What an unforgettable, amazing experience. Our flight to and from the sound was mind-blowing and beautiful. An absolutely incredible scenic flight which our pilot, Katie, navigated so smoothly and with great commentary. We were within an arms reach of mountain peaks and glaciers. The flight into the Sound was an absolute highlight and will be one of the most unique flying experiences you’ll ever have. We were guided to the cruise with Mitre Peak Cruises directly from the airfield and the cruise itself was a good two-hour journey through the Sound, with free tea and coffee on board. It was a full boat after a week of bad weather and cancellations but everyone had a spot to get a good view most of the time. Our return flight with Katie was awesome again, and we took a different route to get a beautiful view over Lake Te Anau and Wakatipu. Completely worth doing the fly/cruise/fly if you can as we were back just after 2pm which meant we had time to go out for a nice glass of wine in the Gibbston Valley!

Awesome flight and cruise
The pilot Elliot was brilliant, very knowledgeable about the surroundings and a great sense of humour.
The cruise was mind blowing with seals sunbathing and dolphins putting on a fantastic show.
All the staff from pick up to drop off were amazing

Milford Sound Scenic Flights and Mitre Peak Cruises
One item of the bucket list ticked off! I thought I knew my country, this experience showed me I'd only scratched the surface!! I can't say enough great things about our experience or the staff. I feel I wouldn't do it/them justice - but I'll give it a try.
An amazing experience we will remember forever! We came in the Spring/Summer season and it was stunning, we've vowed to come back in Winter where I'm sure it will be even more so. Definitely something not to be missed! Some people come to Milford Sound by bus which I'm sure is great, but flying to and from Milford.... absolutely magical. Awesome, friendly staff that know their stuff and know how to give people a great time. From the flight to the cruise, these guys are a well oiled machine who take this experience to the next level!
Can't wait to come back and experience this all over again!

When we first arrived at the airport we were told that the flight was canceled because Milford Sound was socked in with clouds and we would not be able to see the mountains from the Sound. A half hour later we were told the clouds had lifted and we would be on our way flying to the Milford Sound in a 14 passenger airplane. Katie was our pilot and it was wonderful. From Queenstown to Milford Sound flying over the mountains and all the scenery that we saw was just spectacular. When we landed at the Milford Sound we boarded a boat and went through the Sound and headed out into the Tasman Sea. The captain and his co-employee on the boat were very nice, friendly and informative. Milford Sound is just beautiful. The last picture you can see red snow, that is from the fires in Australia. We were so lucky to experience both the airplane and boat tour they are well worth the money.

A great experience from start to finish. Pilot Andy looked after us extremely well, the flights were stunning - above the clouds for about half of the first flight, so beautiful, and the commentary both ways was informative. Cruise was excellent. We really enjoyed this trip and would recommend it to anyone. Well done, team, and thank you.

An absolutely outstanding experience! All staff including aircraft, check in and cruise staff treated us exceptionally well. As others have noted, flights can be cancelled due to weather, so make sure you book yours for earlier in your trip, so there is time for you to reschedule to another day if needed. Our first booking was cancelled due to weather but we were able to easily rebook for another day, such turned out to be postcard perfect. This is a 'pinch yourself' kind of experience, highly recommended!

We had been waiting to visit Milford Sound for 5 yrs, as we missed out on a previous trip to NZ. We were due to go on Tuesday but the weather was not suitable, the front office staff were so helpful in rebooking us to another day, which turned out to be perfect.
Everything was very professional, safety was paramount,clear instructions were given, everything explained and then we were away. Wow every moment was memorable, so many photos from the plane, the pilot Katy, was relaxed, funny and extremely competent. Never felt anxious at all in the small plane.
On arrival to Milford we were transferred to a waiting bus to join our cruise. Everything was well planned.
The cruise itself was breathtaking, to be in the Sound after all the waiting was worth it. Simply beautiful, peaceful and iconic.
My only criticism of the cruse was the basic refreshments, tea bags, coffee was instant, no bickies or snacks available. The refreshment side of things needs to be improved, put in a pay as you go decent coffee machine and snack machine.
Once returned to port we were again transferred by bus to our plane. A wonderful flight back via a different route and before we knew it we were returned safely to Queenstown Airport.
Well worth the cost, everyone was very friendly, professional and the trip did not disappoint. Thank you very much

This was an amazing experience! Well worth the money. The Pilot, Elliot, was so informative telling us everything as we flew over the Alps. Then the criuse round Milford Sound was breathtaking. The Captain of the Ferry made so much effort to make the experience even better. He knew his stuff. The other staff were fantastic and friendly and also knew their stuff. The flight back was as amazing and again Elliot knows his stuff. Great Pilot and great host.
This was a Bucket List day that I will never forget. Seeing the dolphins swimming alongside the boat was beyond words.
Seriously, words do not highlight what an amazing day this was. The photo opportunities were out of this world.
I cannot recommend this highly enough. If you do one thing here it is this trip.

Wow! What a great experience! We had originally booked for December 2, but a few days before the weather said 90% chance of rain but December 1 looked really good. We were lucky that they still had available seats to change our booking because we ended up going on an absolutely beautiful day. Fiordland National Park is such a huge and remote area that is not easily navigable or viewable by land. We did the fly/cruise/fly package and were able to see it (not all of course) from the sky as well as from ground level in the cruise. It's definitely the way to go, and it saved us probably 5-6 hours of driving as we originally planned to go there driving from Te Anau.
Our flight took us from Queenstown over the Wakatipu river and through/over the mountains to land at Milford Sound. There were many beautiful sights to see along the way from snowcapped peaks to beautiful valleys. Our pilot was also our tour guide, narrating the things that we passed, and we could clearly hear him through our headphones. The windows of the plane are large and clean, so we were able to get a lot of great pictures.
The Mitre Peak Cruises boat had 2 levels, and you could choose to stay inside, protected from the wind and or water spray, or you could go out on deck to take pictures. We took Milford Sound all the way out to the Tasman Sea and back. We stopped by a couple of beautiful waterfalls, including the 2nd tallest in Fiordland Park, 146m, almost 3x taller than Niagara Falls. Our boat got very close so you could look up into the falls if you were brave enough to be out with the water spray.
Overall, we couldn't recommend this tour more. In retrospect, we'd have skipped the stop at Te Anau entirely since we ended up seeing Milford Sound through this tour.

We booked this tour after our original bus tour got canceled. It really worked out for the better. We throughly enjoyed the plane views. It was a beautiful day in the sky. We felt very safe as they take all the precautions to make sure it is safe to fly. We later found out the tour after ours had been canceled due to weather. We appreciated getting picked up right from our stay. My husband got a nice break from driving that day. The Milford Sound views from the boat were nice. It wasn't a clear day at Milford but they did a nice job of making sure to turn the boat when there was a waterfall so everyone could enjoy the views. We did not feel it was over crowded and you can walk around and change viewing spots. So glad we did this tour versus the bus tour as the plane views were our favorite part. Definitely recommend.

How long is the flying time from Queenstown to Milford Sound

We will be spending 2 days in Queenstown. The first day follows more than 24 hours of travel from the US. On the one hand, we would like a day of relaxation before doing the fly/cruise/fly to Milford Sound. But we would not want potential bad weather on our second day to make us miss out on it, i.e., if day one was canceled, we might still have a chance on the second day. So I guess it comes down to how frequent weather cancellations are. Any suggestions?

Hi, I will be traveling with a 11 month infant. If I book her as an infant, will I be able to carry a stroller on the flight? If I book as a child, will she get her own seat on the flight, and can she fly in a carseat? Also, can I take a stroller on the flight?

Hi. We are a group of 5 and would like to do this tour in October. However, we like to spend a little time in Milford Sounds, have lunch, look around, etc before heading back to Queenstown. How much time do we get in Milford Sounds after the boat cruise? Can we opt for a later departure please? Thank you. Sharm

Hi Sharon, we weren’t able to elect for a later departure for our booking. Might be worth liaising directly with the company. There was no time for us to stay and explore for lunch. We arrived 15 min before the boat departed and left 15 min after the boat arrived back.
