      A must for LotR lovers.
Dan was a great guide & driver for our full day of LotR activity North and South of Queenstown. Loved dressing up and great lunch back in town. Did not make our fortune panning for Au gold but had lots of fun. The 4x4 river crossings are not for those with a bad back but we loved it

Great way to see more scenery with LotR thrown in
Our guide Justin was energetic, informative, and considerate. He made sure to check in with us when the road was rough and helped us in an out of the car. He had pictures of LotR scenes to show when we visited each spot. There weren't a lot of LotR stops - just what's accessible in the area, which makes sense. To add to the half-day, there were additional scenic spots and the gold panning thrown in. I personally didn't find the gold panning added a lot, but I did appreciate the tea and biscuit break we had at the same time. Keep in mind that you are sharing a 6 seater off-roading vehicle. It can be tight and a rough ride in some part (fun for some, nauseating for others).

A breathtaking way to spend the morning!
What a glorious and spectacular tour. Ginny/Jenny was an amazing tour guide with outstanding insight and information. Not to mention, funny. The off-road portion was also fun. Splashing through rivers and bouncing around in dirt roads kept us on our toes and buckled tight. A great way to spend the morning!

This is a "must do" when visiting the area
Our family of ten (including kids ages 10-16) had a terrific experience. Not only were the sights astonishingly beautiful but we had two driver/guides were absolutely first-rate (Roger and Ginnie). Absolutely a must when visiting Queenstown.

There and (we will be) Back Again
Fantastic tour! Our tour guide (Hannah) was terrific!! She was knowledgable and informative about New Zealand, Queenstown and the surrounding areas, and of course the LOTR filing locations and background movie magic. The 4WD parts of the trip are unreal! Such a perfect tour.

Great family day out with beautiful scenery.
We had a great day. A cool way to see the beautiful scenery around Queenstown whilst learning bits about the behind the scenes tricks and sets of LOTR movies. The 4WD river crossings were also fun.

Great for Lord of the Rings fans!
Our guide Justin was brilliant. He was very friendly throughout the tour and offered lots of interesting information. He also took some great photos of me in famous locations such as Isengard and Sam’s potato cooking spot. We also got some great pictures with many movie props. Thank you :)

      Best afternoon ever!!
We thought this would be great but it was even better than expected. Loads of fun, incredible scenery, great local and LOTR knowledge, plus lots of good photo opportunities. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Daryll - he was awesome!

Stunning views, exciting off-road driving experience and excellent tour guide, a perfect trip!
Really enjoyed the half day LOTR tour. The vistas were stunning and the topography of the area, where sections of the films were shot and history of the region, were very well explained by our guide, Phoebe. Arrowtown is a beautiful town, packed with history, then onto some off-road driving through the river, to a beautiful spot for some gold panning, Phoebe was an excellent driver and I really enjoyed the exhilaration of the terrain. Sadly, didn’t find any gold, but the hot chocolate and cake were delicious! An excellent experience, would highly recommend it 😀

Good value scenic tour of Queenstown surrounding vistas.
Many stops at scenic spots for photos. Enthusiastic and entertaining tour guide. Going off-roading was fun and got us to places unreachable by road vehicles.

      An amazing experience!
What an amazing experience! Our LOTR Glenorchy Tour was a great morning adventure as our guides took us to different filming locations for LOTR and other movies. Their knowledge on the subjects was excellent and the locations were stunning. We were able to go to locations that we would not have known about if it wasn't for the tour. A big shout out to our guide Dan. Thanks for a great tour! We all had an amazing time. Anyone thinking of doing this tour, I highly recommend. Book it today!

An awesome trip, travelled over some fantastic trails and saw the best views of Queenstown from remote locations.

Very good safety briefings, clear explanation trip was at right pace with good commentary and ample time on the bikes. Jono and Sam brought a real professional and friendly approach to the tour it felt like being with good mates by the end of the day.

Quads had enough power in really good safe condition would highly recommend this trip and Nomad Safari's to anyone looking for the best quad experience.

Hugely enjoyable experience whether solo or in a group. The hosts Dan and Lucas were friendly & informative - they made sure everyone was comfortable & then adjusted the trip based on everyone's competencies.
We had sensational weather - the guys took some great photos, led us to excellent photo spots and generally enjoyed the morning with the group, which added to the experience. It is really refreshing to have hosts/tour leaders who genuinely enjoy getting to know and interact with the group and it meant the group responded in kind.

Can easily say that all of our group members left with a smile on their face after a really enjoyable morning - would highly recommend to anyone visiting Queenstown!

The weather this summer in the South Island has been amazing so yes I can imagine the kind of "bluebird" day you got. The views are pretty spectacular regardless of the weather - so pleased you enjoyed "our office" and that Dan & Lucas were helpful and informative. Thumbs up to you for the 5 star recommendation

This tour is advertised as a 3-1/2 hour tour. We got about 40 minutes of actual riding time. It seems they are counting the time they pick you up, fill out waivers, fit you with jackets, pants and boots and then a lot of time training you with their practice track.

The ride itself is not exciting. Just a diet road going up a hill. Not challenging at all. The view is outstanding for sure but they take way too much time with the coffee, tea and hot chocolate. I’d say we were there about 30 minutes. Then it was back down the hill to their shop. I was a bit shocked so I asked what was going on. The staff member explained that was the end. I said,”this was supposed to be 3-1/2 hours”. He said that included the pick up, return, etc. I asked him if he was in a hurry to end the tour and his reply was “yes”. That they had to clean off the quads, etc.

To make matters worse, one of our inexperienced riders flipped her quad. Fortunately she nor the quad was hurt although they took a bunch of pictures of the quad. I found out after we returned that they have charged her 400nz to go no more than 15 minutes back where they left it to retrieve it. Really?!! 2 guys going back to get the quad they’re charging 400nz? That’s just a complete ripoff.

I brought 23 people to this company for this tour. 15 riding in their buggies and 8 on the quads. The buggy people seemed to enjoy the tour Seinfeld they didn’t need yo go through the training so they left on their tour earlier. The quad people were not too happy. Just a lot of money to pay for a boring 40 minutes of even terrain.

I wanted to post screenshots of the claim of a 3-1/2 hour tour but it seems I’m unable to do that. You can see it on their website.

Ed, we do appreciate the business you brought us. We feel your group received exactly the same experience as all our other clients and as you can see, we normally get 5 star reviews which confirms most are happy with the experience we offer. We do advertise on our website 2.25 hours on the bikes which is exactly what your group received. (3.5 hours total, less 1.25 hours travel, paperwork and kitting out time). We are required by law to ensure everyone is capable and understands how to ride a bike before setting off in control of their own bike. The terrain can be challenging and technical for most, I’m sorry you felt it was boring – you can see from the many reviews that often it is the other way round and that clients occasionally feel uncomfortable riding on their own. You say one of your inexperienced riders flipped her quad, this is exactly the reason we ensure they do full training, and as a matter of safety we get any quads involved in an incident fully checked before going out again. We have the bikes fitted with special equipment to aid clients safety and everyone was relieved to learn no-one was injured in the incident. The charge after an accident is market rate and covers time and costs spent to get the bike recovered and also includes the thorough assessment of the bike. Afternoon tea is often welcomed and I understand was being enjoyed by all your guests so that they could relaxed and enjoy the view and the sunshine. We find it also allows the clients to be refreshed for the return journey down the hill back to base. We are sorry you did not enjoy the tour, we took you and your wife free of charge being tour hosts so normally we would expect those in the tourism industry on a free trip to give us feedback directly rather than via a public arena. However like any customer going free or not, we have investigated your comments and do feel we offered you the trip as advertised and that there was nothing false or misleading .

    Keypoints
    1. Incident, brake was not working properly
    2. Rude and unprofessional staff
    3. Unreasonable charge price
    4. Invoice were not given after we pay the charge fee (my friend need to ask many times for that, seriously?!)

Me and my friend had a bike accident. When I go down the hills, my brake was not working properly and my front bumper hit my friend’s quads. (See the picture attached)

The guide who managing our tour was so rude, arrogant, and unprofessional.
She said that we were idiot because of the incident (so unprofessional). And she said that this happened for the first time but when I checked the reviews, people also get accident as well (meaning this is not the first time).

We need to fill the incident form and give our credit card details.

We got charged at unreasonable price, $750 deposit for each of us (so it’s $1500 NZD) although it is just a minor damage to the plastic and to the front bumper. (See the picture attached.)

They said they will evaluate the damage and the repairs, and refund the excess money.

After we pay, they was not giving the invoice and my friend need to ask the invoice many times. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!

After a few days, we got the email said we charged $1440 NZD ?!! Just for this small damage?!!

We have been ripped off just for that.
If I can I will give 0,5 star, this is totally dissapointing.

KChrss, thank you for your review. We are disappointed you felt the need to write this negative feedback however you signed paperwork accepting a charge for any damage you caused. All bikes are checked thoroughly before each tour and the brakes were working fine. Therefore the accident is due to driver error, not faulty equipment. Our staff are not rude and unprofessional. They would have calmly and clearly explained to you what needed to happen next. The charge price was very accurate, therefore not at all unereasonable. You have been sent the quote from the repairer and we were only a few dollars out in our estimate. The fact that you wrote directly to our mechanics trying to get them to deal with you directly shows a complete lack of respect and understanding of the way of doing business in New Zealand. There is no point in an invoice being raised until the charges are finalised. I have not seen any correspondence where you asked for this. And I think you mean receipt, not invoice? You and your friend drove into each other, therefore we are within our rights to charge for any damage as you agreed to when you signed the paperwork. Just like a hire car. I am sure you would not like to get on a damaged quad bike, so how would the person who rides the same bike after you feel? We pride ourselves on our high standards of safety and presentation therefore any damage is repaired as soon as our mechanics can do it. You have not been ripped off, you have been charged for the damage you caused and you know this is so. I hope this answers all your issues.

Queenstown is built on adventure. No matter your personal daily dose of adrenaline, there is an option to increase your heart rate. Our choice was to try out Quad Bikes and trek to points high above the city. As with most adventure companies, we met our van on Shotover street and departed for the mountains. Once there, we were greeted by our guides Jordi and Ella followed by a safety briefing and practice maneuvers on the quads. Now it was ‘go’ time, motoring a few thousand feet up switchback trails through the dust and mud. The views along the way were spectacular, but the top was where the real show took place. Surrounded by stunning views of Queenstown we enjoyed tea, cocoa, biscuits and snacks and got to learn more about the area from our Jordi and Ella. The trip back down the mountain was no less memorable. This adventure was exactly what we needed and a wonderful introduction to Queenstown.

Thank you for sharing your incredible adventure with us! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such a fantastic time quad biking and exploring the stunning views above Queenstown. It’s great to know that Jordi and Ella provided a memorable experience with their knowledge and hospitality, from the thrilling ride up the mountain to the relaxing break with tea and snacks. We’re glad the adventure was exactly what you needed and served as a wonderful introduction to Queenstown. We hope to see you back for more thrilling experiences in the future!

    1. There are no Honda Quads as advertised
    2. Had a total of 45min riding time not the advertised 2-2h20min
    3. The quad bikes don’t have power steering or 4x4
    4. The entire duration of the trip ended up being 4h30min from pick up and drop off, not the 3h30min as advertised
It took 1h and 45min before the actual quad tour even began then we first drove on the bikes for 20min straight then stoped for 25min for tea and biscuits then drove for another 10min then stoped for 15min then drove for 15min then got back 40min before the end of the tour. The whole time was a complete dust storm as you are only driving on a dusty open road so make sure you wear the goggles and can hold your breath from the dust and be prepared to have to wash all your clothes afterwards.
Yes there are good views from the top and the tour guides were super friendly, however you can also obtain the exact same views by just taking an hour hike up Queenstown mountain and it’s free. Considering what you get, this quad bike tour should only be $120max per person, however I wouldn’t do it again for free considering the dust and just being unpleasant from that and the limited ride time

Hi BillyBWB, thank you for your review. You are quite correct, we have replaced the Honda Quads with Suzuki Quads which are far superior. We have also updated the website so thank you for pointing that out. We are struggling to work out all the maths in your review. There is dust up on the hill but there is very little we can do about this given the dryness of the weather and the fact that we are on dirt tracks. Regarding the tour length we can only assume that the day you did the tour was one when the traffic and roadworks were against us.... it has been a nightmare in Queenstown for many months and we are all mightily fed up with having to deal with it every day. This would account for the extra hour your tour took we presume. The total time on bikes is two hours, not the tour time, this includes the training which is necessary in order to ensure everyone is safe as per NZ Health and Safety requirements. We are really flummoxed as to how you got back 40 minutes before the end of the tour if you were away for more than an hour over the advertised time. You will see that we have very many excellent reviews for our quad bike tour and many very satisfied customers. We would like to know what we did on your tour that differs from theirs. If you can explain this any better please can you do so in an email to us.

Fantastic trip with our local guide Ben. Made us feel confident handling the bikes with the training prior to setting off on the tour. Ben was very knowledgeable on all aspects of the local scenery. (He also makes a great T or coffee at the halfway point.!). I throughly recommend this tour and a must to do while visiting QT

This was a fun half day adventure close to Queenstown. The equipment was in great condition, the guides were great, the views were epic. At the end after we were all warmed up and used to the bikes we did a cool technical, low speed trail that was the perfect finish. Highly recommend.

Thanks for the recommendation, we take safety seriously so we make sure the more technical bits are when everyone is confident enough to do them. We love the views too - everyone mentions them but it's hard to describe until you have been there
