Phenomenal! Firstly I did this tour with a larger group /coach, I wanted a more intimate experience and went with a small group /van option and the decision was the best I made ! Small comfortable van able to go where the big coaches can’t , if a spot is full of people coaches, no problem ! Able to go up further away from the crowds. They also partner up with a boat company at Milford Sound who has the same core values, whilst the boat is large comfortable, they are about minimal numbers so you can walk around the decks freely soaking in the magnificent scenery , waterfalls , wild life and history. We were lucky enough to have 2 dolphins playing in the boats wake surfing , turning on their sides to eyeball us as they were enjoying the attention! The staff were also enthusiastic and passionate , mingling with the patrons on board giving information- ontop of the usual boat commentary. The boat also nudges very close to the water falls , so bring your rain poncho if you want “ that photo “. Now our guide , Kreig ( pronounced Craig ) or feel free to call him “ Batman “, he would have to be the most passionate , comical , caring , knowledgeable tour guide I’ve ever experienced. Knowledgeable about Maori history , weaving in folk stories as we travel along. No need for selfies , Kreig is there to jump in taking photos and giving photographic advice on “ the perfect shot “ , he even went above and beyond of the way back, giving travel advise on spots to see , places to eat and whilst most guides would be happy to drop people off and run at the end of the day , Kreig took the time to drive passed restaurants, pointing them out ( on his and others recommendations ) so you knew where they were, Kreig if you are reading this, we tried one of you recommendation @Thai the best Thai ever !
So to summarise - I’ve done the homework for you, scoured the reviews and found the best ! I promise you going with a small luxury group tour is well worth it for your once in a life time experience with the amazing Milford sound and beautiful stops along the way

Cheeky Kiwi tours really gave Premium experience. We requested to change our booking and they were easy enough to accommodate.

It was worth spending extra money for a smaller tour bus with limited amount of people. We had time to check out the different spots along the way we didn’t feel rushed. This made for a comfortable trip there was 14 of us.

The lunch provided was filling we also had free coffee on the cruise which was a bonus as it was a cold & windy day. It was raining majority of the trip however, rain water cascading down the Fiords made up for it which gave fantastic views.

The cruise on Milford sounds took about 2hrs it was raining on the day we went we didn’t quite get the tall mountain views but we got a lot of view of waterfalls down the cliffs just majestic. We were further out enough to see the opening to Tasman sea it got a bit rough in the water but it was such a fun experience.

We had Dan as our driver & tour guide he has sound knowledge of the environment & it’s geographic formation. Dan is considerate & courteous to everyone in our tour bus.

Leave the rental car at home & take a small group tour instead. The day was a rainy one but the experience was well worth it, affordable & a breathtaking must do for anyone wanting a fun, educational and relaxing trip to Milford sound. With some beautiful stops along the way (that you may have blinked and missed on a self-drive), the tour ensures to incorporate the beautiful sights & sounds of Aotearoa with an enjoyable and immensely educational narrative. Our guide, Lance, was excellent, friendly, passionate & down to earth - with knowledge of everything from the native birds, Maori legends, lake geography, flora, fauna, livestock, funny stories & local recommendations - you could tell he both lives & loves the area & all it has to offer. A bonus that we all felt completely safe with his driving through some quite difficult terrain to the stunning Milford. The boat cruise was wonderful too but sadly no dolphin or penguin sightings either. Unfortunately, if you want to stop off at the underwater observatory this isn't an inclusion of this particular tour.

We were hell bent on going for our Milford tour during our vacation and it took 3 tries to make it happen. Our guide was Kreig and he was amazing. Entertaining us with his vast knowledge ranging from the history of NZ, Maori culture, geology and flora & fauna. While being a super safe and smooth driver and part-time photographer. We had the perfect clear weather, and the sights were just picturesque and breathtaking. Saw the Kea, botttlenose dolphins and seals. How lucky were we! On the way back, while the clouds were uncooperative to give us the reflection shot at Mirror Lakes, it made way for a beautiful sunset shot at Te Anau downs by the lake, and a beautiful painting of the sky as we rode down back to Queenstown. Thanks Kreig for making the call so that we can get the best possible views and experience out of our tour. Spent the whole day out but I spent it mostly in awe. Glad to have the opportunity to be on the #1 Tour in NZ. Perfect ending to our South Island leg.

Also, truly grateful to Cheeky Kiwi for accomodating our request to hold on to our reservation and rescheduling the tour, and patiently answering our calls to ask for updates.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time with our tour guide, Kreig. I’ll start with the highlight of the tour - Kreig is amazing, top bloke, and one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met; absolute king of banter. Great value for money, you have a similar experience of a more expensive tour, without the price tag (or snacks that you can just get yourself anyway). The itinerary was well thought out, made good use of time, and also allowed some flexibility for things we wanted to do (or not being stuck somewhere we have no interest in). The group sized are small, which means you aren’t herded about like cattle, waiting for ages for the noisey group to get going like larger tours. The bus was clean, modern and had loads of space. The cruise they put us on had a great boat, that they intentionally only half full so that people aren’t crammed in like sardines. I had researched quite a few different tour providers before booking, and I am certain that this is the best pick.

With the typhoon remnants hitting the Milford area a month ago and washing out the road, we were informed by Cheeky Kiwi that the tour would be compromised, and that most of the stops would not likely due to time constraints involving the schedule that the tour buses had to maintain entering the Milford region (there's one road in and out).
On that note, let me say that our driver Callum went above and beyond to make sure that our tour was affected as little as epossible. His timing and driving were superb, therefore we were able to stop in Te Anau for 25 minute washroom, coffee, and stretch break. As well, Callum stopped for a few minutes at Eglinton Valley for photos, and 15 minutes at the Mirror Lakes on what were ideal conditions for the reflection affect of the pools. Unfortunately, the Chasm was closed due to storm damage, therefore that was not
an option for any of the tours.
While it was a rainy day in Milford, as opposed to anywhere else, the boat tour was excellent. Much information was shared by the boat captain, the lunch was more than adequate, and the boat contained many options for seating and viewing. With it being rainy and foggy, some sights were slightly affected. However, the number of waterfalls there were numbered close to 100. We were told that had we arrived two days earlier, over ninety percent of those would not have been there. Additionally, all the boat staff informed us that the conditions outside were the natural conditions of the Sound, therefore we were experiencing it in it's natural environment. Absolutely stunning! We got to see a couple of seals hanging out, and even if it had not been raining, we would have gotten soaked with the proximity the captain placed us under the Falls! Awesome. On the bus ride back, we got to stop at Te Anau for close to half an hour again, enjoying an Alpaca farm for some animal photo ops.
I also want to add that our driver, Callum, was exceptional in every sense. He was informative, funny, accommodating, and an exceptional driver. As we arrived back into the Queenstown area, he also let us know of some good restaurants and bars in the town. Ironically, I bumped into him at one of those particular restaurants a couple of days later, so his suggestions were genuine. Callum is a great guy, and an excellent tour guide/driver.
To sum it all up, Cheeky Kiwi provided an experience I will never forget, and service well above what I had expected. Thanks guys (and girls). Give yourselves a huge round of applause. You all deserve it.

We just had the most out of the world experience. Shane who was our tour guide took us on an amazing journey from Queenstown to Milford Sound. Shane was passionate about sharing his knowledge of geography, history and folklore with us. Anybody can tell a story but the way that Shane tells a story really helped me imagine it better in my mind. He was kind to take photos of us across all the various locations of interest. John was his protege and together the two of them kept us entertained throughout this 12 hour journey. I would like to recommend Shane to anybody who is looking for an experience which is out of this world. Thanks Shane & John we had an amazing day out

We have seen, heard and learnt so much from Kreig during the trip to Milford Sound and back. I'm not taking anything away from the beauty of the MF but the information, stories and Maori folklore we got from Kreig along the trip for each of the scenic spots along the way was by far the best entertainment we got from the experience. Both my adult and pre-teen sons were engaged and absolutely enjoyed the folklore. My wife and I loved the facts we learned about the Lakes and Mountains and everything else. Kreig even knew the national anthem of some countries and got everyone to sing theirs and corrected us all - so funny.

He stopped on spots so we can get good photos, drink water from the river, entertain ourselves with the Kea and so much more.

We highly recommend this trip and experience and if anyone is thinking of going - look for Kreig.

MF cruise was splendid. we got near the fur seals and the waterfalls. Weather was stunning which is very important. The captain and his mate were very friendly and answered question.

We're David & Jacqui & we had the most amazing experience on the 19th of December with this Milford Sound trip.
Met in Te Anau by Craig in ideal sized van & group, and expertly guided on our journey. Craig was just excellent, instantly building a great vibe with group (singing anthems included) and was so informative and funny through trip.
Learnt many new things, and the sights were just incredible. My first time in South Island, and was truly blown aware by the scenery and the wet day and waterfalls everywhere were just incredible. As he mentioned, and I'd never really appreciated, "this is your backyard ladies and gentlemen"
Followed up by phenomenal boat cruise.
Thanks so much to Craig and this company for the special & truly memorable time

My favourite part of the trip were the views and the road trip down to Milford Sound with our intimate group and wonderful tour guide. I loved the small group experience because it helped us to engage, learn and explore more making it a better experience. I loved the little stopovers on the way where we could take pictures and Kreig (our tour guide) was willing to take pictures of us too which was awesome and he took great pictures too. It was funny when we all had to sing our national anthem I’ve never met anybody who has asked me to sing the National anthem of India and I had to sing the New Zealand anthem as well so thank you very much Kreig for that memory, you’re hilarious. Overall it is the best experience when you want to have something intimate with your friends or your partner or your family it makes the road trip down to Milford Sound very entertaining, even though it is a long drive but with a great tour guide and a small group of people it is really fun, enjoyable and doesn’t feel boring at all. I highly recommend cheeky kiwi travel, not just for Milford Sound but for any tours/activities, they are wonderful hosts and we are so impressed. Big thanks to Kreig for being an amazing tour guide and making our experience 10 times more fun.
