My husband and I decided the night before to book this activity online after spending a few days getting our daughter settled in Christchurch for her internship. We so need some fresh air, breathtaking views and to experience the beauty of New Zealand we saw from the airplane as we approached South Island. This excursion delivered on all fronts. We scheduled the 1:30pm time slot; it was a little warmer mid-day and the clouds had a chance to move out. Dolphins, penguins, various birds and a number of seals were spotted during our two hour cruise. Tip: best viewing spot is the front of the boat if you don’t mind the whipping wind and are steady on your feet; however, dress warmly and secure all personal items or put them in your backpack (i.e. sun hats and baseball caps or other loose clothing) due to the wind. Highly recommend!

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review of your recent Akaroa Day Tour from Christchurch. We agree that this tour is the perfect option for those who want to see more of this beautiful part of the country with it's tranquil settings and breathtaking scenery. The cruise itself is also a great way to view some of the local wildlife of the area including Hector's Dolphins, Little Blue Penguins, and New Zealand Fur Seals. Also thanks for your tips regarding the best viewing positions and what to bring when on the cruise. Always handy for travellers! A lovely day in Akaroa! Mark picked us up at the hotel and gave us a lovely narrative of Christchurch as he drove us to Akaroa. It was delightful to walk around the village and see the stunning views. We saw the dolphins, a blue penguin and lots of seals on the cruise. Amazing. Lunch at the Bully Hayes restaurant was great – we had some dietary restrictions which they willingly accommodated.

Thanks for the great review, Lynn. I'm happy you had such a nice time on your Akaroa Day Tour from Christchurch. It really is a beautiful location in the South Island which is often overlooked by tourists travelling through, so I'm pleased you got to spend a day in this awesome place. It's also great to hear that both Mark, your driver/guide, and the Bully Hayes Restaurant were so accommodating. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to them. Thanks again and I hope you get to visit Christchurch and Akaroa again soon!

Superb tour!
Picked up from hotel by tour guide Rodney who provided wonderful detailed description of all the principal points of interest on Arakoa Peninsula, and lots of photo stops. After reaching pretty town or Akaroa plenty time for coffee/lunch or shopping before the Black Cat Cruise. Not so much a harbour cruise which under sells the experience but estuary cruises with sightings of many Hectors dolphins, blue penguins and fur seals. Excellent commentary by captain

Thanks for the great review! I'm really glad you enjoyed your Akaroa Day Tour from Christchurch. Akaroa is a beautiful place to visit and the harbour itself is really stunning and hosts many of our native marine animals including Hector's Dolphins, New Zealand Fur Seals and Little Blue Penguins. It's also great that your trip was made all the more better thanks to your driver/guide, Rodney. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to him. As for your comments regarding the title "Harbour Cruise", it has been noted and we may look into using the official and much more aptly named "Nature Cruise"! Thanks again and I hope you return to Christchurch and Akaroa soon!

Nice day seeing sites and being on a boat viewing dolphins. They are interesting to watch. Lunch was ok, but not many options for vegetarians and nothing satisfying for vegans. The town where we had lunch was enjoyable to walk around. I'd say the tour is worth doing if you have the time. But if you have limited time, there are other highly rated tours from Christchurch that I would prioritize.

Thanks for the five star review and thanks for praising our office workers who were able to rectify your situation. Occasionally these things happen due to bad weather, not meeting minimum numbers, etc, and each time our team will help with either refunds or finding an alternative tour. I'm really glad that our team were able to find you a new activity and that you ultimately enjoyed your day with us despite the circumstances. I hope you had a nice time in New Zealand and get to visit us again soon!

booked the trip to find out that they could not do it because of low numbers - far enough. however they then offered to put me on another trip that was exactly the same for no extra charge sounded great. unfortunately they booked me a bus trip and a boat trip and ripped me off $172! not impressed they are a scam and if they were unable to provide a service should have said so instead of ripping me off!

The contents of this review are very disappointing as the contents are disingenuous at best. When the booking was received the customer was advised that the tour had not reached minimum numbers and that the booking was being held on a standby basis. As minimum numbers had not been reached by the day prior to the date of travel the customer was advised that we could offer an alternative day or she could cancel or we could arrange the same, identical tour with another operator. the customer opted to do the tour with another operator. The customer booked the tour through a third party online site, we do not know what the customer paid, however, we received a payment of $161.25 for the tour. From this we paid $79.00 for the harbour cruise and $60.00 to the other operator. You can do the maths. There is no scam or rip off and had we been contacted by the customer directly advising that she was unhappy with the alternative we provided we would have offered a partial refund, however, we were not contacted despite the customer obviously having our details. As this is an open forum you can judge for yourselves.

The drive into Akaroa is worth the trip by itself. We were picked up and returned to our lodge in Tai Tapu. Our guide was Hugo, and he was fantastic. He lives in Akaroa and was a wonderful ambassador for the city! He has a wealth of knowledge about the area. I get a little carried away with taking photos, but Hugo was very patient and went out of his way to accommodate me, often suggesting a good place for a better shot. The scenery breathtaking.

It was our last day in Christchurch and it was the best day there. Cally was the safest driver with huge information and very warm friendly personality. We spent whole day with cloudy, foggy, sunny and bit rainy weather that made our trip more memorable. It is a whole day and bit exhausting, but it is highly recommended. There were 3 stops for coffee with cake , lunch and coffee again at nice cafe and lodge with magnificent view.
Thank you Cally with the most unforgettable day!!!

Akaroa is the nearest sightseeing place from Christchurch. It takes a day. Have coffee in a coffee shop, look at the Pacific ocean and the hills on the other side.Very quite but exciting view of the harbor and the lunch near the lagoon.
And the saddest thing is that, going back to Christchurch and leave Akaroa.

Great package from Leisure Tours. Picked up and dropped off from our hotel. The drive to and from Akaroa is very scenic. Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Boat trip was fantastic, we saw penguins and dolphins. Lunch was great, however it took a long time, I would have preferred to spend the hour exploring Akaroa a bit more. Overall a great experience, I would recommend it.
