- wendyannes20190 contributionsLast minute booking - loved it!A last minute booking that was so worth it. Lovely relaxed crossing, facilities excellent, guides fabulous. And an impromptu bottle of Verve Clique to add the sparkle. Highly recommend and NO age bias at all.Written 11 January 2025
- jacobbacob0 contributionsSpectacular sunset cruise!!!Absolutely super time spent with Danny and Liam on the sunset cruise trip! They were very professional, super knowledgeable and after my girlfriends phone fell in the lake, really helped to ease the pain with a glass of wine. Thank you lads, and would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking at doing it, you won't be disappointed!!!Written 10 January 2025
- Connector101892693980 contributionsGreat ExperienceGreat views and a relaxing way to see the Lake. The Carving was great to see up close. For those brave enough for the cold, the swim certainly looked memorable.Written 8 January 2025
- darrenh900 contributionsWindy, some fun swells! We had a nice time. Started out with some sketchy weather, quite windy! The crew was terrific… they got us to the carving. Interesting sight for sure. We did get very lucky as the sun made an appearance for our return trip. The best things were the crew and just being on the water. I would recommend this excursion if you have a couple of hours and want to enjoy some time on the lake.Written 30 December 2024
- 953nataliao0 contributionsSmooth sailing tour! This boat tour was amazing and serene! We took a morning tour, so there wasn't much wind, but the guides more than made up for that. They have a lot of knowledge of the area, answered every question, and created a great, laid back vibe. Jumping off the boat into the water was an added bonus!Written 25 December 2024
- Gee_platts0 contributionsKindred spirit maori rock carving sail cruise10/10 would recommend kindred spirit sailing boat. This was the second time I’ve booked with them and not the last! It was safe, informative and simply just beautiful!Written 23 December 2024

- Chung1130 contributionsSailing on Lake Taupo with visit to Māori Rock CarvingsMy husband and I visited Taupo for Ironman 70.3 World Championship but wanted to tour the local area. We saw the opportunity to sail Taupo Lake and see the Māori Rock Carvings and couldn’t pass up the opportunity. After a quick check in, we boarded the assigned sail boat. We were on our way after a short safety briefing. The water was smooth as we departed the Marina. When volunteers were asked to help hoist the sail, I jumped at the opportunity. A team of 4 passengers led by a staff member, we quickly raised the sail to the top position. Later, my husband and I each had a chance to drive the boat. Woohoo!! So much fun! We stopped to see the rock carvings and made a stop for the gutsy folks who wanted to swim in their bathing suits. The water was too cold for me without a wetsuit. We enjoyed watching and cheering them on. We also enjoyed wine and snack on board before heading back to the Marina. This experience is highly recommended!!Written 16 December 2024
- stephaniefC2120CK0 contributionsWonderful experience! This was a wonderful experience. Beautiful boat. Awesome tour guides! Provided us with sunscreen and lovely beverage. We got to take a quick swim in the water too! I highly recommend!Written 16 December 2024
- hpgoh0 contributionsNiceEnjoy the relaxing sunset at different locations on the nice clean yacht. Equipped with toilets. Kids had a chance to steer the yacht too :=)Written 11 December 2024
- CharmaineS900 contributionsFabulous and highly recommendedThis was the perfect way to celebrate my son's 30th birthday with a luxury cruise on Tiua. We couldn't have gotten a better view sitting comfortably on the bow with the young ones seated on bean bags positioned on the trampoline. To the stern there was also a sheltered indoor area and cockpit. To change into our togs, we were able to use the private cabins with toilets to change into our bathers. Jumping off the yacht was such a thrill for all but there was also the option of stairs to access the water for a dip. Drinks are available over the bar, and we were able to bring our nibbles platter. The crew went over and above, and I thank them for making this a memorable occasion with their assistance, knowledge on the Māori carvings and surroundings. Great we got to have a sail too.Written 11 December 2024

- vagabondzen0 contributionsDisappointed in the Blatant Pass Off to Another CruiseI booked the smaller boat trip on Kindred Spirit. At time of booking they had an option for a reservation that included 1 drink (beer or wine) and pizza. We booked this option. A month before the trip, we were emailed to say they were not offering pizza anymore on the November trips, so instead they would give us a 2nd beer or wine drink for free. Well, not free really, but you get the idea. When we arrived for the sailing, we were told to be there 30 minutes early. The skipper showed up 10 mins early. Frustrating, as we were in town and could have spent that extra time enjoying that instead of waiting for someone to check us in. When the skipper got there, he informed us that the winds and waves were too strong on the lake for the Kindred Spirit and so the 8 of us that had booked a smaller boat for a more private experience were added to an existing charter on the Tiua catamaran. Fun Fact: The charter had included pizza. So, after being told they would not be providing pizza, I got to watch the charter guests eat their pizza during the cruise on the now over-crowded catamaran. By the way, there were not rough waves or strong winds... certainly not too strong for the small motor boats we saw, or the kayaks, or the kids that had literally SWAM to the Maori Carvings from nearby on the lake. What there was, however, was enough room to squeeze the 8 of us that had booked Kindred Spirit onto the Tiua and save them all some money on gas. Needless-to-say, we were very disappointed with this experience, and we hope to create a fair expectation for anyone that chooses to purchase this sailing.Written 2 December 2024
- FarAway250048775450 contributionsGreat evening!I recently took a sunset cruise with Taupo Sailing Adventures to the stunning Maori rock carvings, and it was an incredible experience! The trip out was a bit choppy, but the crew handled it with professionalism and ensured everyone was comfortable. Their friendly and knowledgeable approach really stood out. On the way back, we were treated to a breathtaking sunset over Lake Taupo—truly a sight to behold. Would definitely recommend this tour.Written 28 November 2024

This was the second time we have made this sailing tour, last time on Sail Barbary, this time on Sail Feerless. We were spending some time away with our twin granddaughters, Orla and Poppy, who have recently started to learn to sail in their home town of Tauranga. Fortunately our skipper for the day was Sarah, the very best role model for the girls, as she had huge experience sailing the seven seas, communicating her experiences to the twins in kindly and charming manner, including encouraging both novices to take the wheel and sail the boat, a ketch, probably the nicest yatch on the waters. Sarah demonstrated its safe characteristics on our return from the carvings, when she allowed the vessel to come off beam and gracefully turn head to wind, with its deep keel running fore and aft, until it virtually stood still. The carvings have a recent history, and there were several " nimby " issues, 'not in my back yard', to solve before the carver and his team were able to complete these beautiful and extraordinary works. This 3 hour sailing tour is highly recommended, and as a bonus, free wine, beer or soft drinks are supplied, along with a variety of pizzas, some meat-free. Why hesitate, ....oh! and there is a swim-stop in the bay by the carvings of you want to cool off.

I am so pleased I decided to spend this morning with my daughter on the Fearless, visiting the Maori rock carvings. What a magically calm, sunny, stunning and informative morning we had.
Our skipper, Sarah, was a personable and engaging guide, sharing the volcanic and cultural history of the lake and surrounds with her passengers. Her offsider, a youth from the local yacht club, was just as lovely and chatty, a pleasure to talk to while we made our way to the carvings.
The highlight of the morning for me was jumping ship for a relaxing swim in the crystal clear, refreshing waters beside the carvings.
I would rate this as the best value activity we have done here in North Island NZ.

This is an excellent way to get a sail on Lake Taupo. It is just the right length (two and a half hours) and we were under sail for part of it which was spectacular. The carvings are incredible especially when you consider how difficult it was to carve over the water. We were well fed and provided with drinks of our choice. The crew were very friendly and cared for our safety though I was surprised that we didn't have to wear life jackets. Remember to take a towel and swim wear as they stop for a swim.

Such a lovely experience, a highlight in a very busy sightseeing trip. Dave was so friendly, knowledgable, and laid back which made the trip a delight. Cheap for the experience, food and drinks provided. The lake is so amazing to swim in, but the pace of the trip is lovely and unhurried so we were able to get a good swim in. Dave looked to sail whenever the wind allowed (not a very windy day) to maximise our experience. Highly recommend.

Awesome, that's exactly what we want to offer. A good time, to relax but also to explore. A true sailing experience, not rushed like we unfortunately all are so often in normal life.

From the moment we arrived, we were so warmly welcomed. We had a fabulous time on the sunset cruise. The rock carvings, the swim, the jokes, the pizza, the wine, and the sailing back into Taupo are a magnificent sunset.... 10 out of 10 Dave... Thanks Lynette and Jacqui

Highly recommended, amazing hosts with amazing knowledge. Carvings are beautiful and was able to watch someone enjoy the waters while we stayed on board. Myself and my partner enjoyed our sail into the sunset, had amazing views, delicious pizza and never ending hospitality. We were made to feel very comfortable upon a beautiful sail boat. Thank you guys for the memories :)

We had fabulous time on the water with David at the helm. Beautiful weather, great scenery and David really knows his history. The Maori rock carvings are worth a visit and bring your togs - the water is clear and you can get up close to the carvings. We had a lovely time with the other guests on board as everyone was so relaxed. That's the difference between a launch and a sailing boat - on a sailing boat time becomes irrelevant. Blissful and would highly recommend it.

Our group got upgraded from the Fearless to a lovely larger yacht (due to tour size, I think.)
The trip to the Maori carvings was so relaxed & beautiful. It was a lovely day with just a little wind. We enjoyed pizza & a drink on the way out. Plenty of time was spent looking at the carvings from all angles. The carvings really were incredible. I learned that the carvings were done by Maori people in 1976.
A few men jumped in the water while there. The water was not deep & it was wonderfully clear.
