Half Day Small-Group Tauranga Scenic Tour from Port
From US$54.74
Overview
It can be tough to explore the Bay of Plenty from a cruise ship; this half-day scenic tour takes away some of the difficulty. Drive around Pilot Bay and take in grand views of Tauranga Harbour, Matakana Island and the extinct volcano Mauao, a significant site to local Māori. Enjoy the sights at Mount Maunganui’s popular Main Beach, then drive inland to Paengaroa and visit Comvita, a world-famous honey producer.
What to Expect
After meeting your guide just outside the port gate at 10am, you will depart along Pilot Bay where you can see the great views across Tauranga Harbor to the city, and inner reaches of the harbor and Matakana Island. Pass Mauao, the iconic landmark of this area where you can see evidence of the early Maori settlements around the base of the mountain, and hear the Maori legend of how Mauao got his name.

As you pass by Mauao, you will arrive at one of New Zealands most popular beaches, "The Mount Main Beach," home of many major surfing competitions, beach volleyball  and a popular spot for locals and visitors to enjoy the beach front cafes and restaurants. Continue along the very affluent Marine Parade where some of New Zealand's most expensive homes are located, along with some stunning examples of the native Pohutukawa tree.  When you see the view out across the Pacific Ocean, you will realize why this is such a popular summer holiday destination.

Leaving Tauranga, you will head east towards Comvita the home of the honey bee and world famous Manuka honey. Hear the story behind one man's passion to blend nature, health and wellness together. Sample some of the many products available for purchase and used around the world.  Learn how they support and benefit our health. There's time to purchase a delicious Manuka Honey ice cream before you head to our next destination.

A short drive will take you to Kiwifruit Country where you can walk right under the Kiwifruit vines.  You will hear about the industry sample kiwifruit, juices, jams, chutneys and ice cream, or pick up a memento of your visit to the orchard. Finally, it’s a brief stop at an Avocado orchard before we head back to your ship via Tauranga city for a great photo opportunity of your ship and Mount Maunganui before you head back over the harbor bridge.
