        Wine and Smoked Fare
This was one of the most interesting of the several wine tours we took in New Zealand. The wine was excellent and the vintners interesting, but the star of the tour was lunch at the Stoakery Restaurant: meats and vegetables cooked in repurposed wine barrels served with a selection of Wild Earth wines. A unique and very tasty experience.

Helpful guide and good variation in wineries
Our guide, Al, was very knowledgeable of the area and gave us wonderful insight about the vineyards we were visiting. Each of the wineries treated us with their best pours and helpful tasting notes. Lunch was a real treat, we asked for the vegetarian option and it was one for the best plates we had in NZ. Al also made sure everything operated well, even helping out at the meal and cheese tasting. I highly recommend this company for a tour.

        Great experience.
This trip was a great experience. We had Paul as our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable, welcoming and ensured we had a great time. The wineries were lovely and the food was great. Would highly recommend.

Amazing Whiskey and Wine tasting luxury tour - one not to miss
My wife bought for me a Whiskey and Wine Tasting luxury tour. We were picked up from our hotel by John, who was wonderfully engaging and knowledgeable about the area we were travelling through. We went to the Cardrona Distillery for a personal tour of the distillation process and tasting afterwards, which was wonderfully delivered by the team at Cardrona. We then went to Kinross Vineyard's Celler Door which was representing 5 different vineyards followed by a food platter - all was amazing and well delivered by the local teams. Would highly recommend this tour.

One of the best wine tours I've been on around the world
Outstanding food and wine tour with an amazingly interesting group of people and a extremely knowledgeable guide. The sommelier were fantastic too. This region is known to produce some of the best Pinot Noir in the world. I learned sooooo much ... and tasted MANY wines...in fact it was one of the most generous wine tours in terms of how many wines we tasted. We visited Gibbston Valley Winery, Akarua winery, Misha's Vineyard (this where we had the main food tasting which was seriously spectacular... my favorite food thus far on our trip), and Mt. Rosa Wines. A couple of my favorites from rhe day were the 2023 Pinot Rouge by Akarua, 2022 China Terrace by Gibbston.

        Tasteful and fun day
Tasteful and fun day visiting 4 smaller wineries, including having a very tasteful lunch at one of them. Traveling together with a small group of 10 people from several different countries was great.

        Over-rated but enjoyable
An enjoyable day, led by Alan, who was very knowledgeable and entertaining. But I did not appreciate until too late that the price was quoted in US and not New Zealand dollars until after I had paid. At circa £145, I did not think the day good value. The gourmet lunch was certainly not haute cuisine.

        Great day out!
A really great day out with a lovely, friendly and knowledgeable guide. Although we visited several wineries, the day never felt rushed. Lunch at The Stoaker was delicious. Being in a small group of around 10-12 was great as everyone got to know each other a little. Highly recommended.

Great value, unique and special wines
Great selection of wines. The last winery (Brennan) had some really unique and special wines and the best vibes. Bonus was the friendly winery dogs on site to welcome us. Our driver Al was friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Lunch at Carrick winery was delicious, filling and good quality. Round trip transportation was included in the cost in addition to a tasting at each of the 4 wineries so great value for the price

Good tour if a little pricey
Very nice tour. Gazza was a super guide and we tried some really nice wines. The lunch at the Stoaker Room was good but the wines were poorly presented there - we could have been drinking anything because the wine was put into glass jars without even a lip and we had to pour them ourselves. Tour was quite expensive compared to others we have been on but we still had a good time. Cheese and wine at Mount Rosa was very nice

        A Must do Tour
I highly recommend this tour to go off the beaten tourist spots in Queenstown. Instead we had a relaxing day with our guide Phil and wine. Phil was extremely firendly and easy going, making us feel right at home from the very start. I am more of a photographer than a wine connoisseur and Phil obligong stopped along the way for photo ops. The wineries we visited included Kinross, where we sampled 5 different vineyards wine. The last one, Wild Irishman Pinot Noir, was the star of the show. Only 150 cases per year are made of this. The winemaker who makes this built the first Winery here in the 1980s. Next, we had a tasting and lunch at Mt Difficult winery. Our lunch was delicious - included a chacuterie platter with pesto burrata, smoked salmon, prosciutto, venison salami, pickled vegetables, Baba Ghanoush, hummus, marinated olives, flat bread and breadsticks. The scenery above the vineyard reminded us of SW USA with its flat-topped buttes. We had 2 more wineries on the itinerary, but we nixed one. Our last vineyard was Te Kano, which was the most scenic. The tasting room was cantilevered out across the incredible landscape of the Kawarau River looking out to the mountains beyond. On the way back to Queenstown, Phil stopped at the site of where the original town of Cromwell had been before it was moved when the Clyde Dam was built, thus, flooding Cromwell's Main Street creating Lake Dunstan. A historic reproduction of the street commemorates it. Another Photo op was at The Roaring Meg power stations fed by the Roaring Meg Dam. Meg was a spirited and enterprising redhead during Ce ntral Otago's gold rush days in the 1860s, memorialized by this turbulent and photogenic section of the glacially fed Kawarau River. Phil gave us some hints for our next day drive to Wanaka, recommending Arrowtown and driving across the Crown Range. We thoroughly enjoyed both. Phil made this day special for us and his suggesstions for the next day were amazing!

        Fun wine tour
Scheduled this solo while having free day from my tour group. So much fun. Punctual pickup. Friendly informative guide. I met people from different countries, something I had really been missing with my tour group. Everybody had a great time. The wines were amazing, the meal provided was unusual and delicious. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys good wines and some local history.

Some of the best food and wine we had on the South Island!
We had such a wonderful time on this tour exploring Waiheke. The three wineries we went to allowed us to try a variety of wines from the region and plenty of their famous Pinot noirs. We enjoyed having a tour of one of the only wine caves in the region that has a very colorful history! The lunch was the cherry on top of a wonderful day and one of the best lunches we experienced on the South Island! Highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys Pinots and delicious food!

A fantastic wine tasting trip and a great way to spend an afternoon.
Picked up from our Airbnb and taken to 3 very different wineries with no pressure to purchase (but of course we did because the wines were delicious!). Kinross was our favourite, but the cave at Gibbston Valley was a cool experience.
Gary our tour guide was fabulous with loads of knowledge about the history of the area and the wines!
      Highly recommend this tour.

Didn't come to this with any expectations as we are not very much into wine but this was a fun and informative afternoon tasting and learning about the wine in this region. Our tour guide, Gary, made it all the more special with his sense of humour, passion and knowledge of the wine and the wineries. We were impressed that he went out of his way to make the tour special even when things happened out of his control. The wineries chosen (Mt Rosa, Gibbston Valley and Kinross) were not only all spectacular but each had their own individual take, making for a very interesting afternoon.

As a Queenstown local it is always interesting seeing local activities through the eyes of visitors. This time around we hosted a cousin from London and had a fantastic day. The variety of people on the group from USA, Australia and the UK made it a fun afternoon and our guide was informative as were the staff at the 3 wineries visited. While you could never taste all of the wines at all of the wineries there was a good variety of wines to taste and to buy if you wanted. We would recommend this trip to anyone visiting Queenstown ( or Queenstown locals) as a great way to spend an afternoon.

The whole experience was fantastic. Our tour guide for the afternoon was Gary, he was extremely knowledgeable on the area, the wine and the history. We visited three amazing wineries in the area, including a Cave Tour at Gibbston Valley. Thoroughly enjoyed all of the wines throughout the day and the cheeseboard at Kinross. Perfect activity for a rainy afternoon.

We were lucky enough to have Gary as our tour guide, He was entertaining and humorous and displayed a very good knowledge of the local wines as well as a good general knowledge of wine making,

Our final stop was Kincross, my personal fave. We got a beautiful cheese platter to share and an excellent tasting. We were impressed that due to the previous tasting running over schedule, Gary took us out to the vines and gave a short but very informative overview of the harvest, vines and how the grapes are grown.

A must do for anyone who likes a wine or two

Wow what a fabulous wine tour. Had Gary the lovely London lad take us for a tour. Super informative and relaxed. Joined a super lovely family from Tauranga who were down for a holiday in Queenstown. We went to Mt Rosa Die wine and cheese, which was a really awesome personable tasting With good wine and cheese, followed by a wine cave tour with paddy at gibbston valley, and finishing with beer wine and chips at Waitiri Creek. Had a blast and can’t recommend Gary and the appellation wine tour crew highly enough.

After tossing up whether to do the hop on hop off bus I am so pleased we chose Appellation Tours instead. Door to door service and Gary our guide was knowledgeable, fun and professional. We were guaranteed seating at all wineries and there was no queuing or waiting around for tastings and cellar tours. Something you need to think about when it’s cold outside! Just so seamless and easy. Beautiful wines and a great afternoon with lots of information and laughs. Thanks Gary!

This was a good way to taste wines from a few vineyards and not have to worry about driving. Some very nice wines, but the trip was made extra good due to our driver Paul. He shared his great knowledge of the vineyards and wineries of the region and it's history. Ask him about panning for gold.
