A relaxed Sail on Lake Taupo
Aug 2021
Loved the whole experience of sailing to the rock carving on a nice sunny morning in a yacht. The skipper was very friendly and had a great sense of humour. Overall very good value for money and will do it again.

Great morning out in Taupo.
Aug 2021 • Couples
Great value for money. Our skipper Kerry was extremely good at his job, knowledgeable and sailed like a pro through the wind and rain on the way back.
Carvings were super impressive, definely worth a visit.

Thank you very much for your review. Winter sailing can be exciting if it is a breezy day and with Kerry at the helm you would have been in safe hands as he has sailed all around the world. I hope you took advantage of our warm ponchos and a hot drink. It was a shame the weather did not hold out longer for you!

Exciting Sailing
Aug 2021
We sailed during windy and gusty conditions (10 to 25 knots). Two of our party of six had not sailed before and when the gusts moved Barbary along at 10 knots we experienced the excitement of real sailing. Due to the varied wind direction and force we sailed hard to windward and then on the way back a peaceful down wind sail. A great experience for all.
An excellent professional Skipper .

Amazing experience
Jul 2021
Was such an amazing experience, being on a yacht out in the open was fantastic and the skipper was hilarious and knew his history which was awesome. Was a very unique experience and I'm glad I did this. The ponchos and complimentary milo was a lovely addition too, especially as it was a little chilly. Very relaxing time and I highly recommend this.

Best Taupo activity
Jul 2021 • Friends
Have done this sail many times, enjoy it so much, very peaceful. Felt so welcomed by the owner. You learn about the history in such a way it’s relaxing and interesting however if you want your own vibe, it goes with that too! Honestly suits everyone from families ( have attended with my family) or with friends (also done this) and both times was equally as good!! To top it off, sail Barbary also has refreshments available and waterproof/wind resistant ponchos for free use during the sail (very comfy and warm.) honestly highly recommend, will continue to make this a must do activity every time I pass through Taupo!!

It was a great way to explore Taupo. Definitely recommend it if you have a few hours to spare. Friendly staff and the beautiful sailing yacht. Enjoyed the story about the rock carvings while having a hot drink on a clear winter day.

Great Trip
What a fantastic trip on Lake Taupo. Group of 8 from all over NZ who were in Taupo for the long weekend. Surprisingly only 1 had actually been on the lake. Highly recommend this trip, it was a cold day so we dressed warmly, skipper was friendly and shared his local and historical knowledge well.
We had originally booked to sail however due to lake levels this wasn’t possible, company kept us informed and moved our booking to another boat.
Highly recommend Sail Barbary

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. The skipper will be very pleased to learn you enjoyed his informative commentary. It is good to know that we have now introduced Lake Taupo to some new people. Hopefully when we get more water in the lake, we can take you out sailing this Summer maybe for a relaxing sunset trip :)

Great chill adventure
It was a pure pleasure to see the carvings on a great sunny day on a boat that does not take too many ppl on board. The only problem was that there was no wind, but the electlic engine that the boat has is making no noise and so the trip was very relaxing and successful. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much for your fabulous recommendation. We are thrilled that you loved your experience; our team will definitely be happy to read what you wrote. Shame about the wind but maybe we will see you again on a more breezy day! Then we can give our electric engine a rest and let the sails do the work.
