Don’t miss out on this wonderful experience!
This trip was one of the best tours I’ve ever taken! The scenery was superb and the lunch at Walter Peak was outstanding! It is a must do in Queenstown. We added the sheep dog trial to the trip which was fascinating. I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!

Excellent day out, well organised, fun and informative.
Throughly enjoyed this trip. Quinn our guide was a great host. It is obvious that it is not just a job to him but a privilege to be part of and adding to the history of Walter Peak Station. Of course Kimmy the working dog also did him proud on the day 😊

      Surprisingly Fun and Interesting
My wife and I had an evening with nothing planned so we made an impromptu voyage on the Earnslaw. We lean toward adventure and excitement, so we had low expectations. But wow! What an experience. This is a famous boat, for good reason, and roaming the decks and engine room is a real treat. Truly surprised at how fun and interesting it was, and I would highly recommend--especially in the evening, or especially instead of shopping in Queenstown :) Note, we did not do the meal, so we cannot comment on it.

      Dinner at Walter Peak
The cruise was crowded although it was a smooth ride. The homestead and gardens are beautiful. The food was good. Although it was so rushed, the waiters were whisking your plate away before you’d finished. It was a crush trying to reach the salad/vegetable bar - there was no order. And the inflated price of wine was disgusting - $70 for an $18 bottle of wine from New World.

The BBQ lunch at Walter Peak had extensive choice and was very high quality.
An experience worth doing in Queenstown. The boat trip was a unique experience. We walked around the boat easily and were able to take lots of photos of the spectacular landscape surrounding Lake Whakatipu. Once the boat is underway, the best seats in the house, on a cool day, are near the engine room. The heat radiates through the bench seat. Very cosy. The BBQ lunch at Walter Peak was one of the best I have had. The choice was extensive and the quality very high. We are kiwis but the sheep show reminded us why visitors love coming to NZ. We could get up close to the sheep dogs and chat to the shearer.

      Great experience
We had a great overnight on the Mariner on Milford Sound. The first afternoon it was pouring with rain but that brought out all the waterfalls and in the morning we awoke to a glorious blue sky and stunning views. I enjoyed the Kayak and my wife did the tender boat. Food was great and atmosphere very sociable. Good drive down with a knowledgeable coach driver with some interesting stops along the way.

      Loved it.
One of the things we didn’t want to miss on our trip to South Island. We were not disappointed. Excellent food. Great crew. Comfortable cabin. Loved the kayaking and swimming. Relaxing. Not overcrowded. Friendly fellow passengers. Good value for money. The only things that could have improved our experience would be more waterfalls from recent rain and dolphins. Would recommend.

      Underwhelming
Underwhelming. Boat: said to be pram friendly but no preferential seating for prams or wheelchairs. This meant we had to squish into a small seat to fit us all as other spaces (eg downstairs) wasnt pram friendly. Lunch: very poor and disappointing, particularly due to price. They allow section by section to eat, however then you are lined up for so long as there is no order. Then after youve finished the first plate you have, they are packing up. The meat was ok, small variety of other salads etc. Nothing to rave about. Sheep show: this was good. Very informative. I dont rate or recommend it, especially not the lunch.

Cruise and Dinner Exceeded our Expectations.
The TSS Earnslaw is a wonderful old restored steamboat. The cruise is like stepping into a bygone era. For machinery geeks (like me) visiting the engine room was so cool. We were very pleasantly surprised about the dinner and visit to the farm. The buffet dinner was one of the best buffets we have ever experienced and the location of the restaurant overlooking the lake was beautiful, particularly with the sun setting. The farm show was an unexpected bonus after dinner. They demonstrated sheep shearing and dogs herding sheep. It was quite enjoyable and we learned a few things in the process. Highly recommended!

Great Overall and Comprehensive Experience for Adults and Kids Alike!
This was a fantastic experience! We've been to Walter Peak many, many times on the beautiful boat TSS Earnslaw, over the course of 20 years - for lunch and dinner. But this was the first time we've done the cruise and farm tour which was an amazing three and a half hour experience. We were motivated by having a 2 year old and 5 year old with us and it was a wonderful experience for two city-raised children to see farm animals close up, and even feed them by hand with the food provided by our guide Quin. He was the person who showed us around the farm, guiding everyone to the animals, bringing the food, and describing facts about the animals. His explanations were really great - easy for the children to understand, he had a great and loud speaking voice and clearly he really loved these animals. After the farm tour we had a lovely afternoon tea, with something for everyone, including the children. Delicious blini with smoked salmon, cheese scones with jam and cream, various cakes, hot drinks and more! Following the afternoon tea we experienced the sheep-shearing demonstration, also done by Quin (with a terrific and comprehensive explanation), and a demonstration of rounding up sheep by the working dog, Kim. I never get tired of going to Walter Peak - it's a beautiful place, the boat trip is always a joy and with its open view of the mechanical workings of the engine from above it's amazing, and we love it! The gardens and homestead at Walter Peak are very picturesque and again, we couldn't resist taking lots of photos! This experience was fantastic for the children, but I have to say that there were mostly adults on the tour and they all seemed to really enjoy it, showing a lot of appreciation to Quin. I would highly recommend this farm tour and cruise from Queenstown to Walter Peak for any visitor to the area.

      TSS Earnslaw Incredible Views
We arrived in Queenstown and took the Earnslaw out on the lake as our first introduction to the beauty of NZ. There are so many great restaurants in Queenstown, we skipped the farm tour. And, if you are in NZ, trust me you will see plenty of sheep. Stay out on deck with the wind in your face and marvel at the scenery.

      Wonderful afternoon
Very enjoyable day. The boat riding is amazing. Great visibility from the windows with an added bonus that the windows open full width to allow for a clearer viewing and also fresh air. Plenty of comfortable seating. You can also sit outside in the bow. Refreshments are available. There was also entertainment which was not over powering. You could also visit a museum of sorts which explained how the boat was powered. The farm grounds are beautiful. Buffet was very nice. Plenty of meat options. Wonderful desserts. Loved the candy. Meal was very good. The show was interesting. Saw a sheep sheared and saw the sheep dog bring in the sheep. Did not have time to visit the gift shop. Very popular attraction. Glad we came. Recommend.

Unbelievable meal in a unique location.
The meal, location, and service was absolutely outstanding. The variety of food available was enormous, with all you can eat buffet style. All the various meats were cooked to perfection and there was also a good variety of desserts. The sumptuous meal was followed by an interesting sheep sheering and sheep dog display for those unfamiliar with these processes. The only negative to the evening was the trip to and from via the TSS Earnslaw, which is the subject of a separate review.

One of the best Birthday treats ever
It was my birthday and such an enjoyable treat. Although there appeared to be +++ passengers queued to go on board everything was highly organised and once on board there was plenty of room. The singer/musician made my day by singing happy birthday and other songs dedicated to me. Wonderful BBQ with amazing choices from self serve entree, meal and dessert to die for. The farm show was well worth watching, shearing and sheep dog gathering up the sheep. Lots of oohs and ahhs from the audience.

Beautiful trip on the Earnslaw; lots of people but didn’t feel too crowded, easy to move around. Sheep-shearing and sheepdog demonstrations were excellent but should include an announcement for people to be quiet during, could barely hear the employee. Feeding the animals was really fun and “teatime” was delicious. Gift shop is great, broad selection of sale items. Biggest thing was that there was no wool-spinning explanation or demonstration, as was promised in the description. Asked specifically about it in the gift shop and the salesperson basically shrugged. Waiting on a partial refund due to that.

This was a great experience! We booked the 11am boat ride and had lunch at about 12pm. The buffet is excellent quality everything was delicious and it is well organised with seating arrangements. The whole experience was lovely! I would recommend getting to the boat a little bit early as we couldn’t get a seat together inside but the boat but there was plenty of options on the bench seats on the outside of the boat which didn’t matter as it meant we got to enjoy the stunning views! My 6 year old loved exploring the engine room of the boat! Then on arrival at the Walter peak farm you go straight into the restaurant and are seated at your table with just your group members (we were a family of 6). There is a waiter to assist with drinks (extra cost) and let you know when the buffet is ready. So many delicious options! Then we went out to explore the beautiful property and watch the sheep shearing and dog rounding up the sheep we had a little bit of spare time left to look in the gift shop before the boat was ready to depart again. It was very enjoyable and fun for all ages!

Brilliant trip, recommended by a family member and we booked the 2pm sailing from Queenstown. Oh my, what a total treat. Everything was perfect, from the Earnslaw itself (polished brass, very polite staff, the chance to watch the boiler being stoked plus good coffee and snacks) to the farm experience. The weather could have been better but we didn't care it was absolutely perfect for us all.
The opportunity to meet and feed the farm animals, learn about their personalities, watch the dogs at work, chat with the guide then yummy high tea ! Sadly not enough time to browse in the shop there, full of tempting goodies... But maybe my husband thought that was a good thing!
    Do go.

Great experience overall. Great trip across the lake, interesting and informative visit to the animals, followed by a beautiful afternoon tea. This was followed by a demonstration on sheep dogs rounding up sheep. This excursion gets the thumbs up from us all!
The only bad point was I walked into stinging nettle that was going across a designated walking path - it stung quite a bit and when I mentioned it I felt it was dismissed. Other than that small factor a great day out!

Had the afternoon on the Earnslaw over to Walter Peak farm with the farm tour/afternoon tea. The experience on the Earnslaw is spectacular, from the piano player, to the viewing area of the workers fueling the ship, everything about this experience was so special and a must do! We jumped off at Walter Peak and had a tour of the farm with Tim who was incredibly informative about all of the animals and the workings of the farm. The animals were so cute!!! We had afternoon tea and were given a seperate plate as vegans (I can't remember the ladies name but she was so kind and considerate of us, making sure we were looked after and offered us plant based milk for coffee/tea. Thank you so much for caring for us!) Following this we watched the dogs round up some sheep while Tim commentated. The whole experience was so much fun. Thank you so much to all the staff who are a part in this trip for making it such a fun and memorable experience.

Despite the rainy, cold weather, the afternoon trip on Lake Wakatipu was scenic & enjoyable. Snow fell on the mountains in the afternoon. Hot mulled wine was enjoyed on the boat ride (not included in ticket price). The tour of the farm was hampered a little by rain however Tim our guide at the farm was upbeat & welcoming. The afternoon tea served in the Homestead was delicious & plentiful. Mia the Collie put on a great show herding the sheep down the steep hill to the pen.

The Earnslaw boat trip to Walter Peak Station was great with the amazing views and history. Able to see the engine room in action is an added bonus. The buffet lunch at the Honestead is delicious with a huge variety of food. The farm tour with show is interesting to watch even coming from a farming background!

There aren’t too many family friendly things to do in Queenstown, so we booked the cruise & farm tour to do as a family with a young child. And it was even better than expected, with beautiful scenery across Lake Wakitipu, a friendly and informative farm tour, including feeding the friendly animals. And a huge and delicious afternoon tea with cakes, scones, sandwiches and more!

Probably great for people with children. Journey on the boat had someone playing piano and seemingly anyone in the crowd singing.. including children.. once on the "farm": difficult to determine how it's a "working farm", we did not see any sheep shearing or herding dogs in action or anything of interest whatsoever, if you've ever seen cows, goats and sheep and basic farm animals in your life, this probably isn't the experience for you. "Afternoon Tea" consisted of black tea, coffee, water, and some sweet scones. Really should be marketed as a petting zoo experience for kids. Nothing wrong with it, just ... take your kids.

I love this trip! This was my third time and I would go again. The TSS Earnslaw is a beautiful vintage steamboat with an excellent cafe and bar. Visit the engine room and see them shoveling the coal. Walter Peak farm is in an idyllic situation, a magical place where time seems to stand still. The animal feeding is great fun (especially Dougal) and the sheepdog demonstration is very impressive. The dogs can be patted and stroked, and love the attention. The afternoon tea was very upmarket with beautiful little cakes, savoury and sweet scones and mini sandwiches. You can eat as much as you like! The staff at the farm are outstanding. Our guide Peter was so knowledgeable and interesting and clearly loves his job and his super intelligent dogs.
