      Epic mountain biking with Marcello
I am 15 and went on a half day mountain biking tour around Mt Rotorua with my guide Marcello who was excellent. Marcello took me on a personalized tour, mixing scenic tracks with more challenging and technical trails. We covered a lot of territory, took a lot of photos and video and met other riders. I hired a bike which was really well suited to the trails I was riding and was adjusted to fit me. If you aren't into climbing, the bike shuttle service is really good with friendly drivers. All the staff made me feel welcome. Would highly recommend.

      So awesome!
Well run half day tour for our group of four who are in decent shape and bike flat trails but by no means are seasoned bikers. Our guide Marcello was great! He selected a nicely challenging path that was doable for us and fun with a few scenic stops. The bikes are top notch and definitely built for these amazing trails. 10/10 would do again BUT would make sure we scheduled a soak afterwards at the Secret Spot hot tubs right across the parking lot.

      A must
We hired a couple of e-bikes from Mountain Bike Rotorua and had an amazing day in the Redwoods. A must, if you are around this area. The staff was super kind and helpful. Thank you so much for an amazing experience.

      An adventure for all bikers!
We grabbed some bikes from Mountain Bike Rotorua and explored the nearby paths. The trail options in the area cater to all skill levels, and the bikes' handled very well on every trail we conquered. The quality of mountain bikes they provided us with were excellent! Highly recommend for a fantastic biking adventure!

A quick fix to many a mechanical problem
Compliments to Craig and the crew at the bike shop for getting us back and rolling so fast. On the spot repairs across several different visits and a great service. Thanks.

Great authentic forest trail riding experience
Incredible, authentic forest trail only defined by wear as opposed to commercially laid pathways. We only have over an hour to bike so did the so-called kids trail twice! So much FUN! I wonder how adventurous the “adult trails” might be after that experience. Bike and tyre quality is high so whilst you are dropping down hill parts and biking over big branches, rocks and debris at speed, you are still safe :). Great value too for $39.00 for 2-hours. All three of us loved it!

      First ebike experience -epic!
We hired ebikes for a 2 hour forest ride. Staff were just awesome, bikes were great, had a blast. Highly recommend this activity as well as the supporting local businesses being the shuttle service and The Secret Spot hot tubs.

      Inflexible Staff
Hired bikes. Only had an hour before they closed, wouldn’t discount bike hire prices even though we biked for less than an hour. Wouldn’t have been hard to give us the 2hour hire for half price. I asked and the staff would not do us any deals.

      Mountain E-Bike Adventure
We hired an E-Bike and rode the Forest Loop Trail - 35 kms. The staff were a pleasure to deal when collecting the bikes and dropping them off. Online booking was easy. The trail is very scenic - can get busy so the earlier start the better. TIP: when hiring the bike, bring your own gel seat

Me and my partner had a great day out on the bikes.
We did a 35km loop that was suggested by one of the staff and loved it. Using Ebikes we were able to complete in roughly 3 hours. As we were unsure how long the batteries would last we were a little conservative and only ended up using a little under half the charge. I'm not the fittest by any means but didn't find tge track difficult. Had I used more of the battery assist it would have been even easier. Awesome experience and great value. Highly recommend and would do again to try some of the other tracks. Note the Ebikes did add on a extra charge but we'll worth it.

The Team at Mountain Bike Rotorua were excellent, a strong focus towards customer service and all their team took the time to explain items such as shuttle service, local trail knowledge and bike setup. Most of the trails are well signed and I have to admit got lost a few times but plenty of fire roads to link up on.

Had a remarkable experience riding the redwoods and some of the best trails I've ever ridden. All the shuttle service team were extremely helpful assisting young children with getting bikes on and off the trailers, good humour and really boosting the vibe for the drive back to the top of the hill. All locals really friendly and couldn't recommend this enough. Great work and I plan to be back again.

The trails were well maintained and the beauty of cycling through the redwoods forest was uplifting. Im a fairly fit 60 year old and hired one of the basic mountain bikes and found the loop trail with the downhill parts great fun. Towards the end the uphill parts became a bit more challenging but definitely a ride that is manageable.
Just over halfway on the loop trail we stopped off for a swim in the blue lake. I really can’t believe that we have this amazing facility on our doorstep and FREE! The staff were friendly , the booking of the bikes online was simple , bikes were well maintained.
All in all a great experience and if you get the chance just go out and do it 😀

We hired a bike at the Redwood forest for 2 hours. There are a range of paths to ride on (each graded for difficulty). We can cycle well but aren't well versed in extreme mountain biking, so kept to the green routes. This was a perfect fit, and incredibly fun. There are heaps of families enjoying the routes, so feels incredibly safe and fun. Nice cafe nearby the bike hire area. This was a spare of the moment decision on our trip, but ended up being one of our favourite parts. A must do!.

We rented bikes from Mountain Bike Rotorua from their outlet at the Te Putake O Tawa carpark and rode the Whakarewarewa Forest Loop track. Bikes were very good and the ride was fantastic.

We have done many other Great Rides of NZ, and they have all been great. But this was the first that provided a full mountain bike experience rather than trail on a cycle path. The trail runs through forest most of the way and weaves its way through the trees with ups and down and switchbacks to keep you focused. Riding through the forest was always beautiful and peaceful and there were some great views from several vantage points, particularly of the Green Lake and also the panoramas over Rotorua. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Just be aware that the facilities at the Tawa site are quite limited, particularly in the off season, with the bike shop and cafe only open Friday through Sunday, and with a limited number and selection of bikes. This location is newly developed and potentially an excellent alternative to the Waipa Mill site. Hopefully as its popularity increases, the services available will too.

Three of us arrived at 2.30pm to hire three e bikes for 2 hours. We were told they closed at 4pm yet the website said 5pm. We asked about a 1 hour hire and were told you could but the price is the same as 2 hours. Mentioned they closed early due to Covid! We are in level 1! What has that got to do with opening hours!
Went to Bike Planet and hired their bikes and had an amazing time. Bike Planet staff awesome.

Hi there, thanks for providing your feedback. Firstly I'd like to apologise for the confusion regarding our hours of operation. When we moved to a 4pm close we changed our listings on www.rotoruanz.com, our Google listing, and our own website. Unfortunately Tripadvisor was missed, and I've been through and changed those hours to match now. When we made the decision to shorten our hours following the first NZ-wide lockdown it was based on several factors, but most notably reduced traffic throughout the week based on lack of international or domestic travellers. While we've definitely seen improvement in the months following (thank you to all the fantastic Kiwis getting out and enjoying their own backyard!), we don't feel that it's the right time yet to move to longer operational hours. Our minimum hire length is 2 hours. We conduct a thorough setup, trail advice and safety briefing before the ride, and a comprehensive mechanical and safety check on the bikes before they can be used again, regardless of hire length. For this reason we don't offer discounts on shorter rides, even late in the day. Two hours is just barely enough time to scratch the surface of what's on offer in the forest, so we'd encourage anyone looking to ride to leave at least that much time to enjoy this wonderful place. I'm glad that despite the issues on the day you were able to head down the road and still have a great time in the forest. Again, apologies for the opening hours confusion, thank you for raising it. Cheers, Ben.

I've ridden at Rotorua many times on a regular bike. With a motor, it is as much fun riding up the hill as down. Now I understand why riders use berms on ascents! I appreciated the attention to setting up the suspension, etc., for my weight when I picked the bike up. I'll be back for another go next time I visit Rotorua.

First time hiring ebikes and we felt they were not super well maintained for this price. Tyre tread was a little low overall and dangerously low on the rear of my bike this became quite evident out on the trails and when mentioned to the owner he said it was the type of tyre (we are very experienced bikers and know the tyre brand well) but it was probably close to needing replacement. Neither bikes gears changed overly smoothly and a mechanical issue which may or may not have been a maintenance issue (sometimes things happen out of the blue) meant limping a sad bike back for the end of the ride. My size M bike showed a lot of general wear but especially on the stanchions the other XL bike showed less wear. The brakes on both bikes were very good. Both rear mudguards were very noisy on the trails not a fault just annoying. Overall friendly service and it was easy to book on the phone although I did feel the staff member adjusting my seat thought I was being a bit of a pain over it commenting that he had never done so much seat work before even though it probably only took him 5 minutes. I know how I want my seat especially if I'm on it for 4 hours and I don't think that's too much to ask.
Not a bad experience at all but for the price I would expect better maintained bikes.

2hrs for me and my fiancée. Went through the easy trails. The Dipper and Tahi which were near enough to the shop (they were suggested by the friendly staff at hand). Had spare time so we tried another path and came across the mud pool and had a short go at a lvl4 track before heading back.

Its so worth it. I haven't cycled in over a year and just being behind the handle bars again brought back such good feelings.

My girl never really did any biking, so i was quite happy she held on well through the roots and small drops on the trail (it was easy..)

The hard tail bikes were in good condition and we were fitted to the right size according to our heights. Very professional. Helmets were included too.

The best part is that the shop is right outside the trail head, so we didn't need to rent the bike in town and trasport it to the forest (our car wouldn't fit two bikes)...

I loved the view and trails and fresh air of the forest too. Thank you guys! Keep up the good work!
