Perfect length of trip even though I hadn’t paddled for months. Great way to really feel you’ve really engaged with the lake beyond just looking at it and swimming briefly around the edges. Expert guide - felt totally secure even when wind made things a bit rough.

Our family of six had a brilliant morning paddling out to see the Maori carvings on Lake Taupo. Our guide, Laura from Taupo Canoe and Kayak, was helpful, cheerful and full of information on the significant points of interest during the paddle. Only two of us had any practical experience of kayaking but Laura was very supportive of those who didn't have any experience. The weather was perfect, the swim at the beach near the carvings was very refreshing and the overall experience was brilliant. We can easily recommend Taupo Canoe and Kayak for their professional approach and providing a really rewarding experience.

A blue bird morning on Lake Taupo without a breath of wind making it perfect for a paddle out to the carving of Ngatoroirangi.

Our guide, Jar, was awesome, knowledgeable and most of all safe, helping out all members of the party from the novices to the more experienced, making it an enjoyable experience for all.

Some good coffee and laughs along the way with the opportunity for a swim in the crystal clear lake at half way was a perfect summer morning adventure.

One of our party of two was most disappointed she forgot her togs - but otherwise this was a fantastic afternoon on the water. This is a must if you're in Taupo.

This was the first time kayaking for my wife but Laura was a great coach and guide for the afternoon. The weather was beautiful with a light breeze and the kayaks and equipment (I've never used splash skirts before) were all excellent. We made easy work getting to the Maori carvings (pretty incredible to see in real life) and then went around the corner to a quiet beach for a swim and a coffee ☕ 👌👌. Yes the water is cold but just make sure you wear your togs anyway! Nothing better than swimming in Taupo's crystal clear water!

Then we came back into a slight headwind but was pretty easy all the way. Laura gave us continued coaching (I started with my oar upside-down...) and commentary of the lake and mountains etc. She really made the afternoon so enjoyable.

This tour is a no-brainer. Easy to do, very unique and very enjoyable!

We arrived at the Canoe and Kayak shop before 9am and met the other participants. After a briefing we boarded the van and drove the short distance to the starting point. Jayden gave us an excellent explanation of what to expect and how to adjust the settings on the kayaks. We set off and had an enjoyable paddle around to the rock carvings and were also given the story behind the carvings. After going ashore for a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits we set off again on the return journey. All in all it was a great morning with a relaxed atmosphere and the trip was well-run. Highly recommended!

It was great to have the opportunity to show you the view from the other side of the lake. It's awesome when we get to explore our backyard and realise it's every bit as beautiful as some of the more exotic places that we can't see this year. Hope you and your family have an amazing summer.

My favourite part was the hospitality of our instructor Juliet. She was lovely with guiding us through the whole tour as well as being patient with us all. We had a few moments where we capsized haha but she was very patient with us and we all had a laugh about it, which I found amusing. Juliet is very experienced in kayaking and well educated in the culture behind Lake Taupo and the Maori Carvings. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is wanting to understand the culture behind the maori carvings and also just have fun knowing that you're under fun and experienced supervision. Thank you so much Juliet for a memorable tour, my brothers and I had a blast! Definately would come back again!

A fantastic half-day trip with Laura. One of the best pre-paddle briefings we have had. The safety equipment and Laura's skill should give even the most nervous paddler confidence to give it a go. Then on a misty cloudy day we were guided out to the Maori carvings - we loved the atmosphere created by the weather. Lots of information shared by Laura about the area and the carvings along with good French press coffee and bikkies. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much for the lovely review. We love being able to welcome everyone to our tours, whether confident and experienced or not - it's great to share some of our favourite places on the lake with everyone. Glad you got to see the lake in a different light - it's pretty special to see on the slightly grey days with dramatic clouds and light. Thanks for coming.

The Guide Jayden was very knowledgeable and friendly bloody handy in a kayak too. Things got a little choppy heading out but we handled it well under good instruction. This trip is well worth doing, my only advice know you’re limits, the weather on the lake is changeable and you may have to grunt it out.

Thanks for the review. Glad you felt safe and well-looked after by Jayden. With such a large lake (as big as Singapore!!!) we do sometimes get a bit choppy. We like to think our tour is set up so that anyone is able to get stuck in and enjoy their trip to the carvings - double sea kayaks for double the power, kayaks designed to be out in large waves on the ocean with rudders so that you can steer easily. Our guides are always happy to give good advice about technique to cope with slight blusters too. Hopefully it's made you enthusiastic about kayaking on the sea where you'll see a few more waves as well!

The activity and day was as close to a perfect, fun activity as you’re going to get.

I think it helped that we were lucky enough to have a beautiful day of sunshine too.

Tammy, our guide, was professional and knowledgeable and made the day even more special.

Whilst it is a long way to kayak, anybody with a mild level of fitness would be able to complete it. There is plenty of time to stop and take in the scenery and no pressure to rush at all.

The carvings are a special thing to have said you have seen and something that I would highly recommend doing if and when you get the chance.

Just an all-round good day! Great stuff.
