      Terrible memories
We stopped here day trip with Carnival cruise. We paid $340 for 4 adults and 2 children. We couldn’t even sit with my children and my old parents. I felt terrible and worried my children. Everyone sat separately. Waste money and time. They must organise seat so family can sit together. I asked the lady working there, she said people come fisrt, sit first. Terrible memories. We weren’t happy at all!

Martin was a wonderful guide. Knew a lot about the area and culture and didn't put anyone to sleep (inside joke) . We really enjoy the tour. Thank you

      Value, value, value
Not sure why anyone would complain about an extremely well priced local area trip with a commentary from a local that is extremely well informed and informative. We probably covered 50 kilometres or more in two hours including the beaches, volcano next to the ship and a few residential areas. The view from the hills was spectacular on the day we were there and we had a view of about 100kms around the area. A visit to a kiwifruit orchard and a deer farm were lovely and included a chance for photos of something other than landscapes. The antlers on the stags were super impressive. Couldn't fault the driver/host "Roger" knew his stuff, particularly historical information about local life, battles and early conditions in NZ. You'll pay a lot more to go to Rotorua and might not enjoy that nearly as much.

      Great tour of Tauranga
My husband and I took this tour and thoroughly enjoyed it. Martin was fantastic to listen to, he was very well informed and interesting. We got to enjoy the city and beyond, taking us to a Kiwi orchard, He was wonderful in taking photos for anyone who wanted. We were very happy with our tour.

The driver was very knowledgeable and kept us informed on what we were seeing. If you don't have a lot of time, this is well worth it

      Great tour
Great tour showcasing the best of the area. Very knowledgeable and entertaining commentary. Greatly appreciated the slight change to the itinerary to drop us off at The Rising Tide for lunch.

Tauranga a beautiful place to tour
Tauranga is a beautiful place and the best way to see most it is on the 2 hour mini bus tour. Dave gave a comprehensive coverage of all the interesting places. Make sure you go to the loo before you get on board as there are no toilet stops on the way. A good day though.

      Don’t bother
First of all was notified that tour started at 1pm but 4 of us weren’t notified start time was changed to 12.30 which resulted in the bus leaving without us and them having to come back to pick us up so this ate into the tour time As the bus was full my husband and I were unable to sit together and my seat was over the wheel arch which meant I had to sit “side saddle “ as there was hardly any room for my legs

Great value short tour, from cruise ship to bus.
Best trip ever, got off the cruise ship and found the trip just outside the port gate. Extremely good value at $60. Informative commentary, small group, great air conditioned bus, because, boy it was hot.

      Take Tauranga Tour
So well worth spending 2 hours learning all about the history of the city. Fascinating. Our driving guide, Dave, was super. We saw so many parts of the area. Had no idea there are so many products produced and distributed from Tauranga.

      Two Hour Overly Confined Ride
The tour covers the city and nearby countryside. The minibus carries more than 20 people. It is very tight quarters with uncomfortable and cramped seats. The tour started on time and returned to the start to pick up 3 late shows. Really? The driver made a detour to drive by a passengers former family farm. Not a bad detour since it was through decent countryside. But really? The driver overloaded us with comments. Maybe some passengers appreciated the detail, but it was a serious amount. Know what you are getting before you sign up. We wish that we did.

We booked this excursion and received the confirmation, but when we arrived at the meeting point, they weren’t there. After asking many questions we were told the company was not informed by Viator, and they didn’t have a trip to Hells Gate on that day.

Hello Valerie, As discussed with you on Sunday, the trip did not operate. It's important to note that you made your booking directly through Viator, rather than through our company. Occasionally, the Viator system experiences connectivity problems, which unfortunately occurred on the day of your intended trip. This matter should be addressed directly with Viator. Additionally, I have contacted Viator, and they have confirmed that they've refunded your payment in full.

When we travel we always seek a different spa, local experience. We have done sand baths in Japan, Moroccan scrub and massage, and now we can add the mud baths. The staff make sure you do not exceed 25 to 20 minutes and the mud bath. Then we were in the hot springs back for about 20 minutes. Definitely appreciated they had shade over all the baths. Spouse and I shared the shower and to change. Take bathing suits that you don't ever want to use again. We are unable to get the mud fully out. Wound up just throwing them out. Nice little gift shop. Tour for the hell's Gate. The entrance was the best picture.
Another big thing to know is it is 2 hours from the port to get here. I don't know if I would have this knowing that.

Thank you for submitting your review. We would like to clarify that our literature does state that you are visiting a volcanic area and that the pools are sulphur, as reflected in your confirmation (Your swimwear and towels will have a sulphur smell to them after your experience and will need to be cleaned thoroughly. We recommend using old swimwear, or if you have any concerns to hire or buy from Hell’s Gate, subject to availability) Additionally, the travel time to and from Hell’s Gate is 1 hour, not 2 hours as you mention. The tour length is approx. 5 hours with 3 hours designated for the venue, this too is also advertised. The venue itself is indeed a great location and can be very hot hence the newly installed sun shades. We're glad you enjoyed the day.

Our destination of Hells gate was everything we expected and was an interesting and pleasant time.
However, our tour “guide” Don, was abysmal. We were greeted with jokes of “while I was waiting for you I was playing with my knob” (his pen) and “No, there are no snakes in NZ only trouser snakes”.
There was little or no commentary which didn’t really matter because we couldn’t hear him any way. We requested that he either speak up or use a pa, but the pa didn’t work properly, something I expected would have been tested prior to picking up passengers.
This was a very disappointing day.

Thank you for the feedback. We have discussed the matter with the driver, and we can definitively confirm that there was a misunderstanding regarding his statement. He mentioned that he accidentally dropped the knob from the end of his pen, and a lady standing nearby kindly picked it up for him. While he did encounter some issues with his PA system on that particular day, he assured us that he made sure everyone could hear him, and as it was a small group, others confirmed they heard him clearly. He extends his apologies for the 'snake' joke and acknowledges that, in hindsight, he will refrain from making such jokes with customers in the future. Throughout Don's many years as a driver/guide, he has consistently received excellent feedback and positive comments.
