Please write pick-up location clearly in your confirmation letter
The confirmation letter had Cordis Auckland as the depart location (also this is what is listed in the depart location when we booked the tour online). However, our family arrived earlier and waited there for 15 mins without seeing the coach (while some other tours' coaches were in front of the hotel). The meeting time passed, so we got worried and called the Contact Center. The call is quickly answered and the operator is helpful, however we had to run 15 mins to get to another meeting location as the coach has left Cordis already. The issue discovered is that the coach actually waited in the bus stop on Symonds Street, but this location is not written in the text box that highlights the depart location, but rather in smaller font below the text box in the confirmation letter. For the rest of the trip, it was mostly good (lunch was good, the driver to Rotorua is especially nice and helpful, but the wifi didn't work on the bus, the Waitomo cave was not really impressive comparing to what I saw elsewhere and the Hobbiton tour was in such a hurry that you don't have much time to take photos). The pick up was really a problem - a bad way to start your vacation. What made it worse is that when we arrived at the new meeting point and pointed the problem to the girl who signs people up, she said "that's not our problem"

      Disappointed
We were booked on a tour early morning to Hobbiton going as a group, we arrived at hotel for pick-up and the coach never turned up! Our tour guide phoned and was told that the trip had been cancelled due to an “error “ on the 1st March, our trip was on the 3rd March, and we were not notified that it had been cancelled.Very disappointed. Heard from other people this company not very reliable. Check your tour is going!

      Great journey
Great tour, the Waitomo caves are really cool, and the Hobbiton is spectacular. The bus is very comfortable, nice lunch and the tour guide Rachel is awesome.

      Amazing experience
Beautiful scenery and weather was amazing when we went. Not too warm and not too cold. I love that no cameras are allowed in the Waitomo caves so you could really just immerse in the experience. You can take some photos when the boat ride is slowly approaching out of the caves. You will first take a walk in the caves, guided by locals, and then a very short 3min ish boat ride that takes you under the glow worms. Btw, it gets really dark so if you’re afraid of the dark, be prepared! The Hobbiton tour was super fun and interactive. Loved it, and it was so sunny. Bring a hat and take LOTS of amazing pics!

A rushed experience but if you're short on time, this is the exact tour you want
Expensive but then I calculated the cost of the tickets --- Hobbiton is expensive!! Taking that into account, I guess it's not a bad deal. Their lunch isn't all that tasty. I would pack something also. Be prepared for a WHOLE lotta driving. If you're a LOR fan, this will be the ultimate experience. We only had 1 day on the North Island so we went for broke and decided to try and see 2 things in one day. Mission accomplished.

      Exceptional day trip!
Such a great day trip! The tour guide where knowledgeable and engaging. Recommend a visit to Hobbiton during your NZ travels. I have seen glow worms and caves before, however I was blown away by these caves and the amount of glow worms and the cool little boat you take. Hobbiton was exceptional! It was actually allot better then I was expecting. Unfortunately the second breakfast tour was booked out already on the day we went. I would have liked to have done this. I suggest making your bookings early so can include the experiences you want. There is wifi on the bus, although it’s really just for social media / emails. Suggest you download something to watch in advance as the wifi isn’t fast enough to watch movies over. (Just in case you haven’t seen Lord of the Rings!)

Almost passed on this but this is a must do, and Rachael is amazing
Paid about NZ$350 for this, which sounds a bit punchy until you consider the Waitomo Cave would set you back $75 and Hobbiton $120 just on their own. When you break it down like that only paying $150 for being taken around for 12 hours. Also GreatSights is these attractions' biggest customer by a mile so you really get treated like VIPS, ie. there is no waiting at the attractions. Honestly up until the night before going I was debating whether I wanted to be crammed in a big bus fully loaded with tourists for 12 hrs in peak season. Reading Tripadvisor reviews didn’t help because I never know whether to trust reviews, particular those with hardly any reviews. Like who's this Racheal that everyone keeps talking about? Well FYI, Racheal is still around, and she is awesome if you’re lucky to get her (she works 4 days a week, only two of those on this tour). With the best big bus tours you’re supposed to get a driver-guide, but a lot of times you get more driver than guide. With Rachael, you're getting amazing non-stop commentary the entire way to Waitomo & Hobbiton. I was amazed how she could go on non-stop. In retrospect, some of the less positive reviews of Racheal are borne from intelligence-deficient tourists who just don't listen. Sorry to say it, but it’s true. "Rachael's Rules" include no hot foods or ice cream on the bus, because she doesn't want sticky messes or strong smells that will make others on the bus queasy. When you think about it, you can imagine how enormously difficult it is to shepherd a United Nations of tourists around and getting everyone to behave (and there are a lot of awful uncourteous people). I am amazed how Rachael kept everything in order and made sure we got back right on the dot. Kudos! Before doing this tour I just really wanted to see Waitomo and I didn't even care to see Hobbiton, only had to go because it was packaged together. But now I think Hobbiton is a must see, and has reason to be NZ's #1 attraction, even if you don't care for the LOTR/Hobbit movies. Waitomo on the other hand, is nice... but probably like a 4 out of 5. This tour by GreatSights though, is a must-do and totally a 5/5, even as I was totally exhausted I got back to Auckland city. The only disappoint was that when I booked this it was supposed to include a lunch at Hobbiton. They've since changed it to a takeout box catered by the Waitomo Caves cafeteria and to be eaten on the bus, and honestly that meal totally sucks.

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
WOW! This was a phenomenal tour!! I can't recommend it enough. I was picked up by our coach driver RACHEL, who gave us amazing information on our way down to The Shire. Everything from a brief history of Auckland, trivia about the production of the Lord of the Rings, and the current news, culture, and events of New Zealand. You are very, very lucky if Rachel is your coach driver. She told us the most optimal way to access the tour, right down to when to order coffee and use the restroom. The Shire itself was amazing. Lots of photo opportunities, a chance to learn about the production of the film, the family that owns the farm/property where the film was shot, and more! We had an excellent tour guide, Hayden, who provided great insight on the film. The lunch was GREAT! Amazing food that was fit for a pescatarian (and would accommodate a veg* diet as well) like myself. It's a great way to round out the trip after a long journey from Auckland. The transfer to Rotorua was easy. CHRIS, the coach driver to Rotorua also provided some amazing information regarding the area. I am so glad that I go some background info on things to do, see, and history. Do yourself a favor and get on this tour. Like now. It's a once in lifetime experience, that would delight Tolkien fans and detractors alike!

      Great Tour
If you're a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit fan, you'll thoroughly enjoy the Hobbiton tour. With the ability to tour inside one of the Hobbit homes, it enhanced it so much more. Moreover, the Waitomo Tour was fascinating and educational. In truth, I found the pricing to be a little high, but we went during the prime tourist season, so that likely accounted for the higher price. However, my family and I really enjoyed it, as well as our bus driver.

Mother Nature at her best! Absolutely breath taking! A priority destination when in New Zealand!
Waitomo Glowworm Caves were the highlight of our entire trip. Highly recommended and great photos! The bus picked us up at the bus stop right in front of our hotel. Our guide, Rachel was absolutely incredible. Informed us on every detail: lavatory rest stops on the way, bus pick up and drop off times, what to expect at our destination. The bus ride was long, but not having to drive made it possible to enjoy the beautiful countryside along the way. Rachel was very knowledgeable and professional!

      Amazing worms and hobbit holes
I was amazed by the glow worms caves - it was more spectacular than I anticipated. Peaceful and fantasy-like. And I liked how they split tour groups up at Hobbiton. I didn’t feel it was over crowded. That was beautiful and fun. Unexpected bonus was the commentary on the bus ride. I learned a lot about New Zealand and I found the jokes to be funny. Lunch was good, with vegetarian option. And you get a drink and souvenir at The Green Dragon. I did think the price was too high, but I had a great time and don’t regret it. I would just recommend booking early and looking for deals. This was last minute as I had to extend my trip. Bottom line: I’ll always remember this experience.

have terrible experienced with Great sights booked Hobbiton Day Tour their website says pick up & drop off from your hotel which is misleading called them a day before asking if they can pick us up from our hotel the staff say no, we have to go to Sky City terminal.

Their website does not says if the tour you booked is One way or return which is usually tours supposed to be pick up & drop off . note there is no public transport going back to Auckland CBD you will be stranded . when we arrived at the Hobbiton the driver advise us that we have to find our own ride going way back to Auckland and he will no longer take us to Rotorua it seems like they over booked because people are fighting over the seats .

The driver is kind enough to asked other tour drivers who have available seat who can accomodate us. we so lucky & thankful that Cheeky Kiwi have a good heart who offer us a ride going back Auckland for free . the driver Simon so kind and lovely drop us off safely in Auckland CBD which we requested .

Hobbiton was amazing but we did not enjoy it at all as we are so distracted , worried and having anxiety thinking how are we gonna get home . I am so furious with Great sights just ruin our supposed to be exciting Hobbiton tour. the worse holiday experienced .

Kia Ora, Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the trip and the experiences you encountered. We do offer hotel pick-up from 5 different hotels in Auckland which are spread out around the city to provide people with options. In your instance, your hotel was closer to the coach terminal than another hotel to pick you up from. Regarding your booking, it was for an Auckland to Hobbiton with a finish in Rotorua rather than Auckland. This is the reason that we didn't have availably on our coach to bring you back to Auckland and organized for you to travel back with another operator to ensure you got back to Auckland. It is unfortunate this happened during your holiday and took away your excitement about visiting Hobbiton. Please feel free to contact me directly as I would like the opportunity to discuss this matter with you directly. Regards Mike

LONG day of adventure to start our family New Zealand holiday. Our guide Rachael was entertaining and informative as we made our long drive across the region. All of our stops were unique and informative, food and water provided was on point, but definitely felt rushed due to the nature of the large bus and complex itineraries for multiple passengers. Not an intimate/personal tour, but if you're looking to hit a lot in a day, this may be the tour for you. Not much time for lingering at any location or indepth discovery/learning. Wifi on the bus was nice, particularly on the trek back when Rachael provided less commentary to allow the group to rest.

To get to the venues there is A LOT of driving in a bus. the driver was very nice and chatty
The caves were interesting but you are in the boat looking at the glow worms for about 5 mins and in the caves a total of about 30 mins. Our guide was very nice.
there was a nice variety of animals at the Agrodome and the guide was entertaining.
it was interesting to see the geyser at Te Puia but did not like the show.
the food they provide was TERRIBLE so bring your own
the bathrooms in the bus station were you depart are DISGUSTING and there were not open toilets open due to homeless using to self bath....

Kia Ora sarahlynnsan, We appreciate the feedback you have provided with us, the Waitomo Glowworms Caves tour is a shorter visit at 40 minutes, but is a truly magical tour. We are disappointed you did not like the tour, nor the traditional prepared Māori food. However we are pleased that you enjoyed the geyser at Te Puia as well as the Agrodome and your wonderful guide. Regarding the bathrooms, we do recommend going inside the bus terminal for their bathrooms as the bathrooms next door are publicly owned. We were up early to get our coach from hotel in Rotorua, our tour guide was waiting with us. Our coach from Great Sights never turned up! Our tour guide was told that the trip was cancelled on 1st March but he wasn’t informed of that fact, we were booked to go on 3rd March.
Wish I could give no marks, as this coach company not worth booking, and heard of other people being disappointed with them.
Was really angry that the coach company cancelled our booking without our and tour guides knowledge, so never got to Hobbiton!

We went with a tour group because we wanted to have lunch there… but the tour had 48 people on it..we couldn’t hear the guide and they were pushing us through really quickly..only 10 minutes in the green dragon is not enough time to get your drink and enjoy it! But the lunch buffet was fantastic but only 20 mins to eat!! Again we felt rushed!! 10 mins to shop & use the bathroom then on the bus back home! Way tooo RUSHED no time to enjoy the walk & the Hobbit holes..but all in all a beautiful & magical place!

Once in a Lifetime experience for everyone who loves The Hobbit/LotR. And exciting for every agegroup. It was great to see how every visitor (especially adults) was looking for a place to hide - because no one wanted to leave after the official tour 🫣 We were lucky to see one of the recently opened Hobbit Wholes: so much love put into this work. So many details. You literally wait for Bilbo to knock at the door….

Lana, Our tour guide was friendly helpful and clearly explained the history of Hobbiton and the making of the movies. She patiently waited as we took photos and often took photos for us. The experience was amazing to see the set. The lunch was delicious and so filling. It was a lovely gesture to give us mugs to apologise for the construction set. Our bus driver, Nutta, from Great Sights was friendly, informative and entertaining. Thank you for a superb day

It was an excellent day, from the bus ride in from Rotorua, throughout the tour, and then back into town. Our driver was entertaining, and Timbay, our tour guide was exceptional.
It was so much fun seeing the hobbit holes in person and hearing the backstory. I would highly recommend it.
