A really enjoyable wine tasting experience.
What a truly enjoyable day. We were collected from our hotel by our driver and tour guide Joseph. He is a Christchurch local he had a wonderful knowledge of Christchurch and surrounds and he made our tour so interesting and informative. We had a small group which was really great and in no time everyone was chatting like old friends. Our first winery ( where we had a very tasty lunch) was excellent. The second winery a little off the beaten track was interesting to see snd our third and last so welcoming and friendly and offered us so many different tastings. The whole tour took a little over 5 hours and we never felt rushed or pressured to move on. I would highly recommend this experience. Such an enjoyable day.

          Akaroa Day Trip
We thoroughly enjoyed the day trip to Akaroa and harbour cruise. Our driver/guide Scotty is a legend, very knowledgeable on the history and background, giving us an insight to how this part of NZ was settled. Akaroa itself is a charming place, the lunch was a chance to catch up wth fellow travellers and hear of their experiences. On the harbour cruise we saw dolphins, babyseals and a humpback made a brief appearance... this was the first sighting of the season, so a big point score for the skipper and crew. Picked up some chutneys, cheese and chocs at the factory before heading back to town Thanks to all for a very enjoyable day out.. Barbara M

Very nice tour operator, Akaroa town blah, Hector dolphins on bay good
We live along a vibrant coast so I'm a bit jaded on beach towns so this place did not meet my expectations and we did not enjoy our lunch choices at Bully Hayes. The restaurant was not busy and yet they crammed 5 of us into a table for 4 making it difficult to place beverages, elbows, etc. The boat out to the marine reserve was good, you cannot see the penguins, don't plan on it. I'm seen enough fur seals to last my life, but we were fortunate to have an abundance of playful Hector dolphins hang around the boat. Before arriving in town, we stopped at a beautiful viewpoint. Afterward, we stopped at a cheese place. Seriously, you should drop that from the tour, it is ridiculous and not worthy of being called a tasting. Waste of time. I wouldn't do this trip again...too much time and money for the result.

Loved our tour with Scotty. What a great way to see Christchurch, Mona Vale and the International Antarctic Centre
Loved our tour with Scotty. What a great tour guide and driver. After leaving Lyttelton, travelled via the inner bays of Lyttelton Harbour to Governors Bay via Dyers Pass to the Sign of the Takahe. Hike for a few minutes to enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the City of Christchurch and the Southern Alps which are snowcapped for up to 9 months. The Scottish "castle" is so charming. Next stop was the Mona Vale Gardens which was renamed by Annie Quayle Townend after her mother's house in Tasmania. Annie inherited one million pounds as the sole surviving child in her family. This made her the richest independent woman in 1905. Mona Vale was originally called Karewa when it was built in 1899-1900. Townend added the gatehouse, more land and gardens and a Fernery to the property. Ferneries are quite popular in New Zealand. After her death, the property went through several owners including the Church of Latter Day Saints. When the church tried to sell the property to a private developer, there was a major public outcry. Community fundraising helped to turn the homestead into a beautiful public park and gardens open for all to enjoy. Our guide, Scotty dropped us off at the Fendalton Road gatehouse. So nice to able to walk along the Avon River enjoying the weeping willows and the agapanthus until we reached the rose garden. The rose garden is gorgeous. Love all the different varieties. Also interesting to visit the Fernery which seem to be quite popular in New Zealand. So many different varieties of huge ferns. Loved seeing the purple cardoon, artichoke thistle, and large yellow garden dahlias. Spent a couple of hours exploring Christchurch which is still recovering from a devastating earthquake in 2011. Amazing to see how the city is rebuilding historic landmarks and adding green spaces. Want to explore Antarctica without actually stepping foot on the continent? Visit the International Antarctic Centre to get an overview of what happens on the frozen land. So easy to get to the International Antarctic Centre with our guide Scotty. Booked a great tour of Christchurch and the International Antarctic Centre from the Shore Excursions Group. Adorable Little Blue Fairy Penguins. Hagglund Field Trip. A blizzard in the Storm Dome....and the cutest huskies! Started with a very bumpy ride on the Hagglund Field Trip. Sit back, buckle up and hold on. Get an idea of what scientists experience on the all-terrain amphibious vehicles designed to explore the icy crevasses on Antarctica. Up, down, over and through. The little blue fairy penguins are so cute! Since they usually are out hunting fish during the day, they are hard to find in the wild until they come back in a parade at night. So nice to be able to see the family of tiny penguins that are native to New Zealand who have been rescued due to physical ailments or injuries. Adorable! Brrrrrrrrr..... Feel the chill of an Antarctic Storm up close and personal. Bundle up in a long coat, put on shoe covers and enter the Storm Dome. Every hour, an Antarctic Storm drops the temperature from minus 8 degrees Celsius to minus 18. Amazed at how well the coats provided keep you comfortable. But still, so cold! Explore Antarctica in the galleries. Watch the 4D movie. The 360 gallery had such beautiful images of the continent, penguins and whales. Loved learning about the research that happens with international cooperation and how the scientists prepare to live in Antarctica. Huskies!! Who can resist playing with huskies? So cute and so friendly. My parents especially loved this part. A great way to end the day at the International Antarctic Centre. Support the center with a purchase in the gift shop. They had a sale on two tea towels for $2 NZD. We also grabbed some magnets and beanies for friends and family back home. On the return to Lyttleton, Scotty drove by the estuary and the beach suburb via Evans Pass which was closed for more than 7 years following the Christchurch earthquake of 2011 due to cliff collapse. Imagine the devastation, but nice to see how the community has banded together to help each other.

          Could have been better.
Overall good but it was obvious that the tour guide had little knowledge of the wine region and had not even tried any of the 3 vineyards wine. One of the cellar doors (Georges Road) was great with wine that showed the skills of the winemaker. My wife and I thought the other 2 were really average. The other participants made for good company. My advice to the operator of the tours is, employ people who know the product and region to make the day more enjoyable and informative.

Picked up directly from where the cruise ship transfer point in Lyttelton. Good overview of Christchurch if your time is limited. The Antarctic Centre was the highlight thanks to our guide Karen with the bonus of seeing the new Husky Puppy, Thanks also to Andrew for making the tour very enjoyable and informative. 🙂

          bus breakdown and no communication
Stay away from this vendor. It was the worst experience ever. We went out about 30 minutes and the bus broke down and all the anti-freeze poured out. The driver put water bottles in the bus and flagged down a bicyclist for a screw driver. He claimed it was fixed and we continued on. The first viewing stop, he added water into the empty water bottles into the bus. We continued on, instead of going back. We went into town for a lunch break, which was not long enough to eat. Then we finally got to the Antarctic Center. He was filling the bus up again with water. We expected another mode of transportation back, since we were there for over two hours. The bus started loosing water again as we headed back to the ship. He stopped again at a gas station and filled up the bus again. He communicated we would only make it back to the Princess shuttle busses. He did not refund us any money or apologize. We were lucky to get back to the Princess shuttles, otherwise we would have missed the ship. Never again. I sent a letter to the company and he sent back a very condescending email and never refused any of our money for this more than stressful excursion

          Lyttelton/Christchurch tour
My Wife & I along with 2 of our good friends took this tour Monday 8th of April 2024, our tour guide was awesome, he was a very friendly, colorful character with a big bushy white beard, in bright Green Shoes & hat with red & Black Checkered pants, he explained liquefaction & why the earthquake was so devastating to the City of Christchurch, his knowledge of the city redesign/rebuild, buildings, earthquakes & geology was amazing, he explained the red zone and what that entailed, he gave us so many suggestions of where to eat lunch and what to look at. The only very minor negative was as we were from a cruise ship, docked in Lyttelton we needed more time to have lunch free explore the city centre of Christchurch & look at some of his suggestions.

Shore excursion - good way to see and learn about the area.
We enjoyed this shore excursion and learned a lot about the area in the short time we had on shore. The city was severely damaged by an earthquake and aftershocks in 2011 and is still undergoing construction. Our guide was a local and shared a lot of good information about the area.

Great Guide, Great Company, Great City!
Had the absolute best day with Di... She was a lifetime local and had so many great stories and was so engaging and personable. The morning tour of the city with just two other people was beautiful and Christchurch is at the top of our list to come back and discover... One day off the cruise ship wasn't enough! After the morning, we picked up more people and headed to the wine tastings. The small group we had from around the world became fast friends. We had such an amazing afternoon of wine tasting, beautiful views and friendly people. We didn't want it to end! Thanks for the great day!

Lyttleton and Christchurch Beautiful, had an amazing tour guide. Learned about the devastating earthquake of 2010, city is still rebuilding. Would like to have known more about the current things happening rather than just the old stuff.

It was a small group of 6 so time was easy to manage. The train rude was good but impt if u get good sears. We were grouped to seat with another group member for our family so couldn't say that was great. The subsequent photos stops were great as the guide, Scotty explained the details and helped us to better understand the surroundings. Lunch was ordinary with one 1 cafe open. The visit to the sheep farm was good too. Amazing to see the sheep dog in action. Overall, a cosy and nice day tour for all.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. You have given a great description of the day that I'm certain will be helpful to others. You are right that lunch can be a challenge due to other cafes being closed on certain days through staff shortages however the cafe in the village does serve a range of cabinet food as well as a freshly cooked menu. I will pass on your kind words to Scotty.

The tour guide was excellent, very informative and stopped at interesting places for photos during the drive. I enjoyed our conversations with the sheep farmer and his wife. He not only sheared a sheep, but explained to us about the differences in the wool coming from different parts of the sheep's body, something new to me.

Lunch was included and we could order anything we wanted off the interesting menu. There was enough time to wander around the area before continuing the trip.

Views from the train were nice. Food/drink was available on the train, also.

A nicely balanced day of travel, sites, and interesting information. The small size of the group really met our needs, also.

Thank you Kevin for our wonderful day, and for going that extra mile to describe all of the surroundings to Charlie who is blind, we learnt so many new things because of your extensive knowledge of the area. Otira Hotel was such a great experience. If your considering doing this tour then go for it! You will not be disappointed. visiting the farm of Trevor and Heather was such a delight.

Beware the title of this tour. In fact the train portion of this tour starts in Springfield(approx 45min from Christchurch) and ends in Arthur's Pass(approx 1.5 hours). After, that, it is a return by bus/coach to Christchurch with a few stops along the way. Don't get me wrong, the scenery from the train is gorgeous and some of the bus/coach stops yeilded impressive views of watersfalls, rock formations and cattle/sheep ranches. We were just caught off guard by the amount of driving based upon the tour's title. Probably wouldn't have gone had we known. Guide was personable, knowledgeable and accommodating to all participants.

Thank you for taking the time to submit the review. Having reviewed both the title of the tour and the tour description I believe everything is clear and there is nothing misleading. In fact all of the reviews for this tour have been up until now very good. As the train departs Christchurch just after 8 pm we would need to start the city pick ups an hour earlier than the current pick up times to get everyone to the Christchurch Railway Station to be processed with a multitude of other travellers. By using the railway station in Springfield there is no waiting and nothing has been missed, as up until this point the train has only travelled across the Canterbury Plains. When the train departs Arthurs Pass it then enters a 8260 meter tunnel before coming out on the West Coast. In addition by getting off the train in Arthurs Pass it gives everyone time in the national park as well as time to do all of the other activities included in the tour such as the high country sheep farm and afternoon tea.

Arthur’s Pass trip was a fabulous day. The tour guide was fabulous and really tried to make the day great despite the rain. The trip home on the train was a highlight with fabulous views of the spectacular scenery. Was glad we did bus to pass and train home so we could enjoy a wine and beer on the train home. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic day touring Arthur’s pass with leisure tours and Sally for our guide . Scenery was amazing as was Sally. Finished the tour with a jet boat ride. Totally enjoyed the whole day.

Spectacular views. This trip was the highlight of our visit to NZ. We are so glad we did it. It involved some hiking at Arthur's pass, but it is not difficult, and all worth it to see the falls and the Castle Hill Conservation Area.

We really enjoyed the variety of activities on our day out. Graham our guide was friendly, informative and highly professional keeping us on time for every aspect of the day . Comfortable couch and great photo opportunities throughout day. Lunch was an interesting venue...highly memorable. Jet boat thrilling and not to be missed.Heather and Trevor give us an interesting insight into sheep farming. Highly recommend

Thank you for the kind words and it's great to hear that you had a nice day in Arthurs Pass. The Arthurs Pass Day Tour is one of our most popular tours so it's always nice to get some positive feedback on it. I'll be sure to let Graham know that he was professional and hospitable during your recent tour. We hope you have had a nice time in New Zealand and get to return to this beautiful country again soon.

Sue was our guide for the Arthur's Pass Day Tour, which included the TranzAlpine Express Train. We had a change of plans because of incoming bad weather. Instead of taking the train to Arthur's Pass, Sue took us via a comfortable mini-bus. And, I am glad the tour was reversed. Sue set a casual and informative atmosphere. We learned lots and even saw two Kea. We were on a limited time schedule in Christchurch, but because of this tour with Sue, we feel we got to know the area more than expected. We had a great time, even our 5 and 10 year old. Thank you!
