- Lozza19640 contributionsA total " top end" NZ experience!Migael the Pilot was brilliant, we had a great time flying up around the top end of NZ. This was a rewarding way to see this wonderful land. Migael was very knowledgeable, as well as a very professional pilot. To Grant the boss, we were in very good hands...thanks Salt air for great experience!Written 2 July 2024

- StaceyCheer0 contributionsFabulous way to see the northern tip of NZ!Wow, what a fabulous day we had with Salt Air. We were at the Kerikeri airport bright and early to meet our pilot Jonathan, and other passengers. We strapped into the little 8-seater plane and off we went for our adventure. It was pretty windy for our trip up the east coast, but despite a bit of turbulence we were still lucky enough to land on the small grass landing strip. Here we were met by a local (sorry, I can't remember her name!), who was fun, friendly, and knowledgeable, who took us for a van trip around the top of NZ. We stopped at Cape Reinga to see the lighthouse, stopped at Tapotupotu Bay for yummy muffins and home-grown bananas, and then the Te Paki giant sand dunes. It was then back to the plane for the flight back down the west coast. What a fabulous way to see the very northern tip of NZ, would highly recommend!!Written 31 May 2024
- mje02500 contributionsI will never forget this fantastic tourHo my god this is the best tour ever Fantastic Amazing Stunning To start we were delayed due to a small maintenance however we were kept up to date and once ready the mini bus collected us and we travelled to the airport only 11 ks Once arrived we were meet by our pilot went through all the safety procedures and clear rundown of the itinerary We boarded the plane and went across the country to the Tasmania side then up to the top Our piloted mig was so so knowledgeable So professional it was such pleasure to be provided with great information on what we could see Once landed he drove us in a very clean minivan to the cape the entire journey from clean vans A great plane fairly smooth commentary’s The dunes and beaches They left us all speechless Do yourself a favour book this tripWritten 2 May 2024
- UKtraveller0550 contributionsAn wonderful experience with incredible views, a great way to see Cape ReingaBooked the half day Cape Reinga fly/drive tour on the web and had a fantastic time. We were picked up at our hotel in Paihia by Jim, and taken to the airport where we met our pilot, Mikhail hope I’ve spelt that correctly for the trip. After short but thorough safety briefing we were airborne and taking in stunning sights from the airplane as it cruised north toward Cape Reinga. Our pilot kept us updated with facts about the region we were flying over and then it was time to land. Having played “spot the runway” we touched down on a tiny grass strip perfectly. From here we were taken in a very comfortable minibus to see the lighthouse, a most beautiful beach where tea/coffee & refreshments were served, then on to some huge sand dunes where we watched as some brave/foolhardy souls slid down on boards. The return flight took a different route showing even more of the beautiful scenery associated with this part of the North Island, culminating in a flight around the Bay of Islands before touching down at the airport. We both thoroughly enjoyed this activity, it was extremely well managed from start to finish, our pilot was incredible, great commentary, very engaging and very skilful. The website describes it as a “must-do” neither of us would disagree with that statement. If you have the opportunity take it and book this tour you will not regret it.Written 25 April 2024
- Travel289038613450 contributionsA fabulous tour which is absolutely not to be missed.Undertook this Salt Air Cape Reinga Half Day Tour from Paihai on 25 March 2024 Driven to Kerikeri airport in minivan, by a great driver - Jim. At the airport we met our pilot for the trip – Johnathon. OK, I admit it, to me (in my old age) Johnathon looked way too young to be in charge of flying anything other than a kite…..!! Oh boy, was I wrong. This young man is a magician with an airplane. He skillfully feathered our little plane up - firstly on a paved runway, then up and down upon a grass runway (which wasn’t flat!) and down upon a grass runway which was flat. As we flew north, Johnathon piloted the plane to show us the myriad number of bays, scattered townships, farming lands, beaches (including the ‘ninety-mile beach’ (which, chuckle, is really only about 35 miles long!) plantations, the hills and flatlands. At one stage we viewed a pod of Dolphins leaping with joyful abandon, relatively close to a deserted shore. When flight came close to Cape Reinga, plane was abandoned for a minibus. Johnathon, with same skill shown during flight, drove us to Cape Reinga, then Tatouhou Bay, (where he delighted us with picnic of hot cuppa and muffin) then took us to Te Paki Sand Dunes, before driving us back to plane and undertaking the return flight to Kerikeri Airport - where once again the excellent driving skills of Jim delivered us back to Paihia. Johnathon wasn’t just “pilot for the day”. To me, forevermore, he will be the “one in a million” pilot. His skill set is incredible. The day was fabulous. One cannot go to NZ without: • Going to Cape Reinga to view the meeting of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean and to watch their waters mingling, • Marveling at the tenacity of the Mauri sacred tree, • Walking around the Cape Reinga Lighthouse and its attendant Signpost. This tour is most definitely not to be missed. It was the highlight of my comprehensive tour of NZ from Stewart Island in the South, to Bay of Islands in the North. Toe to tip of NZ. Go for it. You will not regret it.Written 5 April 2024
- mariannehJ4674PA0 contributionsIf I could give it 6 stars, I would! An awesome and brilliant experience -worth every penny. Don't miss it. A magnificent opportunity to see all the best sights in one trip.Written 1 April 2024
- malcolms7160 contributionsLet down badly by Salt AirBe very careful when booking this, especially if you book via Viator. We booked, paid (payment in full was taken), received confirmation AND TICKETS only to be told later that the plane was fully booked. It was lucky that I checked my email otherwise we would have driven a hour to the airport. Salt Air blamed Viator (“the agent let us down, they shouldn’t have confirmed it” blah blah blah). Even after speaking with Salt Air they didn’t really accept that it was their problem and they employ Viator. Payment taken immediately…..refund promised “3 - 5 working days”!Written 18 March 2024
- Y9375UFleslies0 contributionsBeautiful flight seeing the northern most part of NZIt was a fabulous tour from the Bay of Islands. We saw so many different geographical locations. The pilot/tour guide Jonathan was wonderful. It was definitely worth the money. I would highly recommend this tripWritten 6 March 2024
- Austin2300 contributionsSalt Air Cape Reinga Half Day Fly and Drive TourThis Salt Air Cape Reinga Half Day Fly and Drive Tour was super great. First we flew up to Cape Reinga and saw gorgeous views on the way. We landed on a grass strip where a van was waiting for us. We drove to the light house and hiked down to it and where the Tasmin Bay meets the Pacific Ocean. Then we drove to the sand dunes and we sledded down the sand dunes. Then we flew back to Bay of Islands with more wonderful views. Such a great tour. Our pilot did it all. Flew the plane, drove us around, made us tea, and sledded down the dunes. Highly recommend.Written 2 March 2024
- OnAir486999965970 contributionsFantastic experience. Not to be missed if you're visiting the area.Fabulous flight to Bay of Islands and Cape Reinga. So many beautiful photo opportunities from the air and thoroughly enjoyed the stop offs at the light house, the beach (where we were served refreshments) and then on to the spectacular sand dunes. Our very capable pilot Jonathan was professional at all times and looked after us very well. He had a great knowledge of the area and gave an interesting commentary during the flight. A fantastic way to experience this stunning location. Highly recommend.Written 12 February 2024
- 32sheryls0 contributionsOutstanding Helicopter CharterThis is an excellent operator. I cannot say strongly enough how responsive, professional and courteous the dispatcher and pilot were. They provided a charter helicopter after our flight was cancelled within 20 minutes of phoning them. They even arranged for ground transportation to AKL once we landed nearby. We made our international flight with room to spare. Exceptional.Written 3 February 2024
- 249paulaw2490 contributionsFantastic trip couldn’t stop smilingWe turned up on the off chance to see if we could get a flight out to Hole in the Rock. The staff couldn’t be more friendly or helpful. They got us on the next flight. We did the 35 min tour with the landing at the top of Hole in the Rock. OMG we had the best time, Toby our pilot gave us a commentary about the Bay of Islands on the way out and told us all about the Hole in the Rock and gave us little tour at the top, there’s not much space up there. Then flew us back seeing different views on the way back. Highly recommend this trip it was one of the highlights of our visit. Top tip you can’t book on line if it’s within 24 hours of when you want to go. So if you can’t find spaces on line, pop in or give them a ring and hopefully you’ll be lucky like we were. Thank you for a great memoryWritten 27 January 2024
- Sightseer232671483560 contributionsSo amazing, so much you would not see from the groundWhat a brilliant tour with an amazing pilot. The flight was as smooth as silk, perfect take off and landings for one of our friends which was their first time. The pilot explained what we were looking at, answering questions and the stop on the hole in the rock, WOW!!Written 19 January 2024

很好的旅行方式。飞行员跟我们讲解了许多当地的知识,海特意从我们的邮轮上飞过,以方便我们照相。唯一不足是没有空调,飞机上面好闷热。The pilot was very informative and he specifically flew over our ship so we could take nice photos. There was no aircom on the helicopter. The inside was hot & stuffy, and the vest I weared was very smelly. Besides that, it was a wonderful experience. Great way to visit the Bay of Islands.

This is an absolute must do when you’re here. The views are stunning panoramas showcasing the sheer beauty of this area.
An educational on the islands, inhabitants, DOC status and even one on what it must possess to be classified as one. I know how Pluto feels after discovering one only to be told “no vegetation- not an island” so thank you Daniel (hope that’s right) for an experience we won’t forget and will definitely repeat next time we’re up.
A big thanks to the rest of the team there too for making us feel so comfortable and welcome.

Awesome Views Over The Bays
$700
We took an extended version of the Hole in the Rock flight adding in more of the remote coast line on the eastern side of the Cape Brett peninsula, and on the return extra views towards the Kerikeri inlet, over the Black Rocks, Waitangi and Paihia.
Great views, awesome scenery. A different perspective of the bays from the air.

We had a wonderful time on our flight to Hole in the Rock and the landing. We have seen the bay of islands from shore and by sea, but never by air. It is worth every minute to see this beautiful place this way. From the woman who did our booking to the pilot, everything was handled very professionally and safe. I would highly recommend this group.

We couldn’t believe how wonderful this scenic flight was. The weather was perfect and views spectacular, pilot Troy was very friendly and gave information about the various islands. This is the highlight of our five week holiday and would thoroughly recommend it. Our son bought us this as fabulous Christmas present!
The booking process and safety checks were very efficient.
