Great guide always makes a great and informative tour. Highly recommend this tour. Well worth the price. Tim was extremely helpful in the way he accommodated approximately 40 persons on the tour.

          Great tour
Amazing tour, it was the highlight of our NZ trip. The town and area are beautiful, the guide was knowledgeable and fun, we had plenty of time to see the castle, town and other attractions along the way. It was a small group so it almost felt like a private tour. Highly recommending it, especially over generic cruise line tours.

Great tour and loved being in a small group
Very extensive tour of Dunedin! Our guide, Ollie, was extremely knowledgeable, very patient, and professional. He treated us all like good friends, who he wanted to welcome to Dunedin and to have the best experience possible. He even added an extra stop at the beach, because the weather was good.

A wonderful way to see Dunedin! Horizon Tours took us to see all the major sites, in depth commentary along the way, and gave us ample time to visit each. One of my favorite tours to date.

A great tour. Pick up from the cruise terminal with 5 other couples. James was kind, informative and helpful throughout and we got to see all that Dunedin had to offer. Many thanks.

Great small personalised tour. Our tour guide, James, is such a gentleman and really looks after you. You will see Larnach Castle and the city sights. Take the challenge and walk up Baldwin street. Views are beautiful. Highly recommend this tour and company!

Wow! A castle where you wouldn't expect one.
Dunedin tour was nice, the Dunedin railway station architecture is magnificent. We walked up Baldwin Street the steepest street in the world. Toured the city with historical architecture. The Larnach Castle has a surprise history from original construction to total abandonment to reconstruction continuing present day. The gardens and views are also worthwhile.

          10/10 highly recommend!
Had such a blast in Dunedin with James as our tour guide. I was travelling solo and felt so comfortable and accommodated for. The tour was with a small group of 8 people which was great because we were all able to ask questions and find out heaps of information about each of our stops. The weather wasn’t great but it didn’t matter because James made up for it with his knowledge and enthusiasm 😄 After finishing my trip in NZ this was definitely my favourite tour. Highly recommend, thank you so much!!!

Memorable Taste of Dunedin & Albatrosses & Monarch Cruise - So Happy We Did It!!
Dunedin was the last stop of our month-long exploration of New Zealand, a stop I added partly because Horizon Tours' Star Gazing tour really captured my imagination. Well, despite Kylie's best efforts, the weather did not cooperate with us. Bummer. BUT, we had also signed up for their Taste of Dunedin tour with Royal Albatross Centre and Monarch cruise and that wonderful day with our guide James was a stand-out tour of our entire vacation. James showed us his beautiful adopted city of Dunedin and our tours of the Albatross Centre watching several albatrosses soaring at eye-level was an experience we'll remember and the cruise was packed with scenery and wildlife. James was most concerned and caring for a mobility issue one of us was having, and with his gentle support my wife and I were both able to enjoy every experience. He also subtly guided us to the best seats on the Monarch and made sure we were comfortable and had binoculars. What really made our day so memorable was our conversations with James on a wide range of topics, including the most in-depth discussions of Māori history & culture that we had experienced (and wanted!) Those conversations led to a feeling of friendship that has left us a wonderful memory of our time in New Zealand. And thanks again to Kylie who I think was disappointed as us that we could not meet and discuss the Māori night sky. If the reader is in Dunedin (and we highly recommend including it in your NZ itinerary), absolutely look at Horizon Tours for memorable experiences.

          Fun Tour with Great Guide
We felt we had gotten to know this beautiful area after spending the day with our guide, James. He did a splendid job of making us feel welcome, right down to learning each of our names. Our van was comfortable with large windows that did justice to the magnificent views we encountered. Larnach Castle was interesting and the countryside memorable for its beauty. The town of Dunedin had a homey charm we appreciated and the locals are extremely amiable. But James made the tour with his friendliness and quick humor - we could have hung out with him for days. Recommended!

          Incredible!
The Castle was incredible! The whole tour was actually, but the highlight was the castle! The trek up the steepest road in the world was challenging, but the views were spectacular! Absolutely recommend this tour!

The castle and the gardens were beautiful. Also bought and enjoyed lunch there. Driver was excellent. Enjoy small groups rather than large bus tours.

From the moment I was picked up I felt like I was travelling with family. As a family based company their hospitality is warm and embracing.

Kylie shared so much of her knowledge and shared her stories that brought the entire experience to life.

The journey to the star gazing spot was filled with anecdotes and stories of the land and its people.

Once at the special spot I lay back on the chairs and marvelled at the sight above. Never have I ever experienced the stars the way Kylie brought them to life. And never have I ever seen so many. You feel like you’re part of the galaxy with stars around you.
Where Greek, Maori or European, Kylie knew the stories of the stars. And we saw all of them on such a clear and amazing night.
She ensures everyone is warm and kept fed with light snacks.

This is a must do experience and one you will remember for a very long time.

An absolute MUST while here on the South Island! Our family of 8,thank you to the amazing Kylie our hostess tour guide, shared an evening under the stars that will live our hearts forever. Kylie is a wealth of knowledge, has the singing voice that stirs your soul and makes education fun! Her families proud Māori heritage is shared with her guests. Amazing! What an awesome experience. Kylie's knowledge and passion for the night sky is outstanding. Pair this with fantastic story telling interweaving the stars with a maori cultural narrative and you're set.

The comfort factor was also esquisite 👌 From the all-the-way-back chairs to being tucked into blankets and fed delights including artisanal snacks, a cheeseboard and hot drinks. How good!

On our night the clouds and moon weren't playing ball but it really didn't matter. I'd go in the day 😁

This was a fantastic experience going out onto the peninsula. I was lucky with a clear night and you could see an array of stars. They do a great job of making you feel comfortable and warm (with snacks!) and tell you about both the science and the cultural stories and history of the stars. Dunedin must-do!

We give our very highest, 5 stars, thumbs up rating to Kylie's Southern Skies Stargazing Tour in Dunedin. Kylie is an absolutely wonderful host and storyteller. From the moment she picked us up at our hotel and drove us out to our stargazing spot out away from town, we felt pampered, safe, and cared for like family. We loved the peaceful, tranquil setting. Kylie set up reclining chairs for us and tucked us in with blankets, a scrumptious snack box, and warm drinks like coffee and hot cocoa. As we waited for the skies to clear, Kylie regaled us with both the science and the Maori legends of the stars and the creation of the universe, pointing out constellations and planets with her laser pointer. Kylie is a captivating storyteller with a gorgeous singing voice. We were lucky that the skies eventually cleared and we were treated to a stunning view of the southern night sky and the Milky Way, but we would have been happy with the experience even if the skies had remained cloudy. Please don't miss out on this wonderful experience. Thank you Kylie!

This was such a fantastic experience. All day it had rained in Dunedin with low cloud but around 7pm the sky cleared and we had the most magical night on the Otago peninsula. (I feel like Kylie had a direct line to the weather gods!) Kylie and Lyndon are so interesting, knowledgeable and friendly. I loved the Maori legends and Kylie sang the most beautiful waiata. We were so well looked after with drinks, snacks and blankets. This definitely was the highlight of my road trip around the South Island. Highly recommend this trip.

I was picked up by Kylie on a pretty cloudy Dunedin evening and couldn't believe I was the only one booked on the trip! So refreshing to know that this company don't have a minimum number in order for the trip to go ahead.

The drive out to where the stargazing was to take place was really scenic, with a few stops on the way to admire the views, spot seals and sealions along with all the bird life too. When we got to the stargazing spot, Kylie got me all cosied up with fleecy blankets and a really comfy chair. Plus a selection of hot drinks and some tasty snacks too.

Sadly, the sky wasn't working in my favour that night and it was too cloudy to see any of the stars, other than Venus (a planet, not a star!). I was gutted as if I'd booked the night before, the sky was completely clear and it would have been an awesome star gazing experience.

Despite not seeing any stars, I thoroughly enjoyed my few hours with Kylie - a truly wonderful, open and friendly person - I feel very blessed to have met her. I was also offered a full refund because we didn't get to see any stars. I declined the refund as I had such a good time regardless.

Do this trip if you can!

Fantastic! 2 tours of the night sky for the price of one - both the from the scientific perspective & the Maori .
Everything little detail thought about, we were so comfortable and warm. Our hosts were wonderful, very knowledgeable and entertaining.
It was lovely to get a night time trip along up the Otago Peninsula to their deserted viewing spot. To hear the sea and get lost in the huge night sky was our most memorable trip in our holiday to New Zealand - it's a must!

This was a highlight of our recent trip to Dunedin. Kylie and Lyndon picked us up from a convenient location in the city and welcomed us warmly. We made a few stops on the way to our stargazing destination so we could learn about the geological record, flora & fauna and Maori legends of Otago Harbour.

Our final destination was a dramatic and beautiful part of the Otago peninsula and we settled into super comfortable chairs, wrapped up in fluffy blankets and warmed with hot soup and rolls. With partial cloud cover, we didn't see a complete clear sky. But both Kylie and Lyndon made the whole evening really interesting and entertaining with astronomic facts and amazing Maori mythology, including very beautiful and moving waiata from Kylie...perfect for the ethereal surroundings.

We will definitely repeat this tour and recommend anyone who is even vaguely interested in stargazing to spend an evening with Kylie and Lyndon.
