- rhoxanef0 contributionsDon't be afraid to book this while solo travelling!!It was such a lovely day not only because the weather was amazing! The guys were not only super kind but also made sure we got all out questions answered. We even did some fishing that day! Plus they invited us to stay on the boat even after the tour was over to sail with the next tour. we need more tourist guides like you! Thanks for everything :)Written 2 April 2024

- Journey294627106230 contributionsSuperb! Quality not Quantity!Dave ,Jess and the crew of Tiua probably were expecting a "group from hell". 25 geriatrics - schoolmates and spouses on a 25th reunion. Age, impairments, dietary issues and maybe finicky..... Well, Dave and the crew (and the Tiua) sized up our needs immediately and delivered the perfect cruise, commentary and brunch. The boat is made for comfortable conversation, which was only interrupted when facts and figures enhanced our experience. Superb! NZ Tourism tries to embrace "Quality" not "Quantity". Dave and Jess hit the target. Read their Story to enhance your experience.Written 20 February 2024
- martinuC8908ZI0 contributionsPerfect for the whole family young and old.We loved it. Usually the boat trips can get boring, but not with this one. There was always something happening. Instead of just going back after looking at the carvings, we went for a lovely swim and sailed for a bit. The whole thing was totally worth it. Will do it again.Written 28 January 2024
- Rossadops0 contributions5 star tour, superb crew!Would highly recommend to anyone staying in Lake Taupo and wanting a trip out on the lake! Very attentive crew who go above and beyond to ensure you have a great time! Great experience with the sails up feeling the breeze on your face whilst taking in the beautiful scenery of the magnificent lake! Thanks again to all the crew for such a great experience!Written 25 January 2024
- Sherpa170311115430 contributionsWir sind begeistertWe spontaneously decided to take this tour and we are thrilled. Contacted at short notice, thank you Jess, it worked great. a big thank you. The two Crew member were super nice and informative. The sailboat is completely sufficient with everything you need for a few hours of time out. Unfortunately no wind for sailing. You should watch the Maori rock carving and then cool down with a jump into the crater lake.Written 21 January 2024

- stacdlawr0 contributionsSuper chilled crossingMy partner and I did this boat trip yesterday, given a Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza and a choice of drink we were ready to settle into the 1hr boat trip to the carving, with some interesting facts given about Taupō en route. The boat got in close to the carvings for some great photos, before we started to head back, stopping for a long swim opportunity on the way, where you could climb down into the tranquil blue bay we’d moored in, or if feeling adventurous jumping off the top of the boat. Super friendly crew with a great chilled playlist for the journey and comfy deck seats to kick back on.Written 14 January 2024
- Robert K0 contributionsJet River Boat RideThe river ride was awesome. The 360 turns and jumps were crazy good. Jacob was very informative about the river and dam. Speeds up to 90 km/hrs were exilerating. Great job Jacob.Written 11 January 2024
- Rloague0 contributionsWonderful trip even in all weatherIt rained and the crew changed us to a catamaran. Even though it was misty rainwe loved the trip. We sat outside and watched the view. The crew was very informative and friendly. The rock carvings were beautiful. The crew gave history talks on the whole area. Then everyone jumped off for a swim. Great tour. Highly recommendWritten 25 December 2023
- Fred H0 contributionsA waste of time!Total tourist waste of time. The carvings are only 40 years old, done to attract tourists. So nothing felt truly authentic. Why bother?Written 6 December 2023
- OregonBex0 contributionsYou must sail on Taupo! The entire experience from start to finish was fabulous. The weather, the boat, the pizza and beer, the briskness of the water, and of course, the guide Nathan! The carvings were awesome to see in real life and so close...you can't get the full appreciation of the carvings unless you get up close. Highly recommend. Did not disappoint.Written 30 November 2023
- Madeline E0 contributionsGreat afternoon on Lake Taupo! We had also much fun sailing with Nathan and Aaron! We motored out to the beautiful Māori carvings and got to swim off the boat in a calm cove. Then we sailed back to the marina, and Nathan let our young kids “steer” the boat. They loved it!! Highly recommend to everyone visiting the area.Written 27 November 2023

My husband and I made a last-minute change to our plans in order to sail o Tiua and are SO glad we did! This catamaran is absolutely beautiful, and we were blessed with a perfect day of weather to join Dave & Jess on this sailing trip. We happened to be the only guests that day so got a bit of private time to relax in the bean bag chairs on the catamaran nets. We felt so relaxed the entire time on board and enjoyed chatting with Dave & Jess--they were both so knowledgeable about the area and Maori history! Tiua is a relatively new boat to sailing Lake Taupo. If you are considering a sailing tour, I highly recommend this one!

I can't say enough positive things about this sailing experience! :) We weren't sure what to expect coming into it, but we had such a wonderful time on the water. The crew is friendly, professional, and personable. The boat is comfortable and large enough for the group. It was cold for us, but they had blankets and hot drinks at the ready.
We sailed around and listened to interesting information about the lake, area, and of course, the Māori Rock Carvings. It was relaxing, enjoyable, and we learned more about the area. Highly recommend for any visitors to Taupo! :)

If you’re looking for a boat tour in Taupo, book your trip on Tiua!! We had an excellent experience! The boat was very comfortable and easy to walk around throughout the trip. There is a nice seating section inside where we were able to stay dry during a short lived rainfall. The front trampolines had multiple bean bags and areas to sit during the tour. We stopped for a swim in crystal clear water near the carvings. There was great service on board with free pizza and one free drink with the option to purchase additional drinks. The sailing portion was a blast! The captain and mate were highly knowledgeable and made sure everyone had a great experience! As we saw other tour boats, it was clear that we had the best experience and most comfortable boat. Highly recommend!

Great fun, a beautiful catamaran and excellent crew. The outward bound trip, into a strong headwind and 1m waves was bouncy and fun. The view of the rock carvings and the return voyage (under sail) were very smooth and relaxing. The opportunity to swim in the lake was great fun ( for those of us brave enough to jump!). Overall an excellent day and good value.

Wonderful weather for sightseeing. Lovely views on the catamaran ride across the lake to the Māori carving (newish) which the tour host explained well. Comfortable boat; coffee, tea annd biscuits offered.
Alas no wind, tho the skipper tried his best to find some, so it was motoring all the way!

Our families had a fabulous time. The weather was horrible so we were moved onto a luxurious catamaran, it was awesome. The crew were brilliant, passionate about their boat, ensuring everyone was happy and catered for. We enjoyed pizza and complementary drink. Visited the Maori Rock carvings. We all swam in the crystal lake waters which was fantastic. On the return journey they hoisted the sail which our boys helped with. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Thank you for a really wonderful time.

Thoroughly enjoyed this experience on the Tiua. There were bean bags and plenty of places to sit. Dave and Steph were knowledgeable about Lake Taupo, the mountains and of course the Maori Carvings. I never realized there were so many. We stopped off for a swim and the water was a beautiful green colour as you swam between the hulls. Magic! Dave tried to set the sails but alas not enough wind. We are coming back when it is a windy day!

Amazing experience run by a very professional outfit. Despite there being quite a few people on board who not sailors, I never felt unsafe. With drinks and food laid on we had a lovely cruise in slightly choppy waters. It was great fun when we went under sail. Fully recommend

This is an incredible experience! We were only 6 people on board, and we felt very privileged being there. There were hot drinks and biscuits in the 9.30am trip which were appreciated with the cold weather. The explanations, the experience everything was excellent. Dany and David were the perfect hosts for this experience! We strongly recommend them!
