    Excellent, World Class AAA
Excellent, I am an aviation enthusiast and have visited many aircraft museums around the world, this museum is fantastic, especially the WWI section with the settings which are very uniquely done, nothing else like it anywhere. My wife even enjoyed it with the settings and also took several photos (she originally wanted to sit outside and knit while I visited) so that says something. This museum cannot be missed if you visit the South Island, definitely world class grade AAA.

    Great Exhibition, don’t miss
Fascinating museum. Do not miss it’s worth the trip from downtown Blenheim: informative, beautifully designed, great display of WWII airplanes. Good cafeteria. Only regret was not having the time to see all the exhibits.

    Great afternoon
Stunning array of beautifully maintained planes, some of which still fly. Friendly, informative volunteers. Amazing dioramas, both those created by Peter Jackson and the ones made by the volunteers.

Outstanding museums allow plenty of time
One of the best museum experiences we have ever had. Informative, realistic. Incredible wealth of material and jam packed with human history to bring it all to life.

An absolute must see in Blenheim
This amazing museum was completely mind blowing. Vintage planes are always fascinating, but the way these are displayed in the most realistic of dioramas really sends it onto another level. You honestly felt you were looking at real people interacting with the fabulous old planes

    A fascinating display
This was recommended to me by a fellow passenger on the Picton ferry and I am very pleased he did as I had not heard about it. It consists of two large exhibition hangars devoted to first and second war aircraft. The exhibits are very well presented with boards explaining the aircraft. Additionally there are knowledgeable guides who are keen to explain about the aircraft. The Stalingrad audio visual display at the end which highlights Russian WW2 losses probably helps explain their continuing anti Western attitude. We didn’t get to see any aircraft flying, but the Avro Anson taxiing was a bonus.

Perhaps the most well presented and interesting aviation museum.
Beautifully presented exhibits with great information boards. Fabulous diaoramas. Truely magnificent. Highly recommended. I would have loved there to have been a guide book with the information boards included as they were very informative and entertaining. I have photographed them to refer back to but a souvenir guide would have been excellent

    Worth a visit
A must do if you are in Blenheim. It kept both the young and old interested. You can take the small train to the museum. It is walking distance of the town centre.

    Let down
After seeing the incredible WW1 display a few years ago I was pretty disappointed with this one. I would have liked more life-like settings with more 'activity', rather than planes plonked in a shed. The only decent scene was the jungle which was so clever, and the Stalingrad film saved the morning. Very wordy info panels wouldn't have engaged children or teens which is a lost opportunity. The Cafe is fairly average too. Go to the WW2 exhibition and give this one a miss.

You don't have to be a plane fan to love this place. We did both WW1 and 2 exhibits .. this truly is a world class museum

Not, as the saying goes, to be missed
I know a fair amount about WWI aviation but was unaware of this amazing museum's existence until browsing through our Lonely Planet guide. This is an unmatched collection of vintage and replica airplanes. Mrs. S. has little interest in WWI aviation, but found the visit highly compelling, owing to the human stories told therein. The folks downplay the non-Peter-Jackson segment (WWII) but it too is not to be missed. The virtual reality Stalingrad experience is a bit puzzling -- why not pick something like the Battle of Britain -- but overall this is top-notch.

One word EXCELLENT, highly recommend X infinity
WOW, this Museum is like the Tardise as in Doctor Who, larger inside than it appears on the outside. This collection has to be some of the best installation works I’ve seen worldwide. With some of the original planes. World war 1 is in its own hanger. World war 11 is in a seperate space. Don’t forget to watch the video at the end of WW 11 it’s mind blowing, especially how many human lives were lost. I took footage but I’m not sure if I can post it in here. This also has a cafe with cabinet food and delicious coffee. This is one of the best Museums I’ve seen Worldwide. Highly recommend X infinity.

    Must see aviation museum
Historical must see aviation museum; we stopped by and the museum had two sections and the displays and planes were really well presented. Highly recommend this museum. Guides were helpful and informative too.

An aviation history lesson. A story of New Zealand’s involvement in the two Great Wars.
For WW1 and WW2 aviation buffs, this place is Mecca. I don’t fall in that category but my husband does! We changed our travelling plans so that he could visit and perhaps see the WW2 Avro Anson, the only one which is airworthy and flying. But it wasn’t on view as the aeroplane is owned by a private individual. However, the exhibitions were so very good it made up for the disappointment. We went out of season, so the museum was quiet and not busy. I would image during the holiday times, it would prove to be a popular destination. Whilst I would recommend a visit, I would suggest this is not a place to keep young children engaged. The jelly sweets in the shape of an aeroplane are good. $2 from the coffee/ cafe counter.

There are two museums/exhibitions to visit at the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre; 'Knights of the Sky’ covering WW1 and ‘Dangerous Skies’ covering WW2. The planes in the 'Knights of the Sky’ museum are part of Peter Jackson's (Lord of the Rings fame) private collection. Peter Jackson combined with a local group of vintage aeroplane enthusiasts to build the facility. He paid for the whole project and used his people from Wingnut films to build the dioramas and Weta Workshop to make the manikins. The result is a fantastic exhibition, really lifelike, telling the story of aircraft in WW1. The dioramas and manikins in the 'Dangerous Skies' were also made by Wingnut and Weta. There is a combined ticket for both exhibitions, which will safe some money on the entrance fee. There is a Seniors rate but only for New Zealanders over 65! There is also a small café located in the 'Knights of the Sky' building. It is also possible to have a flight in a restored Yakovlev Yak – 3 (Russian WW2 fighter plane) or a US Army Air Corps Biplane – Boeing Stearman (US military training plane). Prices are not cheap but what an experience.

Wow! The Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre has an awesome collection of aircraft and displays to please all visitors. With two main exhibits - the WW1 and WW2 collections - it is evident that many hours of time and effort have gone into the facility, both in restoring the beautiful vintage aircraft and in creating the lifelike and well thought out displays. We didn’t have long enough to properly enjoy the exhibits, so will definitely be back again soon!

You can buy a pass to just one or both exhibits, or an annual pass (for only $10 more) which will let you see the exhibits at your leisure and come back again later in the year. There are occasional updates to displays and sometimes aircraft can be out flying, so multiple visits may be recommended if you want the full experience.

Having visited many vintage car and aircraft exhibitions, this one is certainly out of the box. The presentation in live scenery, with painstakingly crafted details is surely amazing. In that respect it is unique in its kind. The number of aircraft may be somewhat limited, but the presentation makes it worth while.

I visited both the WW1 and WW2 exhibits and can only say it was a fantastic exhibition that I am sooo glad I experienced. I highly recommend a visit to the Omaka Centre to anyone who has an interest in fighter aircraft of this vintage. A special thankyou to Peter the volunteer for all his advice. He clearly loves his work and I appreciated him taking the time to direct me and share some of his experience and knowledge with me.

Outstanding exhibits with several life like dioramas and restored aircraft from WW1 and WW2. You can buy separate tickets for each so you can do them on different days or do both exhibitions on the same day for a small discount. The collection of uniforms and other items is world class, particularly from a German WW1 perspective. There is also a decent cafe which enables you to take a break between the two exhibitions.

An excellent facility and well worth the visit. It is one of those places that you could visit time and time again and see new material. While not the largest of aircraft displays, the unique aircraft, the terrific presentation, the quality of the layout and the exquisite collection of unique memorabilia make this a must see.

Loved the displays and the work by Weta Worksop on the WW1 aircraft. Really brought them to life. The WW2 exhibit with the audio-visual show at the end was well worthwhile. Cool to be up close with some classic aircraft.

Visited soon after opening time in the weekend, so after excellent coffee in attached cafe we sauntered around the WWI exhibition in about an hour without any other visitors.
After a bit of a break we used the self-service tokens to enter the WWII exhibition.
Friendly staff at each location answered questions and shared enthusiasm about forthcoming expansion plans.
Displays of aircraft are the real thing and enhanced by life like mannequins. Information panels tell interesting stories.

We planned our trip to Blenheim to come and see Omaka. We thought it would be good, but it was even better than anticipated. We arrived just after it opened in the morning and left as it was about to close. It is a world class exhibition beautifully presented all that you would expect of a Peter Jackson collaboration. We didn’t get to see the classic cars as we ran out of time. We were told that there are plans to expand, we certainly hope so as we will be back.

Amazing exhibits. Definitely do both Ww1 and Ww2 exhibits! The WW1 exhibit is a bit bigger and needs about 1hr, WW2 needs about 40mins to walk through...depending of course on how much you want to read. Planes are often presented in scenes designed by Peter Jackson...the details are phenomenal! Also has personal accounts from both side and artifacts (eg a patch from the Red Barons plane with the cross on it). Definitely recommend. There is also a gift shop and Cafe on site.
