Dont hesitate or you will miss out on an incredible, memorable and perhaps a one in the lifetime opportunity-
An incredible, unforgettable experience . The pick up went smoothly , the small mimi coach was very comfortable and spacious . Our outbound journey had the right amount if stops , photos, toilet and excellent cafe . Our guide Amy was fabulous , very personable , passionate and her enthusiasm is contagious. the cruise was simply sensational. Perfect length in a breathtaking area , mountains , waterfalls , dolphins , glaciers and seals . Excellent crew that were very informative. Finally the flight back simply made an amazing day even more so as the plane guided through mountains, glaciers and over beautiful rivers - it was magical

          Milford Sounds
My first time in NZ and my family organised this trip to South Island with the visit to Milford Sounds. Amy was our driver and tour guide. What an amazing person stopping and showing us some sites along the way with giving some information about the area. Extremely helpful and natural person. Thank you Amy

A must do trip with a great informative driver
Bus trip was entertaining with Shelley, local history, funny stories, stops at point of interest or beauty. The small bus was much better than a large coach as you could stop at areas not accessible by a large coach. The boat trip was great with commentary, saw some seals. We decided on the day to take the scenic flight back wich shelley organised for us. The flight was excellent but I definitely think driving in and flying back is the best way to do it. You'd miss so much if you flew both directions. Would definitely recommend Altitude Tours and Air Milford

          Fantastic day Bucket List item
What a great day a definite bucket list item. We booked through Discover New Zealand who recommended the return by plane. We had a great time on all 3 elements of the trip. GT our coach driver made the journey down interesting and enjoyable. The boat ride was super with a close up of the waterfall a highlight and then a fantastic flight back to Queenstown. Well worth the extra for a once in a lifetime trip.

Jono made the Milford Sounds epic!
I was nervous/sceptical that I’d spent a little more for this tour than the others. However after being with Jono our tour guide for only five minutes I knew it was worth it. It was a wonderful day with a small group of others with an absolutely fantastic tour guide Jono who gave us so much information and time. It was amazing how much knowledge he had, he clearly loved the culture, nature, views, animals and country. We stopped at some great spots which the big buses can’t and the cruise was fantastic. A slightly smaller, more comfortable boat that was able to get in close to so many areas in the Milford Sound that the big boats can’t. I would honestly not have changed a thing. It was worth it and I’d go on any tour Jono was leading, a gem that every tourist company would hope to have!!!

          Well worth the experience!
A lovely friendly 0630 greeting from Chelsea at the meeting point in town. Her journey across to Milford Sound was so informative & a comfortable ride. Chelsea was great with her ‘chat’ telling us all about the area we were in & its environment. It was very clear that she is passionate about what she does. The cruise on the Sound was very good & again, informative. Fortunately the weather behaved giving stunning views all day. Our flight back with Captain Ben was very smooth & the perfect way to top off a great day.

          Fantastic experience
What a fantastic trip. This was the highlight of our trip to NZ. The plane ride back is fantastic and well worth the extra to do this once in a lifetime experience. The driver was also super knowledgeable giving us fantastic stops and taking our pictures. We also had a great crew on the boat tour taking us up close to the waterfalls and providing tea and coffee.

Bucket list tour of Milford Sound
Highly recommend this tour. We had lots of stops on the way from Queenstown to Milford Sound for photo opportunities. Our guide, Erik, was entertaining and informative, and passionate about New Zealand's native fauna & flora. Transfers to and from the boat were very easy. Don't worry about where you grab a seat, everyone was moving around to grab the best photos as we toured up and back Milford Sound. On the day of the tour, I opted to add-on the scenic flight for the return to Queenstown rather than take the van back. Unbelievably cool and made what would otherwise have been a very long day even more enjoyable.

Simply fantastic. Flight was better than the cruise which was also amazing but the two together is an unbelievable day out. Well worth the cost. Our pilot Ben was super knowledgeable. A fantastic day out

          A Bucket list must do!
The professional jumpers were excellent caretakers of their crafts. They were quick to ease the fears of first time jumpers with calm voices and explicit instructions. They matched jumpee with the jumpers perfectly. This 64 yr old bucket list jumper was impressed with the safety checks and re-checks. The video was worth every cent as was the experience. A MUUSSTT DO!!

          Good Job
Very well done nearly new 16 seat MB Sprinter van driven by “Do”. On time a good descriptive drive down with some local/ historical information. Great stops one of which was not visited by any other groups while we were there. Felt safe and well taken care of with Altitude.

          Brilliant Milford Excursion.
A brilliant tour where all the parts went together seamlessly. Our driver Nev made the trip down come alive with the benefit of his knowledge and good humour, the fjord cruise was excellent and the flight back just capped off a brilliant excursion. Well done Altitude Tour's. Highly recommended.

Amazing experience. Not to be missed
It was a spectacular day. It is a must do when visiting Queensland. The coach tour is long but our guide, Shelley, made it great fun with lots of interaction and plenty of comfort and scenic stops. She gave us an insight into how the area has developed and her local knowledge was invaluable. The boat tide through The Sound gave us great views of the mountains and the flight back is unmissable. The weather was perfect which just added to a perfeft day. A day we will long remember.

I suffered a broken foot a few weeks ago and was hesitant to join the Milford Sound tour on crutches since all my friends had gone hiking and left me in Queenstown. However, this tour ended up being the highlight of my New Zealand trip.

Firstly, my tour guide and driver, Amy, was incredibly friendly and accommodating of my injury, keeping us entertained with a constant stream of conversation and fun facts about the area during the ~4-hour drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound. I thoroughly enjoyed her presence as our guide and truly appreciated the consideration given to my situation and limitations. Amy was also a very safe driver despite the gnarly switchbacks and winding roads—I never felt tense or uneasy. I would gladly take this tour again just to have her as the guide.

As for the drive and cruise, the last 1.5 hours of driving were incredibly scenic, setting the stage for what to expect at Milford. We stopped a few times at rest areas with stunning views, and I never felt rushed or placed in any unsafe situations. The cruise itself was spectacular. When we arrived at the terminal around 1:30 PM, the dock wasn’t too busy. The boat we boarded was smaller than some of the others, so I recommend securing a good seat either at the rear or on the top deck. If you choose the front, be prepared to get splashed—bring a poncho or waterproof jacket! The cruise lasted about 1.5 hours, and I took tons of photos along the way. Milford Sound was breathtaking, and no picture I took on my digital camera could truly do it justice—you have to see it in person!

I have nothing but positive things to say about this trip. I was super impressed with the service Altitude Tours provided and would 100% recommend it to any travelers—especially solo travelers, as you meet so many people from around the world in the same van!

When it comes to Milford Sound, we were debating whether to self-drive or join a tour. And, if to join tour, how big of the size and what kind of transportation. We finally decided to join a small group tour operated by the award-winning Altitude Tours. Honestly, I think we made the right decision for us. Because it was our first time in New Zealand, we were not familiar with the road conditions nor the “actual” amount of time to do a round-trip within a day. Our tour guide navigated the landscape with ease (p.s., the road was quite winding in the beginning from Queenstown) and speed, while keeping us comfortable in a Mercedes minivan. She even made a coffee stop for us, which was not in the schedule. Before the boat ride, our tour guide gave us very good introductions of the surroundings, environments, histories throughout the trip. We also got the chance to know our fellow travelers, making the whole experience more memorable and personal. I’d recommend this tour to anyone wishing to enjoy Milford Sound in 1-day and also get more personalized experience.

Had an absolutely delightful day yesterday on an excursion from Queenstown to Milford sound. Travelled with a company called Altitude Tours who run small group tours out of Queenstown. This service was excellent. It was comfortable, timely and informative. Our host for this trip was Shelly and she was efficient, and with a great sense of humour. Her knowledge of the area was excellent, apparently having grown up in the area. Her grandfather was a pioneering overseer on the Milford Road and her dad travelled it regularly. She engaged us and had us all engaged in the group. She needed to, and was able to, organise a number of last minute flights out of Milford Sound for some of our group and still had us poor bus travellers home in Queenstown at a good hour.
I would happily recommend Altitude tours and suggest you seek out one hosted by Shelly. And she loves Aussies!

Great experience, a nice drive from Queenstown with a few stops along the way, and an amazing Milford Sound boat tour. Chelsea was an awesome driver and guide who shared various information and took us to sightseeing stops along the way. We got lucky and were able to experience both a clear/sunny drive there, and a rainy drive back (which formed tons of new waterfalls in the mountains that we didn't see on the way there). The drive itself was with a small group (~13 people), and we shared a boat with maybe two or three other groups. Would recommend the smaller group tours, because we were able to stop at places that larger buses couldn't access and get up close to the waterfalls. You can also just grab food during the Te Anau stop if you don't want to add-on the box lunch. Definitely recommend this tour, because it was really nice not having to drive ourselves there, and we learned a lot from Chelsea!

We booked this Altitude Tours trip to Milford Sound back in March and were looking forward to this part of our holiday in New Zealand. Its safe to say that our expectations were not let down!

Our tour guide, Sean, was extremely informative of every Māori legend along the way, and threw in some funny jokes too! As well as this he made the round trip entirely smooth sailing, from picking us up, to collecting our boat tickets and dropping us off home. So we would like to thank Sean and Altitude Tours for an amazing day!

We would highly recommend Altitude Tours as a choice for your day out to Milford Sound, its worth every penny, and we hope to see them again in the future!

We had an incredible day with Altitude's full-day tour of Milford Sound, starting from Queenstown. Our guide, James, was both knowledgeable and witty, making the experience all the more enjoyable. As someone who loves to learn about the history and trivia of the places I visit, this tour was pure gold. The itinerary was perfectly balanced, with just the right number of scenic stops, and everything ran like clockwork.

The cruise itself was unforgettable, with Milford Sound's awe-inspiring beauty on full display. We even had the chance to spot seals and penguins, which made the experience even more special. The captain did a fantastic job explaining everything during the cruise, and his humor had us all in splits. Paired with the fantastic weather we enjoyed, it was the perfect day for our group.

A special thanks to James for keeping the group's energy high throughout the entire trip!

A long day but was well worth it! Erik was a great tour guide - very knowledgeable of the sights, places, native plants along the road (among other things) as well as their history and cultural significance. I especially appreciated that he shared a lot about Māori culture. He was very attentive to the needs of everyone in our group. He was organized and kept everyone informed of our travel itinerary, timeline, safety, possible hazards/delays.

Our van was comfortable, seating a maximum of 16 persons. My daughter and I pre-ordered the chicken sandwich lunch which included chips, an apple, a mini muffin, a chocolate bar and some mint.

The tour is on the pricey side but considering the service and the distance, the cost is understandable.

The cruise on Milford Sound was great - views to behold! It wasn’t raining today but we still saw a couple of beautiful waterfalls. A few dolphins swam close enough for us to take videos.

The photo opportunities along the way was great too. We especially liked Mirror Lake.

Thank you Nevel! Amazinggg tour! It is so worth it! When making the booking I was a bit hesitant because of the duration but you don’t feel the 5 hour trip there because the views are beautiful and they kept getting better! There was plenty of stops to go to the bathroom, grab a snack and beautiful spots to take plenty of photos. Commentary and background music to match the view added to the whole experience. We went on a windy day but Nevel ensured we were comfortable the whole time (especially when being stuck in different sorts of traffic). As for the Milford Sound - it was fantastic (they recommend to take a flight back to Queenstown for another perspective of the views). Although it was raining, we enjoyed the splash from the waterfall as well as seeing the penguins, dolphin and seals.
This is a must do, so if you’re on the fence about booking like I was, just book it you won’t regret it!

P.S having the smaller group ensured a more customised experience and is worth the extra $$ for comfort.

We were on the Milford Sound Full Day Experience with the glass-top roof & lunch option.

I'll start off by saying that the van was SUPER comfy. Our driver (Jono- more on him in a sec), let us know that the company tends to undersell the tour so that people have more room to spread out- certainly the case for us. Out of a 17 seat van, there were only ten of us on the tour. Very much appreciated the extra room!

Milford Sound was as beautiful as we'd hoped & we lucked out with the weather.

But the true gem of the day was our driver, Jono (from London). He was a wealth of information for the ~4 hour drive to the Sound and to add our experience, as we began seeing more epic scenery, he played epic music to match- absolutely LOVED that! We stopped on the way to see a few highlights before the Sounds. Six of the ten of us rode back in the van (the other four flew back). Jono was great about letting us snooze for most of the drive but once closer to Queenstown he again, added to the experience by sharing more local lore and even threw in some LoTR knowledge. Absolutely delightful driver/ tour guide: fun, insightful and like a walking encyclopedia on all things Aotearoa! Truly enjoyed this day!

Graeme was our driver and made the trip amazing! The bus fits about 16 people and the seats are very comfortable with big windows and a sun roof which makes viewing the scenic drive great. Graeme gave the perfect amount of commentary with interesting facts throughout the drive and stopped at the perfect places for photo ops and sight seeing. I would highly recommend touring with Altitude as it's a more personal trip and I felt a lot better being in a small van compared to some of the huge ones on the road. Overall a 10/10 experience - you have to do it!
