- bradleyk7410 contributionsAVOID THIS TOUR COMPANYAVOID THIS TOUR COMPANY! Tour was overbooked. Instead of a small bus tour with guide, we were placed on a large coach bus. Their other company vans were at port. We were unfortunate ones placed on a coach bus, even though I booked 4 months in advance. Our bus driver apologized to us at end of ride, not tour. He said tour was overbooked and he was just a driver, not a guide. Said he was contracted day before to provide bus. He handed out tour company cards to get a refund. Our ride consisted of the driver providing no commentary. He would drop us off at a site, then tell us how much time we had. PERIOD. At the gardens, he dropped us off, told us to follow path, then he would meet us in 30 minutes at other side of park. The path was a maze. A group of us just tried to figure out how to navigate park without getting lost. We obviously did not enjoy park. No commentary at any stop. Just a bus. Could have just travelled by city bus. Did not stop at Riverside Market. Trip details from company says maximum of 30 per tour, our bus held over 40. Since I booked thru TripAdvisor, contacted them. They did not follow up to me. I had to contact them again, told me company denied refund. Will now contact credit card for refund. If I could rate zero stars, I would. Do yourself a favor, do not book tours with Leisure Tours.Written 22 March 2025
- suzssz0 contributionsRecommended tour!Well organized from the time of booking. Clear Instructions and information provided. Our driver Jude was lovely and my son and I enjoyed this tour very much. Pace and timing of the tour at each location was appropriate and the highlight was seeing the dolphins!!Written 21 March 2025
- 825lindsyr0 contributionsFive starts for Stephanie!!!Unfortunately our whale watching got canceled as we were in line due to weather conditions. However our guide Stephanie made the afternoon absolutely wonderful by giving us a tour of the peninsula and showing us local landmarks. She was incredibly knowledgeable and we were able to have an amazing afternoon even without seeing whales! By the time we returned to the hotel they had already contacted us about a refund (we chose not to go on the alternate excursions offered), all in all they were a great company to work with and I wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again if I’m ever back in New Zealand!!!!Written 18 March 2025
- Seaside346581759180 contributionsGreat tour/great guideVery enjoyable trip. Our guide Pete was amazing and very informative. You will get a great education on a wide variety of New Zealand subjects, while seeing a beautiful country. Highly recommend .Written 14 March 2025
- R0nB880 contributionsExcellent Day out of ChristchurchThis was an excellent tour. Pete, our guide was very knowledgeable and provided insight on a number of topics related to the area and NZ in general. Loved the lunch place, and there was sufficient time to explore the town. The ride on the boat through the harbour was a highlight. Can’t believe we saw those beautiful little dolphins! Highly recommend this tour…Written 10 March 2025
- SMSS_730 contributionsAkaroa day trip - okay way to spend the dayThe fourth star is entirely for our guide, Carmen, as she was very friendly and had a natural ease with tour groups. But we found the tour a bit disappointing. The drive to Akaroa was beautiful along the mountain road (great for roadside pics) but it took longer so left us with only an hour in Akaroa, not enough time to see all that the town has to offer. We had the lunch option, and the restaurant was fine (choices for all diets), but this ended up cutting into town-touring time. The Dolphin watching trip was okay (cold and few dolphins - not the tour operator's fault!) but the two-hour tour spent too much time chasing elusive dolphins and not enough time on the other sea-life such as the seals and birds. The "cheese tasting" at the end of the tour was misleading and disappointing: it was a shop with a few pieces of cheese out to taste but otherwise the expectation was to buy something - the description led ja to believe it would be more of a guided tasting and explanation of cheese making. Would recommend this be skipped in favour of more time in Akaroa. However: would still recommend as a day trip from Christchurch for the mountain road views.Written 10 March 2025
- conniea9990 contributionsHelpful tour to understand the rebuild post earthquakeScotty was very knowledgeable but talked nonstop. My brain needed a break now and then. I found myself tuning him out unfortunately. The animal reserve was nice but the guide would start talking as soon as he started walking away from us all and only the first few people could hear him. He needs a microphone or not talk until we are all present. I told him we could not all hear him and nothing changed.Written 10 March 2025
- Q7735VTrobertm0 contributionsAkaroa Full Day sightseeing with Lunch and CatamaranThis day tour included a scenic drive to Akaroa with a nice stop about an hour out at Little River for rest room and cafe. Plenty of time to explore the town and enjoy an excellent lunch at Bully Hayes restaurant. The highlight was the two hour catamaran cruise via Black Cat Cruises. We were able to observe Hector’s dolphins ,New Zealand fur seals and plenty of bird species. Brief stop at a cheese shop on the way back. Pete was an excellent host/driver with passionate commentary during the round trip commute from Christchurch. A really enjoyable day!Written 7 March 2025
- Ross R0 contributionsNice tripScenic train journey to Arthur’s Pass. Pleasant trip with tour guide Graham. I know the afternoon did not have the farm visit due to a medical event but a simple cup of tea/coffee would have been nice. I am not sure the lunch was value for moneyWritten 6 March 2025
- Q7735VTrobertm0 contributionsTranzAlpine day tour to Arthur’s Pass from ChristchurchGraham was a great driver and guide full of commentary for the area. This is a great way to experience the TranzAlpine train to Arthur’s Pass which took a bit over two hours from Christchurch. Graham was right there to meet us. He did have a mishap with the van on the way up as a side window was shattered by a passing logging truck. I say this as he had already coordinated a replacement van and our tour’s safe travel was paramount. We hiked the Devils punchbowl which had spectacular views and returned to to have a lunch coordinated in advance. We visited various overlooks and photo stops in route back to Christchurch. We were not able to visit the sheep farm as there was a medical incident related to the farmhouse that was communicated to us the day prior to the tour. We wish them full and speedy recovery and appreciate the communication prior to the tour. Would recommend this full day tour, well worthwhile with spectacular scenery.Written 6 March 2025
- X6196BZjosephk0 contributionsDon't Book This TourThe operator cancelled us only two days before the tour. By that time, all decent tours were unavailable. Here's what they said: "Your driver allocated on Saturday 8th Feb for this tour is now unavailable due to personal reasons, and as its a double cruise ship day in Lyttelton we are unable to operate this tour." Don't risk it, book with someone else.Written 6 March 2025

Had plenty of time to explore the town and enjoy a lunch at Bully Hayes restaurant. The highlight was the two hour catamaran cruise! We spotted five Hector’s dolphins and some New Zealand fur seals. - Steve I0 contributionsGreat tour! This tour was fantastic with a great tour guide. Lots of great information was provided. He gave some great ideas for lunch and plenty of time to have lunch and do some shopping before having to move on to other places. The Antarctic Center was great. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about the area and see the sights of Christchurch.Written 27 February 2025

Lovely afternoon spent with Tania (Driver) and the gang! We were picked up on time at the Observatory hotel, right from the off Tania made everyone feel welcome. She got everyone to introduced themselves and the conversation flowed from there.
As we drove along Tania was very knowledgeable about the local area and kept everyone entertained. It was a comfortable journey and mini bus had air con.
At the first winery, Waipara Springs, we enjoyed sampling several very nice wines (sauvignon blanc was definitely my favourite) with a brief explanation of each one and then had a lovely lunch. We purchased a couple of well priced bottles of Sauvignon blanc then we were on our way to George’s Road wines. There we sampled several of Kirk’s wines in some of the most beautiful surroundings. We all chatted happily and I would have sat there feeling very content all afternoon but we had yet another winery to get to. Finally we went to Torlesse winery, again I couldn’t fault the wines- everyone had their favourite and we also got to sample a port and blackcurrant liquor, which I can highly recommend and we also purchased!
I would say the tour was well worth the money, we were lucky to have lovely company and a fabulous driver.
All in all a fantastic day, I would highly recommend it.

This was one of the best tours we did in NZ. Each winery had a wonderful sekection of wines and the vineyards themselves were absolutely stunning! Tania was especially attentive and fun, making the whole experience well worth the money.

This tour was well worth the time and cost... a great addition to our visit in Christchurch. The tour company who organized the wine tour was Leisure Tours and they made a great effort to expose us to a variety of wines. We were taken to four wineries and tasted their lovely wines. As expected, some wines and wineries were better than others and having been to other wine tours it becomes easier to be more discerning. The winery that provided lunch was Vaipara HIlls, Their wines were lovely and their lunch delicious and generous. My only critique would be that the tasting should have been combined with the lunch. It would have been better appreciated. We had a similar tasting at a winery on Weiheke Island and that is how they organized the wine tasting and it was much more enjoyable and appreciated. We really enjoyed the wines at Torlesse Winery, the presenter was so enthusiastic and knowledgable. The winery was smaller and unpretentious and we were thoroughly relaxed and charmed. George Road Winery to me was not very creative as evidenced by their name which was taken from the name of the road they are on. It was an overall unimpressive winery even though our driver enthusiastically promoted the winery and wine. The most impressive winery of our tour was Pegasus Bay. Everything about it was impressive, from the lush gardens, interesting architecture of the building, each promising more to come. The most impressive was the tasting room. It was rich in history of the family who established the winery while being modern in innovation. The wines were a great compliment to the surroundings and our experience there. Overall, a winning afternoon with a friendly driver. (His attempt to use a speaker system in our small bus was a failure for those of us in the back of the bus. It cut out often or was garbled. However he was happy to repeat himself if we asked.) The bus?van was comfortable and the drive smooth and safe.

Our guide was very nice but the van was very cramped and the wines we were served were mediocre at best. Hopefully not emblematic of the vineyards but their bottom tier labels. Should have realized this based on price so my bad. On the other hand our group was lively and fun so a good was so spend a drizzly day

Fabulous wine tour! The driver/guide provided information on the drive to the first winery, Waipara Springs, where we tasted several wines, then had a great lunch. The wine pourer explained the wine processes and answered questions. We also visited George's Road and Torlesse. I was able to discuss the wines we tasted with the owner at George's Road who then offered to let us taste his syrah. Two of us found this one to be the best and we each bought a bottle. Torlesse produces wine in a more French style. All in all, a great day out meeting other wine lovers, and tasting a variety of wines and styles. I would definitely recommend!

This was my partner and I's first experience of a wine tour. The tour guide, transfer, wineries and the wines themselves were all fantastic! Really recommend this tour if you are into whites as that was the majority of what we tasted. All 4 wineries we went to were totally unique experiences. We originally booked for a tour without lunch but the company did not achieve the numbers to allow that to go ahead so we payed extra to attend with lunch, and I don't particularly believe the food was worth what you pay. Another small downside was as the day went on our time at each winery felt more rushed as we ran over time. Overall I would definitely recommend booking this tour, just without the added lunch!

We had a very interesting day and turned lemons into lemonade! We were picked up at our hotel and my wife and I were the last of 7 guests so had to sit at the back of the van. The van’s ac was not working and it was a warm day so not the most pleasant ride to the first vineyard - about 45 minutes. As we pulled into Waipara Springs winery the van died - right in the middle of the lot! This is where we made lemonade! We had and enjoyable tasting and then were served a nice lunch. At that time our driver let us know that the company was sending a new van. So the group ordered 2 bottles of wine and we had a nice hour or so to enjoy them on this warm and breezy day! The new van arrived and we set off to our second winery - Georges Road. We had a nice tasting provided by the owner and I loved his tee shirt so much I bought one. At our third winery Torlese we had some nice wines but the port they make is so good. Unfortunately they can’t ship those wines! If you go hopefully you will have room in your bags for a bottle - we didn’t. We had a nice group on our tour and the weather and wines were enjoyable but the initial van was disappointing. The second one was much newer and comfortable- we would have given the tour 5 stars if they had sent that van first.

6 hour trip with three winery’s and lunch. The winery’s got better during the trip with the final one (Torlesse) being the best. All wineries offered 5 tastings but at Torlesse you could additionally choose between two wines and the amount given was more generous.

Overall good but it was obvious that the tour guide had little knowledge of the wine region and had not even tried any of the 3 vineyards wine. One of the cellar doors (Georges Road) was great with wine that showed the skills of the winemaker. My wife and I thought the other 2 were really average. The other participants made for good company. My advice to the operator of the tours is, employ people who know the product and region to make the day more enjoyable and informative.

Amazing experience, Tanya was an absolute blast and a really good sport putting up with our lot of rather loud personalities. We had a lot of fun and got to hear some interesting facts about the countryside, and Tanya too! None of us were huge wine coinsures, but found the experience to be both hilarious and educational - tasty little wineries that made us appreciate the art of wine making..

Hey, I was looking at potential doing this winery in November but the dates are unavailable. Is this due to it being seasonal and the tour does not happen this time of year or is it just too far in advance to book?
