Milford Sound- Peaceful and Refreshes the Mind
Title: Milford Sound- Peaceful and Refreshes the Mind Milford Sound is a sound in the southwest of New Zealand. The area is known for towering Mitre Peak. In addition there are rainforests and waterfalls like Stirling and Bowen falls. The falls drop down its sheer sides. The water is very tasty. The place is home to seal colonies, penguins and dolphins. Milford Discovery Centre and Underwater Observatory offers views of rare black coral and other marine life. Boat tours are a popular way to explore. Literature mentions that Milford is is rich in flora and fauna, and often referred to as “The Sound of Silence”. The environment is utterly serene and sound is referred to as ‘Doubtful Sound’. Of course I could not hear any sound. The reason I was immersed in enjoying the beauty of nature and thinking about my past life. We started from ‘Hotel Copthorne’, Queenstown, New Zealand in early hours. The bus picked us from hotel front. The journey took about four and half hours to reach place where from we boarded in the cruise. It crossed a tunnel through which vehicles move in one direction only. Fortunately, vehicles were moving in the direction we reached. The tour manager stopped three times declaring washroom break and photo stop. The tour operator Thomas Cook arranged lunch in the cruise. The journey was pleasing. The tour manager made the journey interesting. For information of readers: Air Milford is the only Airline to connect with ‘Doubtful Sound‘ by air from Queenstown. I have attached few photos.

      Disappointing
The trip with was hugely disappointing. The driver knew very little about the area and offered almost no information except for some notes which he read from paper while driving the bus! Any of the limited information shared was shared without passion and in almost a robotic manner. There was no entertainment, fun or information until the boat ride which was handled completely by a third party. This is not the “as advertised” experience and I would stay away from Milford Sound Select for this trip. There are many other operators!

Excellent - All about Paradise & Glenorchy 4WD Expedition 1/2 day trip
We had a wonderful half-day excursion in an awesomely comfortable 4WD vehicle with a very nice, fun and informative driver today (I believe his name is Ewan). He was an excellent and efficient yet safe driver who really knew his way around the roads (including very tight one-lane roads from time to time). He also gave good commentary, stopped at various interesting points, made bio-break stops, offered to take photos for us, etc. I highly recommend this trip aboard an awesome 4WD vehicle that can accommodate 20+ passengers (I think).

Unbelievable picture pefact place in the world.
We were fortunate enough to make our journey to the wonderland of New Zealand. It is once ina life time to witness the avalanche. The bus trip to Milford sound is a unique experience. and the red boad ride in the sound is like topping our experience with Cherry.

      Look no further
Did loads of research before choosing a Milford sound tour and so happy with our choice. It's small group tour giving a personal and informative tour of Milford soun d and the Firordlands. Lots of room on the coach and didn't feel crammed at all. Was worth paying the extra money for that benefit and the glass roof. Much better than a small mini bus like a lot of the other small group tours. Lots of other coach companies looked really crammed and were being heared like cattle. Our guide Sam was outstanding. Provided lots of laughs. Milford sound and journey there was stunning and magical. Lots of stops of the way for picture opportunities. Would highly recommend.

      Great trip great guide
We were picked on time and had a glorious day. Glad we did not choose a trip with lunch. Saved monthly and got to choose great pies in Te Anu at a little pie shop. Cowboy, our guide recommended them and they were delicious. Cowboy was kind, conscientious and very funny and entertaining.

      Best day out
We did the full day trip to Milford Sound and was incredible. The scenery is just mind blowing and to breath air that fresh and drink glacial water was amazing. To top things off we had the best tour guide. Fella called cowboy, so much knowledge it was like having google driving the bus:-) he not only knew his stuff but he knew how to be a great host, polite, funny, entertaining and humble. A credit to the company. Top marks. :-)

      Great day !
We did the Milford sound day tour with boat cruise . Lots of tours to choose from but we are so glad to have gone with this one. We had a great driver whose name was Cowboy ! What a character he was and he did his best to take care of everyone for the whole 13 hours we were with him. He was a great driver and his constant commentary , wealth of knowledge of New Zealand history, facts and figures , places to see and things to do , and where to save obey was very helpful and we learned a lot. He treated us all very well . The bus ride was long but scenery was breath taking . Lots of stops and photo opportunities. Big comfortable half empty bus made the trip so much better as a lot of the other buses were packed to the brim. We chose to pack our lunch but also had opportunity to purchase snacks along the way. Highly recommended

      Super friendly, experienced tour operator
My wife and I took the all-day tour of Milford Sound from Queenstown. I liked the following: 1) Cowboy, our tour guide and bus driver, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about all aspects of New Zealand tourism and Maori culture. 2) The Steel Horse (our bus) was relatively new and quite comfortable. 3) Both my wife and I could enjoy the sights completely and not have to worry about driving on some fairly narrow, winding roads to and from Milford Sound. The only thing that I wish could be better about the tour is having a sunny day rather than the clouds and rain that we experienced. Cowboy explained to us that 80% to 90% of the time, the weather in Milford Sound is rainy and that the benefit is more waterfalls appear.

      Amazing Tour of Milford Sound
My husband and I had an awesome experience with this group. Our tour guide “Cowboy” was so incredibly awesome to say the least, he kept us laughing and engaged throughout the whole trip. The buses were clean and comfy, ample amount of rest stop breaks along with lunch. Learned a ton throughout the whole tour and the boat cruise at Milford was amazing. Highly recommend using this company for your Milford Sound trip!

A nice half day bus tour to Milford Sound.
Though it took 12 hours it was a wonderful bus tour to Milford Sound. The coach was comfortable and the ride was excellent with a nice guide and good driving. One thing which I regretted was THE SMELL from TOILET. Please try to find out to solve this matter then it's SUPER.

      Gorgeous sights
I agree with other reviewers that this trip makes for a long day, but we felt it was worth it. The bus ride is scenic and you can sleep on the way back. The alternative is to fly back, which is very expensive and the flights only operate on clear days. We were lucky to have no rain on the day of our trip, which was lucky because it had been raining the previous week. The boat that this company uses was also very nice, and the scenery from the boat is not to be missed. Other groups were on the boat as well, but it was not crowded. There are tables on the boat so it was convenient for eating the lunches that we brought. The bus arrived right on time at the I-Site and we got a seat in front because that was the first stop. Although the drive is windy and I sometimes get carsick, this one was fine with one Bonine. The driver, Jamie was knowledgeable and provided commentary during the bus ride. I could have done with one less photo stop, but not a big deal. He also managed the bathroom stops so that there were not many other people stopping at the same time.

Amazing trip to be highly recommended
Although this was a very long day it was truly worth it. Jamie was a very knowledgeable driver who stopped on the way to Milford Sound at some beautiful places including stopping to take a drink from a lovely clear glacial stream. The cruise on the Sound itself was breathtaking - photos cannot do it justice. We even saw fur seals sunbathing on a large rock. Would highly recommend. We booked through Viator in the UK.

Made a booking via Milford Sound Select for their one day tour. Once fully paid we were sent an email to advise look out for southern discoveries however this was not communicated prior to paying.

Was picked up 15 mins ahead of schedule at 0645 however then proceeded to Frankton and sat for 35 minutes waiting for passengers.

The tour felt very rushed and the 2 hour cruise ended up being 90 mins. (1320-1450)
The southern discovery coach was very hot with no curtains like seen on other coaches also on the same day out.

On our return we arrived Frankton at 1900 and sat there for 45 mins waiting for taxis to collect some passengers. The website of Milford Sound Select advises your returns at 7pm which we had plans for 7:30pm and have now missed.

    Would not recommend.

Our booking was HY6JWV March 13th (2 pax). Bus left our hotel earlier than the stipulated time (written in the contract)
We had to incur NZD 500 expense to meet our bus

    No replies to our emails.

Milford Sound is amazing but we almost missed it due to above stated service failure.
Had we not taken a taxi we would have lost the entire payment.

We were booked on Milford Sound Coach to go to the Milford Sounds. We got a phone call the day before we left to say we were being upgraded and will be travelling with Southern Coachline instead. We were not upgraded! We were all put together on the one coach completely full. A lot of us couldn't sit together as couples. My husband and I were squashed on the back seat of the bus in the middle. We decided to fly back because of the uncomfortable ride. I recommend lining up early to get a seat together.

Caught the bus to Milford Sound via Te Anau. The driver was only 22 and the youngest bus driver in NZ. Had a great banter. Beautiful landscape. Loved the cheeky Keas. Mirror Lake was stunning too.

Beautiful weather for our Southern Discoveries Coach from Queenstown and Cruise, with Air Milford return flight. Literally not a cloud in the sky with flight over Southern Alps almost as awesome as Cruise on Milford Sound which is truly the eight wonder of the world. Both coach driver and pilot were very informative.

The trip through the national park was great as was the cruise! And driver did a very good job with the winding roads. I thought some of the stops were unnecessary however... it might have been prettier had it been a sunnier day though so take that into account. Coach was large and has a bathroom and very comfortable.

Milford Sound, of course, was wonderful. The service provided by this company, however, was not. I paid more than I would have done with other companies for the experience of a 'luxury, glass-roofed bus with panoramic views' and a free pick up from outside where I was staying in Queenstown. I got neither of these. I went outside my hostel early so that the bus would see me and pick me up and in the end I waited about an hour in the freezing cold before someone came along and told me I was waiting in the wrong place (I just got told that I would be picked up outside the hostel, which is where I was waiting!). When this guy drove me to where the bus was waiting with the rest of the passengers, the driver tried to joke that I had 'slept in' which is why I was late, which was very embarrassing obviously - I was quick to tell him that I had not been made aware that I had to go somewhere else to be picked up. I did not believe the bus I stepped onto. No glass roof, no luxury seats etc. Nothing. It was an absolutely average bus, below-standard in terms of cleanliness and comfort. You could barely see out of the dirty windows. I was not the only unimpressed passenger who had expected something a little more for their money. It was soon explained that this trip was running in conjunction with the Naked Bus trip (if I'd have known I would have paid the lower price and gone with Naked bus, from whom I have had very good and efficient service, including actually being picked up from the prescribed place). The cruise when we got to Milford Sound was okay, and Milford Sound itself obviously incredible. As I arrived in Queenstown late the night before my trip, I had ordered the food on this trip - definitely not worth it. My advice: bring lots of warm clothes, force your way to the front of the crowds to get a good view on the top of the boat, don't pay extra for food and don't go with Milford Sound Select - a complete waste of money.

Driver forced our family of 4 to sit in the very back of the bus in separate rows...despite the fact that there were many open seats.

When we asked why we couldn't sit in the open seats which were adjacent, he said "those are not for people."

Then we stop at the next hotel and lo and behold "people" get on and fill those same seats.

Driver refuses to hear us out when we ask him for an explanation and instead responds by jerking us around and dropping us off 1 km past where he picked us up.

If you are of Asian descent, beware as you may find yourself in a bizarro Rosa Parks parody.
