About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- V6350LQrichardl0 contributionsWonderful! One of our favorite rides of all time! What made it great for us included riding on rails-to-trails surface. Started it Kaitoka, noting the grade for riding bike was no greater than one would expect for a trail, especially on the uphill side, which constitutes about half the distance. Climb for 1/2, then descend for 1/2, the last 1.5 mile of the trail on singletrack, then you optionally continue ride about 5 miles on or adjacent to a lightly used county road to town of Featherton. One the trail portion, there are no cars or motorized vehicles to contend with because it's dedicated to biking and hiking...you are out in the middle of nowhere. Saw maybe 10 people the whole time. Went through 4 cool old railroad tunnels and over a safe but hairy swing bridge. Trail very well maintained. We live in Southern Colorado and are experienced bikers, and found this trip to be equal or better than most of the stuff we normally ride at home. The wife and I booked this as a departure from the usual cruise ship baloney. Wildfiner picked us up at cruiseship, trucked us with rented bikes to trailhead, and picked us up at the end, then carted us back to ship. About 2-3.5 hours of riding depending on your skill and whether you extend along road to Featherton. Would recommend this ride only for people comfortable with moutain biking...not for novices because of some steep drop offs, and need to climb and descend. They do offer both regular hard tail as well as e-bikes. We chose hard tail and were glad...more maneuverable on single track section which was on the downhill section of our ride.Written 13 February 2025
- Eiwei0 contributionsEasy ride through greens outside WellingtonIt was a fun experience! Super Service! Very nice and easy trail. Wasn’t sure we would start the tour because the weather wasn’t all sunny. But the soft rain in the beginning soon stopped, as promised. The gravel track is a safe ride even with some rain. Nice bridges on the way (slippery when wet).Written 4 January 2025
- DamianMead0 contributionsReally fabulousExcellent experience with Wildfinder. A feeling of freedom for three days straight that lasts a week afterwards. There were some roads to navigate but cycle paths are being built along most of them.Written 17 October 2024

- Z6413LWmichaelb0 contributionsRemutaka, solo and in winterI did the Remutaka trail. Not as tough as I was expecting. A nice steady incline. Bush views and lots of historical things to look at. Tunnels and swing bridge make it a little bit different. Good down hill run and a small singletrack section at the end. Wildfinder were excellent The bikes were good. Food and accommodation (at Featherston) excellent. As a solo rider I appreciated the GPS tracker. Isaac was great. So flexible with the arrangements to fit my time availability and the weather. From Siberia Tunnel I had rain, lightening and hail. I appreciated Isaacs pick-up at Cross Creek.Written 23 August 2024
- touringmatt0 contributionsNightmare on 2 wheelsDon’t do their 5 days tour!!! First 1.5 days of the 5 day tour are everything you would imagine. Lovely peaceful shared used paths and cycle trails. The remaining 3.5 days are a complete nightmare for someone not used to riding on 100kph county highways and roads. My wife tried to communicate her concerns for her safety with the owner. Who basically flipped it back on her by defending his use of the term “quiet country roads”, and said it was “unfortunate too we were not made aware that your top priority was to stay off road” . Well we’re on a nice vacation we would have thought it was blatantly obvious we didn’t what do predominantly road riding on this type of tour. I would have put this review against their 5 day tour, but for SOME reason the owners choose not to advertise the 5 day tour on a platform like trip advisor where people will review it….Written 16 April 2024
- matthewrU7105WS0 contributionsA rail of a good timeThanks so much for the most incredible experience.. right from pick up to drop off, Cooper was so accommodating, knowledgeable & excited to please .. there was a mix up with mountain bikes however he was able to assist us by finding some e bikes to ensure we were happy & prepared .. Riding through the mountains was very spectacular through the different terrain & different levels .. we were impressed with our lunch including the gorgeous view we had to enjoy it .. the mountain bike trail towards the end at Featherstone was fun as well as the ride to our final destination where we had fun getting the speed up .. we absolutely loved the Royal hotel at the end with all the quirkiness of it …Thanks for providing an enjoyable way to create fun memories at this spectacular location.. we most certainly recommend this to others who love adventure & experiencing life the fun wayWritten 18 March 2024
- wc98280 contributionsThe place to rent bikes for the Remutake rail trail ride. The Wildfinder bike hire company, which has locations in and around Wellington, has a small location at the Remutake Rail Trail start. The young staffer was friendly and very knowledgeable. It was an overcast and potentially rainy day and we were on the verge of bagging the ride. He convinced us to get on the ebikes and go, and it was a great ride with typical New Zealand rail trail scenes (tunnels, swing bridges, gorges). The rain never came and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride (20km to the end and back).Written 7 March 2024
- wc98280 contributionsExciting rail trail bikingThe Remutaka Rail Trail is just outside Upper Hutt, north of Wellington on New Zealand's North Island. This was our third rail trail outing in the country and they were all wonderful. The trail is 20km round trip, slightly less if you just ride to the summit. There are three tunnels and a suspension bridge on the way. We rented ebikes from Wildfinder (located at the start of the trail) and they came in handy with the steeper parts of the route. Had lunch at the summit and continued to the end, the suspension bridge over the gorge.Written 7 March 2024
- 978priscillav0 contributionsExcellent companyThe staff Alex and Isaac were excellent, caring friendly and informative. We had to change our pickup on the last day suddenly due to family circumstances and the company ,Dave was very accommodating in organising this. On the first day you are given a briefing , issued bike lights, first aid kit and locator. Excellent. A App with circuit on for the phone would have been helpful as maps got wet on 1st day. We found the Hutt Valley track ( a council issue) poorly marked but Locals were helpful. A great ride with excellent accommodation. Just be aware that at Lake Ferry if it's not a couple the bedding is sofa bed ( for 2nd person) in small space as bikes needed to be inside to charge overnight. At all accommodations bikes had to be in room for charging, perhaps in the future they may be better set up for ebikes like on West Coast of NZWritten 2 March 2024
- 764delwynb0 contributionsThe Best Cycle Company We Have Ever Dealt WithThis is a must-do ride. Wildfinder were excellent to deal with right from the initial time of booking right through to them collecting our bikes on the other side. Isaac is a top guy - explained everything clearly to us, patiently explained how to use the bikes and set us off in the right direction. He was there to meet us at Featherston and was genuinely interested in how our ride went.Written 24 February 2024

We hired three e-bikes via the Everyone’s Adventure site and requested to be picked in Featherston for the return shuttle to Kaitoke. Everything worked out perfectly. Great bikes, very quiet operation and with a GPS-tracker for an extra level of security.

Hired E bikes from 2 Wildfinder sites Kaitoke and Pencarrow on the same day and they were both excellent. The communication from the initial booking to the rides were faultless and the staff were friendly and helpful.
