Wonderful experience
Was first to arrive at 9.50am with being the only car in the car park. This pandemic has given us complete access to all attractions without the crowds. Brilliant !

Took the gondola 10 minute ride to the summit and it was a wonderful view all the way up. First went the observatory deck which wrapped around the who building and gave us wonderful 360 degree views of Christchurch and surrounds. Also went outside and did the crater summit walk out to the lookout. This was well worth doing. Eventually made our way back to the summit station and took the hair raising ride back down the steep mountain. Well worth the $30pp ticket especially on this beautiful crisp clear sunny morning.

The ticket line was pretty long, but they moved us through fairly quickly. You can spend as long as you like up the top. The kids went on the luge an had a ball.

I got there early via bus and it was really nice to be allowed in a little early to get out of the wind

The ride is very smooth even on a windy day. The view from the top is indescribable really. You’re standing on a volcano rim and you can see two cities from there.

There’s a cool ride inside the upper building too that gives you some background on a few things that’s worth doing too. I didn’t eat at the cafe but had an Americano and was nice to sip on while enjoying the stunning view.

Only go up when the weather is really nice!
Dec 2019
Take a jacket with you, because it can be very windy.
On the lookout of the mountain station you have a wonderful view of the city, Lyttelton Harbor and Canterbury Plains.
We actually wanted to make the way up on foot, but you could only buy return tickets for 30 NZD.
On top of the mountain there are beautiful hiking trails in both directions, which lead along the mountain crest.
We treated ourselves to a Cappuccino in the otherwise somewhat expensive restaurant, which was really very good.

Slow
Feb 2020
The weather was windy and raining, the queue to board the gondola was out the door of the ticket office, took 30 minutes before we boarded the gondola, and was told just before we boarded that it was due to the weather, why was there not a representative at the main door to inform us of this fact as a couple of people turned around and left.
Once to the top the view was great, the Time Tunnel Experience ,The History of Canterbury was very interesting, cafe was fine and the bus service to and from
Christchurch was excellent.

tourist highlight
Feb 2020
Interesting outing although the actual gondola ride is a bit ho-hum but still good . The facilities at the top are excellent with friendly and knowledgeable staff in the gift shop and restaurant. The 'time tunnel' thing was a bit odd and also proclaimed a ban on bare feet (in NZ???). The shuttle bus was efficient but the driver! Oh so grumpy! But we had a good laugh about it.

Magnificent Sights
Feb 2020
Well worth taking the time to enjoy some time going up to the top of the mountain in the gondola as the view was so breathtaking. It was a very hot day yesterday here 17th February, 2020 and the gondola itself was a little hot to sit in but other than that fabulous. We had coffee in the cafe at the top and purchased a couple of items in the gift shop and had quite an extensive chat with the lovely lady behind the counter who was so very helpful in finding us what we wanted. She totally went out of her way to do so and therefore making us extremely happy.
