- MMods00Two superb days to Mt Cook and Lake TekapoA trip which had been on my bucket list for a long while and Cheeky Kiwi made sure it was an absolute hit! Loved every minute, the scenery was magical, I saw the lupins in bloom, the Hooker Valley Walk superb and our time in Tekapo, wonderful. Our driver Jim Scott ensured it was not rushed, it was informative and he was the best. I highly recommend the trip for everyone who wants a very memorable experience. Your camera will work overtime!
- MandyW15500Amazing tour! Our tour guide Jim was friendly and excellent in arranging our activities, with adequate stops during the long drive, and extra ones to take care of my family’s need. We got the most beautiful weather and views of Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo were stunning. Unique stargazing experience too!
- caitlyncrisp100best day everbest trip ever! a must do from start to finish it was amazing. 100% recommend we had camera as our tour guide he was the best tour guide we had, his playlist was great, all the information he provided throughout the tour was from the heart and you could tell he was passionate on what he was speaking about, even though the drive was around 4 hours each way it went super fast as we had commentary, good music and we’d be stopping off and pretty view points to take some photos. The packed lunch was lovely super yummy and filling. The views were breathtaking. So worth the price and more!
- jonathanlT1599TQ00Outstanding TimeOur guide, Tammy, was fantastic. She attended to everyone and spent time hiking with us. She had wonderful explanations, great stories, and terrific music. Although one of our participants was a bit delayed from the hike, Tammy managed to get us to Mt. Cook on time. We had a wonderful time on this trip.
- Seaside1050407232100lovely introductory tour to New ZealandI booked 2 tours with them and it was amazing. my tour guides, Angelo and Sarah, were both friendly, informative and engaging. the ride was comfortable and activities planned were nice, though I would prefer if more time was given
- 460yukiy00unforgettable sceneryThe scenery was dynamic and wonderful. I also enjoyed the scenery while moving. The guide was friendly and gave great directions.
- pennyv41100Incredible experience. What an amazing day., Mt Cook and the surrounds are breathtaking. Our driver/tour guide was great with his little stories and a safe driver. Thank you
- BoardingPass78742700BeautyEven though we had overcast skies, and could not do the sightseeing flight (we rode back in the van), we still found the drive and the cruise portions of the tour to be stunningly beautiful. Chris, who was our driver and tour guide, was cool. He has a joyful enthusiasm for sharing the beauty of New Zealand and some of his history. He also has a funny sense of humor.
- christopherbZ7950QB00Solo traveler, first time to Milford SoundWonderful experience, Brian was great as our driver. The cruise was incredible and the flight home had amazing views. Highly recommend!
- Experience22577900Milford Sd drive/cruise/fly - fabulous! The Milford Sound drive/cruise/fly tour was a highlight of our NZ trip! Cam, our driver guide, was excellent - good commentary, themed music, efficient stops, happy to answer questions. The cruise on a smaller boat was great, especially the fur seals and crested penguins. But the flight - beyond amazing. The views from above the mountains on a sunny day were breathtaking!
- V1065RFdanielp00Mt Cook & Hooker Valley Hike.Chris did an outstanding job hosting and serving as docent on Mt Cook & Hooker Valley Hike. We made it past the 3rd suspension bridge taking in the spectacular views, raging rivers, and majestic mountains. This was our first trip to New Zealand and Chris made this tour outstanding with his historical information and jokes. Many Thanks Chris !
- BackPacker79299100Greatest day outMy partner and I went on this tour for my birthday today and felt it was outstanding! Not only was our guide Richard incredibly knowledgeable, but we appreciated the care he put into his recommendations across the day. We also appreciated that this tour really let us experience a range of amazing nz landscapes!
- Voyager29517200Awesome ServiceWe went for the Routerburn track 3days walk, and used cheeky kiwi service to transport us from Queenstown to the track and return, the service was amazing, thank you so much Gyuri for dropping us right at the front of our hotel, we really appreciate the extra service provided. The bus was also really nice and comfy. Keep it up guys!
- PMarch00StunningThis is a great way to transfer between Christchurch and Queenstown. Several little stops on the way to Mt Cook with good opportunities for photos. I do wish we had a bit more time during those stops, but the day was already rather long. Diana and Chris were engaging and friendly while providing good commentary. A bagged lunch was provided and eating it at Mt. Cook National Park cannot be beat. I did two of the shorter walks to the Tasman Glacier (above and below) which are doable in about an hour if you're a quick walker. Highly recommend this tour.
- 2011NewYorkTraveler00Fabulous, beautiful tripIf I could give this 7 stars, I would. It was a beautiful, well organized tour. The sights along the way were breathtaking. I know this must seem to be an over the top review - and I’ve really written a review like this - but I mean every word,

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time with our tour guide, Kreig. I’ll start with the highlight of the tour - Kreig is amazing, top bloke, and one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met; absolute king of banter. Great value for money, you have a similar experience of a more expensive tour, without the price tag (or snacks that you can just get yourself anyway). The itinerary was well thought out, made good use of time, and also allowed some flexibility for things we wanted to do (or not being stuck somewhere we have no interest in). The group sized are small, which means you aren’t herded about like cattle, waiting for ages for the noisey group to get going like larger tours. The bus was clean, modern and had loads of space. The cruise they put us on had a great boat, that they intentionally only half full so that people aren’t crammed in like sardines. I had researched quite a few different tour providers before booking, and I am certain that this is the best pick.

Phenomenal! Firstly I did this tour with a larger group /coach, I wanted a more intimate experience and went with a small group /van option and the decision was the best I made ! Small comfortable van able to go where the big coaches can’t , if a spot is full of people coaches, no problem ! Able to go up further away from the crowds. They also partner up with a boat company at Milford Sound who has the same core values, whilst the boat is large comfortable, they are about minimal numbers so you can walk around the decks freely soaking in the magnificent scenery , waterfalls , wild life and history. We were lucky enough to have 2 dolphins playing in the boats wake surfing , turning on their sides to eyeball us as they were enjoying the attention! The staff were also enthusiastic and passionate , mingling with the patrons on board giving information- ontop of the usual boat commentary. The boat also nudges very close to the water falls , so bring your rain poncho if you want “ that photo “. Now our guide , Kreig ( pronounced Craig ) or feel free to call him “ Batman “, he would have to be the most passionate , comical , caring , knowledgeable tour guide I’ve ever experienced. Knowledgeable about Maori history , weaving in folk stories as we travel along. No need for selfies , Kreig is there to jump in taking photos and giving photographic advice on “ the perfect shot “ , he even went above and beyond of the way back, giving travel advise on spots to see , places to eat and whilst most guides would be happy to drop people off and run at the end of the day , Kreig took the time to drive passed restaurants, pointing them out ( on his and others recommendations ) so you knew where they were, Kreig if you are reading this, we tried one of you recommendation @Thai the best Thai ever !
So to summarise - I’ve done the homework for you, scoured the reviews and found the best ! I promise you going with a small luxury group tour is well worth it for your once in a life time experience with the amazing Milford sound and beautiful stops along the way

Very great experience in Milford Sound with Cheeky Kiwi.
Quick background: my partner and I already went to the Sound two years earlier. It was pouring rain (great for the waterfalls but we were literally showered each time we came out to take pictures). Add to that the size of the big group that we booked. We didn't leave the place with the best memories.
That is why it was important to us to experience it differently this time. Smaller group/better weather if possible.
Cheeky kiwi have been awesome !
1/ They have been really responsive and client-focused: a week before the trip, the forecast looked absolutely dreadful. We asked to postpone our day tour. They understood and accepted our shift request.
2/ The day of the tour, we have been lucky, the weather was absolutely amazing. That is how we wanted to enjoy Milford Sound. Great organisation; safe driving from (and to) Queenstown. The small size of the group was also a great advantage (we were 4 + Kreig, our guide).
3/ Special thanks to Kreig who has been absolutely fantastic, easy-going, sharing a lot a stories / knowledge about the Sound (and NZ in general). Also very respectful, when we wanted to remain calm, during the drive. He also shared good advices for pictures (at the front or the rear of the boat...), depending on our location in the sound.
In summary, thank you all for that. Wonderful experience. Will definitely recommand.

With the road closures due to the land slips the only way to get to Milford Sound is on an official bus tour. The buses travel in convoys at set times so the standard tour times and stops had changed a bit. We were staying in Te Anau so were picked up there by the friendly driver Martin. He was very helpful and informative. We picked up the rest of the passengers at the Alpine Centre with time a coffee and toilet break then headed off with our picnic lunch in a paper bag. Martin was very mindful of the time so we would be able to stop at viewpoints along the way. We were able to stop a few times including at the mirror lakes and still not sit in the queue for long. Once we got to Milford it was straight on the Milford Cruises boat with just one other tour group. The cruise was excellent. It was a small boat so we could get close to the waterfalls and cliffs. That being said it’s not the only small boat but there were a lot of bigger ones. Our lunch was good and coffee, tea and biscuits were provided too.
After the amazing cruise it was back on the bus and straight to the Alpine Centre in Te Anau. Martin has a strategy to get us there first so that we could use the toilets and grab a coffee before the Queenstown passengers headed back.
The small bus was comfy and Martin was very informative with lots of kiwi facts and figures but he also knew when to be quiet and just play music.
Highly recommended

Milford Sound was on the top of list and it didn't disappoint! Weather is out of your control (was drizzly & misty) but the sights made it worth it. The tour guide, Kreig, was fantastic. We had him for two Cheeky Kiwi tours and he made the trip engaging, educational and memorable. There are a lot of other tours out on the water but everyone keeps their distance so each tour boat can take in the scenery. Our tour bus group was small (loved this aspect of CK) but you do get onto a boat with several tour groups so the challenges of taking photos did exist at times. Photos don't do it justice anyways so spend your time soaking in the scenery! Overall, very happy with CK and this tour.

My favourite part of the trip were the views and the road trip down to Milford Sound with our intimate group and wonderful tour guide. I loved the small group experience because it helped us to engage, learn and explore more making it a better experience. I loved the little stopovers on the way where we could take pictures and Kreig (our tour guide) was willing to take pictures of us too which was awesome and he took great pictures too. It was funny when we all had to sing our national anthem I’ve never met anybody who has asked me to sing the National anthem of India and I had to sing the New Zealand anthem as well so thank you very much Kreig for that memory, you’re hilarious. Overall it is the best experience when you want to have something intimate with your friends or your partner or your family it makes the road trip down to Milford Sound very entertaining, even though it is a long drive but with a great tour guide and a small group of people it is really fun, enjoyable and doesn’t feel boring at all. I highly recommend cheeky kiwi travel, not just for Milford Sound but for any tours/activities, they are wonderful hosts and we are so impressed. Big thanks to Kreig for being an amazing tour guide and making our experience 10 times more fun.

Leave the rental car at home & take a small group tour instead. The day was a rainy one but the experience was well worth it, affordable & a breathtaking must do for anyone wanting a fun, educational and relaxing trip to Milford sound. With some beautiful stops along the way (that you may have blinked and missed on a self-drive), the tour ensures to incorporate the beautiful sights & sounds of Aotearoa with an enjoyable and immensely educational narrative. Our guide, Lance, was excellent, friendly, passionate & down to earth - with knowledge of everything from the native birds, Maori legends, lake geography, flora, fauna, livestock, funny stories & local recommendations - you could tell he both lives & loves the area & all it has to offer. A bonus that we all felt completely safe with his driving through some quite difficult terrain to the stunning Milford. The boat cruise was wonderful too but sadly no dolphin or penguin sightings either. Unfortunately, if you want to stop off at the underwater observatory this isn't an inclusion of this particular tour.

Had a great day to Milford Sound thanks to these guys. Very nice to experience Milford Sound in a small group, makes it a very personalized experience. Our guide told us that the boat operator they use, only sells half of the seats so that people can really enjoy the boat trip. Besides that, you make some beautiful stops on the way from Queenstown and the guide gives a lot of cool info while driving.
Thank you guys for this great trip!

After reading the consistently good reviews for Cheeky Kiwi Travel, I booked with them two tours from Queenstown for two of the NZ (and the world’s) wonders - Milford Sound & Aoraki/Mt. Cook for the end of October. Little did I know our family of three was up for a very special treat. As magnificent views of lakes, green hills and valleys dotted by sheep and playful little lambs started rolling out the van’s window, our guide Shane would tell us relevant historic, geological, and cultural bits and legends with a fresh upbeat tone on the background of peaceful, traditional Maori music (or other, based on guests’ preferences). He himself a seasoned traveler who has visited 70+ countries and stays curious, Shane was a source of abundant knowledge and good practical advice with easy going demeanor, complementing and helping us experience NZ at its best. We learned about NZ’s conservation efforts, its history and traditions, the local ecosystem and animals, as well as where the best burger in town really is. Everyone in our small group had a chance to introduce themselves and say a few words about places they liked the most adding to the travel excitement.
The weather during our Milford sound tour was sunny and we were able to walk around and admire the stunning mountain peak reflections in Mirror and Gunn lakes before he seamlessly transferred us to the Milford cruise for more breathtaking fjord and waterfalls views. Petting the friendly and fluffy alpacas was an unexpected and memorable bonus along the way. On the way back we quietly listened to the Maori legends Shane enthusiastically told. Highly recommend these trips (would give 10-stars if possible) and wish everyone an excited and encyclopedic guide like Shane!

So when it says that they return you to the point of departure at the end of the tour does that mean all the hotels and listed stops that they picked up people from or the place where the the boat departs from?

How can I get from Christchurch to Queenstown for this trip?
Krista K

We did that trip but in reverse: Queenstown to Christchurch. We drove and I would highly recommend this as there are so many amazing things to do along the way. The Hooker Valley track would be the highest on our list. An easy walk alongside a river and with scenery of Mt Cook and glaciers- which ends at an inland lake with icebergs! We did stay a night in Lake Tekapo which is about halfway so that we had the time to stop whenever we wanted but you could easily drive it in one day.

Hi!
We just booked this tour but we never saw an option to upgrade to the “mitre” cruise. Is this option still available? We’re going on this cruise for our honeymoon!
Thank you in advance!

Hi
It certainly use to be available, we went on the mitre tour which is slightly more exclusive however its not going to make a big difference to your day - the other boat looked fine and was only slightly bigger. Avoid the orange boat which was massive.
Check if you have a packed lunch included so you know.
