About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- SilverKiwi0 contributionsMoa Tours - High Country Stations, Gardens and GoldfieldsThis was a well planned and superb tour visiting several high country stations including Homebush, Erewhon, Orari Gorge, Orari Estate, Four Peaks, Station Peak and Linlithgow Farm. The visit to Sutherland's Hut at Four Peaks Station was my favourite where a most delicious lunch was served from a basic facility, kilometres from anywhere. I enjoyed every aspect of the tour and it was nice to meet the owners at each stop and hear about their properties. After travelling over spectacular Danseys Pass, it was a treat to stop at the Danseys Pass Hotel for a refreshment. Stanley's Hotel at Macraes Flat provided a superb lunch in an historic building. All the meals and accommodation were very good. Our driver/guide Graeme was excellent and nothing was any trouble for him.Written 6 March 2024
- jeffgS5757ZL0 contributionsCredit Card ScamThis place is a scam!!! They cancelled the night before our tour and refused to reimburse my payment via voice mail and email. Tried to cont them multiple times via phone and email. They said I needed to provide my bank account information even though they had my credit card. I had to open a dispute with my bank. Fortunately it was resolved. Buyer Beware!Written 24 March 2023
- Yukosu0 contributionsA Great day tour to Aoraki-Mt Cook National ParkWe joined Ariaki-Mt Cook Tasman Glacier & Alpine Centre scenic day tour from Christchurch operated by Maossie Tours. It was really a marvelous experience. We were so impressed by our driver and guide Gary’s insightful explanations about the nature, local businesses and industries, and most interesting thing was overview on Māori culture in New Zealand. Also he was so kind and well organized that we enjoyed his heartfelt hospitality such as a lovely welcome pack, nice morning and afternoon tea, lunch with a gorgeous view. The mini-coach which took us on a journey was not only comfortable but also luxurious; it was equipped with Wi-Fi and USB charging that was very helpful for travelers from abroad and don’t have NZ smartphones. Walking near the Tasman Glacier was one of the unforgettable memories of this attractive tour.Written 7 January 2023
- Inspiration5750700 contributionsExcellent, Enriching and Educational experience! Best Tour ever.Dr. Gary & Nicole Turner made every effort for a pleasant experience for our family. We had a fantastic time on the tour and best tour we have taken in NZ. We wanted a customized package given the short timeframe (10-12hrs) in Christ church with limited flexibility. Most of the other prefixed tours begin early morning at 8:30am or earlier. Maossie Tours worked around our schedule to design the splendid day around Christchurch. Dr. Gray welcomed us warmly addressing us with first names. He is amazing, my teens connected with him instantly. He picked us up one hour earlier than scheduled as our flight reached on time and took us to morning tea at local joint! Wonderful place. After that we stopped at Hill top viewpoint of the crater. Akaroa Pohatu penguin safari tour (2hrs) - loved it! then to Alpaca farm. Gary knew the business owners so well & such wonderful people. We went to French Peak farm for wine tasting. Best experience meeting and engaging with new owners. Dr. Gary & Nicole arranged Cheese charcuteire board to pair with the wines (as the new owners were waiting on food license). What a warm gesture! Dr. Gary is so knowledgeable about the local Māori Culture (being a descendant), he educated us on the culture, language, lifestyle, traditions. Maossie Tour transport is clean, equipped with Wi-Fi, USB ports at every seat, drinks (Soft), water, snacks, and any cable to connect laptops and great music choice. Dr. Gary is himself well travelled and him / his partner/friend as he described Nicole as have a great choice of music. He played a fantastic educational video about Māori culture. It was both enriching and excellent tour! Highly recommend!Written 4 December 2022
- hms220 contributionsLoved it. Fabulous Tour.I absolutely loved this tour. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting to see this amazing place and learn more about the history and culture of NZ and the local Canterbury area. There are lots of extra touches that made it special such as the welcome pack when you get on board, wifi, lovely music, morning and afternoon tea, and comfortable seats. The views are absolutely amazing with plenty of stops along the way for photos and the lunch at the Hermitage was beautiful. Gary and Nicole were wonderful hosts. Thank you.Written 6 November 2022
- gwendyandclive0 contributionsNo show and dissapointedGot a stock standard email to wait outside at 8:10am but half an hour later, driver did not turn up for pickup despite numerous calls, it went straight into voicemail. Correspondence a month prior was also also not answered, and a text the night before the tour was also not answered as well.Written 30 July 2021
- jimlynette20170 contributionsAlmost a private tourGary is a real character. His stories bring to life not only his own family history and whakapapa but also the history of the area and its peoples. We were the only travellers on our trip but Gary just turned it into our very own private tour. Unfortunately there were severe gusts in banks peninsula so the dolphin tour couldn’t happen. Gary offered us every alternative, and we chose a complete tour of the side of banks peninsula that doesn’t get many visitors. The old tiki tiki panelled church and the Maori and colonial museum were excellent and we had already enjoyed quite a few tasters at the Akaroa winery. Great day. I would recommend Maossie tours.Written 2 June 2021
- HermitVisit0 contributionsVery enjoyable dayHaving lived in the South Island of NZ all our lives, neither of us had been to the Hermitage or Tasman Glacier before. We had driven through the area and knew something of it, but the commentary Gary shared on many of the places we passed by was new to us and very interesting. It was great to sit back and and enjoy the beautiful scenery.Written 11 May 2021
- 663gilliank0 contributionsAtrocious serviceI booked this your more than 2, weeks in advance. Just before 5 pm on the day before the trip I called the company yo confirm my pick up point the next morning. I was then told trip had been cancelled. One reason being that I was only one booked for the trip. This is unacceptable. One wonders what would have happened if I had not called.Written 20 April 2021
- joyfilled7770 contributionsDelightful day tourA friend and I booked a day tour for a first ever visit to Akaroa & Bank's Penninsula. We chose the Pohatu Penguin Tour and although these little penguins were out to sea visiting their breeding grounds was still amazing! It was a wonderful day hosted by Gary our Tour Leader and Driver. We learned so much about the area and covered history, geology, culture and visited places we never would have known about, found on our own or had the energy to drive to. It was well paced, informative and generous morning & afternoon tea stops and lunch. A perfect day! Highly recommended!Written 28 March 2021
- leydya20210 contributionsAmazing eco-safari day tourThis was such a lovely experience! Gary was very kind, friendly and he made sure we enjoyed every activity scheduled as well as the lookouts. What an amazing day full of animals and scenic landscapes!Written 12 January 2021

- Schmerly0 contributionsGreat DayWe had a great tour in the Aoraki-Mt Cook area with Gary from Maossie Tours. Gary is very friendly and knowledgeable, and took great care of us throughout the day. Though the weather wasn't the best, and Mt Cook itself was shy all day, we had a very pleasant day seeing great lakes and glaciers, hearing about the history of the region, and visiting small towns in rural New Zealand. I recommend it highly, because you get to see this part of the country close up, and you can take in the stunning views as Gary drives.Written 8 December 2020
- zyz00 contributionsAbsolutely AmazingThe best and amazing tour I’ve ever had. I’m glad that I took this trip when I went to Christchurch. Gary (who is a Maossie) will welcome you on board with warm and open hearts, a very friendly and super nice guide. I’m very grateful that they still run the tour even if I’m just the only passenger they have, I felt comfortable all throughout the tour and the best part is all meals (from morning tea-lunch-afternoon tea) are already included. What I love about this trip is it feels like we just went on a cool roadtrip (to Geraldine-Lake Tekapo-Lake Pukaki-Aoraki Mount Cook-Tasman Glacier) where I get a chance to see the uniqueness of some township. Highly recommended tour.Written 29 November 2020
- 729rainel0 contributionsGreat one day trip with amazing viewsThe Maossie Tours are very friendly, dedicated and professional, I was given hand sanitizer and snacks the moment I stepped into the Van, their van is super comfy with wifi and charging USB ports, and videos and music along the way. Gary is very knowledgeable and friendly guide and it has been a pleasant experience to hear all the history surrounding the region. The views along the way are absolutely stunning to see across a varied landscape, I had a great day enjoying the views especially on the 15 min and walking track to see the glaciers and lakes. The tour is Perfect for those to wish to travel to see Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo to tick off your bucket list, highly recommended.Written 13 November 2020

A huge thank you to Nichole and Gray for such an amazing and personalised tour! They are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They were able to show us the hidden gems of the area that we would have missed if we tried to do this ourselves. Could not recommend this tour enough.

We enjoyed the trip beginning to end. Both Gary and Nicole were welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. The food was excellent at every stop, and with prior notice, they carefully addressed the dietary limitations one of us had. We learned a great deal and had an even better day!

A must do tour and a great day out if you are staying in Christchurch. The scenic route along the banks peninsula and the lakes on the way are awesome. Pohatu Penguins tour was the highlight of the tour. Checking out the penguins was a unique experience and Kudos to the nature conservationists.

Right from the warm welcome till the goodbye part, they made sure their guests are comfortable & well fed :) My little one had a great time and never felt a bit tired and loved the entire trip. The eco-tour to see wild penguins is one of our most popular tours. Just one person, or a whole full bus full: either way we treasure our passengers!

What a wonderful experience! Gary and Nicole are fantastic guides and all-around really nice people. They are both very knowledgable about the area and it’s history. The coach is very comfortable and the details of the day are thoughtful and well planned: from a welcome package when you climb aboard to well-timed “comfort” stops at interesting locations to delicious fresh food at tea and lunch. Gary even has Maori ancestry and gives great insight into the culture. Additionally, the scenery on the tour was incredible, Akoroa is a beautiful town, and the penguin portion of the tour was fun and informative (bonus - you can pet and feed sheep along the way!). Very highly recommended!

My sister and I felt very well taken care of on the Akaroa and Banks Peninsula Wild Penguins Eco Tour. Gary and Nicole were lovely, friendly and attentive guides. The tour bus was very comfortable and we were very well fed throughout the day. Beautiful scenery, interesting stops including an isolated and fascinating museum. The penguin tour was great. We were able to see the penguins up close. I have no hesitation in recommending this Maossie Tours.

I spent the last day of my three day trip to Christchurch here and it was a great decision! I was surprised and delighted by how intimate the tour was... it's a very comfortable tour bus and conversation with the drivers and other passengers was easy. A great way to see some of the gorgeous natural scenery of Christchurch and a close-up look at some penguins. Definitely do this tour and/or any other Maossie Tour available. You won't regret it :)

This was an excellent day out with a great local tour company. I’d highly recommend Maossie Tours and would have no hesitation in returning for another day trip. Nicole and Gary were friendly and very professional tour guides - they had clearly thought carefully about the itinerary and the day worked perfectly.
Our luxury transport was the best I’ve ever experienced (free onboard WiFi and phone/camera charging points at every seat) - as was the food including a delicious lunch and also morning and afternoon teas including cakes, pastries and a few Easter eggs! Well done and thank you Nicole and Gary - I will return!!

Had a fantastic time with tour guides Nicole and Gary who treated us like whanau (family) from the welcome pickup at our motel up until the goodbye hugs at the end. The views of Akoroa and surrounding landscapes were breathtaking and spectacular (make sure you have a camera!) with excellent commentary from Gary and although the Okaina museum was closed (Good Friday) Nicole and Gary made up for it by taking us to a tranquil picnic table setting amongst the trees with fantails dancing around us for a scrumptious lunch. The visit to Flea Bay Marine reserve with Mark from Pohatu Penguins was awesome and we hand fed the sheep and watched as a blue penguin that was being rehabilitated was fed and taken to the creek for a swim. Next time I am in Christchurch I would take another tour with Nicole and Gary in a heartbeat. Such a beautiful, warm, friendly couple.
