      Awesome place to visit
Rotorua Maori Village was a great experience. Many good highlights including our driver Duncan, who shared many insights and knowledge.

      POOR POOR and POOR
what a waste of time and money, wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking to enjoy their holiday, it was as simple as tasting honey on a stick dipped in a jar and a taste of a small piece of kiwifruit while sitting in a forest.....that was it......... Then a quick look at a lake which was a waste of time then only 30 minutes to get lunch and eat it. Wouldn't do it again, not what we were expecting

Lord of the Rings Hobbiton Movie Set Tour
Used Zealander Tours to book a visit to the Hobbiton movie set of The Lord of the Rings. It was a fun tour. They had a nice bus for the drive out to the site. This is a great place for any fans of the movies. Worth the price. Zealander Tours were excellent to work with. We used their website to make all the arrangements. Worked very smoothly.

Would have been a better day staying in port
The tour didn’t follow the defined itinerary with very limited stops aside from the main attraction in Rotorua (there was no waterfall, we didn’t stop at the gardens or the mountain, only drove past). Added a stop at a kiwi farm, but we just stopped at the side of the road and looked at the plants. The tour guide didn’t seem particularly interested in being there, and wasn’t helpful while on the tour (apparently we had a booking for lunch but he made no effort to actually find the table or communicate to the group). Rotorua was very cool but that part of the tour was run by the local village. Top tip - just spend the day in Tauranga, the port is absolutely beautiful, with stunning beaches and a mountain you can walk around or climb.

      Save your $
We were so looking forward to this tour. Sadly, within the first half hour after a joke was made about women and shopping I knew this was going to be less about the commentary and hopefully the scenic side would make up for it. Unfortunately with a couple of 5 minute stops not long enough to explore the surroundings, my disappointment was lingering. The last straw of the morning after paying over $400 for a “quality tour” we were dropped at the mall to buy our lunch in the food court! wtf? Finally we arrived at the Maori village and a real guide gave us some interesting information, history and a nice tour. Following from this, the return consisted of more boring commentary about the colour of cows, supermarkets and enthralling details on walkways to islands and real estate. So glad I paid good hard earned money to experience the real NZ - said no-one.

Brilliant Rotorua tour including Hell's Gate mud baths
Although there were only 2 of us in this small group tour, the owner/manager gave the go-ahead for this tour. As we were only there for one day on a cruise shore excursion, and since mud baths were a highlight of my whole trip, I was very grateful for this. The bonus is that we had the best driver/guide, Stephen. He explained everything along the way, giving us context and info about NZ culture. Very knowledgeable, very professional. We got a lot more than just the Hell's Gate mud baths - tours of other hot spring areas, description of life along the way to Rotorua, cultural and economic info, etc. We had a lovely afternoon tea as our lunch. The mud baths were good fun - best to wear an old bathing suit because you may never get the sulphur smell out! The timing of everything was perfect - long enough here and there, and we were returned to our ship bang on time. Highly recommend this company, this tour, and this guide.

      A cracking tour to Hobbiton
Our cruise ship arrived at short notice, and Jan was able to put together a brilliant tour to Hobbiton at short notice. She is well organised, friendly and thoughtful and gave us a great and memorable day. 100% to you and your company Jan.

Pick up and return to the ship very timely. Our guide-driver was friendly and knowledgeable. Far cheaper than the ship excursion and far more personalised. Recommended.

      Day excursion in Tauranga
My wife and I along with another couple recently visited Tauranga, New Zealand on a cruise vacation to the south Pacific. While there, we took this day excursion to the Maori village. This endeavor was very interesting to see the native rituals of this beautiful New Zealand area. We enjoyed our time and would recommend this excursion.

Tour great / company not so much
I thought the tour was awesome - guide was amazing. My issue is with the tour company. My husband wasn’t feeling well the night before - I sent an email stating my husband was not feeling well - I never heard from them. The tour was scheduled for March 29th which was Easter weekend. I emailed them on March 28th and again on March 29th following the tour. Telling them it was an amazing tour and passed them for some consideration. I heard back from them April 2nd, telling me to file a claim with my travel insurance, for last minute cancellations. I emailed back and explained it was not last minute - it was the night before. NO RESPONSE. Since my friend and I still went on their tour, I thought some consideration could have been given. Especially since they waited 3 days to respond to me.

This tour was amazing, our favorite place in New Zealand. We saw so many things and learned about the Māori culture, saw giant redwoods, kiwi and had the most amazing tour guide, Don't miss it!

We were picked up outside the port as we came off a cruise. There was much to see, MtMaunganui area on route, stopped at Hairy McLarey andFrinds sculptures, Tauringa beach area, drove around Tauranga andwere to stop at Elms MissionHouse, but due to two other coaches there,we missed out as nowhere to park. Then we stopped at Gate Pa where therewas a battle between the Maori and the British over their land. This was ina pleasant Park with signage about the battle.
Fromthere wewent to MacLaren Falls, Lakeand Park.We walked a short distance to the falls which weren;t very high, however a pleasant area. Then we stopped at the Lake for photos of theunusual swans, supposedly introduced from Australia when NZ swans became extinct. Thenwewatched downover abridgesomeswimming in the very rocky waterholes.
Minden Lookout in Minden Hills had great views from Te Punato Tauranga suburbs, the harbour and even a great shot of our Sea Princess Cruise ship there.MtMaunganui, was glued to its spot, as the Maori story goes. we were fortunate enough to geta drop ata supermarket on the way back for some supplies.
i believe MacLaren Falls andLake is even more beautiful in Autumn. the driver had us back in good timefor ourdinner and departure on board.

Adrienne was very interesting! As a native Zealander, her Māori heritage & Maori information was personal & very interesting. She also went above & beyond with talk about kiwi & took us to see the vines & also planned a tasting of 3 different types of kiwi fruit & juice. We also received dried kiwi of 2 types to take with us! Adrienne stopped at a beautiful park (McLaren Falls) for us to take a short stroll to the Falls & beautiful forest. We also had a stop with delicious fresh huge biscuits & lattes! Wonderful driver & wonderful commentary!

This was such a well-rounded, knowledgeable and fun tour. Jan picked us up from the cruise terminal in a comfortable small group van. She showed us around the Bay of Plenty, the coast and historic landmarks, including many interesting facts about the Maori. We passed many farms and stopped on the way to waterfalls to take a lookout point photo. A special treat was the cafe near the falls with homemade muffins accompanied with tea, coffee or lattes. We walked a short distance in the rainforest to McLaren Falls which was beautiful. We sampled local Manuka honey and learned its health benefits. We also sampled 4 kinds of kiwi and took home dehydrated kiwi (yum). We stopped and saw how the kiwi grew, which was fascinating. Then we went by for a hokey pokey ice cream which was very good and has a bit of crunch. Jan answered all our questions, took us to places that weren't even on the list, and made this tour very engaging for everyone. I know everyone was very pleased with this tour. And she got us back to the shopping area near our ship or dropped us at the ship before our time ran out. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our time with Jan in Tauranga. I definitely recommend it.

Tauranga is a beautiful, productive area. Jan, our guide, was quite good, knowing so much about all aspects of the towns and rural areas we traveled through. The bus was comfortable and the ac worked well. As it was a hot, sunny day that was greatly appreciated by all.

The tour included the resort homes of the wealthy, homes for we regular people, farming, mountain areas. We went to the site of the Battle of Gate Pa. Wish we’d had more time, but Google will fill in the gaps. Also to a wildlife park. The Maori culture is greatly respected in all of New Zealand as evidenced in each city we visited, including here.

Treats were given several times as we traveled. That’s always good. In all, the tour was well worth it.

I picked this tour for our cruise visit. We were met as advised near the port entrance. Our driver, Adrienne took our small group on this lovely tour, she gave us an informative commentary about Tauranga and surrounds. The waterfall visit was a beautiful walk through lush forest with beautiful tress and ferns along the way. There are 16 steps at the falls if you want to make it a round trip but if you can't just turn around and go the back the way you came, it's much the same. My friend with a walker was able to negotiate the steps with a little assistance. After coffee and a huge muffin (included) it was so nice to taste the kiwifruits and local honeys as well. I recommend this tour, it was great fun and good value!

Do not book this trip-on-trip advisor. I had booked this tour months before but when I arrived, I was not on the list for the 10 am tour, as they made the guests of the ship as priority who booked on the day. The lady I dealt with was really rude and would not accommodate us and said I had to wait another 1 hour and get on the 10.30 am

Hi, These tours are Shore Excursions as per the tour title but this does not stop others joining the tour - but you must be aware that we run these tours to fit with cruise ships timeframes and maybe on this occasion we had to slide tours to fit the ships times and maybe you were put into the tour which departs at 10.30, which is only 30 mins after the 10am tour departure time. As you have not given your name or the date you went on this tour - I can not look into the reason behind this or if you were even on one of our tours - as there are other operators whoo run similar tours from port of Tauranga. Is sounds like you may not had been from a cruise ship ? I am sorry you felt that your needs were not met on the day and you had to wait for the later tour departure time. I hope you enjoyed the tour content.

The complimentary coffee and muffins (huge) were delicious 🤤. The views and locations were gob smacking 😮. We took some ripper pics. Absolutely loved the honey and kiwi 🥝 tasting. Oh and don’t forget to enjoy the Hokey Pokey ice cream too.

Phillip greeted us and was very friendly. Our bikes had been prepared and we were ready to go. Phillip was very helpful with information about where to go and how far different places were. This was helpful as we were off a cruise ship and needed to be back to catch the shuttle bus in time. Would highly recommend this bike hire shop.

Under the supervision of our driver Ken, we gained a great insight into the landscape and the way of life of the people in and around Tauranga. From the wild green nature in the bush of the hills around Tauranga, we visited a waterfall, saw kiwi fields, and also visited the historic battlefield of Gate Pa. Ken, who is of Maori origin, shared his extensive knowledge and many personal details with us. The stops along the way were great, the largest muffin in the world, the honey and kiwi tasting, and the ice cream specialty at the end. An absolute bargain for the cost of the excursion.
