Do it
Jul 2020
A must do. Despite it being school holidays and just coming out of lockdown, the staff were all calm, did a really good job, were very informative, were so friendly and are alone really incredible without the experience the centre provides.

The dogs were cute, were really looked after and good with everyone. The dog we saw was having a wee nap on the floor and looked like it was living its best life. We were lucky to not only see the penguins being feed but we purchased a backstage penguin. The girl Ally was very informative, helpful and was really patient.

Was worth the money and was good that everything was included in the price (eg. the ticket got you on the haglund, entry into the centre, spend as long as you like, see the 4D movie, got to see the feeding of the penguins.

Totally worth the money
We had a fantastic three hours here with our 12 and 15 year old. Watched the little blue penguins being fed at 10.30am then the highlight was the ride on the Haaglund. So much fun! The 4D movie was cool. The snow storm was freaky. The information available was interesting and informative. So much to do. It was all so well done. Highly recommend to all.

Antarctic center but not much antartic
Apr 2021 • Family
Got a book me deal for 100 family pass , best part of the visit was the haglund ride which takes you out back on a course . 2nd best was patting the Huskies. I feel there could have been way more information about Antartica there , it felt like just a few attractions thrown together. The 4d movie experience is great but would be heaps better if if was showing scenes from antartica ie riding in a haglund or sleigh ride with Huskies instead of the small foot movie . There could be way more information about the connection of Christchurch and Antartica and explanation of the surrounding buildings as it all looks pretty exciting. The staff are very friendly and helpful though. This is more aimed at small kids .

Absolutely Fabulous
Feb 2021
We arrived just in time for the morning feeding of the penguins. The custodian who was feeding them was very informative and amusing. She told us about the individual penguins and their personalities. She feed those who were happy to take fish from the water first before feeding those who were to nervous to do that. That included one little penguin who is scared of the water.

Primo Penguins!
Jan 2021
We bought a 'behind the scenes' tour with the penguins and it was wonderful. The handler gave us lots of information and whilst you can't handle the penguins you can get close in the 'hospital wing'. The whole place is magical - from walking in and stroking husky puppies, watching the penguins being fed, going behind the scenes.

Only one negative and that was the 4D experience - the seats and mechanics were VERY clunky and jolted suddenly - they need to upgrade the hydraulics!

Day trip to the arctic
Visited with friends. We got a free pickup and drop off with the arctic shuttle bus. Enjoyed the 3D cinema, the penguins in their habitat, got a quick cool down at their arctic storm simulator. And got some cute pics with their snow dogs. Had a quick bite at the cafe before we went home. Defenetly worth one visit :)

A Terrific Day on the Ice
Dec 2020
It had been years since I had gone to the Antarctic Centre, and to be honest I wasn't overly thrilled when my work colleague suggested we go there with two teenagers. I unexpectedly had a terrific day 'on the ice', and so did the teenagers - so much so that we are now looking at annual passes.

It started with the huskies who greeted us as we walked in. We spent quite a bit of time playing with the two pups and petting the dog and talking to 'Santa', who then invited us along to the snow room for photos with the huskies.

The snow room itself was a real upgrade over my first visit, and despite wearing shorts and no sleeves I managed to outlast most of the storm before surrendering. We had a blast taking the ice plunge challenge (thrusting our hands elbow-deep into icy cold water). The teens found lots to keep them interested, and loved the Hagglund so much that we took the ride twice.

They weren't as keen on the backstage penguin pass, and to be honest I'm glad I've done it - worthwhile doing once - but having done it there's little reason to do it again. The guide was lovely, though, and it was pretty cool seeing the rescue penguins up close. If it's been a while since you've been, I'd definitely suggest going.

Enjoyable
We enjoy this visit, the Hagglund vehicle ride was lots of fun and included in the price of admission. Watching the rescued penguins at feeding time is free but you can pay extra to be involved in feeding them.
The husky/malamoot puppies were lovely and just lay still and let you stroke them, their owner was right near to make sure they were OK, they also got taken away for breaks from interactions.
The snow room was fun too.
There's also a cafe on site although we didn't eat there.
It doesn't take too long to get around just a couple of hours at most.

Awesome Antarctic experience in Christchurch
We’re here just after Christmas and the place we’re crowded of those families with young children keen to visit this educational center. Indeed, the center really provided ultimate Antarctic Adventure. Very informative gallery full of history from Antarctic storm and 4D movie experience to fantastic hagglund ride witj obstacles course. Must try for the families with young children and young at heart😊
See it. Love it. Save it.

Great day out
Nov 2020
Very informative and great fun. Good variety of things to do and see. Very informative staff who were glad to share their knowledge.
Bit disappointed to miss huskies so check it's not their day off! Also cafe only opens at weekends currently - not too much of a problem as there's other facilities in walking distance.
