A great tour that needs a little tweaking!
It was a great tour. Our guide was a very pleasant lady but we could not understand what she said. We think her head phones / amplification system need attention. The first winery Brookhall ? Was disappointing as they only seemed to have very young wines and the white wines were not chilled. There tasting notes were helpful. The Church House was a brilliant venue and we had a great host. Tasting notes would have been useful. Trinity was great and the food was very acceptable and the host was good. Final mission Winery was an exceptional venue with some lovely wines and a great host. Receiving the gift at the end was a lovely touch.

      Good Value For Money
Picked up exactly on time, there were seven people on the tour. Tour guide/driver ( Sunni?) was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic on the history of the wine region. Tour included 4 wineries and 4 to 5 samples of wine at each location, with a cheese board platter at the 3rd visit. A good day out with good company

Worthwhile Wine - Cider -Beer Tour
Each winery stop provided several samples to taste. The 3 wineries we visited were very nice and the last stop for beer/cider was a real treat! The tour providers seemed a bit overwhelmed with the size of the group and all the chatter among the tourists. The snacks at the second winery were actually large cheese boards that were delicious and plentiful! The only drawback for me, was not being able to understand the bus driver’s thick accent.

      Hawke’s Bay with the Woodies.
We were at the hotel sitting inside but somehow they missed our pick up. We rang and were then told a white car was on its way- so we then waited outside the Quest. We are glad we missed the initial pick up as we were a couple and the van took 12 but there were 13 in our group.Hence we were chauffeured by the lovely Suhk ( not sure of the spelling) and it was awesome. Four great wineries with a lovely group of fellow wine tasters.

The best wineries tour in Hawke’s Bay
That was such a great time. The guides were so friendly and the wineries are sooo good. We tasted 20 type of wines at total. Also other group members are so lovely.

      Beautiful all around tour
We had such a lovely time! The wineries were beautiful and each tasting included commentary from winery staff. In between wineries, we got great commentary from our driver/tour guide. We had a cheese board at one winery which was excellent! The group size was 8, which was quite nice to chat with people without feeling too busy. We also received a wine glass at the end and had time to purchase wines along the way. Highly recommend!

      Winery Tour
Excellent tour. We visited 4 great winery’s & were very well looked after in all. Kirsty & Souk were brilliant guides. Special mention has to go to Maggie who went above & beyond on the journey home where she told us lots about Napier itself & showed us various parts on the journey back.

Lovely vineyards, very informative and a good selection of wines. It would have been nice to have had an opportunity to buy some lunch. Maggie was an excellent guide

Our driver was Souk who was knowledgeable about the area and very informative. We were the only ones on the tour so was very personalised. The only negative was the absence of the advertised souvenier.

      Napier Wine Experience
Group size of 6 was perfect, giving the participants a friendly and intimate social setting. The visit to 4 different vineyards of different size and style was a good intro to the region's wine scene. Owners were very generous with the wine portions and the local cheeses were excellent.

      A taste of Napier
Sunny was a great guide who showed us the sites of Napier. His knowledge of the history of Napier was excellent. We visited all the places as advertised. It was a well rounded tour, including sites of significance as well as a wine tasting and beer/cider tasting. It was just the two of us on tour as others had cancelled so appreciated our tour not being cancelled at the last minute. Highly recommend.

      Very enjoyable wine tour
A very enjoyable tour of the Hawkes Bay wine growing region. Souk (sorry, I've probably spelt her name wrong!) looked after us very well and all the wineries were interesting - the wines ranged from delicious to challenging and occasionally divided opinions in the small group - but it was fascinating to try so many variations of new world wine.

      Excellent tour
We had a thoroughly enjoyable day touring a selection of wineries and an ale house. The group consisted of myself and my husband and a family of six. The tour guide, Anil was very knowledgeable about the area even though he was born and brought up in Birmingham. The wine was plentiful and I learnt a lot about the process of wine making. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

      Tastings galore! Fab day out!
We had a great day, guided by Anil, tasting great wines, beers, and gins of the region. All the tastings were excellent, our favourites were the Brookfields vineyard and the National Distillery Co. Anil's anecdotes and local knowledge helped to make it a really enjoyable trip. Definitely would recommend

Excellent tour and commentary, Napier is a beautiful town, we were in a small group of 7 which was awesome as we were able to go to Te Mata peak which was amazing as we had the perfect weather, coaches cannot access this area.. Highly recommend a small shore excursion, we did the sightseeing and art deco tour, they also have a winter tasting and art deco tour. We finished in town and then we’re able to walk around till the last free ship shuttle of the day, it was such an amazing place.

Hi Pepper, Thank you for your fantastic review. Yes, the shore excursion is the most popular on any ship day. It is one of those tours that we have used for as long as the ships have been arriving here and will not change it as it is so, so very popular. Thanks again for your review. - John

Kristy was a great tour guide and very informative.
She drove us around the city and showed us the art deco homes of the 1930's.
Te Mata Peak was absolutely stunning and we spent a bit of time there for photos.
Kristy dropped us off in the town and we spent some time exploring on our own.
Napier and Hawkes Bay are lovely.
The only negative is sitting at the back of the van, I was unable to see much through the small windows, so I missed out on a lot.
There were very long queues for the shuttle to get back to the ship and a longer wait at the port to get through security.
    Overall a good tour.

Hi Blonde, thank you for your great review. I am sorry to hear that you could not see from your seat. For those reading this, we operate factory Toyota Mini busses (vans). While we have never had a comment before in almost 20 years, I do take your point. The rear seat in any vehicle, is not a visual as the front seat. I must note,. the window (one long window) extends down the whole side of the van and finishes behind the rear seat. Yes, I imagine at any port the queues to get on and off the ship are long and security checks at the port are out of our control. I think you again for taking the time to review. Regards, John

Our Hawke’s bay and Napier tour was very good,Mike our tour guide was very knowledgeable, entertaining and a good singer. Maybe the tour should include a winery tour and or chocolate shop tour to break up the return from Te Mata Peak. We were told to get the first shuttle bus from the ship as the tour starts 30 mins after first shuttle,6 people did we had to wait for 11 other people, when they didn’t arrive we started the tour then mike got a phone call and we had to go back and get them,we were still 2 people short and we’re asked to wait for them but people were getting upset by this time and some spoke of a refund then Mike was told to go. It was still a good day.

HI Jeannie: Thank you for your great review. Mike is a great guide and is also a local entertainer, hence the extra entertainment during the periods of driving through countryside views. Our clients love the Maori songs. In regards to the late comers, Mike proceeded taking the tour without them. As the tour passes this point, as you all headed out from the city to the countryside he drove past to collect the remainder. Our emphasis will always be with those that arrive on time. This day we gave the late group a opportunity to join up with the tour.

Our driver was John who was quite knowledgeable about the tour he was conducting. He had a note book that referenced what we were going to see and the art deco features of the buildings that he was going to show us. We first drove through the main street that was lined with beautiful gardens. It was then a short stop to the Centennial Gardens for pictures of the garden and waterfall. John took us up on Bluff Hill and showed us the beautiful girl's school and a beautiful view of Napier and Hawkes Bay. He also made a point to show us the beautiful red hydrangeas. It was then a drive to see the rolling hills of Tuki Tuki and Te Mata park. We then drove through the neighborhood of Napier and John pointed out more of the art deco features of the homes. It was then back to the ship. A short but relaxing trip.

We took this tour on Jan. 17, 2020. Our guide was Bruce. Beginning in downtown Napier, he told us about the art deco nature of the city. He had notebooks for us to peruse that showed pictures of Napier before and after the 1931 earthquake. Then on we went to Hastings, where we spent time in the charming town. There were plenty of stops for photos, to stretch our legs, etc. Bruce was very informative and entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour.

From start to finish our experience with this company was excellent. Maggie was amazing with the help she gave me while trying to organize 13 people (who ended up 11) with different likes etc. We did a day tour from the Celebrity Edge. Our guide for the day was Tere who was exceptional. Amazing personality and knowledge. Thanks Maggie. I can recommend your company and give you five stars.

Whilst we were looking forward to the Hawkes Bay Express unfortunately due to circumstances beyond their control the tour had to be conducted on a tour coach but be that as it may the tour itself was informative and interesting led by Will - the best guide ever. The engaging commentary was informative and our guide Will articulate and full of fun and facts. His commentary outlined the history of the1931 earthquake and the many aspects of life in the region such as its workforce, industries, lifestyle and culture.

It is a bus tour & John was our guide. Very knowlegeable & proud of the town.
We learned that Napier had an earthquake in 1931, destroying the town. They actually gained land mass & rebuilt the town in art nouveau style. That is the same style as old Los Angeles (think 1930’s). Due to once living in LA, I wasn't that impressed. We saw red stag along the way. Vineyards are plentiful by Hawkes Bay. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are popular in the Hawkes Bay region. From Te Mata (local mountain), we got a great overlook of the area. It was a good overview of the area.

Hi Trophy, thank you for your lovely review. Yes, I am very proud of my town and I am inclined to think I am knowledgeable about the area... modest. I note you mentioned art nouveau style, yes some of this present, but mostly Art Deco. I am pleased you modelled Napier against other cities. The main difference would be that we have more Art Deco in a concentrated area than any city on the Planet. Again, I am very pleased you considered the tour as a good overview of the area. As we commence our tours ahead of the other tours on offer on the day, we are able to cover more of the area for a greater overview. Thank you again for your review. Regards, John

I was reluctant to book a tour that was not associated with the cruise. However my concerns were soon eased.
Boarded a shuttle bus from the port to the center of town, where the tour van was waiting. Excellent tour of the City and Art Deco, almost like Miami.
The high point for me was the Te mata Peak. Great views of the surrounding areas.
Guides were very helpful and knowledgeable. Even had some time to do a little shopping.
Time alloted for the tour was perfect.

A superbly scenic trip in Hawes Bay area and a chance to seen Napier’s fine buildings. The day got off to a stuttering start by the meeting location not matching the joining instruction. The green sign to be displayed by the operator was not on show.
The mini- bus was not waiting for us; indeed we had a 10-minute wait before it appeared.

The driver gave only brief commentary and those further back in the vehicle did not hear anything as the microphone/PA quality was so significantly distorted. The tour took in some beautiful stunning countryside with well-chosen stops however the length of stops was unclear. A good tour that needs attention to detail to make it truly great.

Hi 87mart: I thank, you for taking the time to post a review. In all honesty, I can only recall the one instance where all our vans were not present at the start to meet the shuttles this entire season or maybe forever. This is most unusual, but I recall a day where the ship had changed its arrival times several times and the shuttle operators decided to operate the shuttles as soon as they presented to the port. Normally they assemble then commence at a pre-determined time. A time we rely upon. For this reason we had only some vans present for around 10 minutes. This did not impact on tour times as the shuttles were technically early. I personally was there extra early with the green signage and I was the only one until the vans started to arrive 10 minutes after the very first shuttle arrived. Some vans were only 10 or 15 minutes away as I noted above. Due to the mix up on the port, I tried to get the vans earlier than arranged. As the main organiser, I had a green sign, maybe you did miss this ? I do apologise for any inconvenience this day, due to the shuttles presenting earlier than we were infirmed. I am glad that once you proceeded with your tour, the tour meet your expectations. We have been offering these tours for close to 20 years and again, this was the first instance of this. Thank you for your review, this helps us with decision making moving forward. Regards - John
