      Awesome Overnight!
Lovely experience. Awesome crew, beautiful scenery, and fun kayaking off the boat. A great experience and certainly worth the time! Like a lot of things in New Zealand, it really is as gorgeous as it appears in photos!

      Fantastic!!!
This was amazing! The scenic boat trip, followed by a beautiful casual horse ride, taking in the views, stopping to take some pic’s & videos along the way. The horses are beautiful and the guides (Benny & Kody) were so caring & accommodating to everyone! Such a great experience & a holiday highlight for us.

      Excellent Transportation
Our return to the South Island was smooth as glass and fast. We enjoyed watching a variety of birds fly and bob along. We highly recommend this mode of transportation.

      Excellent Transportation with Exceptional Views
This was an excellent part of our adventure. It took one hour to arrive on Stewart Island. We enjoyed seeing wildlife, and time flew by. Parking in a secure car park is available (don’t park across the street from the terminal).

Not enough superlatives! Do it if you can!
I experienced this overnight cruise in (NZ) summer with my adult daughter on the smaller boat which had 32 guests aboard and I echo all the positives shared here. The boat is well appointed, spotless and comfortable whether en suite or not (we selected shared bathrooms which were kept very clean throughout and it's only one night!). The crew are really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, giving information and commentary on the voyage (and taking videos and photos for us), the food is plentiful and of a very high standard and hot and cold drinks are constantly available. I strongly disagree with those who feel that the weather needs to be good! We had the most atrocious conditions in this very wet part of New Zealand, persistent heavy rain and low cloud, but this created the most spectacular waterfalls and mists for us, and created a fabulous, eerie atmosphere. A quick swim in the fjord in the pouring rain, followed by a hearty supper, was an incredible experience too ( those who kayaked in the rain were invigorated by their experience too). Just do make sure you have the right clothing i.e. layers and a good waterproof jacket and embrace whatever weather you get! This cruise isn't about 'dressing for dinner'! The cloud often lifts in the early morning so be prepared to get up early, wrap up warm, take a hot drink on deck to soak up the wonder and potential of our planet. Magic! I had previously taken a day cruise on Milford Sound and that is a different experience. Many more people and boats and just as likely to be wet weather, but if you have limited time then that's a wonderful taste of the fjords. However, if you have the time and can afford the (I think reasonable) fare then the journey to Doubtful Sound (a boat across Lake Manapouri and an entertaining bus ride to your boat) adds to the experience of a fjord without other craft and minimal people. I highly recommended it as a truly memorable experience.

      Fun evening!
We booked this during a free day in Queenstown. The boat ride was charming. The buildings and gardens were just beautiful. The dinner was quite good. The farm show after dinner was great. Got to watch a dog working the sheep. Impressive!

      Great location, food, experience.
I've done this dinner a few times now. Whenever I bring friends to Queenstown this is on the list. It's a great experience. The journey across the lake on the Earnslaw is beautiful. Walter peak station is really well kept and the food is so plentiful and delicious! Shout out to Elia, who was our server for the evening. All the team are great, Elia was extra awesome. Thanks for helping us have a fun evening.

Wonderful experience and one of the highlights of our trip
We absolutely loved the gourmet BBQ dinner cruise to Walter Peak Station on the TSS Earnslaw. The food was divine and the sheep dog and shearing show was a great added bonus. The Earnslaw has a wonderful history and is maintained in fantastic order. We highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Queenstown - you will not be disappointed.

      Magical trip!
Our cruise around Doubtful Sound was awesome. We all met at the Manapouri Marina and were taken across the lake on a Real NZ boat for 45 minutes across the lake to the drop off point next to the ‘underground’ hydro electric power station Great commentary on the flora, fauna and geology of the lake and its surrounding hills and mountains. We then had a coach trip expertly driven and commentated by Tony over the Wilmot pass to the Deep Water jetty. There were a couple of stops to admire the amazing views. The boat is lovely. We had a small cabin with twin beds and an en-suite shower room which was perfect for an overnight stay. We were well looked after by Captain Brett, nature host Brock, the boat manager, Megan and her team. Excellent food and a well stocked bar. The cruise was fantastic helped, no doubt, by glorious sunshine and calm seas. No whales or dolphins for us but seals on the Tasman sea. The kayaking was fun (make sure you put insect repellant on) and some people swam. The morning started early but included 10 minutes of silence where everything was turned off and we all appreciated the waterfalls and birds. Different to Milford Sound but more ‘magical’’ in our view. Back the same way to Manapouri. A great 24 hours.

A good taste of horse riding
If you have never experienced horse riding before, the tour offers a wonderful introduction. You'll have the opportunity to leisurely ride a horse through the farm, gradually ascending a small mountain and enjoying the breathtaking view. The only downside is that if you're assigned a late time slot for the ride, you might not have enough time to explore the farm on foot.

      A Queenstown Experience
The boat ride on the steam ship to Walter Peak farm is a great way to begin your evening. The Walter Peak staff are very friendly and helpful. They are also well organised. The food was fantastic, a buffet of wood roasted meats with delicious salads and vegetables. The after dinner farm demonstration was great to watch. A must do if you are in Queenstown.

      Great new experience.
This was an exciting new experience to do over at Walter Peak. It was just a small group of being shown around which was was great as it allowed us to all ask questions, the guides Sonya and Ashley were so knowledgeable and made the experience. Planting a tree, trying the fresh vegetables/fruit straight from the new garden and enjoying the afternoon tea after, all of it was good fun for all ages too, would definitely recommend.

Great outing with only 1 complaint, but an important one.
Excellent customer service & very well ran especially the sheep shearing portion. My only complaint & the reason why I couldn't give a 5/5 is because they kept running out of food. Our section of tables were the last to be able to go up. I’m not disgruntled about that. We had an amazing view and just enjoyed it while we waited. The issue: The salad & vegetable bar was completely ravaged thru & mostly empty for us last 30 people. We paid just as much as everyone else but we all felt like second class citizens. We were standing at the buffet for long period of time waiting for them to refill everything. Meanwhile this cut into our eating time because the sheep shearing show was after that. I don't like to complain & I am only doing this so that it won't happen in the future for others. I'm sure we weren't the first. Perhaps hire more people?? The meat was mostly gone as well, not quite as bad, but still it shouldn't happen at all because they do this meal at least 2 times a day & everyday of the week. Outside of this... (so when food was refilled), it was absolutely delicious. The sheep shearing show was really cool and informative as well!

      Short of our expectations.
We returned to Doubtful Sound many years after a day cruise in sunny weather, to discover how lucky we had been. This time for the overnight cruise we had the typical wet weather, with poor visibility on the opening afternoon. Fortunately it was clearer in the morning, for a short experience of this stunning place with waterfalls gushing. Perhaps the standard of the vessel is getting a bit dated, and the food rated as good rather than excellent, and wines weren’t included, so it seemed a bit on the expensive side.

      Two hour cruise at Queenstown.
A good half day trip although we were unaware of the lunch and dinner option ashore. The scenery is stunning of course and the cruise is very popular so pre book!

TSS Earnslaw was a treat for a lovely ride on the lake. The boat holds a lot of people who are doing various tours. Piano player was a nice touch. Once at the resort, the patio was a bit warm in the sun but too beautiful to sit inside! They have tables of various sizes and you aren’t stuck at a long table with strangers. The manager comes around and invites tables up to the buffet, which we thought was a great idea until we were invited at almost the very end. The line was very long inside and we watched numerous people coming in for seconds and dessert before we even reached the first section. There was NOTHING left at the appetizer/salad station and it was never replenished. They did replenish the hot station and meat stations and what we ate was tasty. The dessert was delicious as well but only halfway thru they were ushering us to go to the show. No waitress in site and no way to pay the bill, we had to leave our half eaten desserts to head across the property to the sheep shearing show. We figured we must have time to come back and settle our tab and visit the gift shop after the show. WRONG…. Our waitress did arrive to the amphitheater and we were able to settle our tab. The sheep shearing show started great and was informative, until the man who was shearing the sheep cut the sheep and suddenly there was a large amount of blood all over the sheep and the man’s hands. He assured us it looked much worse than it was and he kept going. This was horrifying and several people abruptly left. When he was done, he rendered no aid to the sheep and put him back in the enclosed pen. He then demonstrated the dog herding portion of the show. We were told to head back to the boat as it was ready to leave. I thought, finally, he’ll care for the hurt sheep. But instead we saw him coming to the dock and working on the loading bridge of the boat. I’m truly saddened thinking about the injured sheep and between that and the disorganization of the buffet, I simply can’t recommend this activity.

Not sure why we never did this when we were last here but we are glad we did this time around. For nzd 129 pp, it was a good three plus hour activity which was well run from the smooth boarding just before 12 pm and the service at the restaurant . Food was good and plentiful and the kids were catered for with lollies as well . Views stunning and sheep dog demo a lovely end to the activity before boarding at 3 pm for trip back . Would have probably liked another hour to wonder around and see the animals though . Great activity for all ages

I didn’t really want to go to a ‘farm’ and I didn’t really know what to expect so was a bit a bit grumbly prior to the experience however I changed my tune quickly. The trip on the Earnslaw was fun with stunning views and the homestead, grounds and location was a sight to arrive to. The buffet was so delicious and it was so well managed for the volume of people there eating all at once, the food was very enjoyable and plentiful. We had SOPHIA tending to our table and she was an outstanding host, really responsive, fun and personable, she was very in tune with our table and what I could see the other tables she was tending. She made our experience even more enjoyable.

We loved our experience, a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. The Earnslaw cruise was informative and it was fun being able to move around the boat. There were a lot of people on board, and as always some didn’t want to heed the H&S instructions but we thought it was great that anyone seen doing anything hazardous was pulled up on it immediately.
The BBQ lunch was sensational, we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to be able to go back for more - particularly the amazing tender meats. To be honest words don’t do the meal justice.
We had a little time to wander around the farm near the wharf after watching a presentation on sheep dogs. Great presenter (and dog), but it did go on a little long.
Loved seeing the Highland cattle up close - what a beautiful beast!
Only reason I marked it down is that I feel that at full price, it is overpriced. We managed to get a discount, and while I would have paid more than we did, I would be reluctant to pay full price.

Was definitely a tick off on the Queenstiwn bucket list. Glad we did it.Had a reasonable fine day on the Lake and the gentle steam out to Walter Peak farm for lunch. Excellent BBq lunch it was, great buffet selection and all very tasty. Even had a shelf full of jars of classic kiwi lollies. Great setting with wonderful views over Lake Wakitipu whilst feasting on their own bred lamb , yum and all in peace and quiet. Enjoyed the dog mustering show as well after lunch. We both enjoyed the trip, and would definitely recommend , even the boat trip on the grand old steamship TSS Earnslw was worth it. Recommend

As a group we did this lovely day out last year and again this year.
12 of us sailed up the lake, sat on the terrace in beautiful weather and had a delicious lunch. The service was good, the food great and the scenery superb.

We are so lucky to live in this beautiful area.

Thank you Real Journeys for giving locals a discount, its really appreciated.
Look forward to doing this again next year.

Devine lunch the meat so tender it melted in your mouth. The setting was picture book and the shearing and dog sheep rounding nothing less than truly admirable. Would certainly recommend....would love to have also done the farm tour too...next time.

A wonderful tour for all ages, best to be done on a lovely day. We have been lucky most of the times we have been on the tour.
Always lovely to go on the old lady Earnslaw. She keeps everyone entertained, beautiful views along the way, a lady playing in the piano, food and drink served on board.
About 45 mins before you disembark at Walter Peak. Lunch there is well run, delicious perfectly cooked bbq beef, roast pork, free range chicken and bbq homemade sausage, lots of roasted vegetables and salads to choose from, also a selection of dessert followed by tea and coffee. Wines and beers are also available on request.
After lunch, go for a walk around the Walter Peak grounds, the hobby farmland is a short walking distance away. We saw donkeys, two little piglets, alpacas, Scottish highland cattles, working dogs, sheeps, goats, deer. Then it was time to board the Earnslaw back to Queenstown. What a wonderful relaxing afternoon. It was about a four hour tour.

Very well organised and high quality trip.
The boat is cute and iconic as born in 1906. Piano played all the way … bar open and drinks a little pricey but you only need one for the journey… about 40 mins to the Homestead …beautiful views all the way especially if it’s sunny!
On arrival the team on shore welcome you with a wave. On arrival slick check in to your appointed table. Drinks then ordered by iPad and come quickly. All inside and you can see the open kitchen and bbq. Plates of fabulous meats layed out on stone boards.
You are told when to go and eat . There is plenty so no need to rush. Worth going to the starter island for fresh salmon prawns mussels etc .
Then go round the meats and beautiful veg or salads. You can go up again if you have room. Then there is a cheese island and to die for dessert island … absolutely stunning ! All food absolutely beautifully cooked and presented. We were stuffed !
Next a wander in the pretty gardens right by the lake .. you can take your drinks and then onto the farm show in a fabulous amphitheater. Host brilliant and you see a lamb sheared and then gorgeous sheep dog guides sheep from the hills down. Lovely gift shop and then back on boat and back at 9pm - great value quality and service. Worth every dollar.

Beautiful old steam boat which my husband was fascinated with watching the workings of the engine through the open viewing area. The 45min trip to Walter farm was great and the scenery superb there is a bar and cafe on board which we didnt make use of as we were saving ourselves for the buffet lunch. We had heard from family members how great this buffet was and we certainly weren't disappointed, The meats were amazing so tender and tasty. All the side dishes were delicious and the deserts were yum. So glad we did this to celebrate my 50th birthday. Made it one to remember
