        Brilliant
Stephen Appleton picked us up from our apartment in Tauranga for a tour to Hobbiton. A fantastic experience from a highly knowledgeable diver / guide.. Because we were one couple Stephen took us to places on the journey that maybe larger groups would not have had the opportunity to see. A thoroughly enjoyable day. Book with this company if you are wanting to be treated special.

Although the weather was poor, Stephen the tour operator was very attentive to our needs and comfort. He even provided gluten free homemade brownies, which were delicious. The tour bus was clean and in great shape, and safely driven. The narration to and from Hobbiton was excellent and he was able to provide a lot of insight due to him being a former Hobbiton tour driver. Because he was local his knowledge and history of the area we were being driven around was interesting, entertaining, and well informed. We recommend this tour to anyone wanting to visit Hobbiton or the area as a whole.

We booked a small group trip with Adventure and Cultural Tours Bay of Plenty to take us from Tauranga to Hobbiton. Stephen was very knowledgable regaling us with lots of information and stories. He supplied lots of snacks - homemade brownies were delicious - and water. On the way to Hobbiton we stopped at McLaren Falls and were able to get some great photo's. Hobbiton was fantastic especially with the newly opened Hobbit houses that were fully furnished. Rain was forecast so we took rain poncho's for Hobbiton but the weather was sunny and warm. Comfortable walking shoes are a good idea.

This was supposed to be a small group tour, but they had more clients them expected and singled the four of us out for a private tour. It was absolutely fantastic. Amanda showed us around the area on the way to Hobbiton. The countryside was so beautiful. The tour included the entry fees to Hobbiton where is she turn this over to their guide for the Hobbiton tour. Again absolutely fantastic and much more than we expected. The weather was beautiful and we had an absolutely fantastic day. I highly recommend this vendor. Steve and his wife Amanda are totally awesome.

This was a fantastic tour. Of course visiting the Hobbiton Movie Set was a highlight but I want to recommend this tour. We were picked up from a location just off the cruise ship in Tauranga. Easy to find. Amanda our driver was informative and entertaining on the trip there and we stopped of to see the amazing McLaren Falls along the way and a great lookout on the way back. Not only was the trip wonderful but Amanda provided water bottles and snacks, including HOME MADE BROWNIES which were scrumptious.
If you're planning a trip to the Hobbiton Movie Set I highly recommend taking this tour.

We were the first tour back in 2 years. Stephen you have not lost your touch!
Excellent tour, very knowledgeable about the area during the drive to Hobbiton, a lot of interesting facts. The Hobbiton tour takes about 2 hours and was a joy to walk around. The Ale at the Green Dragon Inn was very tasty. It was nice to put your comments about Hobbiton to use during the tour, especially the artifical tree, and your special leaves. The McLaren Falls hike was incredible in seeing all of the flora and ferns that are in NZ. Thanks to your Wife for providing the homemade brownies, that was an unexpected treat to a wonderful day!!

Amanda was an absolutely amazing and knowledgeable host. We stopped at a beautiful park and waterfall on our way to Hobbiton and had some morning tea with some homemade brownies(AMAZING)
It was a smaller tour group which I much preferred over a large buss as it was more intimate and much nicer to chat amongst the tour group.

Highly recommend and will use again on our next trip !

We loved our trip to Hobbiton. Alan was friendly, funny, and informative- an overall great tour guide. Hobbiton or “The Shire” was amazing with the attention to detail. I’ll include pictures. We actually saw Peter Jackson in his helicopter on the day we were there. Andrew was our guide at Hobbiton and you can tell that he loves his job - so happy and helpful. On the way back to the port, we stopped by a scenic overlook and at McLaren waterfalls- beautiful. We were offered snacks, including yummy homemade brownies, and water bottles at one of the stops. It was a wonderful experience!

Hobbiton was an amazing place to visit! Stephen with Adventure & Cultural Tours Bay of Plenty was wonderful. He was prompt, personable and informative. He kept us informed from start to finish via email pre-tour and stories he told along the way. The ride was comfortable--snacks and cold water were provided. McLaren Falls was a picturesque stop. Highly recommend for Hobbiton visit transportation.

Stephen was a fantastic guide and so easy going. Out tour was adapted to accommodate cruise ship times without sacrificing a tour of the town, stopping at McLaren Falls and other points of interest as well as having plenty of time to grab a bite to eat and drink before our designated tour time at Hobbiton. Never having watched The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, I had not expectations. Hobbiton is such a magical and charming place! Hobbiton and the Alexander farm is spectacular! Aside from the natural beauty of New Zealand, Hobbiton was by far the highlight of the 2 weeks I was traveling about NZ and should not be overlooked. If looking for a relaxing day around Tauranga without the need to drive, this tour is perfect.

New Zealand was a beautiful country to drive through and our visit to the Shire was more than we anticipated. We aren't super fans, but enjoyed the movies and books. The attention to detail at the set was incredible. So many photos I might have to make my own photo book about it. We got to walk into a furnished hobbit house, which was so detailed and beautiful. We also did a lovely little walk next to a waterfall on the way there. In the group of 11 we were easy to get in and out and on our way.
