We had Shelly as our tour guide/driver and skipper. She was awesome with her knowledge and story telling of the history of the ducks, redwood forest, the lakes and the cows. She kept us entertained the whole tour. Highly recommend doing this to see parts of Rotorua you wouldn't normally get to see if you're just visiting. Check the weather, try book on a nice day that isn't raining or foggy.

Thanks for the review! We love having locals onboard, we always challenge ourselves to try and show locals the area from the Duck and perhaps teach them something new they didn't know before (sometimes they even teach us something!) Be sure to give us a wave if you see us around town!

My family and I took a guided tour of the Rotorua lakes in the amphibian duck boat. A genuine WW2 military craft, the duck boat was a sight to behold and definitely the centre of attention on the roads with loads of waving and smiles from people we passed.
Our intrepid guide, Josh, had the charismatic banter of an experienced professional that led me to suggest he moonlight as a stand up comedian.
Friendly and clearly happy in his work, Josh gave out interesting facts and fascinating historical information about the locations we visited and ensured we all had a great time.
The lakes were beautiful, some as smelly as expected, others picturesque. We even won the triathlon taking place on one (OK, we inadvertently parked at the finish line so Josh could check for water weeds, and quickly had to back up when the winners arrived).
With such gorgeous scenery there were loads of great opportunities for photos and the duck tours was the highlight of our holiday.

Thank you for your review, we are so happy to hear you enjoyed your tour with Josh. I must admit I was surprised to hear our Duck had won a triathlon considering her speed both for the water and road (I have yet to see her ride a bike!) however you cleared up that confusion! Thanks for joining us!

Worth doing once to say you did it, but would not do it again. At the end of the day it's an old bus that just happens to float. After 5 seconds of going in the lake you realise that's it. Maybe a rainy day activity?

Some interesting facts and commentary but our guide had verbal diarrhoea and after 90 mins of the PA system and bouncing around on the bus we were happy to be back at the base.

The good:
Local history, checking out the lakes/scenery and novelty of going into the water

The bad:
Legroom is TERRIBLE if you are over 6', you will definitely be sitting sideways. The PA system sucks, while it seems to play music ok, the tour guides voice over it was distorted and painful to listen to (like someone yelling in your ear with a loud hailer). The really awkward jokes just got tiresome and would have rated higher otherwise, sorry Josh.

Hello, We are very sorry to see that the tour did not live up to your expectations. Our guides pride themselves on trying to ensure that all our guests have a great time while with us, so it is very unfortunate to hear that this was not the case with your experience. As you would have known from the description of our tour, we are a genuine WWII vehicle, and as such it can be noisy and there is a limit on space, most people see this as part of the experience as you may read from other reviews. There are seats available that have a bit more legroom and I would recommend that if you struggle with this issue to always ask in advance if there is seating available for taller persons, we would have been happy to offer you the seat. We do always hope that our sound system is working correctly and test it on a regular basis. We live in a sulfuric environment and we constantly have to change out electrical wiring as a result of this. We will always do our best to correct any issue if we are alerted to the problem at hand. We hope that you will take away the good from the experience. We are doing our best in these difficult times, so please feel free to approach directly in the future so that any issues can be resolved before a 2 star review is given. Nga Mihi Shelley

The whole trip was awesome. Our driver/skipper
seemed very knowledgeable about the area and put a good comedic twist to the story telling journey he took us on. He kept it interesting the whole time and made it an enjoyable ride to be on.

Tour guide, driver and skipper Shelley did a fine job highlighting some of the city sights and surrounding natural attractions. Not only did she have good local knowledge but her sense of humour was delightful and almost drove us quackers. Good work Shelley.

Loved this quirky experience. Matt was our tour guide. He’s very funny. Kids loved his epic range of dad jokes. Our 10 year old son had a go at steering on one of the lakes and it was the highlight of his 4 days in Rotorua. Also, wear a warm jacket.

This was part of a cruise shore excursion but you can book individually. You take a WWII amphibious vehicle around town and on two lakes. Our driver Shelly added all the little details to really kick it up a notch! Played music, told jokes, involved the guests. High spirited - great informative tour and lots of fun.

Awesome tour and fantastic guide.

Even though it was just the four of us, Josh took us out on the tour. The kids got to "drive" out on the lake while Josh drank his coffee courtesy of a stop at BP along the way for refreshments, not a standard part of the tour!

Josh was a great guide, knew his stuff and was just great to chat to on the trip.

We had a really good time and the kids loved it. Great thing to do if you have a few hours in Rotorua.

Really appreciate that we were able to go even with so few of us.
