          Kiwis!
My husband and I had a fantastic day with Paul going to the Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House! Both stops were beyond our expectations. The day was well planned with a stop for lunch and a little wander around town.

Fabulous tour of Waitomo Caves & Kiwi House! Highly recommend!
Fabulous tour with Paul (owner of Tauranga Tasting Tours) .. Paul took us to the Waitomo Caves and the Kiwi House. The tour was extensive and Paul was professional and so knowledgeable! We loved the tour to see the glowworms and we even got to see a Kiwi bird at the sanctuary (very exciting because these birds are nocturnal and very elusive!). We had a wonderful day and highly recommend this tour company!

All good but for the tour guide
The tour was pretty good but for the unnecessary commentary from our guide Paul. He was especially harsh when describing properties now owned by The Māori and how they've done nothing with it 'as usual'. I personally did not appreciate his negative slant on the entire Māori population. He should have kept his predudices to himself. It was a real spoiler for us. The places he took us to , the caves, the Kiwi House and the honey producer were great, however his lunch spot was seedy with exceptionally poor service. I would not recommend this tour with this particular guide. Time for him to retire.

What a fun day out with like minded people. We visited a wide variety of artisans who happily shared the knowledge and back stories. We got to taste, cheese, Macadamias, wine, chocolate and a great lunch at a seaside cafe. We discovered people and food not generally known, even to the locals. Would go again.

Gallivanting Gourmet Tasting Tour Mt Maunganui and Tauranga
The. Company is owner operated by Lyn and Paul, both of whom were a pleasure to deal with. The tour was 10 people which made if feel more like a group of friends rather than just a number on bigger tours. We were picked up from and returned to our home and because there were two of us we got a discount. First part of call was Elspeths Bakery where we sat under a pohutokowa tree and sampled cream and jam scones and Danish pastry. Then it was off to the Crossing to visit Pepper and me and Tauranga Hemp Farm at both venue we had samples and a talk - very enjoyable. Then it was off to lunch decorated with edible flowers at Bloom Cafe in Decor Garden Centre, Bethlehem - lunch was delicious and afterwards we had a tour of the garden and a talk about growing veg and herbs which produced edible flowers. Next stop Cider O in Te Puna where we sampled the different varieties of cider, fortunately Paul knows about wine tasting so was able to tell us how to taste them so we got full benefit. Then it was off to Vetro on 3rd Ave for more tasting of interesting, unusual foods. The tour lasted roughly 8 hours from pick up to drop off and it was an extremely nice way to spend my birthday on the first day of summer. So thank you Paul for a wonderful day and maybe on the next tour we take we will meet your wife Lyn. Thank you for checking vaccination status I really appreciated that. I have posted some photos and we will definitely be back for other tours. Highly recommend this company.

          Excellent tour!
We had a wonderful day exploring the Waitomo glow worm caves, kiwi sanctuary and the countryside of the Tauranga area. Our guide Bron was great. She is very informative and makes sure you get to see everything you want....including Hokey Pokey ice cream! Our tour was almost 7 hours long but the time flew as we enjoyed every minute of it. We would highly recommend this tour and company!

          Great tour to see Tauranga
The Rotorua Cultural and Geothermal Experience tour was a lot of fun. Seeing geysers, boiling lakes and a Maori cultural village with a very entertaining show were interesting and fun. Paul, our tour guide was very helpful, and extremely informative. For someone who has only a brief time to spend in the Tauranga area, this tour provides an excellent overview of the New Zealand native culture, and its unique topography.

          Waitomo Caves and Kiwi House
We chose to book this tour via Viator rather than through Viking Orion. In fact Viking did not offer a true tour of the glow worm caves. We found the tour guide, who is also the owner of Tauranga Tasting Tours, Paul just fabulous. We were in a small SUV (A very private personal tour) and rode throughout the very beautiful New Zealand Farmland (Though brown from drought). We saw many different items and Paul had significant knowledge of the Maori culture, the farm and dairy industry, Kiwi birds and fruit, glow worms, hydro power and Tauranga industry. This tour is a must. The glow worms were worth the long trip (About 2- 2 1/2 Hours). The tour was very nice. The caves are well guided and the worms were/are beautiful. We did see the pair of Kiwis in their nocturnal habitat. We had to move quickly to meet our cruise times, so we couldn't dally. We also ate local food for lunch that was quite interesting and good. This is a perfect reason why to book outside of the cruise line. The tour was priced better than most tours by Viking and was truly awesome. They got us back in plenty of time to re-embark as well. I cannot say enough good things about Paul.

          Better than expected
The concert was entertaining and explained some of the Maori culture. The performers seemed to enjoy what they were doing especially when the guests performed the haka under their direction. A truly enjoyable hour. The thermal springs were interesting but was crowded as a large tour bus unloaded at about the same time as we arrived. Kiwis were hiding and we failed to see any. Over all worth the $.

          Fantastic Tour
Bron, our guide, met us right at the port and took us to the Waitomo Caves and on the way pointed out local sights. From there we went to The Kiwi House where we were lucky enough to spot 2 Kiwis. It was an excellent all day tour and we returned to the ship in a timely fashion.

          Excellent full day
We were met at the wharf and continued with a comprehensive history of the area. Along the way we visited a Kiwi Fruit farm with sample tastings, the old Hydro plant before getting to the geothermal. Our timing was perfect and our driver was able to get to the geyser while still active. We were then conducted throughout the area culminating with the Maori Experience.

This was a lovely day out and about experiencing some of the sites of Tauranga and Rotorua. We had a small group which was excellent as we were able to get to know Paul and utilise some of his experience in the area and in wines. He was super friendly and accomodating and we felt very welcome. Would definitely recommend it as a nice way to go and see the sites supporting an awesome local operator. My one piece of feedback was to potentially look at getting the van regassed for the aircon or replaced as it was a little hot in the back and maybe wasn't ideal on a hot day to be sweating quite a bit, but I had already flagged this with Paul at the time.

Excellent excursion with Paul. Not your everyday scenic tour, but a great local experience. A brewery stop with a tasting flight, followed by a charming lunch, then a detailed wine tasting at a local winery. We ended at the marina with a gourmet dessert and cocktail. Paul provided just the right amount of commentary; local sights, kiwi farm, etc. He was punctual, professional, and congenial. We had a nice day and would definitely recommend this tour.

Paul was waiting for us when we got off the ship with a sign with our name on it. He was very organized and super nice, We were unable to go to the winery that day and he felt badly so we did everything else as advertised and then he took us to a very nice- nicest restaurant that I have ever been on on a tour- and paid for our lunch and bought us wine! His van was clean and nice and he also took us to a lovely yacht club for drinks, too.

it's always difficult to know what to do when, at the last minute, venues become unavailable. Rather than cancel the tour, we tried to ensure that you were not disappointed in your day. We're so glad that the alternatives were to your liking! Thank you for your understanding & great company.

Staying with family in the Mount we had a free day, contacted Lyn on Monday night to be told there was availability for Tuesday, very responsive to enquiry.
Paul picked us up at our accommodation, rang ahead of time to ensure he knew the location.
Paul was a fabulous guide giving us information on the area, taking us to sample beer/cider/gin. He took us to see kiwi/avocado farms then on to lunch in a beautiful restaurant. Next stop was the winery, we sampled 8 wines to which Paul provided information and answered any questions we had. Our day finished with another beautiful restaurant stop for dessert and a cocktail, getting dropped back to our accommodation. An all round fabulous day.
A small intimate group as there was only the two of us and another couple from a cruise ship. Good luck with your future trips.

The owner / tour guide / driver was excellent in explaining many local cultural developments and business contributions for this area including primary labor occupations and import/export products. Paul took us to a local Tauranga microbrewery for a beer, gin or cider sampling with 5 selections on a paddle, picked from 35 or more locally made drinks. While sampling our drinks, Paul gave a summary of beer making using stainless steel tanks and described the ingredients in detail. Next, we took a ~ 1 hour drive to Rotorua, where we rode a gondola (cable car) up the side of a mountain to the wine tasting location on the summit. The owner of Volcanic Hills Winery Tasting Room (at the top of the Skyline Gondola) was Brent, and he did a great job describing the primary wines grown in New Zealand and we had 5 samples for tasting along with a platter of lunchmeat, Gorgonzola cheese, red pepper chutney, and rye and white bread. After that we were driving back to the port as Paul stopped on the side of the road and showed us a kiwi farm (behind tall hedges for wind protection) and told us about the differences between green and gold versions of the kiwi fruit (or Chinese Gooseberry). Lastly, we stopped at a local marina and bar about 3 miles from the port where our ship was docked and we proceeded to have cocktails and a dessert. Back to the ship and now it’s time for dinner. Oh the life onboard a cruise ship…

My sister and I had a wonderful time visiting a winery, a brewery, a nice restaurant, and a bar restaurant near the Marina in Tauranga. Our tour guide, Paul, was the best. He was very knowledgeable and shared local information while driving us around. Each location we visited was excellent. I highly recommend this tour if you want to get local knowledge and visit several places without having to drive!

The car was a luxury limosine. We ate and drank so well and so much at the first two stops we cancelled the last two. We were full and everything was delicious. The driver knew the history of the area and went out of his way to discover what we wanted to do and to do it. I am really glad we found the Taranga Tasting tour and we met Paul. I will definitely book another of their tours if I I am in Tauranga

What a fabulous day we had with Paul, his guided tour was exceptional. Showing us around Mt Manganui and Tauranga was very informative. With it being Kiwi fruit picking season, we saw them being loaded at the port, he showed us a kiwi fruit farm and explained how it all works. Onto the craft brewery where we had a tasting paddle, very nice beer, cider and gin. After visiting a lookout we had a 2 course lunch at the White House restaurant, fabulous food. Went to the only winery and was privileged to be able to have a taste of 8 wines. Back into Tauranga we stopped for a dessert and cocktail. A great way to end our tour. I highly recommend a day out with this company

We did wine testing and cider factory for our friends leaving party. Lyn and Paul were great! Paul had awssome knowledge about wine and was very nice to talk to. We were prety loud girls, but he didn't mind. Great experience for anyone! When my family will come over from Európe i will definitely book this tour again! Highly recommend! Thank you!
