      Fun family day out
Such a fun day exploring the Skyline attractions - stunning gondola ride and we had such fun on the luge tracks that we ended up buying another turn each.

      Good, but not great experience.
We had previously visited the Queenstown Skyline and found this one not as nice. However, it was pleasant enough, so likely we were spoiled by the other one. Nice views from the top and did one Luge ride to see what ti was about. The Luge was a bit bumpy, but interesting enough to try. The main problem was its lack of good signs and/or maps when you first exit the gondola. It was very unclear what was in which direction and we have to wander around and ask to orient ourselves.

      Not the best
Our family of four went up the skyline and then had one run on the luge. We didn't have the best experience. It seemed that while it was well staffed in terms of numbers it was catering for regulars who have been before. While we went only once on the luge you could buy tickets for multiple runs. This meant a number of people were 'mucking around' on the runs and blocking the path down. The luge track is not designed for people to be stopping on it. We found the Singapore version of the luge a lot better and far more professionally run. It was quite expensive for what it is.

So many things to do, not enough time to do them!
So many things to do, not enough time to do them! Although are day started off a bit disappointing as the zipline was closed for the day, which put an end to our half day adventure pass ideas, being the gondola, zipline, Skyswing & 5 luge rides. We then pivoted to the gondola, skyswing & 7 luge rides combo instead, and that ended up being a very good substitute. The luge rides were the best part, and by doing 7 rides, we could ride the 5 different tracks once, and then pick two tracks to ride a second time. The younger members of the family started off a bit timidly on the luge, but were up to speed by the second ride, and we all had a blast. Make sure you try starting from both starting areas for something different, and try both chairlifts back up to the top. The Skyswing was a bit extra we thought we'd try since we were there, and it was good fun. Over quickly, but good fun while doing it! Great views from the top, and good laughs while watching the screamers have a go while waiting for your turn. Also good views from the gondola across the town & the lake. Good facilities and a great day out was had by all. A MUST visit. ps- get there early to get a few/most of your rides in before the coachloads arrive, and it does take a bit longer to wait for your next luge ride.

      Great fun at Skyline
The gondola ride up the mountain sets the scene. There are several different routes down the hill that you can choose to do on your kart before getting the chair lift back up each time. You can cruise down the track at your own pace, whether slow and gentle or race as fast as the kart will allow. We went mid week and after the school holidays so it was not busy and we did not have to queue We choose the five trip option. Great fun. Gondola takes you back down to the ample car park.

      Fun for all ages
We spent a very enjoyable morning at Skyline Rotorua. First a gondola ride up to the top with magnificent views on the way. Then a very tasty breakfast with plenty of choice. And to top it off a fun luge ride with a variety of tracks to choose from. I was fortunate enough to do the ride twice on two different tracks, and to end it off a ski lift to get back to the top. I was surprised how fast the luge could go, but it was very easy to control the speed for those who were a little more cautious or for the young children who wanted to give it a go. Of course we all had to wear helmets as protection for our heads. I am in the senior age category and thought this was a blast. I just wish that I could have stayed longer and experienced some of the other rides available.

      Worth going
We did the Zorb from down the street first and then stopped by for lunch with reservations with window view. Which worth the extra money if you get the one free drink per person. Host and chef was super friendly and helpful with my wife’s gluten free sensitivity. Food overall was excellent. They even brought her a piece of cake with a card signed by all the staff for her birthday mentioned when seated. Nice touch !!! So much things to do other than the restaurant also but that’s all we did. The gift shop also highly recommended and reasonable priced as we didn’t know at the time (was our first day in Rotorua). Highly recommended.

Fun Experience with Room for Improvement at Skyline Rotorua
Rating: 4/5 My visit to Skyline Rotorua for the gondola and luge experience was a memorable one, filled with fun activities and stunning scenery. However, there were a few aspects that could have been better addressed to enhance the overall experience. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the luge ride, offering thrilling twists and turns amidst breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The gondola ride itself was also enjoyable, providing a scenic journey to the top of the hill. While the attractions themselves were impressive, I couldn't help but notice the need for more staff presence. Except for the first ride, the lines for the luge were quite long, and additional staff and signage explaining the divide between first ride and repeats could have helped to streamline the process and reduce wait times. Furthermore, I observed that some areas could have been better maintained in terms of hygiene, the hamlets in particular as the riders wears the used helmets were people drop them off. It would have been beneficial to see more proactive efforts in cleaning and sanitizing the hamlets as well providing a more visible signage for the location of the hair nets, especially given the current health concerns. Without mentioning clearer signage would have been helpful, particularly for first-time visitors like myself. Better signage could improve navigation around the park and provide more information about the various attractions available. Photography for the luge rides and the gondola could have synchronized many of the us didn’t realize that we aren’t able to pick up the photos for the luge rides at the exit. Overall, despite these areas for improvement, my experience at Skyline Rotorua was undeniably fun and memorable. With a few adjustments to staffing levels, hygiene practices, and signage, it has the potential to offer an even more exceptional experience for visitors.

Fun Way to Spend a Rainy Afternoon
The Skyline gondola and Volcano Hills wine tasting was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon in Rotorua. Despite the gloomy weather, the view of the lake and across the township was spectacular. The staff at the Volcano Hills tasting room were friendly & knowledgeable and the wines were excellent. We also enjoyed a generous antipasto platter with our wines and ended up buying a couple of bottles to bring home. $55 for the gondola ride and 5 wines was good value.

      a must at Rotorua!
amazing place you need to book in advance and make sure to be there by 9am so you can get all the 5 rides of the luge done by 10.30 and then you can do the zipline and if you like the thrill do the swing, my 2 kids and my hubby did it and absolutely love it. the views are breathtaking! bring water and leave the back with the rest of the stuff in one secured locker so you can enjoy! The gondola is the first thing and the last thing you do and the views are amazing!

Its a Rotorua must do :)
We absolutely loved our day spent here!! Recommend buying tickets online as it was such a breeze getting there and walking through straight on to the gondola instead of having to line up. Also not having to line up for luge tickets either. The luges were so much fun! We got the 5 luge ride package so we could try each track. Nice, friendly staff and the views are beautiful!

Lovely experience but huge inequities in ticket sales and prices.
Went last week later on a Saturday night. There were a few of us paying at the counter in different groups. A couple in front of us seemed to take 10 years to sort out their issue so some of us went to other counter. One family was able to buy 3 luge rides each no problem..when we bought our tickets we were only allowed to buy 2 each because we might run out of time to use (we didn't but not given the option to buy extra at the top at the same price to get a 3rd round). The final member of the party was only allowed to buy 1 luge ticket as she was single and they wouldn't allow her to buy more. (But we didn't know in advance to add her to our family)..it would be $10 to get an extra luge ride at the bottom but $25 at the top. Tried to negotiate with the ticket lady at the top but she has no agency to amend. She said complaints happen all the time, but management won't do anything about this injustice. The gondola was lovely and the luge was really fun. The staff were all otherwise very good. But my children felt ripped off as we were visiting the country and won't go again for a while. So we give Skyline A for Ass for having know it all managers who think they know better on pricing. We go to attractions worldwide most weeks, and this is one of the worst cases of inequity we have experienced.

Prebooked tickets for night luge (5rides) special for 4people. Arrived before 8pm as instructed on ticket purchase. Given the place seemed to be more busy than usual (due to events around town) we expected a wait in line etc. But to be told at 10pm they were closing and we couldnt use the remaining 2rides per ticket (8rides) That is alot of money that just got thrown into ur pockets for nothing as we were only in rotorua for one day made a special trip just to go to the luge, yet it states on site and on signs in complex open til late and closing times may vary. A simple band system letting those who pre booked, pre paid go first would have solved this issue and me being out of pocket and highly dissapointed.

Included on our NZ tour, the gondola to the top provides great views and is well worth doing. The buffet breakfast was very good with a wide range of choice. Of course most of the tour group had to do the luge rides which inevitably became competitive. An excellent diversion from long days travelling around NZ.

What an awesome day we had. We did the luge and zip line. What an absolute thrill. It’s expensive but you can’t do this stuff everyday so worth every penny. We bought tickets online the day before using a 10% discount voucher but on arrival they had cheaper deals available. This must happen a lot as they offered a full refund of the online order so check out the prices on site prior to online purchasing. Also recommend getting there early, as the place was empty, by the time we left there were long queues for the luge.

We pre-purchase ticket at a discount rate for a whole day entry, the ticket stated from 10am when the time they open. We arrived at 10:40am. They asked for a surcharge more than $40, very strict and unfriendly. It was a drizzly weekday, They don’t have many customers. Hardly believe a tourism business running like this, especially when they begging for customers to survive under the impact of pandemic.

Hi Escape824150. Appreciate you taking the time to review. As previously mentioned, due to the fact that you purchased discounted tickets through the Bookme website (where it clearly states that you must redeem your voucher at the allotted time), the surcharge was simply the difference between the online discounted price and our onsite retail pricing for you and your family. In future, we suggest you purchase gondola and luge vouchers on our website which will provide you with the flexibility to arrive at whatever date and time suits you and your family.

We booked for the gondola and 5 Luge Rides. We were not disappointed. The gondola gives you a lovely scenic view of the area. Then there was a choice of 3 routes down on the luges. You are shown how to operate the vehicles and advised to take the scenic route first which is a good way to fell confident with the controls. When at the end of the track you put the luge into a path where it gets lifted to the top again and you hop on the ski lift to the top and line up for the next ride down. We (party of 4) are all in our 60's and we had a blast. We were glad we booked for 5 turns as three just wouldn't have been enough. The queues were really short - we went early morning and the most we waited was 5 mins. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes adventure - it's not difficult.

We had a great time here. We started by taking the Skyline (gondola) up to the top of Mount Ngongotaha (a dormant volcano). At the top there are a number of activities to choose from. You can easily spend ½ day here. If you have no interest in doing activities, have lunch in the restaurant, or stop by the winery for a tasting or simply just take in the stunning views. We did the luge track. There are 2 tracks and the luge descends ½ way down the mountain. You have to take a ski lift chair back to the top. Based on the type of ticket you purchased, you may be able to go on the luge multiple times. Once you’re ready to leave, you have to take the Skyline down since you can’t hike down the mountain. Some of the other activities include a zip line and sky swing that looked absolutely terrifying.

We've been here multiple times over the last 10 years and it's always an enjoyable experience. Last time we did the 3 luge rides and wanted more so this time we picked the 5 luge ride option. The gondola queue this time was quick and we were at the top in no time. . Have to go past the wifes favourite jelly belly place to get some for her and then try drag her out before she wants to buy the whole place.

We did 3 luge rides from both starting points and then went for lunch. After the fourth ride the wife lost her ticket, but the people there were very helpful and let her have the last ride. Whilst we were in the queue my wife saw another lady with her ticket in her back pocket about to fall out and she said to the lady to be careful as she had lost hers. the next thing we know the lady says she doesn't need it and we can have it and two other families did the same at the same time and so we ended up with 6 rides for each of us which was enough.

The middle luge was under construction and looks like it's going to be nice once completed. The amount of helmets lying around was quite frightening (both they they got there and the missing star is cause they don't go around and clean them up).

Barring the queues to go down the luge, the rest of the time was great..
The website was confusing as it says that you have to be over 6 to ride, but they said it's about weight and not age at the top of the luge..

What a review! Thank you so much. Very informative. I am so pleased to hear you all had a great time. We can not wait for the construction to be done so we can all have a go on the new track! As for the helmets, we have no control over our what our guests do with their helmets while they are in possession of them (although we do try) but I can say that we do go around throughout the day and collect what we can. Also, children need to be over the age of 6 and over 110cm high to ride the Luge by themselves. It is about their safely and they need to meet both of those requirements. ll in all it sounds like you had an amazing visit! We hope you come back soon!

Went as an extended family of 13 Kiwis from a 2 year old to + 70 yrs. We ALL enjoyed it and safe and exciting. Suggest you go early (before 9am) as queues can get to be over and hour long later in morning/afternoon. Nice cafe at top and great views of Rotorua. Do NOT leave anything viable in your car whilst parked in the car park. All in all a great morning was had by all.

We visited on Friday 10th July with our grand-kids spent nearly 300 dollars for gondala and 3 luge rides. Kids waited an hour and a half for each luge ride too many people this should be better managed by skyline. We are not wealthy people but decided to support Rotorua not again open the borders so we can get value for money overseas. Kids only got to do two luge rides due to crowds.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We really do appreciate it as it helps us identify areas we can improve. Due to the School Holidays and limited sunny days, the number of people coming to Skyline is very changeable at the moment and we are doing everything we can to accommodate all of our guests.

My sisters had never done this activity before, so we shouted them a ticket for the Gondala and Luge rides. They absolutely loved the luge and were taken back to being a kid again. As other reviews point out, it is great fun but very expensive. Even saying that, it was very busy with parking at a premium it was hard to get a carpark! It does get very cold up there at this time of year so wear warm clothes!
