Monarch has taken customer service to a new level!!

Last August i booked three places on the City to Sea tour through one of the on-line booking agencies. In November the agency emailed me cancelling the booking saying Monarch were 'no longer running on that day.'
So last week whilst in Dunedin, i was in the I-Centre and to my surprise saw the same tour advertised. To cut a long story short, i phoned Monarch who told me the agency had cancelled the booking saying the customer (me) had cancelled!!. So although the cancellation was through no fault of their own, Monarch put on a special "City to Sea"trip for the three of us. How incredible is that??
So with the boat to ourselves, we enjoyed the most amazing trip out to see the sea life and in particular the Albatrosses. What a wonderful sight they were. In the strong winds, the birds were having a wonderful time gliding over the headland Truly a wonderful spectacle.
Thanks to Buddy and Tim for their hosting us on the boat and to Monarch as a whole for their unbelievable level of customer service. Thank you so much.

We cannot recommend the City to Sea Tour enough! We had a wonderful time travelling by minibus with David along the peninsula. David was incredibly knowledgeable and we learned so much about the local area from him. Then, we enjoyed an unforgettable experience watching Northern Royal, Southern Royal and White-Capped Albatross from the boat. We'd also highly recommend the City to Sea Tour as we enjoyed a relaxing journey back to the city by boat along with Buddy's commentary and Elliott's service. We must also thank Elliott for all his generous recommendations on the best places to eat locally - thank you! All in all, a fantastic way to spend an afternoon in Dunedin and see all the amazing local wildlife.

My wife and I both really enjoyed the Sea 2 City tour. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the local history, environment and wildlife. It wasn't an ideal day to see the albatross (low wind conditions) but every effort was made to ensure we weren't disappointed by encountering as much wildlife as possible including; sea lions, seals, and a variety of seabird species. At the end of our journey we felt we'd received great value for money and based on our experience would (and have) highly recommend this trip to others.

The wind really helps when it comes to albatross viewing, we normally have plenty of it! Light winds generally provide great cruising conditions. Thank you for joining us and leaving an awesome review.

Nigel was our captain and was amazing. He knew his job pilotting, but was also an amazing bird specialist. We saw many species of Shags(Cormorants), blue and yellow-eyed penguins, terns, fur seals, petrels and the treat of the day the Royal Albatross both flying, walking and on the nest. For a 2 hour tour this trip was so packed with viewings and I would do it again in a moment. The tour guides also had binoculars for those not having them, rain coats in case of weather and nice coffee and tea with cookies. I would book directly if ever I came back thru Trip Advisor rather than doing the Cruise line tour because they jack the price up, but still worth every cent!!!

From the moment we were collected from the hotel in the Monarch bus we were given a great commentary by the driver of Dunedin. On arrival at the boat we were treated so very well. The talk by the skipper was first class and Olivia was very helpful
A definite trip to go on
Highly recommend.

Amazing adventure with Monarch Cruises, very professional and helpful right through from initial enquiry to the end of day bus drop off. We were hesitant about weather but Chris suggested to wait til latest possible to check the weather and suggest best day for us to tour. It was fabulous and the wildlife was extraordinary. Aaron did a brilliant commentary, he and Pete are clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the Albatross and other species. I saw a couple of little blue penguins ducking and diving, that was a treat, very happy

My friends and I had a lovely time aboard the Monarch.
We were treated to a calm spring afternoon on the harbour with a great running commentary from Nigel the skipper and fabulous crew Trudy and Aaron who were there to answer our queries and point out wildlife and landmarks on our way. They went out of their way to to ensure we were comfortable, providing us with warm jackets and binoculars and complimentary tea and coffee.
We saw various sea birds and seals and had a very special sighting of the royal albatross chicks in their nests at Taiaroa Head albatross colony testing their wings in the breeze and getting ready to take their much anticipated first flights.
Bring warm clothes and a hat as well as sunscreen.

The combination of the land trip to Tairoa on the south side of the peninsula, the Tairoa tour, the hoiho visit, the Tairoa head crise and back down the harbour was the best ever trip. The guides were knowledgable and made the trip all fit together especially well. Thoroughly recomend it.

Thanks Judy, it sounds like you chose the City to Sea Tour + Penguin Place. It is such a good choice for seeing the best of Dunedin's rare and unique wildlife. Glad you had a good time with us!

Rob our guide for the first part of the trip and was great and picked me up from my hotel. We drove through the countryside to Wellers Rock to get our boat. There were sea lions, fur seals, albatrosses, penguins and lots of other birds to be seen. The sea was a bit choppy but I am ok with that but bear that in mind if you get seasick as the boat pitches and rolls quite a lot. Do it but take a seasickness tablet! The wildlife tour was followed by a leisurely (and calmer) cruise along the harbour. A great way to spend an afternoon and great to see wildlife in it’s natural habitat.

Some great advice there Kate, we also recommend motion sickness medication for people concerned about some ocean rock and roll. It sounds like the wildlife was out in force, despite the conditions. Thank you for coming out with us.
