- 1Take in views over the city of Christchurch, damaged but recovering from the 2011 earthquake, and see all the way to the snowcapped Southern Alps and Canterbury Plains. As you rise more than half a mile (almost a kilometer) to the crater summit, the suburbs of Christchurch recede below you and panoramic views take in Lyttelton Harbour. From up here it’s easy to see how the harbor was formed by a collapsed volcanic crater. At the summit, ride the Discovery ride to see a video of Christchurch, its history, people and volatile geology. Enjoy a snack or meal at the Red Rock Cafe (not included), and browse the Shop at the Top retail experience. Add a Punt ride on the Avon River and glide along in a flat bottomed boat. Relax as a Punter, traditionally dressed in straw hat and blazer, propels you past a romantic setting of boat sheds, trees and riverside paths. See the wildlife float by, and be prepared for all weather with blankets and umbrellas provided.

- awaywegoFlorida0 contributionsTram Great Access to 18 Stops in TownPurchased an annual tram pass with gondola pass to use during a 6 day stay in town. Trams run frequently and provides access to 18 stops. Driver offers local information throughout the route. Stops are clearly marked. Pass included use of the Gondola ride out of town. There is a shuttle bus to the gondola for $15NZ round trip per person or public bus runs there. Trams are historic so seating is a bit cramped and requires big step on and off.Written 28 September 2024

Each tram driver delivers interesting commentary throughout the journey and we found them all to be informative, good natured and great representatives for this fine city. - Anwil510 contributionsGreat way to explore ChristchurchThis is a perfect way to explore Christchurch. The commentary is really good, the tram ride is fun in very old tramcars, and it covers all the main destinations - art gallery, art centre, markets etc. We did the complete circuit first then did stops on the second round.Written 21 July 2024
- H2903WCsteven0 contributionsA must do… restaurant tram could be even more funHave done this tram tour years ago and it continued not to disappoint with informative guides and good places to hop on and off to see the sights. Not sure why I gave it a four as can’t think of what else to say… less the frequency does seem erratic and we waited too long in the cold for one. Wrap up - not always shelter handy!Written 20 July 2024
- kattyc8990 contributionsGreat Vintage Tram experienceGreat way to view local city spots. Botanic garden was amazing. It was great experience with Vintage Tram. And you can get full day pass, if you have time you can go so many places using this.Written 14 July 2024

- andyk3990 contributionsToo ExpensiveBrilliant driver, she was a mine of fun information. Massively overpriced tho sadly/ It was raining heavily so we hopped on not knowing the ride. Several times around the world and lots of city tram rides. This ride should cost 13 of the price.Written 9 June 2024
- revuall0 contributionsA blast from the past and an easy way to explore ChristchurchWith our friends we enjoyed exploring Christchurch on these old trams - some originally from Sydney. The old advertising from yesteryear that was still in some carriages added to the charm. We first did a full lap of the city then returned top various locations we chose to get off at. The staff were friendly and informative, and all in all a memorable day was had.Written 8 June 2024

We didn't pre-book as we were unsure which day we would come. We arrived around 1.30pm on the friday before their long weekend and it wasn't very busy. We are a family of 4 and we found the family combo tickets to be worth while. We ended up getting the gondola and punting family combo. You do not have to do both activities on the same day.
The gondola rides are around 6 mins each way. At the top of the mountain, there are deck views as well as walk out views. The views are stunning even on a winter's day. My camera was not good enough to capture what my eyes could see.
The cafe is a nice place to rest your feet if you went for a bit of a walk around. Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable. It was a pity that the Time Tunnel has closed.

It was a great time minus the time travel part being closed. A nice lady employee in the gift shop helped us secure a reservation for a restaurant in Lyttleton before taking the bus further south. I appreciated her willingness to go above & beyond!

The Gondola ride was easy as expected. We arrived via 28 bus from Lyttleton. We bought the one way ticket and got up to the top. The trails were pleasantly mark. We took the Cradle Rim Trail all the way back into downtown Lyttleton. It was a much longer hike down than taking the Bridal Path and would recommend it if you prefer to get about 2-3 hours of hiking .

The gondola trip is most worthwhile. It gives a perspective over Christchurch and Lyttelton. Interesting walks and views. Best to make sure of the weather as it can be cold miserable and clouded in
Our trip was only partly obscured by scuffing sea mist. But warm and calm.
Views are excellent. The Red Rock Cafe served us good coffee and delicious date scones.

A nice relaxing ride on a perfect day. Great views, great staff, and I enjoyed the food at the top. The temperature at the top can be quite different to the bottom and a calm day at the bottom can be a cold easterly at the top. Jacket advised on any day.
Well worth the entry fee

The day we initiated our pass to hop on- hop off was very windy. Note that you need to schedule your punt excursion.
Finding the bus station takes a little doing, so allow yourself time to do that. We found the bus station where we were to meet bus #8, which did a little investigating, rode the bus out only to find the gondola not running. So pay attention to how windy it is because the gondola cannot safely run in very windy conditions.
Luckily, we immediately caught a bus back in time for our punt ride. The weather had drastically improved and we loved the sunny punt ride.

The gondola ride is very dramatic, with views of Christchurch and also of the sea port on the other side of the mountain. It was stormy and windy when we were there, so we didn't walk around as much as we would have liked. It is a great way to see the city.

Really enjoyed it - not a fan of heights but although we were high we weren't ever that far from the slope of the mountain. Fabulous views of a fabulous city. Joined a long queue for the Time Tunnel but it was a very short ride past some screens and displays and not really worth the wait! Really good cafe and gift shop, and fantastic views across the Banks Peninsular. Definitely worth it.

Fantastic 360⁰ views over city, coast & port. Much higher than Queenstown gondola with better views, facilities, clean windows in the gondolas!! & friendly staff in cafe and shop. Cafe prices were a surprise - sandwiches same price as New World & Countdown. Coffees cheaper than most other tourist spots! Great to see. We visited Sunday mid-arvo and is recommended.

Interesting outing although the actual gondola ride is a bit ho-hum but still good . The facilities at the top are excellent with friendly and knowledgeable staff in the gift shop and restaurant. The 'time tunnel' thing was a bit odd and also proclaimed a ban on bare feet (in NZ???). The shuttle bus was efficient but the driver! Oh so grumpy! But we had a good laugh about it.

Hi, I think your ride is provided by Christchurch tramway. Not both but well worth the money as at the top there is lots to do. I enjoyed it and then I bought a tram ticket too and spent the day hopping on and off. I also recommend punting on the river too
