Excellent route - customer service could be better
Feb 2021
My husband and I recently did the trail starting in Cross Creek and ending at Brewtown - the opposite direction (called ‘reverse’) up the Fell Incline and adding on the Hutt River Trail. It was a very windy day (at one point, I was blown off my bike), but otherwise sunny. We went midweek, so the trails and Brewtown were quieter than we expect they are at weekends, but still friendly folks around.

Pros: beautiful route with interesting information points, wonderful views and fun aspects - like the suspension bridge at the well named Siberia. Good bikes (we had ebikes) and quality lunch provided as part of the package. Pickup and return to our home in Wellington made accessing the trip very easy and convenient. Delays to pickup time alerted via text. Explanation etc of bike features at the start.

Cons: somewhat lacklustre customer service. (We note others have commented on this).

The confirmation email says the company would contact us the day before to confirm and discuss the trip. We heard nothing so texted them at 1830 including asking about the wind and received a short text in return. In the event, with the strength of the wind and gusts we would not have been able to complete the trip without our ebikes, and it would have been helpful to have been warned that we would be cycling into wind for most of the trip because of the direction we had chosen. Forewarned is forearmed.

As this is a self guided tour, the information /route sheet could be improved. There are several junctions, where just adding the name of the road would be simple and very helpful. At one point, we called the company as the description and mud map were confusing. Similarly, just adding the name of the “blue dairy”(another junction) would give confidence to people from out of town.

We were warned when dropped off to give the company 45-60 minutes advance warning by text of when we wanted our pickup to return home. Accordingly we texted the company as soon as we arrived at Brewtown just before 4pm asking for a pickup in 45 minutes. This was not acknowledged until half an hour later ( due to “being on a long phone call”) and we were then told the lift would be there in about 30 minutes. We waited outside the brewery until 5.45 - having been warned they do not pickup after 1800 - so were thinking we might have to call an Uber to get home.

A few small changes would have meant we felt we had an excellent day.

Thank you for highlighting some of the issues that occurred, we will look into what happened that day to further improve our customer service and training, and why it was not at 100% for your experience. Awesome Trail along with Fantastic service
Jan 2021
We recently had the opportunity to ride yet another of NZ's great cycle trails. Wow! We especially enjoyed this trail as each section was so different and we enjoyed the history along the route.
We commenced and ended in Day's Bay riding pretty cruisy over the 3 days as the weather was fairly kind to us. Stayed the first night in Upper Hutt with great hosts & had a great night). Our accommodation for the next night at Waiorongomai was excellent - peaceful rural setting except for the howling winds which disappeared next morning.
Most of all much thanks to both Dave and Alex for their great communication before and along the route, highly organised accommodation, meals and shuttle services. Also, thanks to the shuttle driver who kindly dropped our gear back to Wellington Top 10.
Highly recommend Cycle Remutaka (by wildfinder) and a must do trail.

Amazing day trip
Oct 2020
Had a great day even with the weather not been very cooperative. Dave was extremely efficient and well organized, got back to me quickly and offered an alternative to the standard tour as we were bringing our own bikes. Great service and well run, will definitely use these guys again when we try for another ride in better weather, and maybe even extend to the 3 days. Well worth it !

Brilliant experience from start to finish!
May 2020
We started our trip from Petone and was greeted by Alex who set us up with our bikes and maps/instructions for the first day of cycling. Our bags were taken and delivered to our first accommodation which was great to not have the weight on our backs! On the second day we switched to e-bikes and Dave was really kind and accommodating, arranging for the e-bikes to be switched at the beginning of the Remutaka trail. The ride through Remutaka was amazing, even though it was a bit wet - still so much fun! On the 3rd/last day we were collected by Alex again from Orongorongo, went by the bike shed to collect our bags/drop off the bikes and then she kindly took us back home which was so very much appreciated on a wet day when we were pretty tired! Thanks so much to Alex, Dave and the team for everything, we absolutely loved cycling this trail and all our interactions with Cycle Remutaka from beginning to end was amazing. I highly recommend a trip with them.

A wonderful three days
Mar 2020
Dave organised a great 3 day ride for us.
The bikes we hired were excellent.
The accomodation was top notch, with great meals .
We really loved the varied scenery and the remoteness of the coastline.
Weather perfect, which was an added bonus.
Thanks Dave

Fantastic Remutaka Rail Trail Trip
Feb 2020
We did a 3 day hire starting and finishing at Petone Wharf, including a day in Martinborough. We organised the trip from the UK and Dave patiently answered all of my questions politely and promptly. He met us at the agreed time and place. The bikes and kit were as he described. The ride was really interesting and we benefitted from brilliant weather. Dave then picked the bikes up from our accommodation in Petone. I had every confidence that if we had got stuck Dave would have bailed us out. Superb service! Many thanks Dave.

A great 3 days in the saddle
Jan 2020
My wife Nicki and I recently completed the Remutaka Cycle Trail from Days Bay. We did the trail over 3 days, which we thought was just the right amount of time to do the full circuit in. As it meant you had sufficient time to stop and look around at the many historical points of interest, an take in the breathtaking scenery. An also meant you could split the time on your saddle, to a reasonable amount per day.

We would also highly recommend Dave from everyone’s adventure, as we found Dave to be very organised, friendly and reputable to deal with. An we will definitely be recommending Dave to our cycle group for doing the Remutaka Cycle Trail n the future.

Great company to help organise your experience
Jan 2020
We recently completed the 3 day cycle trail leaving from Days Bay with the intention of doing the full circuit and finishing at Days Bay as well. Unfortunately the 'wild coast' part of the trail was exactly that... wild, windy and rugged. We toughed it out until Orongorongo and then called Dave for an early pick up back to Days Bay. Dave was super friendly and very helpful with great knowledge about the area and the track itself. I had ongoing problems with my hired bike which he tried to remedy and then replaced without an issue.
If you require a company to organise your trail experience then I wouldn't hesitate recommending Dave and his team.

Thanks for the great review! Glad we were able to help you guys out, the trail around the Wild Coast can be difficult at times so we're always happy to pick up at Orongorongo if need be :) Well done for toughing it out through the conditions, hope you had a great time :)

A great Day out
Apr 2019 • Couples
A great day out. Dave was friendly, helpful and made sure we had an awesome day. The trail is an easy ride, but the tunnels make it so much fun. The Summit Tunnel is a massive highlight!
If you are considering a day out on the bike, do it with Dave!
