- BZimm080 contributionsChance to see a Kiwi BirdOne of our goals while visiting New Zealand was to see a Kiwi Bird and Kiwi Park was the perfect place to see them. We paid for the entrance and got a time slot right away to see the Kiwi Birds in the back. There were 4 kiwi's and we saw them all running around, they are more active then I thought. I also learned about not only the kiwi's but other wildlife native to New Zealand. Outside of the kiwi bird, there were other birds and reptiles here. The live show was informative as well. I highly recommend Kiwi Park when visiting Queenstown.Written 14 March 2025
- tristanb7610 contributionsInformative and fantastic kiwi experienceThis was a great experience. The park showcases lots of native New Zealand bird species, as well as some reptiles and fish. The kiwi talks are well worthwhile - not only was it very informative, but it was a great experience to see kiwis up close. Conservation is at the heart of the Kiwi Park, and they do fantastic work.Written 30 September 2024
- TheGoodPlace190 contributionsThe heart of Queenstown - don’t miss this one!I had a great time at the Kiwi Park! I spent three hours there and attended the Kiwi encounter and conservation show, which were both very engaging and educational. The staff were so kind and welcoming, they were all willing to chat and offer more information. I also learned a lot that I didn’t already know about bees and New Zealand honey which was an added positive. The only downside (which isn’t the fault of the staff or park) is that several other visitors ignored the rules and took flash photography of the Kiwis which was really disappointing - please don’t do that if you visit! I’d gladly come back and bring more people with me, a highlight of my trip to Queenstown for sure.Written 24 January 2024
- Suz B0 contributionsFascinating! We spent 2 hours at the Kiwi Park this morning and loved it. The young lady who did the conservation show at 1100 was brilliant, so knowledgeable and a credit to the park. We loved seeing all the birds up close but the Kiwi encounter is very special. You need to take time for your eyes to adjust but we managed to see all 4 Kiwis! It was just amazing, they move quickly and sometimes they come right up close to the glass.Written 14 January 2024
- TJouer0 contributionsAmazing wildlife sanctuary built by a private family in the heart of QueenstownKiwi Park is an educational experience in the heart of Queenstown that is not to be missed. We enjoyed the pre-paid entry, the audio self-guided tour, and the Kiwi encounter. The trail contains many exhibits that wind through the hill and nature streams. Some of the endangered birds are in cages where they can be readily seen on branches or on the ground. The Kiwis are restricted as far as taking photos and exposure to light, so it’s a good idea to see the show. We also enjoyed the habitats that are available to walk through. The Māori cultural exhibits were interesting. Tip: Spend about 2-3 hours here. Dress appropriately in walking shoes and bring water.Written 13 January 2024
- EllenLovesHawaii0 contributionsWonderful wildlife parkThis little park is wonderful, lots of birds and even reptiles. Plus 4 kimi in a dark enclosure where they can be seen actively hunting for food. The enclosures are large and feel natural. The animals are well-treated. The conversation talk is very informative.Written 27 December 2023
- 778micheleh0 contributionsFun to view the KiwisI've been fascinated by the Kiwi, so it was wonderful to see them in captivity at this bird park. It took a while to adjust to the darkness but then you could see them in their natural habitat. Many other bird species to view as well.Written 16 December 2023
- timjstark0 contributionsBetter than I thought...I am not that into birds...however, I had a really good time here. We arrived just in time for the 10 AM Kiwi "Viewing". I would recommend going in a few minutes prior as it takes quite a while for one's eyes to adjust to the total darkness. We stumbled around attempting to see one of the four resident Kiwis while our eyes gradually adjusted. Soon, a naturalist gave an informal presentation of the four...and they were all just delightful in their own ways. After that presentation, we wandered through the various and lovely pathways, seeing tons of birds with excellent signage describing what we were seeing. Eventually we attended the Conservation Show (both the Kiwi and Conservation Show are included in the price of admission.). The Conservation Show was excellent as well; both informative and humorous. The little cafe and honey shop as well as the compact gift show all are very new and zen adding up to a better than expected visit to the Kiwi Park.Written 29 November 2023
- mdh9690 contributionsKiwi ParkWe got off the gondola and took a walk through Kiwi Park. It was OK, but nothing really exciting. We got to see a kiwi in the tour, but the rest of the park was nice, but not worth the $52.00 admission fee.Written 2 November 2023
- travbud10 contributionsCool Kiwi ExperienceOk, so this requires a little explanation. The price of this experience is $50 and so a little high. The money does go to support the preservation of the park and the animals. My original expectation was that this was going to be an average animal park with little or nothing to do and so I was hesitant to do it. They do some shows where they introduce you to different animals, mostly birds which is fun and relatively short. It is a short walk around with a variety of different bird habitats and enclosures. However, there is really only one reason to visit and that is to see the Kiwi birds. Please read the below because it should help you in determining whether this experience is right for you. The Kiwis are nocturnal birds and as such, they have designed an enclosure for them that is pitch black. When we visited they had 5 birds in total and each in their own enclosure within the main visiting area. They do an almost hourly talk on the birds, what they eat, etc. which is helpful. You must commit some time to visiting them because you need a while for your eyes to adjust to the very low light environment. You cannot hold them, touch them or even take pictures of them. At first you will not be able to see them at all as they are both fast and your eye sight will be poor. After about 10 minutes, your eyes will adjust to the light. Each bird is kept separate and you can see each of them individually. They are quite active and running around with their long beaks. They are quite cute and have a funny walk. We spent nearly 45 minutes with them and seeing each of them. Once your eyes have adjusted you will be able to seem them from across the room easily and you can watch them wander around, eating and jumping (they don’t fly), which is most enjoyable. Again, if this experience or the price does not sound good to you, I would frankly skip it entirely as this is the real highlight. If you are interested in seeing a Kiwi, which is nearly impossible otherwise, and would enjoy spending time watching them after allowing your eyes to adjust to the light, then this is a wonderful experience. Just providing this detail to help you make an informed decision.Written 28 October 2023
- Pumpkin200 contributionsKiwis & conservationWe were looking forward to seeing Kiwis, and were not disappointed! On arrival you have the option to collect a head set to give you a self guided tour, it would help greatly if the numbers for each stop were more prominently displayed, we found it a bit of a nuisance to have to hunt for the corresponding numbers. The trails/walkways could be a bit of a challenge for some with mobility issues. Don’t miss the conservation show, the keeper who ran this did an outstanding job, we found it most interesting. Although I’m not sure about the rats 😂. The Kiwi encounter was good, we were lucky enough to see the kiwi & it was very busy hunting for its lunch!Written 27 October 2023
- TR820 contributionsOverpriced and not so greatWe went here today as our eldest daughter loves birds, the park itself is surprisingly large with a fair bit of walking between enclosures and some hills which may be problematic for young kids or elderly. We went to the show and saw only one bird fly from one perch to another and a possum for about 2mins - it was pretty poor particularly compared to shows we have seen in Australia such as Currumbin Sanctuary and Australia Zoo- the kiwi enclosures are good and worth a look to see a rare bird. All in all it was very disappointing compared to other bird experiences we have seen and at almost $120 per family probably double what I would think it is worth, I know it goes to conservation, but felt a bit like a tourist trap.Written 4 October 2023
- 808giggles0 contributionslove those kiwiI checked out the Kiwi Park near the base of the Skyline gondola. It was worth the admission. The tuataras weren’t in their reptile house but I got to see one during their conservation show. Pretty cool looking! The set up of the park was good as you walked along several pathways. I loved the Kiwi house and enjoyed the guide talk. I saw 3 out of the 4 kiwis there. The various native birds looked healthy and had places to hide if they didn’t want to be seen. I love that the buff weka walked past you to get to the other side of the enclosure.Written 3 July 2023
- bellaeleven0 contributionsCute Kiwis!!Very good park to visit to learn all about the kiwis plus other native NZ species and how they are trying to stop/eliminate the introduced animals that have devastated their numbers. It was a cold and rainy day when we went but it didn't stop us from seeing everything. Complimentary umbrellas provided and they even had blankets and heated hot water bottles for the sit-down area where the keeper talks are held, it was also undercover. All the staff were very friendly.Written 23 June 2023

We spent an enjoyable couple of hours at the park and particularly liked the kiwi encounter- once our eyes had accustomed to the dim, but necessary low, lighting. We saw all four of the delightful balls of feathery fluff running and hopping around their enclosures - enchanting. We also enjoyed the animal show at the end of our walk about - most informative and well delivered by one of the keepers. Such an important park needs support and we were glad to make a financial contribution to such a great enterprise - let’s hope reintroduction of kiwis back into the wild helps redress the balance for future generations of these wonderful animals.

Once in a lifetime opportunity. Be sure to do the Kiwi experience; we had a very friendly and knowledgeable staff member host this session. The staff provided a wealth of intonation and the opportunity for us to ask questions afterwards. The kiwi are located in a very dark room as they are nocturnal animals, and you have to be very quiet. I would not recommend bringing your kids in the kiwi experience as we had kids interrupting the presentation and scaring the kiwi. Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable and unique experience for everyone!

While in Queesntown took the opportunity to take the grandchildren to see the kiwis and other birds. I was surprised at the admission price of $48 per adult. I thought a price of $30 per adult to be more reasonable. I looked at the website after the visit and saw that a ticket is valid for 3 consecutive days. This was not mentioned when we purchased tickets. This makes the price more reasonable. We were given a headset to listen to the commentary when at particular enclosures and a map help navigate. The 5 year old really enjoyed both the map and being able to listen. The gravel paths were well maintained with streams and trees providinf welcome shade on a hot day. The conservation show was interesting and it was fun to see the tuatara, opposum and other birds. The bees were a hit as the young lady explained in words the granchildren could understand why bees wiggle their bottoms and are so busy.

Loved this zoo so much, it was different than expected, but in a good way. It felt like a nature walk, or a hike, with animal exhibits along the way. Was very peaceful and lovely the whole time. We loved seeing the Kiwi show too, just be warned that it gets pretty packed during the show, but when we went in before the show started, we had the place to ourselves and could see them perfectly. Definitely make this a part of your NZ trip.

Most cages could have been empty for all we know. Gave each a thorough looking over. Presentation of cages poor messy. Only birds we saw that seemed alert were the subantartic parots. Providing just a voice commentary doesnt really cut it.'Local building has caused kiwis to beconcentrated in one building . Felt I was " ripped off" other sancturies in NZ do it much much better. Staff were promoting bird display but after searching to find inspiration in caged displays i wasn't prepared to wait another hour for the party piece so left. I would advise anyone if yournear any other Kiwi sanctury go there. Conservation costs but this is a rip off.

I had no idea about kiwis save for that they're native/endemic to New Zealand, and that they're birds, kind of. This place taught me all the important info in a nutshell, with enviable enthusiasm and dedication to saving the kiwis.
Not just kiwis - all sorts of birds that are endemic to New Zealand. There was a conservation show where they showed off different kinds of birds, and it was just so great to see the passion the keepers have for them. Like I would love to be a bird in the Kiwi Park, lol
We also went to the kiwi talk for which you need a reservation (the folks at the admissions counter give you time-stamped tokens, so just tell them you want to go), which was also lovely. Kiwis are nocturnal, so someone gave a talk about kiwis and answered questions to us in the dark. I couldn't see how many people were with us, but it felt like 15? So not a very big group so as not to stress out the kiwis.
The staff was without exception super friendly. There was also free honey tasting, which was random but cool. The cafe had hot honey latte too, in case you need that honey with a hit of caffeine. The staff there was a delight as well!
All in all definitely recommended! The only difficult, unenjoyable part was the parking.
Sorry I didn't take a lot of photos, I was so enamored with the birds and the staff that I completely forgot. Have a few shots of my drink, though! It technically has a kiwi on it

Park is located on the side of a mountain, hence, there is a lot of steep walking up and down the pathways. That said, the exhibits are vey interesting and well done. Live show gives the opportunity to see some of the native birds outside of their confines.

This is a nice park in Queenstown where we were able to see some of the wildlife (especially Kiwi birds!) that we hadn't been able to see elsewhere during our trip. They seem to focus on really trying to help the animals rather than just caging them like a zoo. The Conservation show was nice because we got to see some of the animals up close. The only downside is that in the Kiwi areas you aren't allowed to take pictures - even without flash or your screen on. The kiwi birds are really sensitive to light and if someone accidentally uses a flash or has a lit screen, the light can send the animals into shock because they are nocturnal and very light-sensitive.

A beautiful peaceful wildlife park in town with a large variety of native birds. The Kiwi encounters was very informative, and I must applaud the staff for their patience and not showing their frustration at loud and disrespectful tourists! We also enjoyed the conservation show, getting an up close look at the Morepork, Kereru, and Tuatara. Great little outing during our Queenstown ‘Rest Day’. Definitely worth it!

The Kiwi park is well worth a visit next time you’re in Queenstown. We had Chloe guide our kiwi experience and seeing the kiwis so close is so incredible. Chloe was full of information about the kiwis and about the park’s conservation efforts and it was such a pleasure to spend a morning here. The conservation show that they do was also really worth the time. It was very informative and we got to see more of the animals up close. The honey tasting is also very cool. We’d recommend you give yourself at least a few hours to wander around and if it’s between doing this or going on the gondola, kiwis should win every time!
