The ferry crossing is always good, but the mask situation was like the keystone cops. For no reason anyone around me could work out people had to wear masks, with no masks if you are in the cafe or eating, or have an exemption. This security guard kept going around telling people to put them on and as soon as he passed everyone took them off. So they're on and off and wear them here, but not there, it was ridiculous and completely unnecessary and made the trip really not very nice. The InterIslander needs to get rid of masks.

We took the 2am ferry in January Wellington to Picton and the 6pm back in February. Most on the 2am passengers slept and since there weren't many aboard, we were able to find couches to spread out on and get some sleep.

Two adults and one van - no issues with our van. We were lucky enough to cruise when the water was calm and enjoyed the trip. We slept most of the way there, but on the way back, we enjoyed some food and hot drinks.

You get a decent discount on the ferry and items purchased on board with a Top Ten membership.

Helpful, friendly staff.

Was booked on the 5pm Wellington to Picton Sailing which was delayed by a couple of hours. Staff at the main gate informed me on arrival and I discovered an email advising me of same, it was a pity to miss the sailing during daylight sailing but was still a pleasant trip.

I had a 7.4m long Motorhome, the staff and crew were very helpful and there was plenty of room to manoeuvre it into position.

I paid the extra $35 and had access to the "Plus Lounge" which included an open bar, dinner and snacks and some very comfortable seating. I would book the extra next time, I had a look at the Bedrooms which were available for $40 that included a couple of beds, a bathroom and a desk and they looked good value if you had been driving and needed the sleep.

Excellent service, the ship was clean and well run. Great trip.

A mask wasn't mandatory but was recommended.

Kia Ora, Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are sorry to hear your sailing was delayed and you missed the communications about this. We agree upgrading to the plus lounge, there really is no better way to travel across the Cook Strait. Enjoy some all-inclusive drinks and food whilst you sit back and relax! Our cabins on Kaitaki are also a great option if you need a rest or a private space. Thanks again for travelling with Interislander and we hope to see you again one day! We booked the 9.00 am ferry and to ensure we got on early arrived at 7.30 am number 55 in the queue. We ended up as one of last on the boat and when we finally got on most of the seats had been taken. What is the point of giving a queue number and then to ignore it?

Food on the boat appears to be designed for hungry lorry drivers. Coffee was excellent but not much else. The outside weather was cold, about 6 degrees but his was not excuse for her boat itself to be soo cold inside.

They need more orderly loading procedure, more variety of food and proper heating

Kia Ora vwatts40, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear of your experiences with us. In regard to the loading our crew are well drilled experts in loading all the vehicles. Unfortunately loading is done not based on what time you arrive and is based on vehicle type. We are sorry that we didn’t live up to your expectations and we hope to see you again one day. Best wishes, Kirsten | The Great Journeys of New Zealand

Due to COIVD my trip was cancelled. I can not fault Interislander but I struggle to see why they associate themselves with a useless, dodgy and impossible to contact travel insurance partner. Chubb refuse to give refunds that people are entitled to and after a phone call which seemed productive and multiple emails they are now ignoring all contact.
Interislander do yourself a favour and chose a different insurance partner that actually has some moral compass and ethics.
I look forward to attempting the journey again but DO NOT add the insurance. Absolute waste of money.

I can’t comment on their policy’s, however depending on when your travel was for and if it meets the criteria you could be entitled to a refund from us. We crossed as foot passengers on a very busy day in the morning but the check in was very efficient likewise boarding and the cafe. Everything very clean, comfortable and well organised. A tip - there is an extra lounge with vides door, for which you pay $20, get an allocated leather chair, and a voucher worth $15 to spend anywhere on the ship. Our luggage was handled carefully and easy to collect off a carousel.

Once again, our trip across Cook Strait on the Kaitaki was effortless, extremely pleasant and totally wonderful.
The money spent using the Premium Lounge was worth every cent and we were well looked after by efficient and very happy staff.
We'll be doing it again in a couple of weeks and are in no doubt that our experience on board will be just as enjoyable.

We travelled from Wellington to Picton on Kaitaki which was well equiped and larger vessel. It had a cinema and kids playground. My daughter spent about half an hour there, and then went upstairs to see the magic show which were done expertly. I can see the magician had a lot of experience dealing with children. There were plenty of eateries and places to charge your mobile devices on this vessel. The time went quite quickly on this trip, and we all enjoyed the voyage.

On the return trip, we were on Aratere which was an older vessel. So, it was about half the size in terms of seatings and the eating/drinking options were bit limited compared to the other vessel. Also, being an older vessel, there were not many power points to charge the mobile devices, and the kids playground was bit basic.

We bought the ticket on the internet, and the system was easy to navigate, and it even suggested best/cheapest option depending on the group combination.

Kaitaki is showing its age despite efforts to refresh decor. The worst problem is the insistence of mask wearing around the vessel despite most of the interiors being attached to a bar or cafe of some sort. The announcements are constant and very loud even in 'quiet' spaces, the day we travelled they decided to have a crew emergency drill and passengers had to endure the antics and signals from the bridge mid Strait. Heaven help those in a real emergency if this is any indication. It is time Interislander upped their game and refreshed their announcements, procedures and professional image. Bluebridge next time.

After a long journey from our little red dot to NZ, we were greeted by warm and friendly faces of the locals whom are so helpful. It helps to melt all our amour of stress with amour.

Our first stop after disembarking from Wellington International Airport was to purchase a SIM card. City dwellers just can't survive WiFi. We opted for the Vodafone 20G which the very helpful and friendly staff duly upgraded us to 40G without any extras.

The fear of not making it to the Interislander ferry terminal was unfounded as the ease of getting a cab and a short 30 mins ride there ensured we have plenty to spare and rime to dial down our stress levels. (taxi fare about NZ $55)

NB: do remember to pack just enough baggage for decent size Camry to fit. A hybrid Camry will take less as the boot space has to make way for environmentally friendly batteries.

The recommended scenic crossing from Wellington to Picton (Gateway to the South) does live up to its expectations.

Sustenance from the friendly cafeteria serving "fish and chips" and pies on board were better than expected.

The deck and window offers wonderful views of the sea and as we reach South Island we can even catch a school of dolphins teasing close to the ship.

The cool sea air wafting through our face and hair made my youngest dance with Glee.

It was cold- In the mid teens in summer!

Ravishing.
