Great day out for all ages
Feb 2020
They make very good use of the relatively small space. It is well set out with clear useful signage, good paths and things for kids young or old. We had a great day there. It was mid week outside of school holidays so not crowded.
The promotional material left me a I bit concerned that it was a "disneyworld" type experience, but happily that wasn't the case. Just an interesting meeting with NZ flora and fauna. I knew all the trees, animals etc but still found it worthwhile. I could imagine that a 1st time visitor to NZ with limited time would really enjoy this introduction, especially to the kiwi hatching house. Didn't do the paid kiwi tour so no live kiwis on display (don't know if you see them on the tour) but the displays and info and interactions in the kiwi section were very good and interesting. There were youngsters there when we there and they were obviously involved and having a good time.
We were a bit apprehensive about it but since our ticket included the Big Splash we went for it. It was well done and fun despite my wife closing her eyes for the final drop and me hanging on tight! We were glad we did it.
There is a reasonable clean cafe that made good coffee. The food was the usual NZ cabinet food together with the usual pies etc. There's good parking, with a separate area for campervans.

One to do in Rotorua
Nov 2019
Visited on a week day so it was nice and quiet. Nature Park has lots of birds, reptiles and fish to see. Water ride is fun. Only suggestion would be a bit more info in the main kiwi house - we didn't know how many we were looking for, if any at all. We were lucky and saw one wondering around it's habitat though. Great visit.

Disappointed
Jan 2020 • Couples
Couple of the exhibits were not operational.... for example Jenny the Kea, the reptile walkthrough and another I don’t know the name of. We had to get staff to unlock the Kiwi House. There were tourists wandering around feeding the birds bread which isn’t healthy for them. One of the exhibits that was abandoned had a nest of rats scurrying out of the nest boxes, rats running over the path. Altogether I saw 5 rats while I was there, and they were not fearful of humans so must have been there a while. Not a good look for a conservation house. Some items on the big splash such as the commentary and falling trees were not operational. Disappointed

Beautiful setting
The setting was beautiful and we saw our first real life kiwi!

The big splash ride is very dated and the animals to ‘look out for’ are fake - but kids might like this.

$45 each was probably a bit steep considering a few enclosures were shut.

Overall we enjoyed it.

Beautiful park, lots for kids
Great for young kids, there’s a kiwi exhibit and hatchery, enclosures to walk through with native birds, playgrounds, interactive activities and lots more. The grounds are beautiful with a big lake and plenty of trees. Cafe was simple but had plenty to offer: drinks, sandwiches, soups, pastries and ice cream. Great day out.
