in the Gibbston valley without too much effort. We were able to fast at three wineries and enjoy lunch at one, next time we would probably do the 3/4 day trip so we could spend more time at each one.
    Thoroughly recommend doing this !

What a great way to see the Gibbston Valley! Had an amazing day with friends & family exploring the valley & wineries. We hired e-bikes which definitely made it more enjoyable for the slightly less fit in our group aka me! Did tastings along the way. Highlights were Gibbston Valley Winery, Kinross & Mt Rosa. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun day out.

Awesome trip. Well organized. First time we used e-bikes and they were excellent. Easy ride and we are in our 50s and had not ridden for years. Great scenery. Next time we would do the longer one as need more time if you want to do more than 3 x wine tastings. Staff professional and good humor. Thanks team.

He helped us sort out our bikes and gave us tips on how to have the best day exploring the wineries. Such kind people and the most fun day! Thank you guys for being a great company that allows us to have such a great unique experience in the Gibbston Valley! 400 stars!

Jason, our guide, drove 6 of us into arrowtown. He carefully set up our bikes, encouraged us to test them out then finally gave us bottles of water. We then took off. He met us several times along the way checking that we were all ok. We followed the arrow river across swing bridges meaning the scenery was awesome. We stopped off at the bungy bridge to watch the dare devils and use the conveniences. Our final leg was to the Gibbston Valley Winery. Jason was waiting for us and ensured we were looked after. The tour included wine tasting or a coffee. There was enough time left over to visit the cheesery for lunch before our departure.

I would thoroughly recommend this ride to people of all abilities. After all you could opt for electric bikes to make it easier.

Thank you Jason and around the basin bike tours.

This was one of the high lights for our trip, our guide was amazing, and the bikes were top quality. We really enjoyed ourselves and only wished we did the full day instead of the half! Bit on the pricey side, price doesn’t include any wines or foods however does include decent discounts at the various wineries/breweries!

If you’re more into your beer/cider I would recommend skipping the wine/cheese and heading straight for the wood fired pizza at the Gibson Tavern then onto the Cargo Brewery to relax in the sun in New Zealand’s beautiful scenery!

Hi Chuck - thanks for your review, pleased to hear your half day Bike The Wineries tour with us was a highlight of your trip to NZ. People often wish they'd booked our full day option - it is only $15 more, so a great choice, if your travel itinerary allows. We don't include food and wine in our $80 price point because with our detailed map you are given, you have flexibility to pick and choose which of the many wineries, cheesery, brewery and tavern you like the feel of, rather than have to go somewhere because you've already pre-paid for a tasting or platter. Wishing you a long and happy marriage :)
