- NigelHobbs0 contributionsMt Cook MagicWe encountered an amazing weather day at Mt Cook. Guided by Shaun from Altitude Tours and then delivered to the Mt Cook Airport where we were handed over to our pilot Isabel who was a great host and pilot. She gave just the right amount of quality commentary and even guided the plane left and right to give everyone first class views to Mt Cook. Exceptional!Written 9 March 2025
- rjkrek210 contributionsFlying was Peaceful & amazingGlenorchy Air was incredible and helped create a magical trip in south NZ. We loved the Milford Sound trip over the Fiords on our way back to Queenstown. And we also used them to fly To/From Mt Cook. the Glaciers were incredible to see up close and from high above. Would recommend flying for sure. They also helped navigate weather cancellation and rebooking. Michael and James were friendly and informative at the right times. We enjoyed and learned something!Written 9 March 2025
- Michelle D0 contributionsAbsolutely great day!Wow! What an amazing experience!! Joseph "Perky" was our pilot for the day! We had an amazing flight on a beautiful day to Mt. Cook. The views were spectacular and only made better with Perky's constant conversation and info along the way. We did the Glacier Explorer's tour so once on the ground, we were transported to the Hermitage where we joined a group for the glacier boat ride. That experience was also fantastic! Then back to the Hermitage where Perky was waiting to take us on another amazing flight back to Queenstown. This is a must do when in the area!Written 7 March 2025
- AnjutaNes0 contributionsBest scenic flight in NZ!I’ve done a scenic flight with Glenorchy Air to Mount Cook and combined it with heli hike on the glacier. This has certainly been a highlight of my trip. Having done several flights in both south and north island, I will certainly say that this one is by far the most spectacular! Very good service overall, timely pickup, proactive call with confirmation of the flight, nice aircraft etc. Special shout-out to Joseph, our pilot. Skilled professional, gave us a very smooth flight experience, great commentary on the way and been super service minded to accommodate all pick-up and drop-off for heli, hiking, coffee etc. to fit the preferences of the guests. And certainly ran an extra mile to give us the best angles and view points of glaciers, mountain tops, lakes while navigating. Thank you so much for the lovely day! 🤗Written 21 February 2025
- F2312SOandrek0 contributionsIncredible views of fiordland10/10 , we flew back from milford sounds after the cruise to queenstown, absolutely incredible views from the plane as others have said. Big shout out to our pilot Jim, great guy awesome sense of humor. Highly recommend to jump on one of their planes.Written 16 February 2025
- gairscroft0 contributionsFlight of a lifetimeOur planned trip to Milford Sound was cancelled due to a poor weather forecast but the company offered an alternative flight over Frank Josef and Tasman glaciers and to Mt Cook. We stopped at Mt Cook airport and had time to explore the visitors centre. Marvellous experience and Michale the pilot was amazingWritten 8 February 2025
- GAndrsn0 contributionsHelpful staff, unforgettable experience! The flights we took with Glenorchy were the highlight of our 4 week holiday! We were due to do a bus-cruise-fly tour around New Year's, and despite it being sunny, it ended up being too windy and over the crosswind limits of the Glenorchy aircraft we were due to fly back on, so it flight was cancelled and we had to travel back to Queenstown by bus. I emailed Glenorchy, and they let me know there was space on a flight a couple of days later which we were able to take. In fact, we got to fly from Queenstown to Milford Sound with just the two of us and the pilot, and then fly back, getting twice the flight experience we had originally booked. The staff were very quick to respond to emails and very helpful in keeping us informed. The flights themselves were amazing, particularly the leg from Queenstown to Milford Sound, flying close to the glacier-capped mountains. An unforgettable experience!Written 3 February 2025
- stevetE67UV0 contributionsAdventure Back in TimeGreat, scenic, narrated flight with pilot Meagan. Bus tour around quaint Oban + on island roads with Noah was very good & Informative. Boat & nature walk to Ulva to sample flora & fauna was also very well done & guided. Picnic lunch was excellent, but a little rushed.Written 1 February 2025
- Sansom19780 contributionsBucket list materialThis was such an amazing day out. Loved being on a 9 seater plane with only 7 passengers. Even on a full flight, everyone has a window seat. The flight itself was stunning - the views over the mountains, lakes and rivers were breathtaking. Stewart Island itself was beautiful and I can see why it is becoming ever more popular. The boat trip to Ulva Island and the gentle hike once there was another highlight. The guide, Natasha, was amazing. Her passion for the nature and especially bird life was infectious. Excellent value for money and a true must do!Written 25 January 2025
- keerc20220 contributionsWorth itWe took the Glenorchy Air tour from Milford Sound to Queenstown. The process at Milford Sound for organizing visitors taking flights back to Queenstown was a bit chaotic and disorganized. Despite this, we were glad we chose this option. The aerial views of Milford Sound, its waterfalls, and the surrounding mountains were absolutely mesmerizing. Plus, saving three hours on the bus ride was a huge bonus.Written 10 January 2025
- teaser270 contributionsFantastic flight with ConnorWe decided last minute to fly rather than coach back to Queenstown from Milford Sound. What a great decision! It was a beautiful day and our pilot, Connor was a total professional - calm, cool, reassuring and confident. Having seen the mountains from the road and boat, it was breathtaking to see them so close up from above. Connor gave us amazing views of the landscape, lakes and glacier, with great commentary and a super smooth landing. Thanks Connor - a truly memorable trip.Written 6 January 2025
- ralphwY7701LG0 contributionsFabulous flight over Milford SoundExperienced the most beautiful overhead flight to Milford! Even on a slightly cloudy day the views were amazing. Isabel our pilot was great, smooth flying, fantastic landing and had great facts to share along the way! 10/10 would do again, amazing holiday activity.Written 4 January 2025
- Annette H0 contributionsSpectacular views, wonderful PilotIsabel our pilot was a wonderful pilot and guide on our flight to and from Mt Cook. We had time to do the Kea walk have lunch and look at the museum in the time we were at Mt Cook.Written 3 January 2025
- Veecomp0 contributionsWhat an amazing experienceIsabel was an amazing lady ! I sat in the co-pilot’s seat - probably something to do with weight distribution as I am not a lightweight! We had wanted to go to Milford sound but the weather had other ideas so we did a flight over the glacier and saw some fantastic scenery including an ”unknown” lake in the mountains. Stunningly beautiful as was the entire experience! Thank you xWritten 26 December 2024

Can't recommend this experience highly enough - it was worth every penny, a real bucket list experience. The views of the scenery as you fly across the lakes, Alps and coast on your way to and from Milford Sound are simply breathtaking (and you save yourself a really long day of coach travel too). Everything worked seamlessly from the moment the shuttle picked me up outside my a accommodation to the moment I was dropped off again - Glenorchy is a really professional operation.
Our pilot Will was superb - clearly really used to putting nervous flyers at their ease, cracking lots of great Kiwi dad jokes and keeping us informed throughout over the headsets as to what we were seeing below. Every seat is a window seat so every passenger gets to enjoy the unbelievable views. There were only one or two bits of minor turbulence (aka "lumpy custard"!) and even the passengers who had been nervous about flying in such a small plane agreed it was 100% worth it and that they'd felt much safer than they'd expected.
The Milford Sound cruise was also spectacular and a really seamlessly organised operation with excellent commentary from the crew keep ng you informed about the sights around you. We didn't see any dolphin ns but were lucky to see a Fiordland Crested Penguin as well as some fur seals - bring binoculars if you have them!
We got very lucky with the weather for springtime as it as largely sunny and clear with very little wind - the previous day's flights had all been cancelled by all operators due to high winds. Remember the one thing no one can control is the South Island's very changeable weather and try to book a flight with a day or two's buffer time in Queenstown afterwards if you can so that if the weather isn't great on the day you're due to fly you might be able to reschedule for the following day or two rather than taking the coach.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely and detailed review. We are glad you enjoyed Will's humour and commentary.
You were very lucky to see the penguins, they are usually out fishing when the cruises go!
Sometimes you just pick the right day as the weather works out and it can be hard pre planning that as you know. We are thrilled that we did get to fly you and you enjoyed yourself so much

My husband and I had heard that Milford Sound was a must-do for our trip. In planning our itinerary we just could not find the time for the drive out and back, this is where Glenorchy Air came in. Much to our surprise, the flight & cruise to Milford sound was within our budget and timed perfectly with our itinerary! After dropping off our rental car at the airport, their counter was easy to find. Check-in was a breeze and we waited in the "lounge" area for our pilot. We were escorted to our plane, where everyone had a window seat. I was a bit jealous of the person that got to sit up front with the pilot. Turns out our pilot had just completed the Milford Track great walk, and we got to hear his insights on different parts of the park from that perspective. The cruise was with a different company on one of the 3 story ships that take a bunch of people on them. Our pilot went and got our passes for the ship and met us at the dock at the conclusion. We got so lucky that it didn't rain that day, the sun even broke through for a bit! I obviously can't speak to the beauty of the scenery on the drive to/from the Sound, but the views from the flight path to/from were breathtaking. The professionalism and knowledge of everyone we encounter was top notch, and can not recommend taking the flight out to Milford Sound enough

We are so happy that you flew with us. It sounds like it was a fantastic trip for you.
Our flights are great if you don't have the time to get a bus or drive in to Milford and I'm sure you agree that you see more from the air too! We are always happy to share information about the scenery so glad that you enjoyed the anecdotes from the pilot.
Thank you so much for taking time to give us such a glowing recommendation.

My partner and I had the pleasure of flying with the team at Glenorchy Air in late September during our holiday to Queenstown. I had wanted to visit the Milford Sound and take my partner there for her Birthday. This was the fly cruise fly package offered. I purposefully chose to fly with Glenorchy Air given that they operate the youngest and most modern fleet of aircraft. From the time we arrived from Wellington and booked our flight with the reception desk at Queenstown Airport our experience of dealing with the Glenorchy Air team was fantastic. Glenorchy Air have a very friendly and helpful staff and they picked us up from our hotel on the morning of the flight. We were also given an update about the weather by phone that morning during breakfast which we appreciated. Our pilot on the day was a complete professional and we felt totally safe with him during our two flights there and back from Queenstown. Was an extra special treat getting to sit at the very front of the aircraft a Cessna Grand Caravan both ways. Thank you to the staff member who must have arranged this for us. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Glenorchy Air to anyone who was looking to fly to Milford Sound. Simon & Delo

I had the pleasure of flying with Glenorchy Air on the Fly Cruise Fly package, and wow — unquestionably one of the highlights of my holiday in New Zealand. The pilot, Jim, was professional and communicated/pointed out highlights along the way without being over-talkative in the slightest. Everything was seamless, efficient, and user-friendly, from the online reservations process, to the weather check call, to the checkin at the counter on the day of the flight. I had a phenomenal experience and highly recommend booking with Glenorchy Air for a phenomenal flying experience. Shoutout to Jim, Ivan, and the rest of the team!

An accident thwarted our Milford Sound bus-cruise-bus tour (no fault of the company) and so we figured we'd splurge not knowing when next we'd be in New Zealand. We weren't disappointed! From the friendly pick-up near our AirBnB to Flight Officer Megan's excellent flying and commentary, we had a great time. To be able to see three ranges of New Zealand's Southern Alps up close and personal and see the lovely vistas of a beautiful country from above and in Milford Sound itself was a treat. The cruise was almost as breathtaking as the flight, and the skillful skipper got us right near one of the Falls and closer to a mountain-hugging tree than I ever thought was possible for a boat. The flight back was along a different path so we got to see even more. The worst part of the day was when it was all over.

What an amazing, breathtaking, and once in a life time experience! We went with my parents - both parents are elderly and my mum is disabled. The team worked with us so well - from booking time to the day off to ensure mum could comfortably fly and enjoy the trip and the cruise. We have traveled quite a bit throughout NZ, and this was truly an experience my parents have not stopped talking about. Thank you all so much and highly recommend everyone who is able to do it, definitely do it!

Had the most amazing experience with Glenorchy Air, the weather was perfect and pilot Connor was excellent at pointing out all the outstanding mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers we flew over. I especially enjoyed that we flew a different route on the way home, meaning we got to see even more of the beautiful area. The plane seats were comfortable and roomy, and having the planes with only one seat on either side of the aisle meant we all got a window seat! The cruise in Milford sound was also spectacular; clear water, friendly staff and great commentary. There was lots of room on the boat to sit inside, but also on the decks as well.
This was truely a magnificent experience and I’m so thrilled that I chose Glenorchy Air to fly with, definitely would recommend to all.

Glenorchy Air offer an amazing service and experience. I took the scenic flight and explore option to Milford Sound from Queenstown. Amy at the Glenorchy Air desk at Queenstown Airport was superb. She was very welcoming and managed to find me the last seat on a flight to Milford. It was a great deal, which included being picked up and dropped off at my hotel. The pilot Mr Connor Smith was excellent, very professional and attuned to the needs of passengers. He explained everything and adjusted altitude when the flight got bumpy due to the winds which gave us a smoother flight and instantly calmed any passenger fears. Connor gave us a detailed commentary of the many stunning landscapes we passed over. On the whole the scenic flight offers a spectacular perspectives of Fiordland NP which you will not get from the cruise ship or road alone.

We had the most amazing flight from Queenstown to Milford Sound and back. Not only was the mountainous scenery gorgeous, we also had a wonderful pilot named Jim. He was friendly, knowledgeable and skillful. And he took the time to reassure my daughter, who had some anxiety about flying, that we would be safer on a plane then any other form of transportation. We so greatly appreciated the attention he gave to all his passengers on our flight.

Hi,
The aircraft holds 7 passenger seats, if you book on with your friends you will be on the same aircraft if under this amount. In groups larger than 7 you can request who you'd like to sit with and we will do our best to accommodate.
