          Little Penguins are a Must!
The penguins were super cute and the tour guides were really engaging and friendly - don't miss out! It was quite windy and a bit chilly when I went, but they have wind guards on the viewing platforms which made it a lot more enjoyable :)

          Loved it!
The talk about the penguins and the history of the Peninsula was informative and engaging for all ages. We saw 45 - 50 penguins up close. Lifelong dream ✅️ You can see them coming out of the sea from part of viewing platform then you swap over with other half of group to see them going into their burrows. Loved it and would highly recommend.

          A must do in Dunedin!
Amazing evening! Such a clear, close up view of wild penguins - unlike anything I’d experienced before. We received a really engaging talk - giving us a chance to learn more about the reserve and the history of the area. The friendly team were more than happy to answer any questions we had throughout the evening and hot chocolate warmed us up on the chilly May evening!

          Really enjoyed our night out
We had a lovely experience, the guides were knowledgeable and passionate about these little guys. We saw a number of them come up the beach. The setup is really good and plenty of room for everyone to see the Penguins.

Amazing experience, you can see the penguins very close! The guides from the charity were very knowledgeable and provided an informative talk prior to the tour. Made our trip down to Dunedin worth it! Definitely worth the money which goes to the charity.

          An experience to remember
Great evening, interesting introduction, then walk to the viewing area, a little patience and then the penguins came in. Penguins the real stars but the guides were really good too, made sure we all had a good view, gave us information and even biscuits.

Excellent introductory talk, then a walk to see the penguins come ashore. A little patience needed, then they started to come in. Such a privilege to see such a lovely sight. The penguins were so sweet and close to us. The guides were with us all the time making sure we had a good view, giving us information and even biscuits!

          Blue Penguins Return!
Blue Penguins Pukekura penguin preserve is a joint venture between the Otago Peninsula & Korako Karetai Trusts. Our guide Hayden was a 5th generation Korako Karetai. He was very knowledgeable of the plants & birds on the way to the Peninsula. Upon arrival, we went to the walkway overlooking the cliffs looking for albatross. There was a short presentation and then they took us down to the beach and saw the penguins come out of the water.

Absolutely incredible experience! Almost cried with joy seeing the Kororā come up and walking to their nests. Very knowledgeable staff too. A must see in Dunedin, but make sure to book in advance to see these amazing taonga species as the tours book out fast!

          Magical evening with the penguins
Our evening with Blue Penguins Pukekura was fantastic. When we pulled up to the centre, the albatross were wheeling about overhead, which was beautiful to see. Once inside, we were given a talk about the penguins and the history of the area while we waited for the sun to set. It was really interesting and added some fascinating context to the rest of the evening. Once you head down to the shoreline (down many stairs - be prepared for the return trip up), we found a spot on the viewing platform and after about 10 minutes saw our first penguin (and a seal!). We visited right around moulting season, which means less penguins that at other times of the year, but we still saw about 3 different groups (or "rafts" as we learnt) come in. It was a magical experience watching them swimming in, waddling up the shore, and hanging around with each other 'socialising' outside their burrows. Our guides were on hand to explain what they were doing and answer any questions, and they made sure we all got a chance to get closer to where the penguins were. This is a well run operation and a really worthy conservation cause to spend your time and money on - I would really recommend it!

          A true highlight!
ADORABLE!!! I was sorta nudging my friends to come to Dunedin with me to visit my friend on our whirlwind NZ trip, and found this adventure. I think my friends said yes to humor me, BUT at the end of our trip (Queenstown/Dunedin/Wellington/Auckland) they felt this adventure was a true highlight! Educational and well... breath taking watching these beauties emerge from the waters.

If you are in Dunedin you need to do this tour! Jonathon and Hayden were top notch hosts and very knowledgeable. As it was the moulting season for the penguins we only saw around 10 but I would have been happy with 1! Wrap up warm though as the wind goes right through you!

We had an amazing time and were so glad that we booked the in-depth tour! We were visiting family in Dunedin and were excited to see the penguins, but the tour turned out to be so much more. We loved seeing the peninsula and all of its amazing landscapes and wildlife before heading to watch the blue penguins at dusk. Seeing the penguins was incredible and we were fortunate to have a beautiful evening with an clear sunset, so got some great photos. A highly recommended tour!

Our guide, James, was very knowledgeable and helpful. We saw many different birds on our way to view the blue penguins on the Otaga peninsula. The highlight was seeing the penguins come ashore at dusk to return to their nests. Amazing! The only downside was rain and wind the evening we chose.

This was a wonderful experience. James, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable. We saw the tiny blue penguins, of course, but also sea lions and dozens of other birds, including albatross. Being so close to the penguins without feeling like we were negatively impacting them was incredible.

Eat dinner before you go, plan for a late evening (we got dropped off around 10:30), and dress warmly. It’s very well worth it!

Absolutely fantastic tour our driver Jonathan was very knowledgeable about Dunedin's history and its wonderful culture. He also gave us a fascinating insight to all the bird and plant life that exist in the local ecosystem. Then you finish the night with learning about the penguins and seeing them come up the beach and you get so close to them! Honestly a once in a lifetime experience would fully recommend if your in Dunedin to do this tour!!

The experience was amazing. The weather didn’t cooperate, but the penguins did. The staff was extremely knowledgeable. They were friendly and professional, and the work they’re doing to protect the penguins and the Otago Peninsula is amazing. I would highly recommend that everyone go if you’re in the area.
